      booleanenator I share my atheism with atheists. I am not making a claim but just questioning.
      I wish to share science with all or general humor at times. Though some are still offended by facts or science. People have different feelings on humor even if it isn't directed towards them in any way.
      I think asking questions should be okay to do. True it should have a time and place, but not because it would offend as much as just to learn.

      Jennifer Isaacs I agree with you on general principle. Atheism is for some people in my personal family however, a problem. Ironically even more than my being homosexual. I shared it with the hopes that a reality check on Islam might get a few of my friends to really look at the problems extremists pose and what the source of the problem is.

      "Atheism is for some people in my personal family however, a problem. Ironically even more than my being homosexual"
      That is the reason why I have to be outspoken. I really try hard to teach my wife's church (7DA) that sexuality is not a choice but a natural process on selecting mates. I find it deplorable when I explain that there was a time (probably still true now) that black people marrying white people was an abomination. And now my people are condemning homosexuality and I quote from a member "An infliction". I go over this time and time again that is not how sexuality works. I found a few that now understand that and are at least rethinking their views.
      What sucks is, because I defend this bigotry I get the backlash that I am a homosexual (especially from my wife - go figure). And I am like that is not how my brain operates. This is just biology.

      chris pearson empathy is underrated and it's also probably the only way atheists are actually going to be able to get indoctrinated people to return to rational and secular values. To often I see videos where the theist is practically on the cusp of giving up on a miguided belief, and they shut down emotionally because an atheist is arrogant or deliberately rude. Often times people who have come from religion, forget about the fact that it pervades all aspects of a person's life. Family, friends, social standing and the list goes on. It's often not the thought of what happens when you die that keeps people going to church. Sometimes it is about what happens when you are alive.

    I'm an ex-muslim, and I really liked this video. However, I have seen many critics of Islam in the internet also be pretty racist or against muslim people... and this may be a byproduct of their frustration towards islam being a taboo subject. Regardless, it makes matters worse. Many middle eastern countries were once secular - people tend to forget this. So people in those countries DO have the potential of becoming more secular, but they have to fix their totalitarian governments first. The united states certainly isn't helping this, and some may also say that America caused the extremism in the first place (like condoning the shit in saudi arabia, for instance). I'm just saying that although I think criticism on Islam is good, we also have to acknowledge that through politics we're part of the problem.

      Then why aren't Christians in those countries blowing themselves up? Why are British born Muslims blowing up innocent children at a concert? There's an ideology running rampant through Muslim communities which scriptural plausibility. It needs to be countered. And ex-Muslims need our support. At the moment their support comes from the right which for too many is for bigoted reasons. I've seen ex-Muslims and left wing ex-Muslims be called Uncle Toms & Native Informants. We can't allow this to go on.

    • @pansepot1490
      @pansepot1490 7 лет назад +15

      roxee57, Islamist terrorism is a big unquestionable problem but I think that it cannot be reduced to a merely religious issue. People like Harris and Hitchens (whom I admire) seem to think that without religion terrorism would not exist while history proves that ANY IDEOLOGY, RELIGIOUS OR SECULAR CAN BE USED TO JUSTIFY ACTS OF TERROR.
      I live in Italy and we've been plagued by political terrorism for decades. There was a time when I thought that the end of communism would lead to the disappearance of terrorism (since most of the world terrorism was then supported by the USSR) but it just was replaced by a new brand, this time religious instead of political. This leads me to think that if there are important social, political or economic issues violence will always be chosen by some group or other and only LATER they will seek for a religious justification, not the other way around.
      The reason why we don't have Christian terrorists (wait, I was forgetting anti abortion nutters who kill doctors in the name of God) is that Western societies are more developed and secular and have learned to deal with conflicts through political debate in the framework of democracy.

