The life stories of Malcolm X , Oscar Wilde and Lorraine Hansberry recounted here are among the most amazing ever presented on The Writer's Almanac. Thank you, Garrison Keillor!
Thank you for today’s edition of “The Writer’s Almanac.” Sad to hear about the penalty served for his life long personal lifestyle. (On this day in 1897 Oscar Wilde (books by this author) was released from Reading Gaol where he'd been sentenced to two years hard labor for "homosexual offenses."). 😮

I think that somehow knowing from early tragic experiences of the imminence of death enabled Malcolm X to live a fearless life.

Be well. Do good work.
I had never before heard the details of Malcolm X's childhood, pretty atrocious.
His autobiography (actually written by Alex Haley after a year of interviews) is terrific. I highly recommend it.
