there's also the 2015 masters, if you count the skull spiders as rahi. also some of the system sets had rahi and toa minifigures in the same set if that counts.
when it comes to connectors sticking out, and open ball joints, i particularly love that kind of thing because then it gives me an easy thing to build an upgraded version off of. like those open joints on the head, a little work and you've got yourself a moving mouth. :)
You forgot to mention the fact that his weapons are dual purpose. His swords can form a flying surfboard. Also the open gray pins in the upper leg/him area could not have been fixed easily as they need to be longer to pin in the rahkshi backs to the legs...
The Kikanolo was always my favorite part of the set, in my opinion. I used to try and elite my Kikanolo using Brutaka’s gold pieces and various other gold pieces throughout Bionicle from 2006 and earlier and named it Polykhan. I later replaced the gun shod gray pieces with silver ones. My favorite fan made set in all of Bionicle in my opinion.
Someone else probably already mentioned this, but Toa Mahri Jaller included his crab on which his blaster was mounted, meaning that it isn't the only Toa and Rahi set released.
It looks like you have mixed, in the tail, Rakshi's pieces with Kikanalo's ones. In fact you can see the different gray used by Lego before and after 2004. Am I wrong?
Toa Eljay ah, okay. I noticed it because when i rebuilt most of my sets i wanted to give them their own pieces. I don't like different colours, even if there aren't big differences between them.
Toa Eljay also, i suppose that if you check all Rahkshi's legs and Makuta's arms, you won't waste a lot of time :D But if you think the different grays aren't a problem, do what you wrote.
Yeah, between '03 and '04, There is a distinct change in LEGO's gray plastics, most new parts getting a very subtle and more vibrant color to the plastics. (labeled "dark bluish gray" or "light bluish grey" in the Bricklink catalog.)
fun fact: the tail joints you have for kikanalo are not all the originals, you used some rakshi leg joints in there as they had a faint discoloration to the kikanalo joints
To me, it's a con that the Kikanalo can't be put into a good-looking quadruped-pose. That's the way the go around in the movie, but the set stands on two legs. Don't like how its eyes droop under the jawline either. And I know it's been pointed out as a con, but those pins in the thighs look extra painful to me because I keep imagining them stabbing his crotch at every step.
One thing I always liked to do with the Metru builds was to take out the gears and replace the axles holding in the arms with a black "Pin with Stop Bush" piece. Helps the posability and fixes the color scheme issue you mentioned pretty well! Works especially well with Lhikan and Iruni Hagah
out of all of the early rahi I've seen the kikanalo is easily the most lifelike and fleshed out-looking. the 2001 rahi are cool too, but they basically just look like technic competition/cyberslam sets with claws and teeth added on.
Another pro I would have added is that Lhikan's fire swords can combine to form his "Hover Board" (unaware of the official name). Another con is that is I find it awkward to have the Kikanalo stand on all fours like how they are suposed to (i.e. in the movie).
It is kind of surprising just how solid Lhikan is as a set in spite of all the things that aren't unique to him: He's a Toa of fire wearing a great Hau and wielding metallic grey twin fireswords that can combine into a surfboard like Tahu and Tahu Nuva respectively. Even his golden color scheme is borrowed from the original "seventh Toa set", Takanuva. That his Hau has an unique mold certainly helps in giving him his own identity and, while the gold wasn't new to him, he was the first Bionicle set to combine gold and red until Jaller Inika came around. Plus he was a very important character story-wise as the mentor of the Toa Metru.
Another con I would say is the lackluster way in which his hoverboard/shield is assembled. The way his greastswords join together is really cool, but I personally found myself switching the black gear on his back with a silver pin-joiner-piece so it can be assembled without attaching them to his feet/hands. Also they could have included a way of storing his weapons on his back. The exposed ball joint on Kikanalo's tail always bothered me
Forgot the awesome lava board, the little flaps on the sword link to make either a huge sword or connect to his feet for a second function of a lava board.
Honestly, it kinda sucks that we didn't just get these in separate boxes, because I'm pretty sure it's safe to say that most people just bought this set for Lhikan, and considered the Kikanalo as a bonus thing
Can I ask if u put other masks (like onewa, phantoka lewa etc.) a mata head? Is the eyes on the correct position? Will it fit cause I ordered some masks and mata heads on bricklink and don't know if it will work thank you :)
A note about the kikanalo's pose-ability cons: The kikanalo is a herd rahi, not a toa; as such, it's design is for charging (hopping) and digging. So, technically, its lack of mobility could just be how it was suppose to be made.
