I'm starting out next year. Seeing your clear path and listening to your informative videos has claimed my nerves a bit. You have given my so many more ideas for a possibility of income. So... Thank you sir
I would like to say thank you. I am a full time firefighter now but I'm starting my lawn service, CrowCreek Lawn Service, this year. Your videos are very helpful. I live in a small town in Arkansas. So, thank you again!
I was blown away when I saw a picture of you and LCN on his channel. My 2 favorite lawn Care channels meeting. Like world's colliding. That was awesome!
Glad you had a backup mower and it didn't slow you down! Really great video, Brian! Loved the GIE recap at the end, happy to hear it was such a fulfilling year. We really appreciated you coming by and saying hey! Keep up the great work! See you at the Lawn Care Life Conference!
Was great meeting you and the boss at gie. You put a lot of effort and time into RUclips don’t feel ashamed or feel that you shouldn’t make money for it. If that money is what fixes your mower and gets you back to work then that’s all that matters. You give so much first hand experience and knowledge to the lawn care community.
Thanks man. We give a ton of our time and energy you bet. It’s all extra, but we’ll see how the price tag goes! Not worried either way, it’s been a blessed season
I’ve never had good luck with Kohler motors. At that many hours machines start to give you lots of problems. I think best way is to rotate out most of my equipment every 2 years. Being an owner operator and not having multiples of equipment down time is detrimental. Most dealers by me don’t have loaner mowers so having a lower hour machine well maintained saves me money in the long run.
You're 100% right about Gravely being a tank. They are amazing, that's all we use here in Central Florida. We got a 460 last year and we have put 1,200 hours on it and it's just getting broken in. They also have amazing customer service, no excuses they honor all their warranty work. We love them here in Central Florida.
Central Florida Lawncare I love the Gravely’s, but here in Virginia on the steep hills and banks, the Exmark is far superior. The Gravely doesn’t stick like the Exmark. But on flatter terrain, the Gravely is more comfortable and they sure do cut sweet.
I demoed a scag vride 2 yesterday and today. I was overwhelmed at first but, what a fun machine and it’s a tank on the hills! And the new leaf bagger attachment for the back is a sweet accessory especially for you, 2 in one machine!
Great video brother keep up the awesome work get that truck all detailed up before winter and a good wax job to help the paint stay good time for a break for you
Ok, as far as stripes go I started off this season using my 48" lazer HP with no stripping kit... I bought the kit and man it made a big difference every customer complimented on how good it looks. September I stepped up my game bought a new lazer S back to no stripping kit. I have to say it does better than my hp without the kit but its still not as good as having that roller. Come spring I'm planning to buy the stripping kit.
@@ousamaabdu794 for my old mower I bought the OEM kit because my mower didn't have rear scalping wheels so I had to drill and mount a bracket that came with the kit. For my new mower, I'm thinking about trying out harrisonspecialties.com roller. It's $200 cheaper than the OEM.
we run all scags at work and in 2-3 years we can put on 1400 hours with very few break downs. its usually bolts falling out of seat or something stupid happening on them
Great videos Brian! We've used several Gravely zero turns up here in Canada for over a decade. I agree they are a tank. I agree their cut quality is a B. If this is an issue for the client we use a Walker. Our current Gravely Pro Turn 460 has the Kawasaki FX921V 31HP and it is plagued by eating plugs every 20hrs or so... dealer can't explain what's going on. Tried hotter plug/colder plug, always run premium etc... something about maybe the altitude calibration on the carb as it over fuels... The older Kawasaki engines on the Gravely's are pretty much indestructible.

Hmmmm, good ole Kohler. 1325 hrs maybe not too bad, but I gave up on Kohler years ago. Last one was a 725k and a 225, both had Kohler Command Pro. About 2000 hours and the engines were wore out. Rest of the mowers were just fine. Simply repower and keep mowing!!!
My 62 inch sit down toro band snapped and the 48 bobcat stand up quickcat switch went out. So had to mow 15 with 48 walkbehinds. And I wanted to sell them. Good back ups Also who cares if its RUclips money. I imagine it being hard recording! Do your thing man! We will keep watching
Thinking about a gravely as my next mower. I have an Ariens right now and it’s treating me good no problems so far. Stick with gravely/ariens or I was thinking about a scag or exmark. Any help appreciated
I went to my local gravely dealer today to look at some mowers for next year. I was looking at a 36in stander but checked out that air ride seat and it's amazing. Go with what dealer is going to be best for you. My ariens has been great too.
