I wholeheartedly agree. Caballe's voice here is astonishing, effortless and so sweet. She always struck me as a lovely person with charm and a lovely smile. Listen to her concert performance of Ascolta signore from 1976 if you have not already done so.
It was said in her book that this was kind of a forgotten opera, which is hard to believe after listening to the beauty of it, but here it is... so entirely awesome! I'm glad she did the live opera and recordings of it.
See 1:10:40 for Valdeburgo's exquisite aria "Meco tu vieni, o misera", gorgeously sung by Vicente Sardinero. This aria was much-admired by Verdi; Valdeburgo is a seminal baritone role, one of the first great 'father' roles in Italian 19th century opera, lying very much behind the Verdi canon of 'fathers' that would follow. For me, 'La straniera' is a kind of 'dark' La sonnambula. It's inexplicable and unfortunate that Eve Queller made so many cuts. Did she have some place to go afterward?
You know, in the 50's - 70's (at least) they cut much more than today.. Also, 15 minutes for tempos variation is perfectly possible... Amazing though that all you have to remark about this performance is it's length
@@enthusedtosing9655 Caballé was characterized by singing the operas as where at the scores. Maybe she changes some words, but she ever sings in the key at tempo of the score
Caballe is the best La straniera ever!
Caballe’ performance is astonishing, jaw dropping , mind bending, both subtle and electrifying an inspired performance never to be equaled. !!!!
Jansci, I love your comment and agree with it!

Thank you very much for posting this gem.
Somos tan afortunados que la gran señora Caballé incluyera en su repertorio La Straniera
Nadie cantó La Straniera así. Nunca
True that !

LA STRANIERA merita essere più rappresentata!

There must be severe cuts in this take. The opera's duration is usually around 2 hours 20 minutes ...