    • @benababas

      That's a great point. It's also the byproduct of trauma and actually seeing your own friends and relatives die. If you want to convince people to join our side - because we think it's inherently good - bombing villages with innocent people won't cut it.

      their justification is that if a women shows her skin or beauty to other people then that can raise sexual attention of other men apart from there husband but the point they miss is that the mans lust must be controled by himself not by covering up the women instead of teaching a man not to look at women lustfully they suppress womens will

    • @jasoncarpp7742
      @jasoncarpp7742 7 лет назад +4

      Man Mohan I see no justification in it at all. If a man can "lust" after a woman, I fail to see how it could be wrong for a woman to do the same back, particularly if the feeling is mutual. If the woman doesn't love the man, or had no intention of marrying him in the first place, then why should she be forced to marry?

    • @rameen4330
      @rameen4330 4 года назад

      @William Solia like i said, there are different kinds of muslims, some REALLY religious ones that even do things that they think is right but isn't, where i live, there a some atheist people here, people from LGBT+ and much more, but they are perfectly fine and living normaly, cause where i live, people have the brains to know what they should do, but other countries that Saudi Arab and etc, they are very very very religious, sometimes even doing things that arent allowed in islam, but i wont say alot cause im not extremly religious either, my knowledge about my religion is limited, i wont judge any atheist, cause i believe the only judge is God, but put the believes and everything aside, we are all just people looking for answers, we are all the same, but since we have been raised in different areas with different parents and different everything, people end up bad, dumb, evil, but some are clever, matured and good, so instead of aruging over something no one is even sure of, like is there a god?, we should actually behave like mature people, i understand all your questions, i hope you get mine too, but for now, remember, a religion is something very serious, if i wanted, i could be mad at everything for saying islam is bad, but i wont, cause quran also says not to judge anyone