Hey Brian, just curious why do you only use zero turns for leaf clean ups? I use my wright standers for my clean ups and they work great. The baggers are quite small but it’s easy to make an exstention for them by zip tying an outdoor area rug into a bag shape. They also sell a bag called a monster leaf bag and it works great for stand on units but it is not as durable as a homemade one. I have also seen them mounted on Zero turns to give the bagger more capacity
Have you ever tried using a mulch kit? I use a Toro Grandstand with a mulch kit and add an extra blade to each spindle. Never have to bag any of my fall cleanups.
i am looking at a gravely proturn z, an exmark radius e, and a toro z master 2000 series. trying to spend under $7000. what would you recommend? i feel the toro turbo force deck and exmark ultra cut deck are superior then the gravely, but i think the gavely is built better. What would you suggest? i have dealers for all 3 locally, and have no reason to go to one or the other
Brian you make the comment about RUclips money?!?!? Who cares if it was RUclips money cause that's work all in it's self! Great work you have to laugh on the payoff and you feel like your still not done. Two weeks after receiving my truck title it threw a 2500 dollar bill at me in parts. I swore that FORD pushed the kill switch! But that's my next truck anyways.
I think that’s a viable degree, education is life. Just make sure it’s profitable. Maybe even intern or work for someone who knows what they’re doing. Better then a business degree. That’ll get you stuck at 40k a year. Eventually owning your own business is the way to go bud. Best of luck
Brian's Lawn Maintenance Thanks Brian! I failed to add that I currently own a company with a friend. Im 18 and we have 45 accounts. Next year we have verbal agreements on 5-8 more. Aiming for 75!
I know Brian already responded but I thought I'd chime in. Hort degrees and/or certificates are what will set you apart from the other guys. It gives you a leg up and makes you seem more knowledgable and professional to customers. And of course justifies higher pricing and increased profits, which in turn helps you grow.
What's up Brian. Hey did you use yardbook for your snow removal route last year? I've got everything set up for reoccurring with my lawns not sure how to do it with my snow clients
I had the pro turn 260 and I tried everything possible to get a better cut in dry weather I thought it cut great but it's been kind of a wet summer here in Tennessee and the gravely clumped up grass like crazy so I got rid of it and got a scag cheetah and that thing cuts amazing. It stripes better and cleaner I don't know a lot about all the different mowers but I'm impressed with the scag
First stripe try not to have any objects in the way either that get your first straight stripe off target. 👌 I always start with the longest stripe too then work my way out so I know all my other stripes are straight
Hey Brian, did you happen to see the limited edition Ferris IS3200 Midnight edition at GIE? It was killer looking, and had a black powder coated deck, chrome mag wheels and powder coated red frame and coil over suspension. Black seat and ROPs. Limited to 750 units for 2019. 37hp Vanguard with 500 hour Oilguard system and 5400 wheel pumps. A tank!!
Brian, don't appologize for RUclips $$$$. I couldn't even imagine how much extra time it takes to record footage, go home and edit it, and travel when it's required. And then on top of that to keep your primary business going at the same time. As always great video, God bless and greetings from Jersey!!! Oh, and PLEASE get the Exmark Staris stand on!!!(just my opinion).

Then order a new engine and put it in. 5500 all said and done run for years that way. Half price of a new one same new engine. The problem with the gravely is the weight of the mower. Easier to make indentions in soft yards
Scag will be having a bagging system for their V-Ride II for 2019 via their new short video. You may not need a zero-turn for bagging next Fall, but it will be a single bagging system, so that wouldn't take too long to fill, but I believe that they are the first to have a stander with an attached bagging system rather than a protruding basket catcher attached to the side discharge. I would like to here your thoughts and maybe you can get your audience a chance to see it sooner by inquiring?---I myself will likely always have a zero-turn as my primary mower, but it looks like a good secondary option.
Hate to hear about the Lazer Z. I’ve got an X-Series with the Kawasaki FX801V with over 3800 hours. It just developed a small hairline crack on one of the heads where the valve cover mounts to it. I’ve run a few of the S-Series with the Kohler EFI and they seem to be more problematic than my Kawasaki has ever been.
I got the same mower same engine 1200 hrs leaking oil just like that. Mine I think come from where dealer replaced muffler and screwed up threads on valve cover
When I stripe I don’t go with more than an inch or two deck overlap. IMO the closer you get to mowhawking without actually mowhawking is where it looks the best.
