Am a raw drone beginner but splurged on the Mini 3 Pro with Fly More Kit Plus. Am so glad I did, it has far exceeded my expectations. My original thought was that if I enjoyed flying drones, which I now love, then I would move up to a Mavic 3 model of some kind. But it's pretty hard to see any reason to do that, this M3P does everything so beautifully.

I'm coming from a Mavic Pro (OG from 2017ish) - which TBH, was legendary and amazing for its time. With Remote ID here in the USA, it makes so much sense to go to the relatively regulation free sub-250g vs trying to outfit an old drone with an external Remote ID module. I picked up the Mini 2 SE at a good deal recently, and was a bit disappointed - I know apples to oranges between a Mavic Pro and a Mini, but given the years since, I figured everything would be better. The Mini 2 SE has an aperture of f2.8 (not a lot of light), a small sensor, and fixed focus and it couldn't quite do justice compared to the 6 year old Mavic Pro which has a f2.2 aperture and 4K sensor.. While the Mini 2 SE does drone things well as all DJI products do, I was more than happy to return the 2 SE and get the Mini 3 with a f1.7 aperture with AF, the bigger sensor, and slightly longer flight times. It was some extra coin, but that was definitely an improvement over my old Mavic Pro finally. The Mini 3 Pro has some extra software and the obstacle avoidance, but for how I fly, I always had turned that off for the Mavic Pro anyways. I think for most folks - the Mini 3 is the right one - deals are coming that are bringing it into the $400 range, and it really has a great sensor for most use cases. You pay a steep premium to have a few extra features going all the way to the Mini 3 Pro or Mini 4 Pro, but you really lose a lot in image quality to take the savings of stepping down to the Mini 2 SE.

About 2 years ago i started to fly the mini 2,nice choice when you start flying drones imo. Then i wanted to upgrade to a drone that gives better image quality and bigger files to work with. For me the choice was between the mini 3 pro and the air 2s. After a lot of research i bought the air 2s in december 2022 and i’m very happy with the air 2s…it’s a solid beast in the air and gives amazing video and image quality. I did not sold the mini 2,it became my backup drone for places were i’m not allowed to fly the air 2s. I think it works really well to have a combination like that,a drone that weights less then 250 gram and a bigger drone. I can see myself upgrade the mini 2 to the mini 3 pro in the future because of all the systems the mini 3 pro has in combination with vertical shooting modus,really good for socialmedia related postings. I was thinking of buying the 2SE but after watching your video I think I have to go with the mini 3 cause I won’t be using these additional features available on the Pro. For me the battery life really matter and I might get one plus battery, that’s enough for me. I will be using it mostly when I go on holidays for some family photos and some quick shot. I'm looking for my first drone and currently in my country (Indonesia) the Mini 2 SE fly more combo is around $790 AUD while the Mini 3 standard combo (without extra batteries, charging station & bag) is $725 AUD, could you help me choose which one is better? Thanks
So I have a air 2s currently arguably better then the 3 here, but I’m looking at something under 250g to fly within the 5.5km of an airport and on holidays when more people are around to have a lower profile the mini 2se looks good but between that and the mini 3 which one produces less noise when flying, the mini 2 se seems appealing at $479 with its own controller but with the 3 I believe I can use the air 2s controller and it’s seems from what I see here to be a much better drone for what I will be using it for do you have any thoughts on this as to which may be the better option.
The Mini 3 is a great drone and can work with your Air 2S controller. If you want obstacle avoidance then the Mini 4 Pro is something to consider under the 250g weight class, or the Mini 3 Pro if you want to use your Air 2S controller. Recently purchased a Mini 2 SE, just the base model. In a way I regret not getting the fly more combo especially since they recently dropped the price, though in another way I'm glad I didn't spend the extra money as I can't really fly it anywhere! Totally my mistake, I should have researched it first, but in short most of South Australia is blocked. I can't fly in my yard, I can't fly in several nearby ovals, schools parks etc, can't fly at the beach. The DJI app refuses it due to airports and flight paths. I'm all for safety and responsibility however I think the restrictions are too limiting. I'd be happy just flying in my backyard, at a very low height, yet am denied of doing this. At the moment I can only fly indoors or will have to travel a significant distance to find somewhere to fly that's not blocked by the DJI app. Where do people fly? What's the point in spending all the money on drones if you can only fly them in very few locations?

For us in the UK DJI store has the mini 3 at £349 drone only and is a great upgrade from my mini 2se ,esp since firmware update that unlocked 48 mp raw stills .2 .7 k is surprising good video but a 2.8 lens limits your low light capability .The 1.7 lens is a bigger upgrade than anything else and cant wait to get mine and in the air.

