- This young ex race horse is idolised by his owner! But He has really hurt her a lot but she tried her utmost to make things work out. He can kick very hard, is scared of so much and spooks violently! He forgets you are there and ploughs you down, Steve again uses all his skills to help both horse and owner.

I can see Candy has her heart into her horse. He is lucky to have an owner like her. Thoroughbreds are so disposable in the racing industry. They deserve love and a good home like Candy has given her horse. ❤
I enjoyed the fact that Candy stayed focused. She wasn't talking or distracted, just watching and learning! Beautiful pair of horse and rider!
Retire racers need a lot of patience but have tons of heart. Bravo to Candy for changing his life!
Lovely horse. Thank you, Candy, for saving him. Great work on helping him be a respectful boy.💖
He reacted to that measuring stick like I do to Huntsmen spiders. He is a beautiful looking horse. ❤
He's very smart & it's nice to see him relax & get in a good groove . He's enjoying relaxation
I can't believe ,as someone who has never been interested in horses before, how fascinated I've become with these horsemanship videos. It's a pleasure to watch someone so in tune with a horses psyche that they can take an animal scared of the world and give them some peace and calm. Bravo.
I know what you mean. I have ridden a horse 15 to 20 times in my life and of the 9 channels I am subscribed to 3 of them are horse.
/ training channels
Candy's horse is very fortunate to have someone who's not giving up on him. Lots of troubled horses that injure their owners are just put down after being labelled dangerous. The life of a racehorse is so unnatural it's a marvel that they can go on to be magnificent riding horses. And they really are!
Great job Candy! Beautiful horse!!
Candy and her talented horse are a beautiful match, and I see a wonderful life together for them thanks to you Steve.💖🤗🐴💖
Whether with horses or dogs (or really any animal)...the human female must unlearn her reflexes to show love by being close and nurturing. It's the way humans do it, but animals don't. Little animals are taught this lesson before puberty hits. Nature is wise. But in all honesty, we humans also only get close in relationships of trust and respect. Way to go Candy!
Candy, no doubt that horse is going to make an awesome partner for you, because you are willing to put the time into him. He's beautiful, and so smart! Gallop on, girl!
Hello from America!!! It's heartwarming to see someone look past the lack of training of an ex-race horse to see the jewel the horse wants to be. Great job Candy!! I know you have found a heart-horse and are willing to put in the time and care to form a great bond. The way her face lit up when listing all the good he is said it all. Keep Steve updated so that we can cheer you and your horse on with your journeys.
Good for you Candy!
I have a OTTB as well and she did just the same in the beginning. I got her with 2,5 and she is now 6. We don't ride but do a lot of groundwork. It pays off. Big time. Candy you have a wonderful horse!!! You do great
I spent most of my life in Zimbabwe and all my horses were ex-racehorses. Thoroughbreds are fantastic horses, intelligent and giving. Once they came off that high energy food and were allowed to chill out in paddocks, they became calm and easy to handle and train. They have incredible stamina and make wonderful eventers and dressage horses. I had great love and respect for my thoroughbreds.
I love how they look too.
Awesome…that horse went from super nervous to fairly calm! Amazing transformation!
It amazes me how watching your videos, has not only given me a huge warm smile but lessons for an approach own life and how to better myself in a positive way. Thank you for your training lessons that transfer to my human life. I gain a new perspective how to change unhealthy feelings to something positive. If I breakdown fixing my issue using your gentle, forgiving methods on myself, I’m not overwhelmed. When using a new techniques ( given to me by a professional) during a challenging human situation your “horse” advice really works. When I face my fears, it takes time, practice, and also time to rest in between to let the new positive feeling sink in and get rid of my old ways. It’s is the small steps and time that lead to good outcomes that can make life better. Than you Steve and all who support you! 🙏🤩😎
Well bloody good on you for being able to translate from horsemanship to self care! Wouldn't have occurred to me...Do Take Care, I think you've got this by the sounds of it.
He is gorgeous and intelligent. What a gem of a horse
Good work Candie! I also had an OTTB, although he had been off track for quite a long time😂. Still, it’s the foundational work that’s missing, right? Spot was 18.2 hands and he would run through me, push me all over the place, and yet they are so sensitive! It’s kinda crazy. Wish I’d known about Steve back then!! My arms were often black and blue and cut and scraped. But I loved him dearly. In the end it’s all worth it, just keep following Steve’s advice and that horse will love you just as much as you love him❤
Candy did absolutely the right thing bringing you in to help. Sounds like she'll do well with her horse now that he is settling down.
Candy your smile while loading him said volumes! Bravo! You got this! 🎉
What a lucky horse to have Candy as an owner. So many race horses face a terrible fate at such a young age. Also, Candy has an absolutely beautiful smile. I was thinking about how Steve tells us that Buck Brannaman teaches his students to smile when we’re looking at our horses’s feet. Candy’s smile will tame those feet in no time. Thanks for all you do,
Steve and family!
