  • Happy New Year everyone. I wish you all the best for 2024. Health, happiness and plenty of time to play Tales games!
I've known for a quite a while how I wanted to end all of this so this is the last video I had planned for this channel (well... aside the NDX making of... but this one is cursed lol). I would like to call it my last "gift" but since this is just some content and mostly something I wanted to do for myself, I don't think I can really use that term. But in any case, I still hope this video will be able to bring some motivation and sparkle new ideas and projects for Tales players ; the same way many other channels inspired me back in the day. I'd like to take the occasion to thank all the great players I met since my beginnings that were kind enough to share, promote my content or simply to talk to me and share their Tales love. I'd also like to thank all my viewers, subscribers and especially all the ones that took the time to drop a comment since my channel wouldn't be there without all of you and your interactions really helped me keep the motivation till the end. Know that I do remember all of those.
Having said that, don't expect something too cheesy for the video (despite what the trailer sounds like... I had high fever when I made that) since it would feel even more awkward x) but I think the video does fit very well the idea of a new beginning.
As for the future of this channel... well it's gonna enter an indefinite hiatus. The Tales fanbase has changed a lot since I started YT content (and RUclips too...). What I do is now a thing of the past and isn't what people are looking for anymore (and it was already quite a niche scene...). Since I don't want to change my standards and adapt, I find it better to explore completely different paths.
Starting this year, I'll use all the time that was formerly dedicated to Tales to take care of myself and my mental health. I'll probably go back to pastel painting and since I love testing crafts and experimenting new stuff, I'll probably be busy with a lot of random DIY x). I also have a crazier idea of professional retraining to start something I was definitely not made for but hopefully my challenge runner mindset will help me overcome my fears about it. Wish me luck on that!
I don't know how to end this long description without sounding weird aaaaaaaahhhhhhh. I'll keep it simple then:
Thanks for those amazing 10 years together.
Many thanks to Vick for the NDX clock template in the trailer video. / @sailorvickvods