Hi I tried to move the video file from the DJI mini 2 se drone camera memory card to lg6 mobile smart phone . The MP4 file would not play on my computer. The quick transfer button on the se version is not working or not available. it seems to be only on the mini 2 model.

I'm in the UK. My first proper drone. I was gonna get the 2se but I like this 3 as dpi have dropped the price for a limited time to almost the same as the 2 here. I defo think I'm getting the 3 as I like the gimbal camera on the 3 and then 2se seems little budget friendly of which I feel I'll wish I'd have got the 3 later. I like the portrait mode also for instagram, RUclips shorts and TikTok mode. I don't feel the extra money for the upgraded controller is worth it as it takes a while to start up and you need another sd card onto record onto the controller but you can record onto your phone. You helped a lot. I can't find another video comparing the 2se to the 3 so thanks.

Is there a preaty big difference in the video feed quality as your flying between the occusync 2 at 720p and the 3.0 at 1080p? Just curious if you can really see the difference or it all looks the same basically. If you really can notice I will get the mini 3 pro but if not I might just grab the base mini 3. Thanks

Great comparisons...I would add that, although a true beginner drone...I've crashed my mini pro...and my mavic pro in my early drone days, and i won't trust myself without the obstacle avoidance, lol....soooo i would probably have to do alot of repairs or buy spares if I got the 2 se.... Brilliant comparison Dan and very comprehensive!; the Mini SE is the clear choice for someone upgrading from a "toy" Drone (and learning the ropes); 3 and 3 Pro , next level up!; your comment regarding those of us who have high end level Craft (larger) versus the nimble and tight spaces capabilities of the "Mini" DJI versions is very relevant!!; I have the Mini 3 Pro and original Mini and use them as "risk" Drones!; this is when I need to get a very tight (no obstacle avoidance) few seconds of Video and do not want to risk the Mavic 3 (original) or Inspire with a $3,000 Camera payload !!!
What quick shit modes does the mini 2 se have because i cant seem to find the menu for quickshots when its up in the air or even above 2 meters hovering so how do you open this option?

Great vid. Was 100% what i was looking for. Was about to buy a mini2 se, but a friend offered a mini3 to me. And i can see it`s a better choice for me. Im be using it for my fishing trips inland (pike flyfishing and salmon flyfishing here in scandinavia). Did hope that i could set it up with a follow me function, men can see that i have to get a more expensive drone to get this option sadly, but - it`s a new start for me, so a mini3 can do for now.

Is weird nobody has actually put the old mavic air vs these 3 as weight isn’t a concern in Australia. Mavic air has obstacle avoidance. It has hdr shots It has slow motion The major downside was it’s flight time. Range can be hacked into fcc. Is a rock solid drone in comparison to mini 2 se and mini 3 I owned it for 4 years and the mini 2 did not make me buy till mini 3 pro which met and won the mavic air benchmark.
I (unfortunately) picked the mini 2 se as it was cheaper. Now i suffer with no sdk (no litchi), no 4k, no obstacle avoidance and no active track. And now i'm too broke to buy a pro.
I'm into photography as a hobby in NZ, and now have a Mini 2 SE Fly More coming for Christmas! Looking forward to getting some interesting perspectives (both video and stills) and with relatively low risk if I do something stupid with my drone. It seems pretty good value when you consider most DSLR lenses alone set you back more than the base SE drone. Photographers will be familiar with the term LBA (Lens Buying Addiction), and I assume drones have the equivalent DBA!
Amazing how far camera imaging has come. I had to push 400ASA film on my first film camera, a Nikon FM l, to get decent dark light shooting. 3200 on the bottom end 2SE? Where do I sign up? 😂
Very informative video. 👍 I have gotten over 30 minute flight times with my Mini 3 Pro with the Plus batteries. I believe I've gotten over 31 minutes with 13% battery life left but I try not to go below 20% so I usually get about 28 to 29 minutes conservatively with the Plus batteries in my Mini 3 Pro.
@@DansTubeTV Thanks for your reply. 👍Just yesterday I got another flight of over 28 minutes in and had 20% battery life left after the flight. On this flight I had an altitude gain of over 1,400 feet to reach the top of a mountain. I thought having 20% battery life left after a flight involving such an altitude gain was pretty impressive if I say so myself. Had I stayed under a couple hundred feet high I likely could have gone over 30 minutes while still having 20% battery life left upon arrival. I'm really impressed by those Plus batteries.

Interesting, you can buy yourself Micro SD card readers online for cheap. That is what I use.

It does work with Android phones, you have to download the app from DJI’s website though unfortunately.