Hey Brian why don’t you try spartan mower post to be extremely comfortable I’m sure the cut isbetter or the same as your ex mark I’ve had X mart in the past don’t like those mowers at all sometimes you have to try new things and I would go with the Briggs EFI
Borrowed a mower from my friend Mike or just skipped my lawns this week. They’re slowing down. My dealer does offer a zero down time guarantee program for $400, which is great for a solo owner operator but I opted out this year.
Hay Brian that engine is going to leak oil that's wat Kohler engines do when they reach around 1300 or 1400 hundred hours I have that at same problem not one time but twice go with a Kawasaki next time you will get way more hours out of the units
Hay Brian, What happened to Fullerton Party Of Two RUclips Channel ? Me and some other subscribers have noticed you guys haven't done a new video for a while. Fullerton Party Of two always has good content and showed the behind the scenes of running both of your businesses. Don't worry though you channel here is just and good and I am a loyal viewer, just curious.
Be honest which mower do you prefer best lazer z. Or tiger cat 2 trying to decide on which one I'm an exmark fan but scag tiger cat 2 seems well built thanks..
Brian thanks for the video. My customers love my stripping I have Gravley zhd 52. I am still learning the 3pt turn. Still leaving turn Mark's. Be safe and thank you.
Good video my man. Btw, if you don't mind me asking was the Gravely a freebie in exchange for the exposure they get from being featured on your channel?
Ousama Abdu thanks pal. Yeah we are Gravely Ambassadors so we are showing their equipment and demoing / testing new equipment. Nothings free I’ll tell you that tho. It’s an animal to keep creating videos for RUclips lol, but yeah essentially you guessed it.
mlhm5 correct. All about tax planning, if you need the write off you can take the whole piece. You cannot use it to get a loss but that for another topic 😬
Yours has the Kohler 999 right?? My buddy had a Z with the RED and at 1400 hours the cheap plastic timing gear grenaded and cost him the engine. Ironically it started with a massive oil pan leak. He went back to the S series and said never again with the RED (even my dealer said the RED is bad bad bad). They’d rather sell carb motors all day long. Too many issues with the electronics. But honestly Exmark build a great product but the Staris (albeit ugly) looks like a great option. What’s your take on that thing by the way or is Exmark going to let you demo one and you post a review on it? Can I get a strawberry glaze too!! 👍
Id keep that lazer for backup and clean ups man. As for a new stander I don't know anything about them. I do like what mr. plemmons runs. that ferris is bad and im a toro/ exmark guy. Im keeping a toro zmaster with 2k hours on it just for back up and my main mower next year will be a 52 Exmark TT.
Great video, really appreciate your honesty in your videos. Are you aware you can get after market HUGE debris collecting systems for your standers? I think standers are easier to operate, get off and on, better field of view and TAKE UP LESS SPACE ON THE TRAILER.
@@BriansLawnMaintenance Brian, what makes your RUclips channel great is that you reply to messages, some other landscape channels don't and respond accordingly.
Really, whiners and trolls on RUclips. Gee whiz, they can start their own channel. Don't sweat it and most definitely keep up the good content. Brian, what would you recommend as a good quality edger that uses a heavy line and can support a speed head, preferably in 2-cycle. It will just be for my personnel use. We have a large corner lot that is 2/10 acre. My wife and I tag team the equipment because we are up in our years and can't do it individually.

Fullerton Party Of two always has good content and showed the behind the scenes of running both of your businesses. Don't worry though you channel here is just and good and I am a loyal viewer, just curious.
We’ll be bringing it back soon! We’ve just been insanely busy with this channel and growing our business!
Be honest which mower do you prefer best lazer z. Or tiger cat 2 trying to decide on which one I'm an exmark fan but scag tiger cat 2 seems well built thanks..
Both are great but go with what mower the dealer supports!
Brian thanks for the video. My customers love my stripping I have Gravley zhd 52. I am still learning the 3pt turn. Still leaving turn Mark's. Be safe and thank you.
Hey Brian I’m telling ya Ferris all the way I run 5 zero turns and 2 stand ons thebest mower ever
Those Ferris are nice indeed!
3 point turn is the way to do it! You won’t tear the lawn up at all if you do it right.
How did you start to build your clients?
