I spent time in Karaolos as have countless British troops over the years, under similar conditions but not as detainees. The British were trying to contain a deluge of refugees flooding into a country to which they had no automatic right, for whose encumbents the British were answerable. And they managed as well as they could, to no avail as it turned out, and we finish up with the tragedy we have today.
The British Pathe video I just watched shows the Jews being pretty happy in the camps in Cyprus. They were smiling and exercising. Of course I expect they would have preferred to be in Palestine (Israel) but as you say we couldn’t just flood Palestine will thousands upon thousands of Jews when there were already people living there who would have been pretty cheesed off with that many new arrivals.
@@noodlyappendage6729 You're talking nonsense, so how come after Israeli independence in 1948 tens of thousands of Jews flooded into Israel and were quickly intergrated into Israeli society with homes, jobs, schools and universities, not to mention joining the armed forces? Arabs are still referred to as "refugees" almost 80 years later?
