My Three Sons in season 11, the early 1970's and airing on the same night as Mary Tyler Moore Show on CBS. BTW, that Mr. Tom Williams character preceded another sitcom heel, Archie Bunker, being an arbitrary blowhard. Steve and Barbara put him in his place!!!

Archie Bunker was a blowhard about big societal stuff, and he openly disliked "Meathead."
But Mr. Williams' character was a controlling, psychologically abusive weirdo.

Someone needs to redo the close caption. It is seriously flawed. Also this is a family show and some of the captions are not suitable for young children.

RUclips is unrated, and many closed captions are generated automatically. Instead of telling someone else to shore up their ship because you have a kid, use your parental guidance.
It's the standard suggestion for all tv and movies.

I never liked Polly for Chip. (The actress is wonderful!)
Because of her father, she grew up to be passive-aggressive and weirdly needy.
I wonder about the writers' decision-making back then.
Maybe they were showing a family dynamic that hadn't been portrayed before.

The actress, Ronne Troup, is Bobby Troup's daughter. Bobby Troup was one of the doctors on "Emergency!" FYI: Don Grady ("Robbie") wanted Ronne Troup to play the role of "Katie". Fred MacMurray wanted Tina Cole for "Katie". When the script called for "Chip" to get married, they hired Ronne for the role.