I think it's supposed to be the Metru Nui version of the Kanohi Hau as Eljay described, from another region. It can be also for Turaga Lhikan as well. So you may be right. If you paint it red, it could be the Noble Kanohi Hau, if you ever wanna do a Turaga Tahu or something
if I remember correctly the staff pieces used as the head came with either the bionicle movie game for the ps2 and maybe the takanuva and makuta dual set because I got a bonus pieces in both
9:01 Lhikan was a Toa Mangai, not a Metru, though he uses the same build. Also, I would say another con would be how the Kikanalo and Lhikan have no relation in the story, and therefore shouldn't be packaged together. Maybe that's just a nitpick, though.
I made a Rahi that has an alternate form sembling this and the different forms just represent various Rahi, but it's actually a quadrupedal beast for Nuparu to ride.
I am actually lucky enough to have certain classics from this era, despite the fact that I was only four when they came out. You see, one year, probably when I was about 8 or 9, my parents got me a lot of mostly Bionicle Legos that happened to weigh somewhere between 6 and 16 pounds (I don't remember precisely, but I know it had a 6.....). Moving on, I actually have Toa Hagah Iruini, Lhikan, and Krekka. I also mysteriously have ONE FOOT from both the Kurahk and Pahrahk Rahkshi, but nothing else. I actually have Lhikan's Hau on a special MOC I wanted to make with a color scheme I personally haven't seen before, but I'm not saying because I will likely upload that MOC's showcase on my channel soon, along with Silent Fire, Wolvix, and (maybe) Ekora and Titan. I may also upload a very experimental MOC that is actually the Ultrabuild of Scorm, although it is made of Bionicle parts, has roughly 300-400 parts, and at the shoulders measures roughly a foot tall (And I don't even like Chima). (I got really off topic there, and that was a bit too much self-advertising. I should watch myself more in the future.) Anyway, a great review as always, and I believe that you are correct about the Chroniclers Staff. I can't wait until you get to Gadunka, the eater of waaaay to many cheezburgerz.
I was actually 3 when I got my first Bionicle, Pohatu nNva. My grandpa built it for me, he and I had a collection of the yellow technic construction vehicles or "diggers" as I 3 year old me liked to call them. I also had the original Makuta and all the rakshii, in 04 got a few toa metro, 4 vahki, and in 05 a visorak and keetongu, 2006 though was when I really got into Bionicle and knew what I was doing. Thus began the religion for me of Bionicle collection and mocing.
CriticalFilms He is mentioning that Jaller and Mr Crab is a Toa-Rahi combo, just like Lhikan and Kikanalo. Eljay (falsely) believed that Lhikan and Kikanalo were the only Toa-Rahi combo ever released by LEGO.
When I first heard Lhikan's name, I thought maybe he was the Takanuva of the Toa Metru. Though Lhikan actually turned out to not be the seventh Toa Metru, he infact was more precise the first.
I still think the kikanalo is the most solidly designed titan up to this point. He doesn’t have any awful gaps and his joints move every way they’re supposed to for the animal he is
ThreeDaysOfDan Yeah, probably a wise choice. Tbh I am not a fan of this whole system Lego has in place (just being a year and all), but they seem to make a lot of money this way.
I always pictured the Noble Hau as looking like this mask. I believe the Chronicler's Staff was packaged with BIONICLE: The Game. I know that the tool's first appearance anywhere was in-game, and I think there was some related promotion. Those swords sucked, but they looked cool when combined into a shield or the hoverboard, which I'm surprised you didn't show off.
As many people have correctly noted, I completely forgot about it. I dunno why, I intended to show it off. However, I shall soon make up for that mistake... You guys'll see what I mean. (Also yay, I can finally reply directly to you!)
Sorry about the lack of ability to reply to me. I had several people mention to me that they had issues with responding to my comments, so I looked into it and I had accidentally changed a setting restricting it.