      Women have the right to drive in islam. DO NOT Confuse the laws of Islam with the Laws of arabic countries. Believe me the laws of Saudi arabia or any other muslim countries or the actions of the leader/government of such is not representative of islam !
      To take an example, from what you mentioned above, you mistaken. There is no issue in Islam if a women drive. It is perfectly permissible for them to drive.
      Learn Islam only from the Quran itself and teachings of prophet Muhammad (SAW).
      Mr. Ali A. Razvi, Please criticise the ideas of islam as much as you want as long as it is in a positive approach and it is truly from islam, till you realise that its the truth from God. Because challenging ideas needs going in depth of them to challenge them and i pray that God opens your heart to the wisdom and beauty of every single aspects of islam once you learn about it. Because Islam is the Truth and last revelation from God.
      Atheism does Not make sense.
      Evolution of human from apes is only a Theory based on some resemblance between the two. There is no evidence for that whatsoever. The same applies for many theory before which was later discovered as being false. The earth was previously believed to be flat because of obvious observations, which was later proved to be false.
      The human body is so complex that it is impossible to believe that it created itself over time. Each and every organ is too complex for it to have been created by pure chance. How the body's mechanisms are perfect, how it functions perfectly, how it regulates your water through thirst, how your sugar is regulated, how it digests food and produces energy from it. Just contemplate you being able to Think, to have a Conscious mind, to have a Personal identity, contemplate the Emotions you can feel. These cannot have happen by itself. impossible. If you look at an airplane with its engine and seats..etc, its impossible that you would say this airplane created itself through chances. If you calculated the probability of throwing all the raw materials together and it becoming an airplane, believe me it will be zero. And that is just a machine without a mind or identity or emotions.
      That is just for human, you will come to the same conclusions if you look at every aspects of our lives/interaction, of nature with all its perfect mechanism and functioning.
      Lastly, can you believe that we as human, with complex mind, personal identity and consciousness, is on earth just for procreation and replication, then we die and our conscious mind/identity/knowledge disappears forever? Can you believe we created ourselves from chance, evolved ourselves so much, then we struggle so much through life with all the ups and downs, with all the hardships we face, we go through all that just to simply die at the end?
      Verily, we are just passing through this world as a test from God. This same mind/consciousness/identity/soul of ours will be resurrected to answer for that which we did in this world, to answer for the choices we made with what we were given from God.
      God sent many messengers/prophets throughout the existence of humans, each message suiting the time and the abilities/situation of people upon which it was revealed. These message instructed the best way for human to live their lives. The first human God created, Adam, was himself given the first message.
      Everyone in this world is very unique, in every aspects; physical abilities, mental abilities, health, intelligence, consciousness, awareness, memory, situations and place we were born in, how the message of god reached us, whether we were born in muslim families or not,..etc. In this light, know that God will be perfect in judging each and everyone of us. Humans have flaws, judges on earth pass similar judgement without ever being able to different fully between everyone and 100% take into account the unique situation of each person (personality, upbringing, environment, physical or mental abilities..etc) and understand them fully. because they themselves are flawed and limited in their abilities.
      But not God (Allah as we called God in Islam) . He will judge every person perfectly taking into accounts every aspects of their situation. My test and your test in front of Allah is totally different and judgement will be different. There is GOOD and BAD in everyone of us. The message of God has always been of GOOD. All sane person has the ability to differentiate between Good and Bad/Evil. A person will be judge upon how much (again depending on the abilities/situation..etc of each and everyone of us) he tries to follow the message of God and live his life accordingly and prevent evil.
      The message of islam is one of Peace and GOOD. ALL of it. Every aspects, ruling or command/recommendations of god, has its reason to be. Many of them is logically perceived and understood. Highly intelligent people may understand more of the reason and see what would result from such actions, people given less intelligence might understand less, but we must uphold and obey all the instructions given from God, since our limited intelligence cannot comprehend everything. Some reasons are just discovered through the results.
      Islam is the Last and final Message from God. The previous message was that of christianity, which became corrupted through time, with people and priest changing and adding new things which was not from God. Christianity is monotheistic religion and jesus was a prophet and not the son of God, which is part of the corruption later on.
      Prophet Muhammad (SAW) is the last prophet, before him was Jesus and many others, among whom Adam, Noah , Abraham, David, Moses, Jacob, Joseph...etc.) There are many Prophets from God, these are just a few mentioned, there are many thousands sent by God. Prophet Muhammad (SAW) being the last Messenger because his message is sufficient for all the people of now till the last of humankind. all of the previous message of God is now obsolete (including Judaism and christianity and all others) and need to be upgraded to Islam, since this is the perfect message for our time.
      Islam is not just a spiritual Religion. It encompasses all aspects of human life. Be it on an individual level, social, political..etc. it encompasses all aspects of human life. Its the perfect way for people to live.
      Islam is a religion of PEACE. Do not let yourself be brainwashed by the media or by non practising muslims or by the actions of some who call themselves muslim but in fact does not follow the last message/way revealed from God. There are extremists people in every aspects of life. Same way as there are extremist in religion, who distorted the message of God, and interprete it as they want. Same there are extremist people who calls themselves muslims and do whatever they want to do, these are not true Muslims who follow the true message of God, but they just call themselves muslim. Do not believe that islam is a religion of terror, my friend, as is portrayed by the media. If you really looking for the truth, do your research and learn about the true Islam. Islam was revealed more than 1400 years ago. Not since 2001. Believe me, in islam, suicide is forbidden and killing of any innocent human, muslim or non muslim, is completely and categorically forbidden. So be assured that these supposedly muslim terrorist are not from islam and are not following the last message of God at all. It is true that Islam being a perfect way of life, it also has a military dimension, which is a need of any nation if it is to survive and protect its people against foreign attack. Jihaad is part of the military dimension of islam, and defending ones own people is a type Jihaad. But it is NOT the killing of any innocent people the extremist terrorist do. This is unacceptable in islam. The killing of children, women and men who did nothing against you is completely and utterly forbidden in islam. But defending is permitted which is logical.
      As i said, if you want learn Islam, if you really want to find the truth of this life, please leave any misconception you might have and do your own deep research.
      Islam comprise of the Quran, which the direct revelation from God himself, which is beautiful in every aspects, be it the reading/recitation of it or the content of it. And secondly, Islam comprises of the teachings/sayings/narrations from the last prophet Muhammad (SAW) (known as Hadith in arabic).
      If you really want to learn the truth, You might start by reading a translation of the Quran. Its up to you, whether you want to blindly believe what others tells you about islam or you want to know the truth. Its easy to research, The Quran and the Hadith are easily available.

