I was raised Christian and in middle school became rebellious and “atheist” now I’m 22 and searching for God again. I had such a strong relationship with Him when I was a child and I wish I could go back to that. Ive forgotten so much and strayed so far, I’ve struggled so much in the past few years and looking back I truly believe that I just needed God in my life at those moments. I can’t change the past, but I can make choices to effect the future and building a relationship with God again is the start to the life I want to live. It’s hard working through the doubts that pop in my mind from being a non believer for so long, but In my heart I know the truth. Anyways thank you for breaking down this chapter and making it easier to understand

You may not see this but, as the daughter of a pastor my christian walk has fluctuated with the highest of highs and lowest of lows. I have a leather journal where i used to just brain dump and now am creating a prayer journal (thank you to you for the inspiration). As taking notes watching your videos i decided to flip back through old pages and saw where i was very low and said i had no time for furthering my walk with god but even when i had time felt id be unmotivated. Well i recently quit my job with just a strong urge and no reasoning behind it. since then ive been nothing but motivated and just today had a weird and unexplainable urge to search bible journaling and came across your page. God answered an unspoken prayer to an unworthy person (me). Im in awe on this small little pop up of god saying "hey im still working in your life." My heart is flooded with passion and gratefulness towards God but also to your video. Thankyou so much! Youre making a difference in young womens lives like mine.

Just found your channel and I am already hooked. Starting with the Genesis Bible Study and I love how you explain things!! Also I saw you live in SC and so do I !!! I am working at a Christian Homeschool Co-Op where we will teach students with a Christian Worldview and I am so excited. I am actually teaching science and I am pumped to teach from a different perspective than what I was taught. The first things I am having students read is the creation story and I am also having them watch a portion of Bill Nye and Ken Ham's debate. Your bible study ties perfectly into what I plan to teach students.

This is a great thought. Stewarding our lives, even in this point in our lives, is still our calling. As I go to physical therapy, and try to find the perfect doctors for my issues and my husbands, I am stewarding what He made for His glory. We weren't created for brokenness. Whoa. What a blessing to think about that! I happen to be having a day of pain, and my husband's issues have been kinda hard. Thinking about stewarding what God created will help me through today!

Also, I would've added the fact the God in Hebrew is Elohim. Elohim is a plural noun for "gods" or "deities" or various other words in Hebrew. Builds on the trinity. By the way, I just started a study on Genesis 1 this evening. I'm excited and enjoying it so much already!

Great video. God sovereignly chose to work and reveal himself through the literary genres and other characteristics of a particular Ancient Near Eastern people, so we mustn't try to impose our modern categories on it (either in defending or objecting to it). And I like how you point to the presence of God, AND his Spirit, AND his Word/words even in the first 3 verses. I think as Christians we tend to associate creation overwhelmingly with God the Father and regard the other 2 Persons as active more in salvation, but here we see them working in harmony right from the start. I also find it significant that in v.27 the "image of God" entails both "male _and_ female," suggesting that we image God precisely in our relationality, our unity-in-otherness, and that (in the Christian interpretation) this sort of communion is itself rooted in God's _own_ being.

If an artist could create a masterful painting in a day then is doesnt suprise me that God may have the ability to paint with dna or something. I like the way you put it, "our science lenses" because we are taught by the finality of our senses working backwards with science. I truly believe that there are some answers here that will prove to be scientific we just dont have all the info. The all powerful should be just that. The very nature of Him should be able to manifest from the dust he created. I just love the book of Genesis and I loved this thank you

I just read an incredible commentary on why Elohim in the plural is used for God in Genesis. It was in Ellicott on BibleHub and he said that the E perspective uses the plural in direct contrast to the polytheism that surrounded that scribe. All these other cultures had the sun god, the fertility goddess, the god of rain, whatever. But E used “Elohim” in the plural to show that the Hebrew God was one being who did all the things and no others were required. First of all, mind blowing and beautiful thought in itself. But then, I was shocked to learn that Ellicott was writing in the 18th century?!? I truly never would have guessed.

I love Genesis, there is so much treasure to be found in it if we dig deep. Always something new to learn, no matter how many times we read it. For instance, I've been a Christian for 47 years and I have never seen the connection between the fruit of the Tree of the knowledge of Good and Evil and the fruit believers produce through the Holy Spirit! That's beautiful! Also, when it comes to science a lot of people take everything scientists come up with as absolute fact and 'truth', but they forget that scientists have had to backtrack on many so-called facts over the centuries, one of the major ones being their belief that the earth was flat! So they get it wrong sometimes! The theory of evolution is just that - a THEORY. I don't have enough faith to believe in evolution. A Creator God makes far more sense!

@@HowtoFaithALife Thanks Faith. Merry Christmas to you and your family too! I have a question too, which I forgot to ask...would you consider doing a video about the 'Gap Theory' some people hold to about Genesis 1:1 and Genesis 1:2? I only recently discovered this belief and how it relates to the 'true' (according to those who believe this theory) age of the earth etc. Have you heard of this at all? Do you think it is ok to believe it? I'd really be interested to know what you think about it.