U can totally fix the sword problem with the Black Technic Pole Reverser Handle Pieces for a underhanded grip so you don’t have to pose the hands so weird
You didn't have him holding the swords the correct way for wielding them. You're supposed to have his hands angled outward, and plug the swords' axles into the outer socket such that the swords are pointing the same direction as his feet. You also failed to show the swords' ability to be held combined as a shield, or as The Blue Pin Curse (which by the way most people outside of you and your fellow TTV Upper Circle manage to tune out, although I'll admit it's a bit of a bother on the Kikanalo and I think the tan axle-pins that didn't have friction ridges would have worked just fine) and the gray axle bearings in the shoulders do have an excuse, and that was that there was no helping it. Lego produces things like axles and pins in massive bulk batches. At the time, they were (and even today they mostly still are) strictly color-speciated to help prevent mix-ups. They were being so anal about it that they'd even divided the axles by color based on whether they were odd-length or even-length.
you forgot to mention the fact that his swords lock together into a lava board, as shown in the movie (if this is not possible in the set i am sorry, i haven't actually had one in my own hands)
Sadly, the only way to get the Chief Kikanalo from the movie is to get a gold Lewa Nuva sword from another set and replace the horn in this set....Not sure why you'd want that now, the movie hasn't really aged well, but then again, neither have the sets themselves, and I've said for years that "2009 wasn't that bad." ...Long story short, don't listen to me. Do whatever you want.
Did you forget that Lhikan's blades can combine?
Yes he did
I forgot to
@@yugo45-b8c on the contrary
That is the excuse for my $30 price tag! **Engages in battle**
Kikanalo:.........*snorts*
you forgot about the fact that lhikan's blades can combine to make a shield/lava board, somewhat like Tahu Nuva's.
TheZevProductions, I agree with you
jaller marhi was released with a rahi as well, the crab (forgot its name) was a rahi. but overall great review
Yes but they were matoran Rahi
***** i am talking of the toa marhi, jaller marhi was released with a tiny crab that had the luncher mounted on his back
True forgot that one
there's also the 2015 masters, if you count the skull spiders as rahi.
also some of the system sets had rahi and toa minifigures in the same set if that counts.
Thought the same thing
Hold on, I think you forgot to mention the dual feature of his weapons turning into a sheild. I'm not sure so correct me if im wrong.
nope you not it is a function to become a shield and lava board
Ya, I think he did, and he forgot about how it can also turn into a lava board.
Thank you for correcting me. :)
Someone probably already posted a comment like this but:
"That is the excuse for my $30 price tag!"
*Instant like*
Kikanalo: ........*snorts*
Yup
when it comes to connectors sticking out, and open ball joints, i particularly love that kind of thing because then it gives me an easy thing to build an upgraded version off of. like those open joints on the head, a little work and you've got yourself a moving mouth. :)

Also the open gray pins in the upper leg/him area could not have been fixed easily as they need to be longer to pin in the rahkshi backs to the legs...
It's not combining, It's called riding into battle
ShadowBlade Zorru it's not flying, its falling with style.
I made a quadrupedal beast Rahi recently and I don't know which species it if.
Jaller mahri had a rahi too! Don't forget about him!
Yeah, AND you COULD say Takua and Pewku are a Toa and Rahi set as SPOILER Takua becomes a Toa later.
he had a crab
Someone else probably already mentioned this, but Toa Mahri Jaller included his crab on which his blaster was mounted, meaning that it isn't the only Toa and Rahi set released.
The one set I always wanted but never got. I remember wishing they would have offered Lhikan separately, done up like the Toa Metru sets.
It looks like you have mixed, in the tail, Rakshi's pieces with Kikanalo's ones. In fact you can see the different gray used by Lego before and after 2004. Am I wrong?
Very good eye, I must say. It appears that is the case. A slight detail, so not one I plan on correcting, but you're spot on.
Toa Eljay ah, okay. I noticed it because when i rebuilt most of my sets i wanted to give them their own pieces. I don't like different colours, even if there aren't big differences between them.
Toa Eljay also, i suppose that if you check all Rahkshi's legs and Makuta's arms, you won't waste a lot of time :D
But if you think the different grays aren't a problem, do what you wrote.
I was building Kikanalo just now and I noticed it as well.
Yeah, between '03 and '04, There is a distinct change in LEGO's gray plastics, most new parts getting a very subtle and more vibrant color to the plastics. (labeled "dark bluish gray" or "light bluish grey" in the Bricklink catalog.)

Don't like how its eyes droop under the jawline either. And I know it's been pointed out as a con, but those pins in the thighs look extra painful to me because I keep imagining them stabbing his crotch at every step.
I wished that someday the rest of the Toa Mangai would be revealed. So far, we have Lhikan, Nidhiki, Tuyet, and Naho. The rest must soon be revealed!!

A "friend" of mine stole the Lhikan figure when i was young and i only realized way later...
