Yes, but then people would complain why the console prices were too high. Better performance needs better hardware. I think there should be two new generation consoles: a regular one and another much more expensive like $900 so customers have options.

The Pro usually does have that option, I have a 4k TV but won't be making full use of it till the PS5 drops.

That water in the daylight scenes is awful.
There are better water effects on PS2. Instead of designing something they slapped a poor automatic effect on it.

@@huppupappa1637 He's right thought, I remember when I played the first Grid game on the PC and PS3 and it was way better on the PC because of being 60fps, the controls felt tighter and the game overall felt easier because of it.

Need For Speed has always excelled at night time racing tracks. Playing NFS Underground on a PS2 emulator, or even the PC version in 4k, may look somewhat dated, but it still looks fantastic despite its age. The neon light trails and simple reflections from the consistently wet pavement, still make NFS Underground a good looking game after all these years.
The problem with the latest NFS looks like a combination of pop up, and texture fade in. The Frostbite Engine always resulted in a few issues on base consoles, and it looks like even though its performance improved, those are still issues. By comparison to other racing games that are on PC, as good as the night time scenes look in the latest NFS, the overall game doesn’t hold a candle to Dirt Rally 2.0, the latest Forza, or the even the original Project Cars, which still looks stunningly realistic during daytime sequences for an older game.
That being said, the arcade style handling and the tracks in NFS look fun, and are pretty much the main selling point. Hopefully it does well because it’s nice to have options when it comes to racing games to balance out the huge amount of sim racing games currently available.
ArtofZen Digital On consoles, it's quite the oppose. There are far more arcade style racers than sims. It's much more refreshing to see another sim in the console space than another arcade
NFS Underground 2 is still my most preferred nfs game. The night time racing and all the bright neon lights are just breathtaking, especially considering the year it came out
Great video as always. I hope they give us an option to disable the aggressive sharpening filter and film grain on PC in a later patch. At the moment, there's only a mod on reddit which removes it.
Frostbite seems so be legging behind a lot compared to other engines this generation. What a shame, it was a reference on the previous generation. Today, just DICE can get to show its full potential, and even then it is not like other engines can look just as good and are better optimized or suited to a lot more than FPS.
Yeah but battlefield 1, battlefront 2 and bfv on X1X are still among the most impressive console games this gen.
Thats because the engine is made for FPS games. That's why all other types of games look terrible.

the worst thing is their trash tier SSR and cubemapping; which I know from BF5 will look no better on pc without hacking the game. No way in a million years they would leave it looking that bad in this or BF5 without Nvidia lining their pockets to make RTX pop more on PC.

Man does it look good. I also love HDR. I am sucker for HDR. I might get it. I also love a good upgrade/unlocks/new cars loop in a racing game, so thats good news. In fact, i read and watched quite a few reviews now and no one cared to mention those things. Very well done Digital Foundry. You are always my goto.

I haven't played NFS since Most Wanted on the original Xbox (I'm 30). This game reminds me so much of NFS: Underground 2. I'm really impressed with everything about this game. Graphics, art direction, design. Really satisfied.

The "Xbox 360 Stuff" mod for Most Wanted came out recently. It ports over most of the HD visual features over to PC that only the 360 version of the game had like shaders, lighting effects and textures. The mod gets pretty close to looking PS4-like at times!

It was a benchmark run for Red Dead 2 (I got the email for it before it was privated) that was likely a part of their larger recent analysis of the PC version, (or perhaps Alex's upcoming video) and not meant to be it's own video which is why it's privated.

