@trelathika1 General Choi decided that basic technique needed to be changed and incorporated a little bouncy down and up movement . He called it SineWave after the shape of a mathmatical function denoting the ratio between the opposite and hypotenuse sides of a right angled triangle
Yea I like to be respectful and train properly and seriously with control, but at the same time i love to do a full contact tournament, it's all i can really do cos i fight in open tournaments, I'm only 28 but i agree the music today is crud, i grew up stuff like zeppelin, pink floyd, and everything else around that time, not much from any later the the 90's interest me.
You should try Rhee taekwondo, patterns are the same but no sinewave and most of the punches and kicks the were on a 45degree angle have been changed to straight, (not trying to convince you to change) Amazing pattern this one anyway.
Never heard of that one, probably co i live in Aus, was just looking on the website and it says somebody just graded to 5th Dan on his 70th birthday, impressive effort, watching the promo video now, looks a bit different to what i do but bit more hardcore the traditional ITF, are the tournaments full contact?
In theory ,no , but someone forgot to tell the black belts ! I am 49 now ,so I fight in the Veterans division ,which is quite gentlemenly. We talk about the old days ,when young people were more respectful and when we had Led Zeppelin ,instead of the Cheesy crud that kids like today.
Serious skill and strength there. I really wish General Choi had not ruined TaeKwonDo by introducing that awful "Sine Wave " movement to technique. He was going well for a while. Did someone put mushrooms in his tea?
General Choi improved Taekwon-Do by introducing sine-wave. If you do not understand the function of it then your movements will never be as powerful as they could be!
baggers8: The sine wave is generally ineffective. While there may be a small increase in power transferred in a technique, it would do more harm than good. Why do you think you never see it in a real fight or sparring. It increases the time to attack or defend and telegraphs the movement. Just as an inexperienced fighter will telegraph their punches by "winding up" before throwing, thus giving away the attack, the sine wave would do the same if one attempted to use it in a real situation. See "Law of Diminishing Returns".
Justa Bill don’t people generally bounce up n down during a street fights anyways? I never seen a street fight where people stay level with no bounce before tbh

baggers8 I don’t buy that. Karate practitioners and boxers don’t lack power, now do they? It looks bleeding awful too.