    • @HowtoFaithALife
      @HowtoFaithALife  3 года назад

That’s a really good question! I am someone that really tries to hold an open mind with everything in Genesis because I know God is way bigger than humankind’s ability to put Him to words. The book I mentioned does address the “gap theory” briefly but basically, a summary is that the “gap theory” is one of the many theories that try to work through scientific findings about the universe and relate them with the biblical record without either losing it's legitimacy. But the book I talked about argues that Genesis 1 was never intended to be an account of exactly (scientifically) how the universe came to be, but rather a theological account of our relationship with God and the rest of His creation. It shouldn't be pitted against science, nor should we try to make it fit into our scientific worldview, it has completely different intentions than a Science textbook. The original authors and readers really didn't care about where the universe came from, they cared about their relationship with God and the rest of creation and how they fit into it!

    • @1974AMDG
      @1974AMDG 3 года назад +1

@@HowtoFaithALife Thanks. That's a great way of seeing it. Maybe all we really need to be sure of goes back to the first line of Genesis...'In the beginning, GOD.' ? We don't really need to know or understand all the ins and outs and all the finer details really, do we? We could probably just get bogged down in all that and neglect the more important things like growing closer to Jesus. After all, it's really just a theory...and we have FACT...'In the beginning, GOD....'!!!

    • @HowtoFaithALife
      @HowtoFaithALife  3 года назад

Yes! Exactly! I totally agree. It’s like disagreements on end times and Revelation- we just end up arguing and dividing over it when that’s not even the purpose of the scriptures, to argue over their meaning and try to figure out the minute details that are above our comprehension anyways! Some people don’t like surrendering all that over to God, though. 🤷🏼‍♀️ it’s hard, there’s no perfect answers other than, we know what we need to know, everything else isn’t worth fighting over!

This was good, yet we aren’t entirely called to live life to the fullest. We are called to spread the gospel. Not saying we can’t enjoy his creation. But our main purpose is to imitate his love within us to others and be the light in this dark world.

Sadly, a lot of Christians debate the idea that Genesis was literal days. To me, the reason is that in Genesis it's not clear but here's some evidence as to why they are literal and why it's important.
First, there are morning and evening mentioned each day.
Second, Exodus 20:8 “Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. 9 Six days you shall labor and do all your work, 10 but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord your God. In it you shall do no work: you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your male servant, nor your female servant, nor your cattle, nor your stranger who is within your gates. 11 For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it.
The context here is that 6 days of the week 24 hour days and rest on the Sabbath and then the comparison is directly made to God creating in 6 days and resting on 1.
When I wonder about parts like this I like to know what other believers thought in the past.
Here are some early Church fathers' writings that give us a clue as to what they believed
    Barnabas, AD First Century
“Therefore, children, in six days, or in six thousand years, all the prophecies will be fulfilled. Then it says, ‘He rested on the seventh day.’ This signifies at the Second Coming of our Lord Jesus, He will destroy the Antichrist, judge the ungodly, and change the sun, moon, and stars. Then He will truly rest during the Millennial reign, which is the seventh day.” Epistle of Barnabas 15:7-9
    Commodianus, AD 240
“We will be immortal when the six thousand years are completed.” Against the Gods of the Heathens 35 “Resurrection of the body will be when six thousand years are completed, and after the one thousand years, the world will come to an end.” Against the Gods of the Heathens 80
    Victorinus, AD 240
“Satan will be bound until the thousand years are finished; that is, after the sixth day.” Commentary on Revelation 20.1-3
    Methodius, AD 290
“In the seventh millennium we will be immortal and truly celebrate the Feast of Tabernacles.” Ten Virgins 9.1
These references speak directly to 2 Peter 3:8 But, beloved, do not forget this one thing, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.
This doesn't mean it's correct but it does show that there is an understanding of time.
One of the things that our daily walk is built on is the idea that we add brick by brink to it.
The 2 most hammered books in Scripture even by Christians is Genesis and Revelation and so many times I hear everything is debated. No that just means there's a lack of understanding. False teachings are so easily adopted when we give credence to the idea everything is accepted. Do we have to argue and tear each other down? No not at all but to me there is a reason that is presented here why 6 days and how specific it is in Scripture.
The claim is here that after 6 days or 6,000 years the 2nd Coming will occur. We see that when we read Genesis 7-8 that the years were 360-day years not 365.25 as they are today. When we take the genealogy charts from Adam to Abraham it's 1,946 years.
    i0.wp.com/viz.bible/cms/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/Genesis-Timeline-from-Adam-to-Abraham.png?fit=1024%2C741&ssl=1
We see that from Abraham's birth to Jesus is 1996 years.
    Jesus to today 2023
    1946+1996+2023 =5965
    0-1000 Day 1, 1000-2000 Day 2, 2000-3000 Day 3, 3000-4000 Day 4, 4000-5000 Day 5, 5000-6000 Day 6, currently 5,965 (give or take).
We see 3 eras in Scripture Creation to the covenant with Abraham 2000 years, Abraham to Jesus 2000 years and from Jesus death the (new covenant, not a replacement) We know from Daniel 9 (See my study here)
    ruclips.net/video/xqQ5jdl84sM/видео.html
That Jesus's death was Passover 32 AD. So if we add 2000 years that would be 2032. Does that mean the 2nd Coming is then? No, but the patterns in Scripture are such that there are many ways that point us to our time.
Most of Eschatology today is awful and a lot of it has to do with our understanding of Genesis and Revelation. The best book I've read this year outside of the Bible is Ken Johnson's -The End Times by the Ancient Church Fathers.
    Hope this helps.

