    Does it have to be exactly 12 turns? My wire must be a bit too thick, I can only get 10 turns on the ferrite core - is this enough?
    Many thanks for any comments & help :)

      Same here. I wish someone with know-how would answer this. In the meantime, I'm going to try different wire to get 12 full turns.

    Thanks for the video. However, I could get only 9 turns each side, do you think that would have much of an impact? Its 18awg but with quite thick silicone insulation.

    Which side goes to coax? Or it doesnt matter?

    • @yv5emghamradio249
      @yv5emghamradio249  4 года назад +1

      Each side works the same In or Out, and you can put the centre of Coaxial cable in the whatever color you want, and the shield on the other. In the same side off course. 73.

    Is this Balun used only for dipoles? Is one needed for a beam antenna say something like a single band 3 element yagi with a gamma match, matched to the center freq of the band (10 Meters)? The yagi's driven element is basically a rotatable dipole.

    • @yv5emghamradio249
      @yv5emghamradio249  3 года назад

      Yes!.. it works with any Antenna, remember, you need for a perfect match, 2 elements that connects your antenna with your radio.. a Impedance coupler.. and a Common Mode Current supressor.. in case, your antenna it's a symmetrical antenna , like a Dipole, you need only one 1:1 Balun like this, .. but if the antenna , needs, another impedance relation, like 4:1, 9:1, etc... , You need 2 Baluns.. The Impedance Match, and the Common mode Current noise supressor..

    Is the 32" wire length important other than having enough to finish the wraps? Also is the length of the wires at each finished end important. I made 2 after I watched this. They both give different readings on the10 meter dipole. I used the same torroid and the same wires as in the video. Tested with my RigExpert AA-600 and the Icom 756 pro III.

    • @yv5emghamradio249
      @yv5emghamradio249  3 года назад +3

      I Ken, ..the initial length of the wires for making the Balun, are not important, only for avoid the mess with long wires... But., try to keep the finished ends, wrapped and no longer of 2 inches.. Try to keep the wire, equally spaced on each turn and very tight to the Core.. It's almost impossible to make, to Baluns exactly equal., 73

    By stacking cores to increase the power handling capability, Say 2 cores for 500 watts or more, would the wire size need to be increased as well?

    • @N1SEP-
      @N1SEP- Год назад

      no, stay with 18AWG, but maybe use PTFE wire, much better heat rated

    Nice demonstration! For what maximum power do you rate this balun?

    • @yv5emghamradio249
      @yv5emghamradio249  4 года назад +1

      With this Toroid, easy 300 Watts nominal, and 500w peak, (only few seconds).

      I believe the designer of this balun, Wolfgang Wippermann DG0SA, rated it to 800w. FT240-43 as core. The isolation must be PTFE and the wire 18AWG, silver plated. 73

    muy bueno colega, se puede hacer uno con núcleo al aire y tubo pvc?

    • @yv5emghamradio249
      @yv5emghamradio249  4 года назад +1

      No de este tipo o configuración, los Choke Balun de "Aire" con tubos PVC, son totalmente diferentes, poseen un rango de atenuación de la Corriente de modo común, mucho más "leve". y no son tan eficientes, como uno con núcleo de Ferrita.

    I'm curious, why FT240-43 and not -31?

    • @gravestonemyth
      @gravestonemyth 3 года назад

      Same here. I know the 31 mix is preferred for coax-type current baluns.

    • @W-733_KWX
      @W-733_KWX 2 года назад

      Same on my side, 31 mix is better for 1:1 to remove RFI (common mode). For efhw mix 43 is prefered.