    The Internet is both a blessing and a curse.
    A curse because it makes it so easy to come in contact with religious zealots even if you don't want to. A blessing because it makes easy to counter them as well.

    • @grandpavan8335

      It's interesting that you used the words "blessing" and "curse." Old habits die hard. I still say things like, "thank heaven for that!" when something good happens and "well, for god's sake!" when I drop the shampoo bottle for the third time. I laugh at myself every time, but the words come out of my mouth before I can stop them.

      I used these words because that's the translation for "Fluch und Segen" I've found but I get what you're saying. I always say "Oh mein Gott (OMG)" but I don't think about it because it's just a saying for me.

    It's damn unforgivable how people who come out as Atheists are treated by family, their so-called friends, etc. I've never understood the reasoning behind what they do when they discover that a family member decides they no longer believe in what religion their family believes.

      Same here. As a Hindu I can proclaim my atheism and not be worried about negative consequences. I don't call myself an ex-Hindu, there is no need for it. Hindu belief systems accommodate my atheism very well. Of the 8 philosophical streams in Hinduism, one, Charvaks, are completely atheistic. With western Abrahamic religions if you don't believe in their dogma then you are excommunicated from the Church/the religious system and therefore the term ex-Jew, ex-Christian or ex-Muslim. No need for the qualifier "ex" if you are a Hindu.

    More power to you, Ali. I have some insider knowledge of what you describe. In Muslim circles, there is often an unspoken rule that tells you that you must be SEEN to be a good Muslim. For example, people here in London observe Ramadan fasting in their workplace IF other Muslims work there, but take food as soon as they leave. Very few are prepared to tell the truth, or even try to find out if others might share their approach.
    The trouble is that, as Christopher Hitchens said, Islam is a totalitarian ideology. It is not just a religion, it wants to control everything and every part of a person's life. Leaving Islam can have profound familial, social and political repercussions, in the same way that coming out as gay would do in those same countries. Unfortunately, even more than some ideologies, it demands hypocrisy in order just to survive.

      @Metsada007 5 лет назад +1

      tony bennett - I'm a Turkish EX-Muslim, I don't understand why Great Britain and other countries tolerate Islamists. Maybe the British state believes that over time (generations later) Muslims will become just like "normal" peeople. Maybe they are right, but I still think there is too much tolerance. Anywone who supports sharia law should be immediately deported in my opinion. I don't believe that I'm being radical or unjust.. I know Islam very well.. although I was always fairly moderate, Islam itself is definitely neither moderate nor humane. It's very oppressive and unbelievably backwards.

    • @tonybennett4159
      @tonybennett4159 5 лет назад +1

      @@Metsada007 I'm in agreement with you in many ways. I think that when fundamentalists incited to murder over the Salman Rushdie affair, steps should have been taken, as that is clearly against the law. Those steps were not taken, so those people felt emboldened to push even further. We have a system of laws that apply to everyone equally. Why the British state sanctioned a parallel system of law in sharia, I have no idea, but it is divisive. We haven't been helped, of course, by disastrous foreign policy decisions which have adversely affected a disproportionate number of Muslims, particularly in the Middle East, and this has led to disillusionment and anger, and has polarised many UK Muslims.
      I agree with Ali, it is not Islamophobic to criticise Islam, just as it is not anti-Semitic to challenge the policies of Israel, but frustratingly, these two terms are used all too frequently to stifle justified debate. I was, however, disappointed to hear him say that certain liberals were too scared to say what they really think. I'm one such, and such fears never strike me. One right wing friend virtually told me what I believe because I'm from the left. My reply was that people are a mixture of beliefs and to presume a person's standpoint is reductive and lacking in intelligence. If one's stance can be argued coherently with facts to back up any statements, it shouldn't matter if people try to pigeonhole you if you don't fit their mould.