Its FH4 looks Amazing but the racing is boring, and no sense of speed whatsoever and the story is nonexistent.
FH4 is boring though. This game makes your heart pound in police chases. Small difference ;) Also, Heat runs 60fps on PCs easily. My i5 4430 + RX580 can handle it on medium/high and they're quite budget options.
As someone who plays racing games way more than anything else, I do agree it looks and feels better at 60fps, but I personally don't mind 30fps. Regardless of what frame-rate developers target, stability is way more important to me personally.
Frame drops in racing games can easily throw you off, especially online. It's useless to have a game targeting 60fps and not really maintaining it. In NFS Heat case, I own both the PC and Xbox One X version and I gotta say the Xbox One X has been more enjoyable to play. The PC release simply isn't as stable as its console counterpart despite running it off an SSD on an 8700K with 32GB RAM and a 2080Ti.
Once you experience 60fps, you don’t want to go back to 30fps. Sometimes these reviews over analyze the content but it’s needed to hold the developers at a higher standard and show them we expect better. I can deal with reflections/shadows being aliased and backgrounds being less sharp and clear but that water was terrible. They should also always offer a 60fps option in settings even at the cost of resolution. Let the gamer decide what is best for them.
That's why I don't give two shits about metacritic and goty awards. Critics giving perfect 10's to 30fps games is a joke. Only casuals with low standards would do that.
That is why 2 years later I purchased this game I would have purchased at launch just out of curiosity for my ps5 as it’s just 6 dollars on psn. The 30 fps still infuriates me. I’ll certainly delete it before the weekend is over.

Raytracing in gaming is basically nothing by now. I dont want to be rude, but I bet you're one of those people who only heard about raytracing after NVIDIA came up with the release of the RTX's card. People who work with raytracing since the past decade (( yes raytracing isnt a new thing as many people think )) knows very well that gaming raytracing its just BS.
@@paulofernando7858 i cannot get the 2000$ for something not importent , the RTX 2080Ti runs at 4K 60fps which is something the Pro and the X cannot achieve to be honest only on their own exclusives but the problem the X and the Pro is targeting 30 frames at 4k is that they are still using Jaguar CPUs and that's weak to take a shot for the 4K60FPS , but in the end these consoles are from 300 to 500$ and they still perform good and rtx 2080Ti it self cost more then a kidney and a soul for running 4k with more 30 fps and a technology which is useless aka RTX which is only was a bit of benefits on battlefield 5 only

It's a shame it doesn't support rtx on pc. Frostbite supports it and the biggest problem in car game graphics are probably reflections. They're good but anyone can tell they don't look quite right

I’ve had it running on series x now and find it really hard to look at during the day. The cars look great, but the part where you turn the vehicle is where the graphics break down if you look at the background. Specifically the trees. It almost looks like the foreground and background are rendering at different frame rates, and I find that makes the trees blurry AF. To the point where I can’t even watch someone else play it.
I played it previously on a slim ps4 and now on series S and for both consoles I always thought the day time looked fine, even great in some points of the map. Maybe it's a subjective thing and most people seem to dislike it, but even though the night time is the obvious winner I'm totally fine with de daytime visuals.

Depends really. Sims undoubtedly need 60, but some arcades like Driveclub can get away with it.
Get PC. COnsole games will always use 30 fps because they will keep pushing graphics over framerate.
I used the 70 dollars budgeted on that online only piece of shit called GT7 to get nfs payback, nfs heat,team sonic racing, nitro kart refueled and Grid Legends. Five fully offline no micro transactions games over that one pathetic excuse of a game from the ultra greedy polyphony and their criminal mastermind daddy Sony

Not trying to defend it, but No-Weather daytime is the ugliest time in every game, they could've picked any other time of day or put some sort of weather into it to add some perceived beauty.

Forza Horizon 4's physics are just way better for me to give up, plus they added 100+ cars plus two major really good expansions since release. I'd hardly see Heat doing any better in the long run.