    Rules
    ═══════════════════
    • Philia Solo
    • No Damage
    • No Items
    • No Death
    • No Menu
    • No Herbs
    • No Party Change
    • No World Map Glitch
    • No Stat Bonuses on level up
    • No Physical Artes
    • Chaos Mode
I've been practicing and planning that fight for so long. I never thought I would be able to finally do it under those restrictions. However, I really started making some progress after finding a strategy against Ilene as it gave me the key to handle the different waves of enemies.
This Arena rank is completely BS. Endless waves of enemies cornering you from both sides, throwing projectiles, instant blasts and multiple stupid hitboxes at you... What could be possibly worse? Well, it's probably the fact that all enemies are invincible when being spawned. This is exactly like the Ilene fight. To quote my previous description "the mobs have i-frames for a good second when being spawned and they can almost attack instantly". If an enemy spawn in front of me, it's a guaranteed hit as I have (almost) no defensive option. The idea is to replicate the Ilene strategy by using Stop Flow on them which will give me enough time to kill them with a delayed spell. However, this is even harder here because for some reasons the developers decided that the enemies don't spawn all at once but little by little. This simple fact makes the whole arena infinitely harder for 2 specific and simple reasons. Since they don't spawn all at once, I have to delay the release of Stop Flow to stop everyone or else I will miss an enemy. The problem with that is that it makes me vulnerable for some time and it's not a possible option if the enemies spawn in front of me... The other issue with that is that all enemies end up with different i-frames timing. So if you release a spell to kill the first few enemies that are appearing, the enemies that appear slightly later will be able to tank the spell with i-frames. The worst part is that those hits will increase the duration of the i-frames, giving the enemies a very safe occasion to approach me.
This is where the nightmare of this Arena with No Physical Arte starts. Basically the whole fight is all about very precise and stupid spell releases to take down the enemies at the right moment without giving them the opportunity to counter attack. Each individual wave is already hard to tackle, but I had to plan everything ahead in order to survive. You MUST prepare the next wave of enemies before killing the current one and trust me, that was. not. easy. at. all.
    ═══════════════════
    Character Set up
    ═══════════════════
    ►Equipment:
Obviously, you should maximize Philia's Swordian Device before even trying the fight. Unlike the previous take 10 years ago, I decided to keep the cocktail dress. Since I'm at level 200 here, I don't get as much Blast and the strategy doesn't revolve around it either. I prefer to benefit the additional stun duration which helps me a lot against characters like Dalis or Hugo that can tank my spells without getting paralyzed. Since I'm using a lot of Big Bang and Holy Lance for solo fights, the Ritual Necklace is a given. As for the accessories, I'm obviously using level 8 purple gems for the critical rate bonus. This time I switched them completely. I went for a Fix gem as those 30CC really help when fighting Barbatos and if I do non-weakness combos. I also used an Edge gem for double damage. While I was against it initially (since I did the full run without it, and I could have added that as a restriction), I must admit I'm absolutely not able to survive so many waves if most enemies don't die quickly. So doing a 10+ mins fight like that was just too much for me.
    ►Artes:
For this fight, the spells were pretty easy to choose.
Fireball is the fastest spell to cast so it's very good when I need to get casting speed bonuses or to use the spell release i-frames.
Stone Wall is my way to go for this run. It acts as an amazing barrier and prevents enemies from reaching Philia. It also combos into Holy Lance.
Holy Lance is the best combo tool Philia has. It also activates very quickly so it's absolutely amazing against solo enemies.
Big Bang just hits like a truck and the whole battlefield. It's absolutely mandatory for this fight and can remove entire waves of enemies quickly.
Stop Flow is mandatory for this fight since it can stop every enemy on the field, even the one with i-frames, which is absolutely necessary to protect Philia.
Tidal Wave is one of the few water spells Philia has so it's very useful against HP sponges like Hugo. I could have gone with Ice Tornado but Tidal Wave's range + juggle ability makes it much better for this challenge.
Cyclone is also one of the few wind spells Philia can use. It is an amazing juggling tool and since Wind Arrow, Storm are strictly inferior, I went for it.
Piko Piko Hammer is the only spell able to hit Finley's weakness so I added it to my list to avoid having one very long fight against him.
Extension is an amazing spell here since it can hit the Sound weakness, which is shared by many human bosses and in particular Dalis / Barbatos. Without it the fight would have lasted forever.
Meteor Swarm can't be resisted by any enemy since it's non-elemental. It deals massive damage and is very useful when having to kill enemies whose weaknesses are hard to hit.
Flare Tornado is a very good juggle tool, has good range and triggers pretty fast. It's overall a very solid spell that can be used in many situations.
Black Hole has the capacity to pull enemies towards its center, even if it doesn't stagger. It's very good for keeping all enemies at the same place.

