    The 300s has stood the test of time no doubt! Not only 300 fourtrax's, but Ranchers, Formans and Rubicon also. It's nothing to see multiple 20-30 year old Hondas everytime we go riding. It's rare to see 20-30 year old atvs in the other brands.

      Yep you definitely see more Hondas than anything when it comes to older quads.

      Here in 2023, My 2008 Honda Rancher 420 4x4 still has it's original battery and starts right up at 0 degrees out. I know Hondas are expensive to buy used, but if you can swing to buy new, it will last forever.

    Some of the best ATVs ever made. Utterly bulletproof.

    300’s are fairly light in comparison to other Hondas and with the 4wd it’s a win/win. Even before all my modifications, my ‘97 would go through almost anything.
    @ 3:06 You’re not really stuck, just temporarily delayed. Gotta hop on that front rack in order to engage the front locker

    I got a 2 wheel drive 300, & I was amazed at what it would go through without having 4 wheel drive...but I also have a winch on the front & it works great...I do want to do a 4x4 conversion on it though...that would be very cool...

      @@kaynine8811 Not worth it. Better to just sell yours and buy a 4x4.

    It used to be that you couldn't find the 300 fourtrax's for sale on the market. In my area they are all over the market now in 2023. The 2wd models are selling for $1250 and the 4x4 models are selling for $1700.

    I live in northern AZ in the desert. Lot of long open trails, not much water and it doesnt snow much. I am looking for a quad to trail ride and one of the bikes im looking at is a fourtrax. But ive heard they are a bit slow and underpowered so its not that great for trail riding. The other bikes im looking at are Polaris Scrambler 500 4x4 and Polaris sport 400 L. They are more trail type quads from what i understand. What are your thoughts?

    • @LonerTrails

      The 300 fourtrax is slower compared to most quads but never once have I found myself needing more power on one. Sure, more power is nice but not necessary needed (in my case anyways). A 300 will hit 45mph or so. They are very light and maneuverable as well, not to mention being one of if not the most durable and reliable atv ever made. The only real complaint I have is the suspension isn’t the best. A scrambler 500 will definitely have more power and probably ride better though. I’ve only ever owned 1 Polaris and it was great. May also wanna consider a Yamaha Kodiak 450. But definitely recommend more research because there’s lots of different atvs out there that all have their pros and cons. That’s just my 2 cents.

    Why do you say 3 wheel drive?

    • @LonerTrails
      @LonerTrails  Год назад +1

      The 300 Fourtrax has an open front differential. While it may be pulling with all 4 wheels on flat ground, say your front right wheel runs up on an obstacle while your front left is on flat ground. That front left has less of a load on it so that front left wheel will spin while the front right will not spin due to it being more difficult to spin. It’s just the way an open differential is designed. You can google what an open differential is to get an actual definition.

      Yep. We found this out back in the day with our 1996 Honda Fourtrax 4x4. I ran the front bumper up to a round bale, to see if I could push the 1100 lb. bale. Only three tires spun. I talked to one of my Honda buddies, if he thought that maybe I broke one of my front CV joints. He said no. He said it does not have diff lock for the front and will only give power to the tire, that has least resistance.