The FH4 expansions were rather disappointing IMO. Fortune Island as a map was decent but no multiplayer. And LEGO was fun for 2 days before it felt too gimmicky, also no multiplayer. It was a huge contrast to the FH3 expansions (Blizzard Mountain and Hot Wheels) which were both amazing. FH4 as a whole is a better game than FH3 thanks to seasons, Forzathon, route creator and a lot more cars, but I can’t help but feel incredibly bored with the British landscape already. FH5 better takes place in an exotic landscape again, maybe Argentina + Chili and it would include the Andes mountains + Buenos Aires.
@@Breyzipp I agree with much of what you said, though I'm mostly saying this is why a lot of people might be dissuaded from getting Heat (including me). You'd be lucky to get an extra dozen cars in this game, let alone have an entirely new map to play on. Seems to me like this will not do as well as FH4 or even the Crew 2. There's just so much baggage from sub-par entries (Pro Street was the beginning of the end for me) plus all the emphasis on microtransactions they dumped on Payback. It's a lot to recover from.

Baked lighting doesn't support dynamic objects/time of day but it looks way better than real time GI with everything Dynamic.

For those who are playing on the normal Xbox One/PS4 (NOT the Xbox One X and PS4 Pro), are you having any graphical errors/stutters with your game? I’m on the Xbox One and the draw distance is absolutely horrible and textures won’t load unless I’m right in front of them (Also things like buildings and trees fail to load properly unless I’m right next to them). If anyone has any recommendations on how to fix this, I would greatly appreciate the help.
Being a 6 year old console,base PS4 is such a beast.

Not just that horrible SSR water.. The way the motion blur seems to be stitched together with a visible seam right in front of the camera also looks disgustingly bad.
All NFS does is make me want a new BurnOut Paradise using the lighting model presented here. I have to agree too that a 1080p/60 option would have been great to have. Personally, 4K simply isn't worth it if the resolution is at the expense of frame rate.

Not in the video but I have the PC version and I can't for love nor money get more than 70 to 80fps when I'm trying to hit 144.
Even setting everything to low the frames barely shift above 70s. Using a 5700xt 32gb ram and i74790k.
I can vouch for this, I get insane amounts of I/O stutter when I'm in the city areas and I don't think it's GPU related
Wonder if we will ever see a return to track based racing in most racing games, I've never been a fan of open world driving games going back to need for speed underground 2. I think driving around to various events dilutes the experience.

I like both options for day and night. Gives u 2 diff types of game in one. I think it's a proper NFS release. It is an arcade racer at heart so fleshing out the world isn't really a thing in this genre. It's about the car's and racing and upgrades. Have to give it up to EA on this one. ✌

I feel the same .I think the reviewers and critics have spoiled all the fun in most of the games and games have got more complicated with unnecessary quests and tasks rather than just focussing on the main story .We need for single player story focussed games .
I can offer to you the Next-gen gaming experience, called "Find a girlfriend". It's unique mix of quest, action-adventure and even horror with elements of puzzle. It also has some unexpected plot-twists, which may cause heart-attack.

It’s a pretty good looking game especially at night. Hopefully they will either fix or the remove the SSR from the river/ocean in a future update. As you said, its implementation in this scenario wasn’t the best. I’m looking forward to seeing how the long term support is for the game and if they are able to do a few more optimizations regarding graphical performance.
The city is so empty, I wish they can add a few pedestrians like in open world like GTA series, it's like deserted place with neons and lights

The base Xbox One version looks like NFS: Undercover on my PS2. And that came out in 2008.

That Mustang looks weird. What year is it supposed to be? It looks like a 65 with a 67 rear fascia. Actually, the tail lights look like 69-70 with the trim removed.

Rivals is the hardest since Hot Pursuit 2010 (haven't tried heat yet), not saying it's a bad thing though but the cops are soo relentless

I was watching this than began to have even less desire to play this. Not because of DF but when he started to describe the gameplay. How is this game any different to all the previous n4s. Ea make as much changes to this franchise as they do to fifa. There are developers who put more change in a game patch than ea do to a sequel

The only downside on the ps4 pro with 2160p is the community wraps they are bugged they scale with resolution this does not happen with 1080p resolution so its clear a bug.
For me the game looks great, its a need for speed game, i dont expect much graphically, just gameplay and story, i love the game, and i play on pc, but i dont mind playing the game on 30fps, why cause its a racing game, shooter, give me 100fps, racing im ok with 30
