BRENT VENABLES AND THE FORMER OFFENSIVE COORDINATOR HAD A LOT TO DO WITH CLEMSON'S SUCCESS 💯! DABO SWINNEY HAS YET TO PROVE THAT HE IS CAPABLE OF WINNING AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL WITHOUT HIS FORMER STAFF.

Yes, as does the coordinators of any successful head coach. It’s his job to hire the personnel who gives his team the best chances to win and that’s what he did

Clemsons defensive has barely slipped at all. Still Elite. The offense definitely has dropped seriously. But your wrong about the offensive coordinator Tony Elliot. His last year before leaving Clemson was awful. The slip began with him and now they are digging out of the hole.

i agree that with dabo's sentiments, but at the same time the portal and nil are things that are not going away. the players aren't the only one's making money off nil. universities are getting more money from sponsors and ad revenue because they paid a top talent to play for them, and that's where it lies when i saw it's never going anywhere. it's a lot easier for universities to say no more when it's solely the players getting profits, but when they're making more money because of it too it's not going to disappear.
i agree that dabo is an absolutely amazing coach, but i also don't think that it's crazy to say that if he's going to die on his personal moral hill then it will get him fired. it sucks that that's what the landscape currently is, but as long as the universities are profiting off it as well his concerns might as well be words yelled into a mason jar that gets launched into orbit.

Recruiting is always the #1 priority. Until Dabo can get those elite talents on the offensive side of the ball like they did years ago then it’ll be tough for them to get back to that level. Recruitment and development on defense has never been a problem.

I'm an Alabama fan. We have disdain for Dabo for a myriad of reasons. Primarily, we feel he let his ego get too big, and he's forgotten where he came from. Regardless, what's so exhausting about Dabo's stance on the transfer portal is the way he treats it like this is the Nazis getting the nuclear bomb first, or malevolent AI becoming sentient and wiping us all out if we're not careful- like the transfer portal is some extinction level threat he alone is virtuously fighting against for the greater good of society.
Like, c'mon man.... this is still just college sports we're talking about here. It's not that big of a deal. (Frankly, I question if he actually believes all the stuff he says about the portal or if he's just trying to show the CFB world he's a martyr willing to die on this particular crucifix)
Obviously, the portal is having a deleterious effect on the sport in most everyone's opinions. However, it's not this overwhelming danger he's making it out to be. I suppose I look at it a little bit differently...
*If he's so sure of the culture he's built at Clemson, why is he so convinced that transfers would be able to disrupt it?*

OK. Dabo won the last few championship because they happened to get back to back once in a life time QB's. I went on a Clemson station before they lost to LSU in the championship game in 2020 and said they were going to be blown out. I also told them their season of winning was over. Back to mediocre. They didn't believe me. Well, the reality is, they have. Dabo is a decent coach, but QB development and development of players overall is lacking. Trevor Lawrence even stated he wasn't developed at his position like he should have been to prepare for the NFL. FACTS!!! This is a key issue in the Clemon program. Culture is one thing, but development of players is another. Clemson is a good program, not Elite, but good. The championship days are over. The media, fans and the CFB world are finally coming to a conclusion I saw and stated over 4 years ago.

While I believe that QB play is obviously one of the most important factors in any program, and I despise Dabo’s decision to not use the portal to fill holes, I simply don’t think the evidence proves that Clemson’s success over the last decade or so is a fluke or due to lucky QB recruitments. They made it back to the playoff with Kelly Bryant, who was by no means no legend. I’m still upset they booted DJU before giving him a chance with a different OC, because it’s become insanely clear that DJU wasn’t the reason for the offensive decline, as the offense somehow got even worse with Cade Klubnik and a new OC. This season will tell a lot of the story. The way to win championships in 2025, while similar, isn’t the same as it was in 2015. It just simply isn’t, the game has changed whether people like it or not, and if you don’t adapt you either die out, or you at least fall below what you are absolutely capable of.
Even last season which is what I would consider their “worst season” in a decade, they were a handful of absolutely stupid, ill timed turnovers from going back to the ACC championship and possibly the playoff. That is absolutely an excuse, but it’s a legitimate and totally reasonable take of what happened. If Clemson had a slightly to moderately good offense last year instead of the shit show they had, I don’t think anyone is having this discussion about Clemson’s “downfall”. They had something like ten seasons of 10 plus wins until last year. Sustaining that kind of long term success just isn’t something that happens as a fluke, even if they had two generational QBs. If they can fix the QB play and OL, Clemson is ABSOLUTELY still a regular playoff contender, especially in the new format. Washington or TCU’s one season of domination where all the cards fell perfectly is what I consider a “fluke” to be: not ten years of sustained success, even if it has been followed by a slight decrease in success by the Clemson dynasty standard. If Dabo makes changes and adapts, which he has done to SOME degree (although not what I personally think is enough) I think they will continue the string of success and be back in the discussion.