      [Part 2]
      ═══════════════════
      Phase 1: Story Bosses
      ═══════════════════
      ►Transition Wave: Wolf and Basilisks
The fight starts with very weak enemies that will pop after being hit by anything. It's the perfect occasion to start building casting speed. Fireball gets rid of the wolf and for the Basilisks I went for Stone Wall. Not only it's fast enough to kill them, but the idea is to let the basilisks walk towards the spell and die by themselves. Since they are pretty slow, they reach the spells pretty late and this gives me just enough time to prepare Stop Flow for the next wave. You'll also notice I do a small step in order to be a bit more to the center of the stage but I need to stay mostly on the left for the upcoming Tiberius wave.
      ►Wave 1: Batista & Seinegald soldiers
Bastista walks so fast that he can reach Philia before the i-frames are over. Thankfully, Stop Flow will take care of him. The position I'm at will always be far enough to prevent him from reaching me, whatever the attack he does. The problem is now getting rid of the soldiers since they can walk very fast and I can't let Batista alive since he is one of the most annoying enemies to deal with. I decided to use Cyclone against Batista, not only because I have enough casting speed to release it but it will kill Batista instantly and the AoE will protect Philia from the Soldiers. If they try to attack or jump on her, they will be cancelled by the spell. Since there will always be at least 1 soldier remaining, I used Tidal Wave to kill quite late. This gives me enough time to prepare Big Bang before the new wave appears.
      ►Wave 2: Tiberius & spear wielders
The wave starts with Tiberius being far away so he won't be able to reach me quickly. Then 2 spear wielders appear right in front of Philia. While I have no way to escape them, they attack quite slowly and thanks to the preparations during the previous wave, I always have enough time to cast Stop Flow before they hit me. Big Bang will get rid of them and trigger the reinforcements. All the spear wielders appear on the right. At that point I prefer to cast Meteor Swarm because the delay of the animation + its ability to never be resisted is able to kill all the spear wielders + Tiberius at once. Since they are all very close, it's likely that the spell will hit them all. If I don't kill Tiberius, I must use a back up plan to prepare Big Bang. I usually try Tidal Wave but the back up plans almost never worked for me x)
      ►Wave 3: Dalis & Chugly(s)
Having prepared Big Bang, I cast Stop Flow to prevent Dalis and the close Chugly(s) from reaching me. The Chugly that appears later won't be stopped but the last few hits of big bang will still kill it, leaving Dalis alone. Dalis is very resistant to spells and will need a weakness combo to die quickly, even though he is quite an early boss. This makes it much easier to prepare the spells for the next wave. I cast a few spells then Extension at the end to be sure the spell will kill him. During the animation, I backstep twice to reach the center of the map for next wave.
      ►Wave 4: Greybum & Weird fireflies
Greybum can charge and instantly reach you or use Lightning. I prepared Stop Flow to prevent that. This gives me just enough time to cast Big Bang (in order to kill everything on screen) + Fireball to stagger Greybum and push him away. I can then prepare one more Big Bang for the reinforcements. One backstep will put me at the only safe position from the fireflies. I must prepare Stop Flow for the next wave so the idea was to let the fireflies die just before they reach me. The timing is short but it works perfectly.
      ►Wave 5: Baruk & Victreebels
Baruk can use multiple attacks including its blast. Many of his attacks can grant him Penetrate and this will put an end to the fight if this happens, hence the necessary Stop Flow. Since the plants are resistant to light, it's better to use Meteor Swarm to kill them. They are all going towards Philia so it's even easier to hit them all. Baruk has no weakness, so he will take a bit longer to die. That gives me the occasion to prepare a delayed Big Bang and start casting Stop Flow before he dies.
      ►Wave 6: Ilene & Fidelits
One of the hardest wave... how surprising! Since all the Fidelits can shoot from afar and have i-frames, I had no choice but to use my Big Bang + Stop Flow combo to kill them. Unfortunately, this will always keep some alive since they appear slightly later. Ilene also arrives after so she is protected from the first Big Bang. I cast another one to clean the remaining enemies. Here, there's some RNG involved unfortunately. If Ilene does nothing or casts Ice Wall, I don't have to worry and can kill the Fidelits that come closer. If she starts casting Thunder Blade (which you can determine from where she starts casting), I have to backstep, forward step to dodge the Fidelit's laser and then cast Big Bang. Unfortunately this backup option puts me at high risk since it gives me even less time to dodge Rembrandt's attacks during the next wave.
      ►Wave 7: Rembrandt & Sword wielders
The Sword wielders have great range and good mobility. All I can do is wait for them to die from the previously cast Big Bang. The only defensive option I have is to jump. If Rembrandt shoots his aerial missiles, it's over for me, if he does anything else, I can still survive. This is also why the backup plan puts me at risk because it gives me less time to jump ; if Rembrandt uses his ground laser, I'm dead. You can see how much I struggle with the jump controls here, and even more with the inputs delay from Big Bang x). If I'm lucky enough and Big Bang crits Rembrandt, I can easily continue the combo. Otherwise, I have to bait one of his attacks with i-frames and counter.
      ►Wave 8: Hugo & Buers
No matter how the previous wave ends, I will always Blast here to kill all the Buers and leave Hugo alone. The reason is that they have lasers that can reach the whole battlefield and I can't use Stop Flow on all of them. Even worse, Hugo is immune to the Stop status effect. After that, it's a typical Hugo fight. I don't hit his weakness too early in order to build back casting speed and to prepare one Big Bang for the next wave.
      ═══════════════════
      Phase 2: Groups of Bosses
      ═══════════════════
      ►Transition Wave: Those things
The first monster can summon either Batista or Hugo... which is a big no no. The idea is to stop all enemies since I won't be able to kill the first one quickly enough. The problem is that if I stop him too fast, the other monsters will appear later and attack me. Thankfully the last one appears JUST before the summoning so I can stop all of them at once and prevent Hugo/Batista from spawning. I go with a double Big Bang to kill the remaining enemies and prepare the next wave.
      ►Wave 1: Doom swordsmen
I freaking hate this wave too. The first Big Bang will kill Batista and one Stop Flow will prevent Dalis and Tiberious from reaching me. The problem is that Greybum appears MUCH later and from the other side as well. I went with a very specific strategy which is unfortunately RNG dependent. I use Black Hole on the two Swordsmen and bait Greybum into reaching me. They will all get pulled towards the spell which will allow me to combo them all. Here, many things can happen again. Either Dalis gets hit by Extension and dies with the other enemies (it's unlikely but I never found a backup plan for this situation) or will be slightly pushed away and I'm back to the same situation I was earlier when fighting him, meaning I can prepare my Big Bang for the next wave.
      ►Transition Wave: Annoying sorceresses
Those humans are extremely trollish, since they appear little by little it's VERY hard to kill them all with one Big Bang. Most of the time, I fail and keep one alive. They can also use Fireball which means it's super hard to react to. Though killing all of them isn't too hard, the issue is to actually have the time to cast Big Bang and prepare another one for the next wave. It's all a timing thing and it's probably the hardest one to get in this video. I also feel like enemies don't always appear at the exact same time between runs... which would explain why this part of the strategy feels so inconsistent.
      ►Wave 2: Doom Corporation
Baruk will welcome you with his Blast, which means I have to use Stop Flow to prevent that from happening since I have no mean of dodging it. The delayed Big Bang will deal a lot of damage on him and kill Ilene in the process. If it doesn't hit Rembrandt that's okay. If anything, that's a good thing. Another good thing is how Hugo arrives slightly later. Since he is immune to stop the strategy wouldn't work with him on the field. The idea is to prepare Tidal Wave to start a weakness combo on him. In my first attempts, I was always blasting here to kill everyone, including Hugo and Rembrandt with a weakness combo. The problem is that I would end up with no Blast gauge for the next phase and I was never able to complete it without it. So what I did here is pretty tricky. I started a weakness combo with Tidal Wave, but made sure Rembrandt would recover from it before I trigger Rebirth Crusader. That way he would be the only one surviving my BC. I did this by basically jumping and landing only after he recovers. Notice that nice basic attack cancel on Hugo, that was totally not made on purpose but I'm so glad I got that on the final take xD.
The reason I want to keep Rembrandt is because his Artes are easy to bait to gain Blast. His laser in particular can grant me a full gauge at once. Once I have max Blast, I can simply kill it and advance to the next phase.