Way to go, Candy! Best of times for you and your handsome boy!❤
James's edits are excellent.
Thank you for another fantastic learning video. I step at a time.
"Don't you jump!" that was great.
GREAT VIDEO, STEVE!! That gave that horse SO MUCH more CONFIDENCE and will give Candy more CONFIDENCE, with HIM, as well! THANKS, STEVE! LOVE your VIDEOS!!
Excellent work. Candy learned so quickly and was not hesitant to get her horse to respond. Bravo. ❤️
I hope you guys are doing ok after the hurricanes in Florida! Great video Steve!
Great Work Candi!!❤😊
He's going to be your Heart Horse for sure!! Well Done!!
If I was younger I would love to train horses like you do. I have always been able to let an animal know that I wasn't afraid of them.
Ever the alpha, And lots of love..
I really like watching your work. It's phenomenal.❤
Im sure Candy will be brilliant with her horse as she so determined. Love all your videos
That was an insanely fast kick in the stall. Dangerous for sure.
And it was a "side hook"! Double dangerous.
"Crack on" Candy!❤ It's obvious you love your beautiful boy! You must be so proud of yourself!🎉 Looking good in the demo! Many 😊Happy trails, & God bless from Florida, USA!
Thanks for the update on Polly. Loved seeing the daddy! As suspected that foul is going to be a good size !! I can't wait!!!
Just a reminder, as I suspect you already know, the footage of the bay stallion jumping was an example of what the daddy Could look like. We don’t know which bay stallion is the daddy. ❤
Beautiful job. Such a positive learning experience. She is a lovely person.
Well done Candy beautiful Horse.
Thanks for your compassionate work with horses and thank Steve for your magical help.💜😊💜
I looked after my friends horse when she went on holiday many years ago,but never had my own.Im now a pensioner and love watching your incredible work ,the knowledge you continually share with others,is fascinating to watch. In this video you can see Holly is listening and observing every precious moment that you explain. We are so lucky to witness the changes during each session, and its so clear that Holly is going to continue and enjoy her riding more and more.,
Interesting place with such high fences. Beautiful horse with a great future with this owner in sight.
No doubt in my mind Candie will work hard and they will make a great team thanks for planting the seed for them Steve🥰🇨🇦Sharon.
The kings horses at horse guards in London are Irish draft horses! Stunning!
Wishing them both well! A great team!
Always fascinated how quickly the change comes as you work with the horses. Another horse and it's caring owner helped, well done Steve ❤
A very intelligent horse and learns very fast! You will do great with him! He is beautiful and very smart! You will be ok Candie you are learning from the best horseman❤
So glad he was too slow and is going to learn a different way of being. Candy is so brave to put herself on a public platform to assist other owners with race horses. So many of them end up in double decker buses to Mexico for slaughter. Love the reminder not to hand feed and the importance of ground work. I'm a non-rider that has learned so much about horses by subscribing to your channel.
Allowing 20 minutes peace for horse to absorb and think is crucial and often understated.. (...note for Steve). "Clever Cowgirl" recently also realised this.. but after a long time of trying... if you watch her videos.. It is all so interesting that you offer good advice that often is not known by other lovely horse experts Steve!!! 😊
thanks for the explanation of your methods but no need, you are among the best horseman ever.
Still helps us non-horse people understand
@@robinrutherfordcost4748 good point.
She is a good horsewoman. Well done candy. 😎🤓
Wow Steve what a change. I could see his head carriage change around 7.36 with you in the stable. Candi’s smile as he made his way into the horse box was amazing.
Steve & Tanya, I sure miss your chit chat in the car, your lunch & dinner, and whatever is going on before, in between, or after the horse training. Why stopped? Please add them back.
I was taught the one rein stop years ago .and a group of lads in a car thought it would be funny to aim at me,revving up and loud radio 🤬. The horse reared and went to bolt but luckily stopped , training is sooo important ❤
Good stuff. 👍🐎
Well done, Candy, and another great video from Steve & Tanya & family. I always enjoy seeing the meals too!!
Candy the race horse whisperer! You are a natural, well done x
Candie - You were so effective at soaking in all of the info and skills being conveyed by Steve and then applying it all like a champ. Great job Candie & Steve and the team.
Well done Candy the best is still to come
Well done!!!!! Another horse and rider helped plus all of us in watchland.
👍👍
I love you and your wife so much!!!!! You guys are fantastic!
Awesome that Candy asked for help and has offered to have her horse help others learn how to not hand feed and how to pet a horse. Her relationship with her horse will only get better with clear communication. Ask any happily married couple if communication matters! There's more time for the love when there are rules and communication.❤
Great job Candy! Beautiful boy! You’ve got this Candy!
Great job Candy. Keep going!
A great video! I see how Candi ( and her horse) listened to you and I know it’s going to be just fine! You showed her the way to go Steve and I wish them both a beautiful future together!!!❤️
The horse looks good too 😂
Polly is a gorgeous horse! The foal will be beautiful. Another great lesson Steve!