Toa Lhinkan and Kikanalo wasn't the only Toa plus rahi set ever released. There is also Toa Jaller and his hahnah crab in the 2007 Toa Mahri.
Another pro I would have added is that Lhikan's fire swords can combine to form his "Hover Board" (unaware of the official name). Another con is that is I find it awkward to have the Kikanalo stand on all fours like how they are suposed to (i.e. in the movie).
I like everything about this set
It looks like Lhikan's swords can combine into a surfboard. Can they in fact do that?
yes
The Chronicler yeah, I find it odd that they didn't mention that...
Blazing Meteor9 On the back of the box it actually says how you can combine the swords to make a surfboard.
Coolguy621 I probably should have said he, in reference to Eljay
Ok
Another secondary function of Lhikan is his swords can fit together to make a lava/flying board (similar to Tahu).
It is kind of surprising just how solid Lhikan is as a set in spite of all the things that aren't unique to him: He's a Toa of fire wearing a great Hau and wielding metallic grey twin fireswords that can combine into a surfboard like Tahu and Tahu Nuva respectively. The exposed ball joint on Kikanalo's tail always bothered me
you forgot that the two swords can combine into a shield/lava board, further great review
"Blue ringed octopus in land form." XD
Bringing back memories!!!
you didnt mention lhikans swords can combine to make him lava board
Nidhiki: “Wait a second, what is that!?!?”
Lhikan: “That is the excuse for my $30 price tag!!!” lol 😂
That gets me every time 😂
Wish i got this set!
Forgot the awesome lava board, the little flaps on the sword link to make either a huge sword or connect to his feet for a second function of a lava board.
What about the lava surfboard?
"that is the excuse for my 30 dollar price tag" lol
I know Lhikan is built in the metru style system, but he is a toa mangai
Didn't the Toa Mangai consist of 11 toa, including Tuyet and Nidiki?
Honestly, it kinda sucks that we didn't just get these in separate boxes, because I'm pretty sure it's safe to say that most people just bought this set for Lhikan, and considered the Kikanalo as a bonus thing
I remember getting this set for my birthday after my first reconstruction surgery as a kid good times good times
Can I ask if u put other masks (like onewa, phantoka lewa etc.) a mata head? Is the eyes on the correct position? Will it fit cause I ordered some masks and mata heads on bricklink and don't know if it will work thank you :)
I thought that the head sword peice was on a rahkshi staff
Isn't it Lewa Nuva's sword?
A note about the kikanalo's pose-ability cons: The kikanalo is a herd rahi, not a toa; as such, it's design is for charging (hopping) and digging. So, technically, its lack of mobility could just be how it was suppose to be made.
1% of comments: other things about the video
99% of comments: you forgot that his swords can combine
I wanted this set 10 years ago...
i have the mask but not the entire set in one piece. :(
The surfboard weapon looks really cool.
isn't that a noble tahu mask (sry can't spell it correctly)
I think it's supposed to be the Metru Nui version of the Kanohi Hau as Eljay described, from another region. It can be also for Turaga Lhikan as well. So you may be right. If you paint it red, it could be the Noble Kanohi Hau, if you ever wanna do a Turaga Tahu or something
I remember buying this with the $30 that I found in my neighbor’s front yard, and it’s is my favorite bionicle ever made 😂 such an awesome design lol
I think that some of the glatorian vehicles are glatorian/rahi sets
if I remember correctly the staff pieces used as the head came with either the bionicle movie game for the ps2 and maybe the takanuva and makuta dual set because I got a bonus pieces in both
9:01 Lhikan was a Toa Mangai, not a Metru, though he uses the same build.
Also, I would say another con would be how the Kikanalo and Lhikan have no relation in the story, and therefore shouldn't be packaged together. Maybe that's just a nitpick, though.
my first titan set
Lhikan wore the Hau, Tahu wore the Hau too. Lhikan is the father of Tahu guaranteed.
My brother got this for his birthday when we were kids, I was so jealous
I made a Rahi that has an alternate form sembling this and the different forms just represent various Rahi, but it's actually a quadrupedal beast for Nuparu to ride.

the price tag joke actually made me laugh wow youre moving up in the world
The jokes are getting better.
you did forget the lava board
It's funny that you can store Lhikan's weapons on Nidhiki but not on Lhikan.
what do you mean?
Jaller mahri and the hannah crab.
The two actually appeared in the story (books) together at one point, so there is no comparison between this set and Mahri Jaller.