    I'm a Muslim, born and raised, I love my religion and have no intention of renouncing it.
    I actually agreed with one point:
    -Islam and Muslim are not the same thing. You should intelligently criticize a belief/idea whether it is a religion, movement, politics and not be punished for it however degrading and vilifying innocent people is fundamentally wrong and inhumane. Muslims critizice sects or interpretations of Islam, especially of ISIS or the Taliban all the time yet some mistake benign, non coercive critics as haters against Muslims
    -Islamophobia is more complicated. A phobia is an irrational fear or dislike of something, and a lot of people oppose or hate Islam because they have a genuine, irrational fear of it due to media influence or stereotypes. So technically, they are Islamophobes. The term is legitimate but misused. However irrational fear or hatred towards Muslim should be given a another term such as "Muslimophobia" or "anti Muslim sentiment".
    -Even though Muslims aren't a race, racism is rooted in anti Muslim sentiment. Muslims are always potrayed in Western media as brown people or Middle Eastern people. When SOME people say "Muslims are filthy people...etc." it implicitly implies racial/cultural superiority or racism against brown or MENA people.

My parents didn't really know anything about Islam and i grew up mostly amongst Hindus and had liked being a hindu. When I migrated to the usa I started befriending mostly Christians and started to like Christianity. From then after I entered into college I went on a journey to explore other religions. But honestly I have to say my focus was on Christianity and Islam. I did a lot of research regarding them. I read the Bible which didn't convince me that it was the word of God, even though I was hoping so. I then preceded to read the quran and to my surprise I was convinced that it was the word of God even though I was hoping for the opposite. I then became a strong practicing Muslim and then went on my other journey to teach and educate people about Islam and with great success and I am talking in America.

      Well, for me personally, belief in a god has the same value as belief in a flat earth. There is no evidence for either, just allegations, but believers feel attacked when you show them how irrational their belief is. Maybe people will start to question why they believe in the Christian god and not in Allah or Zeus. I think education is extremely important, as is the willingness to question things instead of filling in the gaps in knowledge with faith. It is no coincidence that more intelligent people are more likely to become atheists than less intelligent people.
      Too much education is very bad for faith. It would be better to be uneducated, then belief in a god makes the most sense

    My only criticism of this guy is contributing to the confusion of atheist vs agnostic. I know most of here probably know the difference, but in case some end up here who does,'t and may be questioning or reconciling their identity, agnostic/Gnostic is a knowledge claim, as you know or you don't know, atheist/theist is a belief claim, you believe or you don't. So, you can be an agnostic atheist, which is what most atheists are, you can be an agnostic theist, you believe there's a god but you don't know (and let's be honest, no one "knows"). I also love him calling out Islamophobia as a bullshit term, because it really is.

    Why should it be that, at this point in the 21st century, we seem to find ourselves incapable (on the whole) of making distinctions? Have we lost our ability for nuance? How is it that criticism of Islam as a philosophy cannot, in the minds of many, be disentangled from racism and ethnic loathing? How is it that secular individuals, and even forceful atheists who criticize Islam-particularly those who come from the Muslim world-are painted with the label of ‘intolerant racists and extremists?’ How could it be that such brave and noble personalities such as Salman Rushdie, Ali Rizvi, Sarah Haider, Ayaan Hirsi Ali, Tarek Fatah, Yasmine Mohammed, Faisal Saeed Al-Mutar, and even the reformed Muslim, Maajid Nawaz, could find themselves marginalized and even castigated in the West, not just by adherents to Islam, but by those who should be on the forefront of defending civil liberties? What is behind the designations proclaimed by the Southern Poverty Law Center?
    And how is it that the term 'Islamophobia,' which is often described in one appalling breath as, an "intense dislike or fear of Islam, esp. as a political force" along with a "hostility or prejudice towards Muslims" even accepted and internalized? This term, by definition, has two distinct features, which may, or may not, overlap--simply consult your classic Venn diagram. Further, when considering the North American or European adherent to radical Islam, and, on occasion, a 'jihadist,' the entire ethnic argument evaporates!
    Islam, like all religions, is a philosophy worthy of criticism and, in particular, ridicule. The ridicule and attack of any and all religion (Islam, Christianity, Judaism, etc.) is a fundamental right, which if diminished or challenged, would set the clock of progress back by centuries!

