Meo Fusciiuni - I am so excited for your interview! Thank you for shinning the light on this very underrated brand (at least in RUclips, but I feel that for those who know their niche fragrance houses, this is on top of the list). Sogni sounds so interesting! I am from Asia so the rice notes is something that is of interest. There’s only one I tried and have a small sample of (Affiniscence Santal Basmati). On a separate note, I wonder how Fueguia’s Arabica compares to Meo Fusciuni’s Little Song? The “perfect” coffee is still in my quest for special notes (the other one is the “perfect” rose).
Creed - I’ve watched a couple of interviews with the writer of The Ghost Perfumer AFTER I’ve tried exploring Creed perfumes. I have the discovery set of those that are female targeted but unfortunately, none really spoke to me that I’ve almost forgotten about them and the set remains at the back of my wardrobe. I’ll try to explore them at another time and see if my impression would change. That said, I buy my perfumes based on the notes and the composition. 😅I’d admit that the history (+marketing) add some depth and mystery to the brand, and in some cases sealed the deal for me. But the house of Creed is not one those - history concocted or not.
If you think about it, perfumes are essentially fragrant water. So I feel that our fascination with perfumes is driven mostly by what we feel and the stories we make up in our minds, the associations we come up with after smelling the composition, seeing and appreciating the bottle and branding, etc. The magic and chemistry would be different for each individual. Some get it, some don’t. And I’m okay with that.

The problem with Creed is two fold,, firstly they lied about the heritage of the business, they were not perfumers and secondly Olivier Creed claims to be the perfumer which he is not. I don't think these fall under marketing license, people just think that they are being lied to. Its not uncommon for perfume brands to use external, professional perfumers under the brands direction, thats fine. Amouage for example do not hide the fact they use perfumers and so do many other brands. In short, people don't like it when they think they have been lied to, simple as that (i dont accept what Creed have done is marketing license).. Do they have some good fragrances? yes of course, they are using some of the best perfumers so of course they have some good fragrances,,,, I do think they are overpriced though and don't last very long. I think Blackrock have their work cut out for them to win back a lot of the fragrance community.

I've defected from Team Coffee to Team Mate! It is a Guayaki Enlighten Mint though, haven't gotten to a traditional one yet. Creed is the one brand I feel no guilt about buying their clones. When a company consistently raises prices while lowering quality I don't want to fork over the money for the real things, even at discounters. My favorite Creed fragrance is Virgin Island Water, and I imagine I will get a bottle of that eventually.

Hi Marcelo...you already know how much I enjoy Creed fragrances, however there appears to be changes in formulations over the years. With Creed now being owned by Black Rock I'm expecting more changes. Longevity notwithstanding, I still love the stuff. Green Irish Tweed, Himalaya, Bois du Portugal, Original Vetiver, etc are among some of my favorite fragrances. Ah Fueguia...! Still enjoying this house! Great discussion! I’m one of those that struggles to get over the dishonesty with Creed, feeling like it’s an insult to the craft and its artisans.
That said … I still love the old episodes of The Cosby Show, even though he’s turned out to be a legendary creep and outright criminal.
I’m not totally sure where my logic is there … It’s a tricky one, isn’t it?

Yes, I agree that there is a sense of betrayal with what seems to have been exaggerated claims.
It's funny, but I've been able to dismiss this really quickly from my end. I think it's because I never purchased the fragrance's with the notion that Olivier was 'the guy'....I bought them because at the time (early niche journey) I found these fragrance's so excitingly unique/dynamic/beautiful that I couldn't help but jump in.
Now as I look back on the aftermath of truth coming about their creations and history etc....I shrug my shoulders and I still reach for these fragrance's. I still love wearing them🤷🏽‍♂️ (maybe I'm being a fool....after all we are emotional/irrational creatures....or is it just me🦍😬)

I used to like Aventus alright, but lost interest in it. Just never found Creed fragrances very interesting, though I can see the appeal. Tried 'Wind Flowers' recently, and thought that was pretty good, but not fascinating. Oliver Creed's clearly behaved quite badly, but my thoughts on their fragrances aren't influenced by that.