Like all kingdoms, God wants to expand his kingdom so he created us for that purpose. We have only one purpose in life ~ to bring God’s kingdom to the whole of the earth and that’s it, he doesn’t care about us beyond that but if humans want to believe they’re separate from God with an individual life, then their beliefs will create its own fruit in terms of sickness, stress, poverty etc etc etc

Not sure if you’ll see this or not since it has been years since you’ve posted this but when you were talking about something not being scientifically proven I ask, why does it have to be? God could always perform miracles which is anything that is unnatural happening (even against science) that only the Lord can do. If Gods word says it happens then I can’t use science to disprove it because my God is a miracle worker! Thanks for sharing this and so happy to see that people are still getting things from it months ago and even to now. Have a very blessed thanksgiving and Christmas!

I think when it mentions days I think we have to remember that what are days to us are like 1,000 years to God. I feel like both science and what’s written in the Bible is true, of course while still remembering that science is still being explored. God made science in all of this without going into extreme detail, it’s basically just the gist of it here. It also mentions in the beginning verses how God waited to spring up the fruit’s because he needed someone to toil them, which means the seeds came first and time had to have past for there to be a harvest season which I think only proves that the days are actually YEARS to us humans and on Earth, but not to God. Idk if that made sense but that’s what I feel makes sense.
I also have so many questions..

So...I say this with love and pray you all come to understand this someday. Science is based on MAN'S WORD and after some length of time, changes what is true and what is false (let's look at the discovery of penicillin (sp?), before it was discovered, all forms of mold were bad). GOD'S WORD was, is, and will always be true. We just have to come to terms with that thought process. ❤

Loving your videos, thank you. You mentioned God and His Spirit but I did not hear mention of Jesus. We understand from John 1 1 that He was with God before the world was made too. He is the Word. I recently was very taken with this from Jordan Peterson: "God used the Word to extract habitable order out of chaos at the beginning of time: embodies the primacy of consciousness as underlying the structure of reality. Little else works in the absence of consciousness - time (duration), being. Words manufacture our lived reality - turn chaos into order.
Life is dependent on the conscious experience of the world. At least one famous physicist believes that consciousness plays a constitutive role in transforming the chaotic potential of being into the actuality of being.
At a neuro-biological level we do not understand consciousness at all.
People use their consciousness to grapple a sense of form out of potential chaos: “You should live up to your potential” implies the possibility of accruing more than what is - what COULD BE - if they participated in the process properly. We all know what this means. The idea of one’s potential is very exciting because is stimulates the hypothalamus - dopamine etc.
    Trinitarian notion:
1 Potential. Often given a feminine nature as the ground from which all things rise
2 Structure: interpretive structure has to grapple with the formless potential
    - Akin to God the Father
    - There is something in all of us that is transcendent, is a deeply structural part of an ancient process that enables us to struggle and bring forth reality
3 Consciousness itself - active structure that has the capacity for action in the world, the Tool of the structure
    - the Son, Jesus.
    - The speaking of the Son - turns chaos into order. Speech and discussion manufacture our lived reality.
Unusual concept that humans are made in the image of God by playing an analogous role in the creation of structure out of chaos : having a Divine spark in each of us - all are equal before God.
So the whole Trinity was there as I understand it:)

Hey i want to add something.
In verse 14 it shows that God created the suns and stars so that they can show days years and centuries. This shows that God actually created eternity which our mind couldnt understand cuz we are created in a time limit. I hope this will answer the question that where did God come from. If i just tell you that he just exist you wouldnt understand bit if i say that your mind is in time limit to understand that God is eternal may be that will make sense. After all great video really and thank you for the book recomendation.God bless you and keep up tge good work❤

The rebellion of man eating from the tree aka fall of man is where the bad starts to pour into the world. God created perfection/good and going against that is what creates bad/evil

The book of Genesis is also believed to be mostly written by Moses, back then they had next to no knowledge of science, how could we expect Moses to understand exactly what god means when he explained the creation of the universe to Moses, or whoever else received his word? Just my two sense since you mentioned not looking at the creation through a modern scientific eye