      +Yasmin Mohammed.
      +Yasmin Mohammed. "Our belief in God" -
      You used the correct word here - BELIEF. That is the word we use when we cannot prove something but want it to be true. When you actually know something as a fact, then you don't need belief - it's obvious to the whole world. The "further research" of course presents no scientific papers, no experiments, no data, no evidence - only philosophical "arguments." It is religion's idea of what "research" is - that you an prove your claim by writing and talking and philosophizing. Religion does not do any real research at all - only science does that.
      “their knowledge of the total scheme of being is close to zero”
      That's because the "scheme of being" is meaningless religious gibberish. Religious people love to say how scientific knowledge is “close to zero” even when they are using computers and electricity and technology which their "holy books" and "prophets" knew nothing about. Scientific knowledge is not "close to zero" as religion claims - it is a vast ocean of knowledge that grows everyday. We know enough to fill a thousand university libraries - from the origin of the universe to the Evolution of life - and none of this knowledge came from religion or any "holy books." Knowledge is indeed "a huge desert of infinite extent" and science has proven to be the only map to this desert that has already helped us find its many treasures. Religion is the one that was lost in this desert and whose knowledge is "close to zero."

      I’m afraid that, in replying to my post, you failed to address any of my points, choosing rather to make some of your own. No matter, I’ll respond to one of yours, namely your point on belief.
      You assert that “Islam demands from its followers to believe in God.” But did it ever occur to you that belief cannot be demanded? One cannot choose to believe a proposition that one’s reason scorns. Based on the evidence, or rather the complete lack thereof, I could no more believe in the existence of a supernatural deity than I could Santa Claus, forest fairies or water nymphs!

    Ali Rizvi, You have my sincere admiration for what you do, you and others like you. I AM one of those "western liberal white guys" you mentioned. I have been in and out of numerous religious beliefs in part because of a secular up bringing. ALL of them have been an exercise in research more than anything else. None have proven themselves worthy of continued practice, so I have once again embraced agnostic beliefs for myself. I am not public about it, (in family/friend circles) for the reasons you mentioned, so I prefer for the time being to "let sleeping dogs lie". I agree with you that silence is complicity and I also agree that the trials that Islam is experiencing is similar to the history of the Christian church as well. I have on occasion said that the Sunni/Shiite religious war reminded me of the Catholic/Protestant wars of the Middle Ages and beyond, and expressed the hope that the faithful of Islam could reach a state of acceptance like the Christian church has. In a perfect world, there would be no need for faith beyond reason, but we are far from that, and I think that you are correct that the internet has opened doors on MANY ideas that people of all nations need to know and think about before its too late for humanity. I have long had the idea that we are not alone in the universe and that others know of us and say about us, "Why would we want to go there, THEY can't even get along with their own species? Could we expect anything better?" I think I would have many questions for you, but consider this an introduction, since we have only just met.

    So i am a muslim...And this man was born in Iran or Iraq? So according to this man..the biggest reason i can see here why he became an atheists is because of the BAD MUSLIMS ..Because of the extremists..He judged Islam by the people,,not by the Quran...which makes him a stupid person..and arrogant and ignorant person..These are the type of people who are actually bad...i can see by his attitude..his rude behavior towards muslims...so he is judging Islam by the muslims and extremists..NICE! -___________-

      iExplorer I like how you just say “nah bro” instead of actually refuting it. Thankfully, you obviously have done little if any reading of Islamic texts (like most Muslims around the world), because if you did (and believed it) you might actually be a radical wacko. This is coming from a Bosniak ex-muslim. Look at it skeptically man, view it with the same skepticism that you would view any other religion. Read the text and what’s actually inside. Wake up

    Anyone who would dare declare themselves as even agnostic in areas that are fervently drenched in religious tyranny, should be given true medals of courage. Being an atheist in a secular or more tolerant society is one thing. But try declaring such where it could mean the harshest penalties is truly living in danger. It's sad that there are places in this world that are still stuck in the dark ages.