I looked around, they're selling that Arabica scent in 100ml for €428 (and 30ml for €257), but it is limited to 100 it appears (based on bottle design). Wish I could try it somehow. Also wish I could go to Esxence, I hope to attend next year though. Last year we had some interesting releases there. Pretty sure Nishane revealed the Time Capsule Collection at Esxence and Tero is a true all-star scent that is yet to pick up in the mainstream. Royal Crown also revealed Nocturna/Nizam last time around - those aren't really scents that excited me that much, Nocturna gave me vibes of SHL's God of Fire so I may eventually get it, but it's not even top 25 on the wishlist currently. Don't remember anything else, besides the video that I think you and Kev did with Parfums d'Elmar.
As for Creed, it's not a brand that wows me. And that 1760 aspect of their branding - objectively speaking, do we even give a s**t? Having history as a brand is completely irrelevant outside of it being a historic discussion point, it doesn't really bring anything to the table. Switching lanes - to me, Creed's main problem is the heavy utilization of scent profiles that I would associate with older gentlemen. And to me, Roja Dove does a far better job at taking vintage scents and adding a unique twist to them than Creed does. Mind you, I haven't even touched on the fact that Creed has batch/performance variance and is almost entirely concentrated into a single scent class (masculine aromatics). Not to nitpick too much, but I find Royal Oud very much a semi-pro scent. It's like a sweetened fougere, it's like if you combined Oceania from Roja with Apex from Roja with slightly added sweeter hints. Bois du Portugal is definitely 5-star because I just cannot disassociate it from an older gentleman.

Mate, I always love reading your input...thank you.
I appreciate your thoughtful comments and love your objectivity, and yes agree with most of your points. It's funny, but I've recognised my irrational relationship with Creed. It was one of my first love's within niche that I committed over wholeheartedly and even though I rationally think about all the irregularities with their 'history' etc....I still look at the bottles with doe eyes and inhale their fragrances with joy in my heart (hook, line and sinker😫)
Thanks again @DivineFrag for jumping into the conversation👊🏽

@@TheNicheFragranceCollectori love their smells but for my money there's only 2 i really enjoy. Bois du Portugal and royal oud. Royal oud is definitely a cedar scent that i love. No real oud in there though lol. Bois might come across as old-school but i think it's masculine and timeless. One of the best fougeres i know. I'm not even middle aged, but I'd still wear it. It's the image of a classic man not a modern one. Imo

Much love to you my friend and thanks for the great content and all your endeavours. So I’m a big creed fan both pre and post reading the ghost perfumer. I have all the men’s standard line and one vaulted creed. The marketing stories did influence me I have to be honest; the Duke of Windsor, Queen Victoria, Prince Charles, Frank Sinatra etc etc and if they are all lies it is really disappointing and to be honest unnecessary. The heritage from 1760 alone and a transition to fragrance In the 70’s is fine. The truth will do. The new marketing team is now going down that line I’m glad to see. The fragrances are good enough on their own for me. I’m sure there is more to the story than Gabe has began in his book. We may never know fully but I do know I love Creed fragrances but I do feel disappointed with the fabrications. Much love from Bradford in the uk X

I enjoy reading the various comments and understand how others feel about certain topics and yes, I had this episode brewing for a few days in my brain, knowing that it would spur on further conversation on this topic (which is fun to read and engage in).
I'm a big fan of all things Penhaligons and my recommendation would be:
      - Halfeti: I actually wear this during our Melbourne summers (which we get everything for dry heat to high humidity) and it performs amazingly. It is a floral fragrance, but very subtle and can easily be worn on a man. I wouldn't recommend the flankers, go for the original
      - Blenhiem Bouquet: this is one of the company's original fragrance's and it seems from another era. It's a wonderful blend of citrus and musk. Also a great summer fragrance
      - Endymion Concentrate: wonderful aromatic masculine classic.
Try these and let me know what you think. I can recommend others, but this is a great start....good luck @sundiatasoubefree683, awesome to hear from you👊🏽

@@TheNicheFragranceCollector Thank you for the response, you actually sparked my interest in Penhalligon when you briefly touched on their history, it is always fascinating to hear the stories behind some of these fabled houses and how they started from humble beginnings. I have sampled the Tragedy of Lord George because I am a big fan of barbershop fragrances and I must say it is the most beautiful composition I have ever smelled, if the fragrances you mentioned are anywhere near the quality of that one then I am in for a treat!
Lastly I think your perspective on Creed is a very mature outlook but I can understand why people would feel betrayed, but at the end of the day it’s the “juice” that matters although I will concede that prestige and lineage plays a huge role in everything, reputation matters, especially when it comes to branding, that’s why companies like Rolex, Bentley and Mercedes can charge such exorbitant prices, because of the cachet of the name, this whole Creed scandal damages that reputation and is going to eventually effect their bottom line which is unfortunate.

