I love how this game has z levels. I think its going mor 'dwarf fortress' than rimworld. But a realistic take on it. Which I absolutely love. this game is brilliant.
I just can't get past how ugly the game looks. Especially the characters. And I don't have that problem with Dwarf Fortress. This an Oxygen not included are the two games right up my alley but so ugly in their art style, I can't go for it.
@@Derzull2468 What are you on? Good god man. What do you expect out of indies, super realistic COD graphics? These are unique artstyles for a reason. The focus on gameplay above all else. And I quite love the artstyle.
@@unironicallydel7527 I don't play AAA games for the most part. Indy games are way better and, as I said, DF graphics don't bother me. It's not a graphics issue, more an art style that is off putting, like for Oxygen not Included. The characters look sick with no eyes or facial features, the color palette is also sickish to me. I don't have the words to express it properly, I just don't like looking at it at all. It's all subjective, ofc.
I usually throw down a redcurrant shrug farming over existing red currants so my people will automatically harvest them in the first year or two. I set it to do not sow though, that way when it runs out I can just move to a new group until the map clears of them, then I start growing my own.
I like this game, I just wished they'd add walls to put in between the grid, sims styles, as well. The wall options look good as defensive walls and other walls but for making huts and interiors it's a bit impractical.
Actually, the metric system is the normal one. You Muricans are far beyond the times. A ton is 1000 Kilograms. A Kilogram is 1000 Grams. A Gram is 1000 Milligrams. Easy, see? Also, there's a precision crafted and microscopic measured block of metal in a vault somewhere whose mass the Kilogram is measured against so we're not just making up an arbitrary number either. :D

Chasing that pig should have taught you a really valuable lesson - I wonder if you did actually learn it. Never chase - always get ahead of. Move your hunters/fighters ahead of thier quarry because your people ALWAYS stop, pause, ... and only then take an action. By which time if you're chasing it's already too late for your people to hit. So - move your people ahead of their quarry. This becomes important when you're after fleeing defeated enemies so you can get their loot. You need their loot. This is how you get it.
To me, i feel the same way with Obra Dinn as I felt about Outer Wilds. Its a game i am happy i played for myself, but still really like to see other people get to experience it for their first time.
It's been a good 3 decades since complex, stat-based computer games have been a thing, and it looks like nobody has been able to figure out yet how to make a game where you DO NOT get stats dumped on you off the bat, you don't have the first idea yet what to do with. This, regardless if it's 1993 or 2023, results in your first gameplay always being a throwaway where you experiment with what each of the stats do, instead of actually playing the game as intended, to not have your very first exposure to the game be about experimentation and failure, but discovery and steady progression.
There are definitely games out there that do this well.. Manor Lords, and Foundation are two, that I would say, discovery, and learning, without your first game just being a throw away is a thing. Neither of those games, I felt overwhelmed, or confused, and as things opened up, I could make mistakes, and correct it, without it destroying my run. The thing with these two games, is the AI are capable of somewhat "correcting" your mistake on their own. Unless you are completely ignoring all the red flags, and issues, you will have ample time to correct, and adjust.
@@Cramblit You can mess up Manor Lords by not sizing your market properly, not sizing your burgage plots properly, not sizing your fields properly, not managing your livestock properly, all in all, there are twenty different ways how your first town could be a failure, before you even have a chance to settle other regions to learn from those mistakes.
@@dominic.h.3363 That's absolutely not true at all. You can "mess up" but not to the point that the first run has to be a "I'm going to lose this run, but its just to learn" situation that the original post was suggesting. The game tells you when you need more market space. Burgage plot sizes are optional, you can have tiny ones and be fine, if you make up for it in other areas like crop field sizes. Managing livestock? That's done automatically by the AI, no player intervention required. The AI literally does most of it on its own. It's actually substantially difficult to fail at Manor Lords because you have more than enough ample time to learn from a mistake, and correct it. Which is what the original post was saying. A lot of older games like that, the moment you mess up, its a cascading downhill effect because of something you did 6 hours ago that is now a root in the balance of everything. That's not how it is with manor Lords, Foundation and a few other gems out there. Unless you're saying the game should 100% play itself, and you're just there for the ride. In which case, sir, I'd say you're an idiot and too stupid for anything past tic tac toe. WHen I played Manor Lords, I literally placed stuff down anywhere I wanted, with whatever size of anything I wanted, placed some AI on the buildings, and it just did everything else by itself, and I had an abundance of everything. It's an insanely easy game, so long asyou have more than 2 brain cells to rub together, to figure out the most brain dead obvious things like "oh look, my firewood only has 4 months ocmpared to the foods 24 months. Maybe I should build another firewood or make sure there are enough people on it"... If you can't do that in the 5 hours time it gives you to correct that issue, you're an idiot, and that's all that manor lords requires.. for you to pay attention to obvious warnings and it gives you literally hours to do it.
