I've been working on this video since July, and the news that Bakeru would get a translation and release for the West was announced as I was editing the final video. I had to refilm and re-edit a lot of the video, so I hope that explains why some of this video feels a little weird. Thanks for understanding!
If I had a nickel for every recently released 3D platformer with a mechanic where you physically screw bolts in the actual corresponding direction, I’d have two nickels.
I'll be honest, growing up a PlayStation, kid I never played any of them. I didn't even hear about the series until I discovered this game and looked into it. It looks like something that'd be right up my alley.
Interesting. I was so busy with this video and my last one I didn't even think to play the English demo, much less think that they'd change anything (aside from the translation, of course). Wonder why they did that?
@@TripleEye_Josh They actually added new attacks to Bakeru's moveset while also speeding him up and making him smoother to control. They also upped the difficulty a bit for the worldwide release. Pretty neat. As far as the Spike Chunsoft's translation goes, it's pretty faithful to the original Japanese script going off of the newly released demo from what the former folks behind the fan translation checked. This is the best outcome we wanted out of a localization considering the fan translation got a C&D earlier this year from a law-firm representing Good-Feel.
This looks like a good jrpg from early hack and slash in 1990 with collectaton mechanics... If it wasnt from the gimmicks and colletacton, it would remind me of senran kagura, who also was on nintendo, but was to stick with playstation. I would love to see sony ressurrecting senran kagura with the hype from this game, where you collect used panties in vending machines in a japanese hack n slash type of game that is senran kagura, but done in a fully open world perspective done similiar to final fantasy 7 rebirth. Seeing that square enix is gone, i think senran kagura can be a substitute for that, and also that game that has poor perfomance. Maybe could be a romance crossover later with senran kagura and this game character? Just ideas.
Also, these types of games that where on Nintendo but are now on Sony could be used as mascots, similar to Jak and Dexter and ratchet and clank, as a partnership to serve as mature mascots from hack n Slash games to introduce to broader, family friendly grown ups a hack n Slash important triple a Sony title, like god of war. It would be a masterpiece! Like that sex minigame, but with senran kagura and This protagonist. It would introduce the nostalgia to gow that This generation never had.
WTF it came out today???????? This random video is literally how I learned of it :D Im showing support by buying! I hope that was part of your intention haha to advertise the game...
The best non first party 3D platformers available on Switch are Penny's Big Breakaway and Blue Fire. This looks fun but I'm skeptical of the "best" claim
I mean it's simply not a 3D platformer. I played the translation that somehow came out a month after the game lol; it's all right and I played through the whole thing. It is not goemon though. I'd say it's more of a beat em' up? There is NO platforming
Great game, started getting a bit fatigued towards the end though due to the repetitive nature of the combat. Nonetheless I will definitely pick up the Western release in the near future, especially if some of the performance issues get ironed out.
Yeah, I kinda got some of that feeling too. Even with the introduction of new powers the combat doesn't change much (at all). It would have been nice if the combat were more fleshed out, but I don't consider it to be a major part of the game so it didn't bother me too much.
@@bobbysworldofficial I am considering getting the Steam version actually, where I have less concerns regarding the performance. I think it'll be a consistent 60.
@@bobbysworldofficial Well, we dont know if the game will have a higher frame-cap than 60 even if its likely. So I set the bar at 60 for now, and for a platformer 60 is plenty good enough for me.
Yeah, it's interesting they're releasing the game on PC but not Switch. And its interesting the PC port comes now, not when it originally released in Japan. I wonder how much of that has to do with their close relationship with Nintendo. Their previous independent release, Monkey Barrels, was also only on Switch and PC.
@@TripleEye_Josh I wouldn't rule out a Sony port, the Steam page does have dualshock & dualsense compatibility (via usb but still). Not a guarantee but y'know. Before anyone thinks otherwise, Bakeru (and Monkey Barrels) had no involvement from Nintendo at all. Good-Feel likely just kept Bakeru on the Switch as a preferential thing. Nintendo's consoles always been the family/kids target so they likely felt like Bakeru would do super well on it for that reason, same for Monkey Barrels (and that ended up being localized and ported to PC by Nicalis).
Really? I didn't really notice it running at 60, but at times it did feel like it was over 30. I'm not sure if they're doing some variable refresh rate. Still, considering the Switch's age, its impressive the game still runs as well as it does, honestly.

You should have at least 3 nickels lol. Ratchet and clank 2016 and rift apart both had that mechanic
Goemon was so good!

Great video! I tried the demo out, and it’s super good. Definitely gonna buy it
Spark 3 should be in the conversation.
I have been waiting for a long time to scratch that 3D platformer itch. And from a legend himself!
It seems for the western release they've changed some of the combat animations if you played the demo.

Wish this was getting a physical release.
It is getting a physical release. Next year.
What happened to left at the station, it was a beautiful channel
@2:40 the boy talking is actually naruto's voice actor.
I'm glad to see this video survived!
Man I loved Goemon so much. I hope this game is as good.

I totally agree but it's so fun to play and nice n original Mack's a great Chang
It looks very fun, hope it comes to Playstation at some point

Mystical Ninja Goemon is a great game.
Tanukis are also real animals. they are dogs that look and act like raccoons but are not raccoons

just emulate it if you want to fix performance; the switch is too slow to play it really. I think it also does 60 instead of 30 or something

I am fairly confident that the game is trying to target 60 fps but drops down to 30 most of the time.

@@TripleEye_Josh Yeah you can only really notice it being 60 during most cutscenes, when there's like 0 enemies on screen.
Its pronounced goy-mon