CriticalFilms He is mentioning that Jaller and Mr Crab is a Toa-Rahi combo, just like Lhikan and Kikanalo. Eljay (falsely) believed that Lhikan and Kikanalo were the only Toa-Rahi combo ever released by LEGO.
Oh, right. Sorry, sometimes I am so dumb.
Captain Hanes ......but its a crab :o
You forgot to mention that likahuns 2 swords can combine into a sheild.
For a second I could have sworn you said "Chickenalo".
Here’s a metru con there torsos having a large section on some that’s only one beam thick.
When I first heard Lhikan's name, I thought maybe he was the Takanuva of the Toa Metru. Though Lhikan actually turned out to not be the seventh Toa Metru, he infact was more precise the first.
Dont forget he was toa along with nidhiki
Toa Mangia*
Ya
I still think the kikanalo is the most solidly designed titan up to this point. He doesn’t have any awful gaps and his joints move every way they’re supposed to for the animal he is
Still kicking myself for not buying that one back in the day. Effing expensive now. :D
Im buying all the new sets.. IDGAF what people say but the new lego sets skyrocket in price within a few months of being discontinued
ThreeDaysOfDan
Yeah, probably a wise choice. Tbh I am not a fan of this whole system Lego has in place (just being a year and all), but they seem to make a lot of money this way.
LhiKHAAAAAAAAAANNNNN
I love this set!!!!!
I am thankful I have this set
Ware did the toa nuva get there chest plates. The Turaga say they skinned them off kikanalos
awesome review xD
You did not show the 2 great fire swords combine
The Kikanalo's head part is originally from the Rahkshi, as one of their weapons.
This is a really late response but that is incorrect. None of rhe rakshi have that piece.
Eljay, what's your favorite set ever?
Basically the entire comment thread
1. The fucking lava board/shield
2. Jaller's crab
One of my favorite sets, if a bit awkward at some points. I should probably rebuild it.
wow. Toa LhiCON has a lot of CONS
muahahaha
+Ben's World makutahahahahhaahaha
Mackuahahahahahahahahahahahaha
TAKUAhahahahahahahahaha
I had several people mention to me that they had issues with responding to my comments, so I looked into it and I had accidentally changed a setting restricting it.
you forgot to mention that the 2 fire swords can be connected to make a surfboard or shield
'nother KHAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think the toa terrain crawler counts as a toa&rahi set
Wait. How can toa of fire with hau fly?
Although there were a few other toa-Rahi sets, this is the only one with a large rahi.
U can totally fix the sword problem with the Black Technic Pole Reverser Handle Pieces for a underhanded grip so you don’t have to pose the hands so weird
The Kikanalo head part was included in PC bionicle game
You forgot that the two swords could come together for a board
Kopaka and Melum is a Toa with "Rahi"
Whoops
Ellis Weiner I think you mean the excuse for his $30 price tag.
lekan could have encounterd a kickinalo in the kanohe drogon atack
You forgot the use of the swords as a shield/ hover board
Gunmetal and Takanuva and brass love these colors
Idk if I only noticed, but Lhikans chest piece thing is a different gold than everything else. if so then I would consider it a con
I want this set
You didn't have him holding the swords the correct way for wielding them. You're supposed to have his hands angled outward, and plug the swords' axles into the outer socket such that the swords are pointing the same direction as his feet.
You also failed to show the swords' ability to be held combined as a shield, or as
The Blue Pin Curse (which by the way most people outside of you and your fellow TTV Upper Circle manage to tune out, although I'll admit it's a bit of a bother on the Kikanalo and I think the tan axle-pins that didn't have friction ridges would have worked just fine) and the gray axle bearings in the shoulders do have an excuse, and that was that there was no helping it. Lego produces things like axles and pins in massive bulk batches. At the time, they were (and even today they mostly still are) strictly color-speciated to help prevent mix-ups. you forgot to mention the fact that his swords lock together into a lava board, as shown in the movie (if this is not possible in the set i am sorry, i haven't actually had one in my own hands)
It is possible.
10/10 set!!!!
2:10 yeah caats 😃
what about the fact that lhikan's swords can tern into a shiald?
Sadly, the only way to get the Chief Kikanalo from the movie is to get a gold Lewa Nuva sword from another set and replace the horn in this set....Not sure why you'd want that now, the movie hasn't really aged well, but then again, neither have the sets themselves, and I've said for years that "2009 wasn't that bad." ...Long story short, don't listen to me. Do whatever you want.
I got this one from a friend, and the kikanalo is pretty kool