Great. Love to see the race horses rescued. Beautiful. Thank you Steve and Candy.
Of all the horse and rider combinations you have worked with Candy and this horse are in the top 5 that you watch and know they will be successful. He is a stunning horse and she has the tools and attitude to work through anything with him. The short foundation you provided has opened a whole new relationship between Candy and the horse. One of my favorite pairs you have worked with.
All the best widhes to Candy and her wonderful horse! He was such a sweet boy with Steve and during the demo video ❤
He’s beautiful ! Keep up the good loving work ! 😊
Great as usual Steve and I reckon you must be the most fit person going ❤❤
Great video Stevo!
Beautiful horse, just stunning 😍
She’s an amazing woman you and your horse will go far now you have got Steve’s training methods.
I wish I knew Steve 30 years ago as my horse was also a ex racehorse my horse. Was 16.2 called sole grumpy bit the yard owner but riding he used to nap really bad when I got him in from the field he would pull me over I was young didn’t know how to stop this behaviour
So you will do well as you know how to do these things to improve your horse
Candy has her heart horse - they’re going to be a magic team. Another great video for this non-owner horse lover to enjoy 😊
Well done Candy! You’re working so hard and so it your x-race horse! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
You are such a great horse trainer and teacher. I enjoy watching all you do and If I were Candy, I would also take on what you achieved with her horse, i.e. without all the heavy petting. I like her affection for her horse, a wonderful quality in any human, but you achieved what you did without it as it makes a lot of sense. I hope Candy takes this part of your teaching and lessens touching him as heavily as she did, as she can still love him without the over-stimulated rubbing, which is entirely her need, and not her horse. You are a wonderful trainer!
I thought this horse has a wonderful disposition (for a race horse) and was actively seeking leadership and guidance. He does not have the temperament to be a leader but felt he was being forced into that role. Once you showed him he had a leader, he was much more calm and responsive and was willingly asking what you were wanting. I can see him being a great trail or event horse and I think Candy will be the leader he has been seeking. Good job Candy!
33.58 in could not wait till end.unbelIevable.not blowing smoke.just incredible.thanks Steve tan and family ❤
A friend of mine bought a race horse for cheapo because the horse had almost killed two grooms and was no longer welcome on tracks. He turned him out with a band of ranch mares to let them adjust his attitude. It works, because mares are 24/7 keeping the stallions in line.
Wonderful video. I always appreciate that you take the time to explain why you are doing something and what to look for. Candy was very receptive to everything you were doing to help. I have no doubt she will be using your techniques on any other horses she owns in the future. Well done both of you!
The horses are so glad to have leadership .as they would in a herd .great job steve ❤
Great work on this one again, and the luck of the Irish on the previous horse I bet the foal will end up being a topper
How nice for Susan! Can't wait to see the baby, you should grab that one!
What a lovely horse, Candy is doing a great job with her big buddy. I think he really likes his owner and does a great job with her.
Thoroughbreds lives are stress when in training. Many are confined, led by the beard, cross tied, anti rearing bits, tongue tied, whipped when trying their heart's out, twitched, fed high grain, have the start of or ulcers, injuries etc. And really need time to let down and be treated with fairness, empathy and consistency. Love your training, kindness and empathy with horses. You are doing so much for horses around the world.
Candy was absorbing everything you did. She is doing an amazing job with him, after. He's is such an intelligent horse and fast learner.
Steve, your views about hand feeding finally clicked with me. The comment asking...would an alpha lead let another horse take food from them? Absolutely not! I get it.
4:05… hasn’t he got kind eyes 😊
Another great video! ❤
This was a wonderful video for people that get off the track TBs. They should be asked to view it before taking horses home.
Amazing Steve.
Hope you have decided about going to the USA.
Love the African Grey serenade
Oh, Steve! I am in love with you! It is so sexy to watch you training the horses🤭… with such confidence and intelligence! I am always so amazed with every video I watch of you with horses! I have always loved horses, but never had the fiscal opportunity to learn to handle horses. You are living my dream.
Well done candy im sure your relationship will be great 👍
That was wonderful work and Candy will have a cracking horse as she implement your groundwork. The fact that she wanted to go to the demo day, shows her commitment. 👏🏻
Well done Candy .Tremendous Steve, your a Diamond
I know dogs not horses and they are such different creatures. I started watching your videos long ago and it took me such a long time to understand what you meant by "disengage", but after a while I learned all your terminology and understand your techniques and it's wonderful to watch the difference it makes in the horses behavior.
Thank you for the in-depth explanations half-way through the video.
Candy did a really good job with her gelding.
Top👍😁🥰🍀Thank you.
What a great video💗🐎💗 That horse had a great demeanor and energy🙌💗🙌🐎💗😊 He was learning a lot, and soaking it up🙌Thank you, great vid🙌🐎
That’s exactly what my horse does … ohh goodness!