Just flyers and word of mouth pal
Good video my man. Btw, if you don't mind me asking was the Gravely a freebie in exchange for the exposure they get from being featured on your channel?
Ousama Abdu thanks pal. Yeah we are Gravely Ambassadors so we are showing their equipment and demoing / testing new equipment. Nothings free I’ll tell you that tho. It’s an animal to keep creating videos for RUclips lol, but yeah essentially you guessed it.
Great video brother keep up the good work
GIBSON'S MOWING
FORT WAYNE INDIANA
Buy a new one and trade that one in. IRS Section 179 allows you to deduct the full cost of a new mower in one year.
mlhm5 correct. All about tax planning, if you need the write off you can take the whole piece. You cannot use it to get a loss but that for another topic 😬
2.75 is my go to cut heighth for everything on the Lazer Z lol 3.00-3.25 If it's tall grass and I don't want a lot of clippings built up.
Good stuff
also when turning. always or try to always keep all the tires moving. never drag the inside wheel
Great tip
Hey Brian love your videos. Can you do any demos on kubota's and have your input on that?
Maybe next summer ya!
you can get bagger for a stander. I have one for my quickcat
Yeah we’ll see I’ll probably trade it in. Well see. The STARIS is a little ugly but if it cuts it cuts, agreed!
Also for a turn I got told make a k or it’s like k turn that’s how I got use to it. Also would ever up grade to a box truck instead of a trailer
I try my best to square up my stripes to the house. Makes them look like they belong for lack of better words, haha.
I here wright standers are pretty good!
which rider would you get next if exmark would you get the Red tech X series i saw they dont have that 34 hp engine anymore
Maybe a new Carb Kawi but hard to say. Someone said you can get the Kohler without the Red. Any truth to that?
i saw only kawi for efi and carb i can double check
Brian's Lawn Maintenance i only see Kawi options but your mower is still available i checked
Would you get gas or diesel mower
Only gas
I like the gravely 52 but unfortunately not the shut cover
and why do i see two other leaf blowers on the ground
Great video, really appreciate your honesty in your videos. Are you aware you can get after market HUGE debris collecting systems for your standers? I think standers are easier to operate, get off and on, better field of view and TAKE UP LESS SPACE ON THE TRAILER.
Yeah I’m open to anything!
@@BriansLawnMaintenance check out RED MAGIC MAX FILL it fits on a stander. You can see the videos on RUclips.
@@BriansLawnMaintenance Brian, what makes your RUclips channel great is that you reply to messages, some other landscape channels don't and respond accordingly.
Those ECV engines are ones I've been told to stay away from. Love my old kohler command
Good luck with your Z!
Edged or trimmer? Trimmer we use the ECHO 2620. It comes with a speed feed head attached, you’re good to go.
Ps, thanks for the kind words.
@@BriansLawnMaintenance Trimmer is fine for us. I can trim a fairly straight line along all of our concrete edges. We actually have about twice the amount that needs trimming around our home and fence lines.
Thank you for the quick reply. Check out my channel sometime and you will be able to see at least our back yard.
Are you going to demo a wright mower?
Ya next summer for sure
Hey brian, if you get a new lazer, get one with the Kawasaki! That's the best engine. Kohler's don't hold up well. The Kawasaki keeps going
So I’ve heard!!
I’ve got the Fx921V I love it. No bogging and no issues so far. “Knock on wood”. 😂
Crank seal? Oil drain tube loose? Pull the motor n have a look
Ya if they pull the motor that’s gonna be $500-1K. Can’t wait
Nice video. Is Weingartz only in your state? Can’t wait to attend!
Yeah. They’re a great dealer even better people
That’s no good for me... lol... I’m in Maryland
Looks like the low oil pressure switch went. Just went Threw the same thing
Please try a Grasshopper
We don't really see those around here.. But maybe in 2019!
Are you running a diesel or gasser there?
Gas
Thinking about making the switch back myself
stripes look good
Hey Brian not sure if anyone has asked you this but a few years ago Geek To Freak was still making lawn care videos did you ever watch his channel? You are both similar. Both Mowing Grass, Making Cash and Kicking Ass. 👍
Never met the guy but ya I watched his videos for maybe 6 months before he took them all down!
Brian's Lawn Maintenance Can't stand haters if people would just grow up. His channel would probably still be around.
Yeah I think he just went in a different direction with his kids toy channel when it blew up. He definitely cashed in that's for sure.