      [Part 3]
      ═══════════════════
      Phase 3: EX bosses
      ═══════════════════
      ►Transition Wave: Easter Bunny
Since I have an armor, the bunny can barely provide me any Blast. Not only that but its attacks are also way harder to bait (hence why I kept rembrandt alive for that). I simply killed it with a short combo. The good thing is that this bunny will always run towards you and not use any spell or projectile, so it's a nice breath of fresh air.
      ►Wave 1: Doom Rabbits
BLAST CALIBER IN YOUR FACE. Really, I didn't find any solution to kill them another way. They can stop time, use instant pikohans, throw billions of projectiles from both side and they attack instantly. Also blasting them makes me teleporting to the left side of the battlefield which is pretty useful for the next wave.
      ►Wave 2: Gentlemen
This is what I consider the last hard wave. After killing the gentlemen, things gets overall easier. The problem at that point is first that I have no casting bonus anymore so I need to build that back with fast spells and second that the Klarth Gentleman can counter my spells. He will be busy using his blast when spawning so it gives me time to cast a quick Fireball. After that I have to jump over the Hilda Gentleman. Following that dodge, I start casting Stone Wall only since the Klarth Gentleman can only counter it with Storm or Air Thrust, which I can simply dodge with backsteps. At that point it's all a matter of being able to start a combo before I get cornered by the spell counters. I got quite lucky here since he countered me only once. The Gentlemen are easy to juggle so I can safely use my different spells to hit their weaknesses. The last Gentleman will appear once 2 gentlemen are dead. It can run and fall on you instantly. I could have gone to the right side of the battlefield to avoid such a difficult situation but I absolutely needed to stay on the left for next wave. I decided instead to predict the death of the 2 gentlemen and release Stop Flow as the last Gentleman appears. I then use Black Hole and jump to make sure the remaining Gentlemen are gathered on the right while I stay completely on the left. I then start a new combo and prepare Stop Flow.
►Wave 3: Finley & bad game design armors
All the enemies appear on the right and by stopping them it gives me plenty of time to prepare my spells. The armor can resist every element so I have to spam Meteor Swarm to kill them. By alternating Meteor Swarm and Black Hole I can kill them safely while forcing everyone to stay on the right side, even if the enemies are not staggered. Once Finley is alone, it's just a matter of starting a weakness combo with Piko Piko Hammer. I absolutely need to finish him with a BC for 2 reasons that I explain just after.
      ►Wave 4: Barbatos
Barbatos appears on the left and while is a programmed to use Genocide Braver, if you are close to him, he can instanly use any physical attack. Blasting Finley makes me teleport to the right side of the screen and will force Barbatos to run towards me and use Genocide Braver. The second reason I needed to use my BC is that with a full blast gauge, I don't get enough i-frames to dodge Genocide Braver.
In any case, I'm used to start combos on Barbatos so most of the fight is nothing really special. The most interesting part is towards the end. You see me blast a bit earlier. The truth is that I didn't input the right spell and was about to drop the combo. I wasn't sure if Barbatos was going to survive or not but it was safer that way. This leads to having to finish the fight with a low HP Barbatos and oh god, is he scary that way. He almost never stops attacking and countering him is near impossible with anything else than Fireball or Stone Wall. In fact, the best way to beat him is very counterintuitive... It's to bait for World Destroyer. World Destroyer can be dodged like any attack but the problem is that it empties your Blast gauge. Thankfully I had practiced that situation so I know exactly what to do here. Aside from the trollish Big Bang counter (Big Bang vs World Destroyer... got it?), you can see me reposition myself after World Destroyer. That's because Barbatos will always follow with Genocide Braver, and with proper positioning, I can force Barbatos to run away in order to use it. I can then easily counter it with Stop Flow and end the fight with one simple combo.