I'm in the UK. My first proper drone. I was gonna get the 2se but I like this 3 as dpi have dropped the price for a limited time to almost the same as the 2 here. I defo think I'm getting the 3 as I like the gimbal camera on the 3 and then 2se seems little budget friendly of which I feel I'll wish I'd have got the 3 later. I like the portrait mode also for instagram, RUclips shorts and TikTok mode. I don't feel the extra money for the upgraded controller is worth it as it takes a while to start up and you need another sd card onto record onto the controller but you can record onto your phone. You helped a lot. I can't find another video comparing the 2se to the 3 so thanks.

Is there a preaty big difference in the video feed quality as your flying between the occusync 2 at 720p and the 3.0 at 1080p? Just curious if you can really see the difference or it all looks the same basically. If you really can notice I will get the mini 3 pro but if not I might just grab the base mini 3. Thanks

Great comparisons...I would add that, although a true beginner drone...I've crashed my mini pro...and my mavic pro in my early drone days, and i won't trust myself without the obstacle avoidance, lol....soooo i would probably have to do alot of repairs or buy spares if I got the 2 se....

Great review, So im looking to purchase one, but I keep hearing that the Mini 2 SE has a 2.3 inch sensor opposed to the mini 3 which has the 1.3 inch but 48MP? Should I be more concerned with the larger sensor or MP of the drones?
no, the 2se has a 0.4347" sensor (1/2.3" = 1 divided by 2.3) the 3 has a bigger sensor

Brilliant comparison Dan and very comprehensive!; the Mini SE is the clear choice for someone upgrading from a "toy" Drone (and learning the ropes); 3 and 3 Pro , next level up!; your comment regarding those of us who have high end level Craft (larger) versus the nimble and tight spaces capabilities of the "Mini" DJI versions is very relevant!!; I have the Mini 3 Pro and original Mini and use them as "risk" Drones!; this is when I need to get a very tight (no obstacle avoidance) few seconds of Video and do not want to risk the Mavic 3 (original) or Inspire with a $3,000 Camera payload !!!

What quick shit modes does the mini 2 se have because i cant seem to find the menu for quickshots when its up in the air or even above 2 meters hovering so how do you open this option?
On the right side of the flight screen, press the icon that looks like a camera or video icon. You can then go into the QuickShot mode.

Great vid. Was 100% what i was looking for. Was about to buy a mini2 se, but a friend offered a mini3 to me. And i can see it`s a better choice for me. Im be using it for my fishing trips inland (pike flyfishing and salmon flyfishing here in scandinavia).
Did hope that i could set it up with a follow me function, men can see that i have to get a more expensive drone to get this option sadly, but - it`s a new start for me, so a mini3 can do for now.

Doesn't mini 2se end Mini 3 have downwards sensors? I think they have but you're saying that they have no sensors at all.
They have vision positioning sensors but not obstacle avoidance sensors.

That would be the vision positioning sensors. Hold down the left stick on the controller while holding your hand under the drone.
Is weird nobody has actually put the old mavic air vs these 3 as weight isn’t a concern in Australia.
Mavic air has obstacle avoidance.
It has hdr shots
It has slow motion
The major downside was it’s flight time.
Range can be hacked into fcc.

I owned it for 4 years and the mini 2 did not make me buy till mini 3 pro which met and won the mavic air benchmark.

I (unfortunately) picked the mini 2 se as it was cheaper. Now i suffer with no sdk (no litchi), no 4k, no obstacle avoidance and no active track. And now i'm too broke to buy a pro.

I'm into photography as a hobby in NZ, and now have a Mini 2 SE Fly More coming for Christmas! Looking forward to getting some interesting perspectives (both video and stills) and with relatively low risk if I do something stupid with my drone. It seems pretty good value when you consider most DSLR lenses alone set you back more than the base SE drone. Photographers will be familiar with the term LBA (Lens Buying Addiction), and I assume drones have the equivalent DBA!

Amazing how far camera imaging has come. I had to push 400ASA film on my first film camera, a Nikon FM l, to get decent dark light shooting.

Very informative video. 👍 I have gotten over 30 minute flight times with my Mini 3 Pro with the Plus batteries. I believe I've gotten over 31 minutes with 13% battery life left but I try not to go below 20% so I usually get about 28 to 29 minutes conservatively with the Plus batteries in my Mini 3 Pro.

@@DansTubeTV Thanks for your reply. 👍Just yesterday I got another flight of over 28 minutes in and had 20% battery life left after the flight. On this flight I had an altitude gain of over 1,400 feet to reach the top of a mountain. I thought having 20% battery life left after a flight involving such an altitude gain was pretty impressive if I say so myself. Had I stayed under a couple hundred feet high I likely could have gone over 30 minutes while still having 20% battery life left upon arrival. I'm really impressed by those Plus batteries.