As a creative person, I can not condone the plagiarism! If my work was presented as someone else's, I'd lose my mind! It is completely WRONG and detrimental to the creator. It's not the same as Amouage because the Noses are given credit as creators. The company that bought Creed has a lot of work to do to repair this brand! Somewhat newbie to the scene here hello! (Although TBH I did dive in with Duro and Frapin's 1270 Extreme so already breaking the chart!)
Isn't the issue with Creed less about lying to the customer and more about lying to Bourdon? Like, my impression from the information presented is that them not "really" having been around for hundreds of years is more a side-jab against the main complaint, which is that the artist got shafted. Since it's the perfumers who make the scents we enjoy shouldn't we be quite concerned about their treatment?
At any rate, looking forward to continuing to follow you! I do have a question! Have you come across Frater, a New Zealand brand by another self-taught perfumer?

Great video Marcelo!! I’m also a big Creed fan and own all of the men’s line plus a few more along with my wife’s collection. I feel that because Creed is so well known and Aventus is so popular, that it’s easy for some to hate. If you then consider the questioning the perfumers, more food for the haters. For me it’s always about the smell, if I like something I don’t really care about all the rest. Your categorization is spot on, I think you can substitute either Royal Water or Royal Mayfair for Bois do Portugal, but that’s splitting hairs.👍👍👍

I only bought into Creed Vetiver, I gifted my brother a bottle of Aventus and he loves it which is great and I’ve still got an unopened bottle of GIT. I’ve always felt that when my current bottle of Orginal Vetiver runs out I’ll move on to Bois de Portugal, purely based on how you spoke about it in the video with your nephew, irrespective of however brief it was. I’ll catch up with some of the Maté talks. Your videos are awesome and enlightening to those who, like me, have zero experience in the Art.

I sampled it when I bought the Aventus and it had such a beautiful finish to it, I’m totally against having more than one bottle to use at a time and that’s the reason I gifted off the sealed Aventus. I shall break this rookie/base level shenanigans and go all in.
Take Care Marcelo, catch you in the next one

    Hello Marcelo!
Would you be interested in making a video about fragrances that you were disappointed with after buying or testing them? For me it has to be “or du serail” I bought a sample and that honey note (that seemed to last forever ) made me feel sick 🤢 tried it a few Months later but same result 🤢
Have a good week and keep up the good work!

Hello Jack! Good to hear from you homie👊🏽
I like the idea of this. This would make for an awesome Mate Talk....let me put my thinking cap on for this.
Interesting that Or du Serail is a 'no go' for you. I really like this fragrance a lot and I'm always 'banging on about it'. What you mentioned is 100% on point. It does have an incredibly sickly fruit/honey note at the opening; and at first it was waaaaaay too much for me....but I love it now🧡🥰 I actually rank this as one of my best Tobacco fragrance's
I would be curious to know if you returned to this in 6 months (which will be a nice cold winter for you) if you feel the same way🤔
Great to hear from you mate! Thanks for jumping into the conversation😎

Great video yet again. This is why i love Floris (sorry to bring it up again) because their history of their perfumes are actually documented in their ledgers. I visited their London store that has been there since the 1700s and they have actual royal warrant and continue to make perfumes for the royals to this day. Their fragrances are not mind blowing but the history makes it worth it

Unfortunately Creed is a big red light to me. Definetly not my style of perfumery. Too light on my skin for the almost unbelievable price point. I feel all of their fragrances are leaning more mature.
I know the feeling of fragrances wearing you and not the other way around. I feel that way every time i try aromatic fougeres

Lol hahahaha but I'm usually good at recognizing fragrances.. but maybe certain molecules elude me 😅. My collection. Is small compared to yours, but my nose is pretty accurate usually. I appreciate your effort for standing behind a brand that creates scents you love. I don’t mind exaggerated marketing, it’s part of the game. However, if the wing creators would have claimed they provided Jesse Owens with his favourite beverage since 1928, they would have lost my respect. It is hard to separate a blatant lie from the product. I appreciate Green Irish Tweed, am underwhelmed by Royal Ceder and should get my nose on a vintage Bois de Portugal. But the marketing and batch thinning controversies don’t entice me to order a sample. Again, hats of for the effort made here, but it feels like we are beating a dead horse here, with a birch tar scented russian reindeer leather saddle. That does not mean we can not embrace the jewels from the past that once were good. It is like Balenciaga Pour Homme, a beautiful scent from the past from a brand that currently is near death (and much more serious controversies by the way).

@@TheNicheFragranceCollectorIf Creed existed before the late sixties I think there would be plenty of evidence to verify it, also I think the brand would have been well known enough for successful people like Hollywood types to buy them as well as the name Creed and their history should have been documented in at least some of the many books written about the history of fragrances, and fragrance manufacturers. I do have to give Creed credit for getting so many people to believe their story without presenting any evidence at all to confirm what they claim to be true.👍🏻

@@Shadowman-1960 Yep, I hear you. The stories that I've heard is that they were making bespoke fragrance's for certain people, hence why they weren't in the lime light. Then decided in 1970 to open up the doors to the general public.