Thanks for the years of entertainment Muc been watching for years upon years. I've watched many challenge runners over the years but I have to say I always thought you were the best. You always showed a side to these games around the way you would try to dodge or weave around or use unconventional ways to play around limitations over some characters movements as well as combined a really cool melee/spell mixed playstyle. I hope the best for your ventures going forth!

After discovering your solos, I started to think that many solos I did in the past could have been done damageless or at the very least much more cleanly. Basically, you showed me that impossible doesn't exist in the Tales series. Best of luck in your future. I'm 1000% certain you will excel at whatever you decide to apply yourself to!

I remember watching the other version of this and challenge videos like these were a big part of me seeking out any semblance of a Tales community. Unfortunately even by the release of that video, there really wasn't much of a Tales community that I could find. It was all incredibly disappointing. Even the places that I did find were just awful and uncomfortable to be in. So finding you redoing the challenge except without even the use of the "physical" artes is a bit bittersweet for me, doubly so when I hadn't touched Destiny R back then and I've recently finished the main story now.

Thank you for all the work you've put in, Muc. Understand I haven't been here long, though it's been a pretty cool ride. Opened my eyes to how far these games can be pushed (Gurren Lagann style :P). Honestly made me incredibly interested in playing Phillia that I started using her whenever I get a chance to play through DC with friends! Understand you will be missed though, I and I'm sure others wish you will in your future endeavors. (Loved the paintings you showed on stream!)
    Keep it fresh, dude! 💖

Great work, I enjoyed the in-depth runs you made over the years. I wish you the best in your new endeavors. Obviously, you have a great dedicated skill set.
I wish Tales was more popular but as you said, it is a very niche community. But alas, so long as the new games keep coming I'm happy.

Yeah, I hope Namco will keep working on Tales but the lack of efforts these past years is pretty depressing. Hopefully, they will soon start doing (high quality) ports of older entries!

