“About 50 per cent of companies have party subcommittees” This sentence summarizes all the reasons of China's development. Capitalist entrepreneurship combined with a communist sense of discipline and compromise towards the others with also a strong patriotic belief and a remain to tradition. The Communist Party of China of today, is not a political party, rather it's a ruling organization, a sort of social class within society that is based on Meritocracy.
The idea is to have representatives from all levels and all sectors of society, so that decisions made within the party can be representative of the entire society of China.
This in a way is very similar to the Imperial Bureaucracy of Imperial China, where a ruling class of educated people from all walks of life, join the Imperial civil service through a rigorous exam called Keju.
Kind of interesting how the CPC system have so much similarities with the Imperial system.
Perhaps it's the same system just under a new management.
Or maybe it's the result of "Socialism with Chinese characteristics", many people might not know, the Chinese characteristics are Confucianism and Legalism, of which President Xi is a pretty big follower of Legalism.

The bombing of civillian in Serbia and forcing up a "connection" between King of Saudi Arabia to the terrorist of 911.
Both countries have something they covered up. Its just that one country covered it better while the other just worked in the government more aggressively but better.

The claim that China "lifted people out of poverty" is a myth.
What it did is lift them out of starvation, but in order to live, they are required to endure arduous economic slavery.
People can't pick where they wish to live or work. Most can't afford to. They are required to travel large distances, often live far away from family, just to make a living.
Kids rarely get to see their parents, and many leave school early to work in the factories to produce goods enjoyed by the rest of the world.
Whereas any normal society would find such working conditions unbearable, China maintains them through huge amounts of propaganda, and silencing of dissent.
In essence, it has become like a large prison camp, where inmates (Chinese society) knowing no better are brainwashed from birth to love and dedicate their lives to the country, rather than seek self-betterment.
Its also why the majority of the world remains cautious of China, if not out right distrusting.
Their strong grip on their society has allowed them to achieve huge achievements as a nation, but at the expense of personal happiness, liberty, and freedom of thought for the average person.
Those awakened enough to realize it tend to leave the country the moment the opportunity presents itself.
That is not to say capitalist societies in the West are any better. People endure hardships everywhere, and poverty exists in many forms.
If in China its economic slavery, lack of privacy, and government control of every walks of life, in the USA, its homelessness, drugs, and street crimes taking the country by storm.
To each their problems I suppose.