@@Muctales I would love remakes! The older games were a bit before my time. My first was Symphonia (and best still IMO) but that's just kinda how first loves go.
Arise was a reaaallly good game story wise. Battle was a bit lacking, but I love the ground/arial composition.

@@Muctales Dude if I knew you were coding all these good cutscenes I would have jump to help earlier x]
It makes sense with your skill set, but it's still crazy to me haha.
I still want to help on the making of, it just sounds too interesting to not happen at some point.
Talking did help me motivate actually trying the Judith run, doing the animation etc.
Which I'll definitely finish, just IRL stuff got in the way ^^'

So this is what its like to witness the end of an era...😢
Im gonna miss you Muc. We all will. But youve made your mark on this series and inspired all of us in ways I couldnt even describe, through sheer knowledge and skill.
I may have not talked or interacted wirh you much, and I regret that greatly, but just know that Ive always had nothing but respect for you from afar. Even in the games I know nothing about, I alwaya see a high bar that you set wuen it comes to anything that you do. In a way, my own current thoughts and oerfectionism regarding my own run is inspired by how you hold to your own standards of play. Put simply: Seeing your content made me want to better myself.
But all good things must come to an end. Im just glad that you got to go off on your own terms, and can move on to other endeavors with a clear mind. I wish you all the best in whatever it is you do, and enjoy your freedom.

      @Muctales  6 месяцев назад +1

Thanks a lot Jak. I appreciate the kind words. Don't worry about the lack of interactions. In the end, I realize I wasn't much better at this either.
I'm glad my videos inspired you in some ways and hopefully this will sparkle some interest in trying those games!
I wish you all the best for your channel and projects, but be careful about perfectionism. Time flies too quickly so make sure you don't end up waking up one day, wondering why you spent so much time on details most people won't even notice. Remember you don't have anything to prove anymore, you're already the most enjoyable Ludger player to watch ;)

@@Muctales Long live Chugly! And dang, what wonderful farewell! I must have watched the other version of this a million times and always thought that was the best of the best, but this take still somehow surpasses it! Spell release i-frame use was amazing and I absolutely snorted when you jumped over Greybum's charge and he flew into the Black Hole.
On a more personal note, I'm sad to see the end of your era, but the memories and friendships will last a lifetime! If you hadn't encouraged me to join A4E, we never would have become friends and I'd have never met Kev, Cielo, Samu, Jak, Vick, Vik and everyone else, for which I'll be eternally grateful! I'm very glad you're taking your creative prowess in new directions and I hope you have a wonderful time expressing yourself in a different way!

Hm, we spoke on a lot of the end last year so I won't go into that. I'll be honest here because this is simply directed to you, no one else.
In the end, we've clashed and reconciled. Regressed and progressed alike as people as we got older. I sometimes think back to those old days, young and full of energy. Egos lit like wildfires, but all in all it was necessary steps to get where we are today. We spoke here and there outside of Tales stuff and I remember you once saying we both were incredibly similar in our views. Even if we didn't become close friends I always held you with a high measure of respect, in the realm of Tales and even beyond it.
As far as Tales, you're the only person I ever saw eye to eye. The only person I will most likely ever see on that level. Someone on equal footing and even at times beyond what I could or was willing to do. Your effort, tenacity, and commitment often pushed me to excel harder and more than a few times did I compare my efforts to yours when I felt I was slipping over the years. We went different directions with our content and motivations, but I feel our love and dedication for the series are matched. You were a rival in this realm and an ally when it came to improving the craft for the shared love of Tales. There were many times I would have walked away had it not been for your content reinvigorating me. For that, I will always be thankful. I will remember your name and carry your memory with me until the end. You did a magnificent job.
Past that, I know you will succeed in your endeavors and getting yourself together. Progress, not perfection. You take care of yourself Muc.

Thanks a lot Clip. It was not always easy but as you said, thoses clashes were necessary and participated to my own growth. In the end, I'm glad we were able to put the past behind.
I really appreciate the kind words. As you probably already know, if it wasn't for you, Kev and TickingDeath, I wouldn't even have started challenge runs. You will still be a big reason to why this channel even exists and I'm thankful for that.
Best of luck with your own channel and all your future projects.
