IMO Xillia 2 has the best battle system in the series with Ludger having the best combo potential on top of being able to transform just makes him a really amazing protagonist. Still my favorite Tales of game, and maybe one day Bamco can port the duology to PC hopefully, which could potentially fix all the slowdown issues.
@@justdev8965 Latest reply ever, but on the original PS3 version when there was a bunch of stuff happening in battles and some mystic artes like Ludger and Gaius duo MA and Form Destroyer, the game would usually slowdown. After having played the game on Emulator though the game doesn't slow down at all depending on your pc, but I still hope that the game gets ported along with Graces as well
Xillia 2 is the reason i wish for feature Tales games to have modern themes in it like with cellphones, tv, cars you name it instead keeping it the same medieval like themes. Like with Final Fantasy that use to be about castles and dragons and all but around FF7 and some games after 7 they started to use modern themes in it. In Xillia 2 it was nice and refreshing to see a world that has technology like that in a Tales game instead of the same fantasy medieval like themes in it. Now i'm not trying to say that medieval things in games, shows, comics or whatever is bad i just feel that the Tales series just needs to evolve a bit that's all and wish they made more feature Tales game with those kinds of themes in it. They can even make a Tales game that has modern and medieval like themes in it like with FF15 if they want just have it where it does have those themes in it.
that's what i was hoping arise would do, but it seems like they're going for something like xillia 2 again where it's half and half, or 60/40 with more of an emphasis on the nature and fantasy environments. would love for a modern setting in a future entry
I don't get it, Symphonia, Rebirth or Abyss didn't have a medieval setting. Imo a modern world is a bad idea because it takes you back to reality. I rather have a whole new thing like Skies of Arcadia/Baten Kaitos or FF9 than a modern stuff/sci fi like ff7, 8 or Star Ocean it's much more charming. If anything, Tales of needs to take inspiration from western Rpg when it comes to world building. But that's just my opinion ^^
I feel like it's worth noting on the gameplay side that some select bosses and areas, particularly within Chapters, will level scale to you, so this game really promotes mastering the system rather than just grinding. This includes the first Chronos fight. It only scales up to a point but it's a good mechanic to keep the game difficult despite grinding. Great work on the video Zaffre! A perfect summary of my feelings on the game.
ya know, that makes a lot of sense lol. wish more games in the series would do that, it really helped the challenge factor and is a huge reason the combat works so well. glad you enjoyed!
@@lucklei4665 I can't really say much. I'm Berseria trash as well, since Berseria is my second favorite game in the series, even though I don't love the combat all that much. Not because I think the combat is bad, but because I suck at it. (I have trouble memorizing the properties of attacks since there are so many.) 🤣
@@ZaffreRevolution Also, did you know that you can disable the ability for an AI to activate linked arts on their own? This effectively stops them from stealing the overlimit.
"Who the heck's gonna start with Xillia 2?" .......uh, I did. XD It actually worked out fine on its own too. The only major spoiler items in the first game are either repeated in X2 meaning you'll get your first taste of it regardless of which one you play, or are not actually talked about at all. Other parts might have been a surprise if I hadn't already played Tales games before. As such, while it's funny seeing Ludger and Elle react to Jude's story about what happened when they first entered Elympios, to me it was exactly what I expected to hear. XD Additionally the main cast gets to make a great impression due to the attention on them being a lot more spread out than it was in the first game, and I felt like in terms of gameplay X2 made a ton of little changes that made a big difference. I didn't mind the debt OR the lack of any-time party switching. The fact they stayed in towns when you didn't bring them along actually made it feel a bit more like they had lives outside of your adventure, and the debt was... easy to pay off. I usually had it taken care of well ahead of time. Things I DID prefer in X1 were the Lillium Orbs and Shop system. Tales has always swapped between very manual character growth systems with a lot of control and very automated/minimal systems designed to be streamlined, and I have ALWAYS preferred the more manual ones. While they usually have at least one major flaw to deal with I'd still rather have Symphonia's Ex Gems, Xillia's Lillium Orbs or Zestiria's equipment skill grid over something that's just empty and boring for the sake of being easy to use. :/ Talking about the game demanding you to be invested in it and get good reminds me of Ninja Gaiden. "Learn to be patient and not attack everything head-on or die. There's no alternative." XD But it's also an interesting comment to me because I don't like it when a game tries to coerce you into playing how 'it' wants, but I love XIllia 2 because it doesn't do it the way other games usually do. Most games try to get you to play how they want by constantly grading your performance and a lot of Tales games have Grade as well, but Xillia changed that format so it's more of an achievement system and I actually loved that. I like it when a game defines how it wants you to perform through the challenges it presents instead of just complaining at you about not doing easy tasks in the 'ideal' way.
Ah I knew I was forgetting something. Yeah I was a fan of how the original Xillia did skills too but this game's was still fine as is. Just not as creative or easy to understand, but that's alright. Skills were still great all things considered for how well they buffed the characters and made them stand out from each other. Kinda wild how you started with the sequel though but glad it worked out I guess lol. I knew there was gonna be someone to comment saying they did eventually.
2:02 A sip of some nice, steaming hot-and-fresh cold brew coffee. 5:12 Reminds me of when Ross Scott was reviewing The Secret World, and he found another person's review which said they still weren't sure whether they loved it or hated it. That person had over 2000 hours of playtime when they wrote that review.
I can only speak on what I remember from the story, and yeah the silent protagonist and "make your choice" thing always was weird. Got used to it enough but still definitely am not fiending for the series to try it again in a mainline title.
I like how you pronounce Xillia! I kept pronouncing it such as "Zillia"... Also, they fixed Rowan in this. I really like Elize, but for some reason when I try to run her artes, the enemy easily hone in on her. I like to keep her away from the crowd. I haven't gotten to the post game yet so I can't say I know how they end up late game wise.
Cool review! Finished this blast of sequel yesterday and absolutely loved everything about it, heck the game doesn't event bother telling me to do the side content and explore the lore more becaUSE I LOVE THESE BABIES AND I WANT TO SPEND MORE TIME WITH THEM AND LOVE THEM EVEN MORE so I ended up loving it a lot more than the first one, both are in my top right now I also love love love love love (okay that's enough) Ludger, Julius and Elle and CRIED MY EYES OUT BECAUSE OF THEM AND THESE ENDINGS.... WOAH Man I love this game... so flipping much
Alright alright, Zaffre. You've convinced me: I'll give Xillia 2 another try. I think I need to just sit down and play this one straight through without getting distracted by other games, because then my attention and affection for it could be divided instead of focused on falling in love with this title. And I *want* to like it! So I'm going to keep all that you said in mind and push through whatever problems I had with it prior. Thank you for always being so honest and passionate about this series - it helps push me outside my comfort zone in the gaming world, which I need and appreciate.
5:42 really curious I also replayed graces f thanks to your streams and although I hated playing on evil/chaos, even with grade shop perks, I found that on hard mode the game is very enjoyable, the combat is better than I remembered, because I actually tried to mix A and B artes and although the story wasn't anything ground breaking I found it pretty enjoyable, yes it's cheesy as hell, but since I was doing a 100% playthrough I got to see the majority of the skits and let me tell if it wasn't for them my opinion on the cast and maybe story would be very different, by the way thanks to the skits Hubert is one of my favorite companions in graces and Richard has an actual sense of humor even after all it happened in the main arc
Also note. Haven’t beat it yet. Only played a hand full of hrs. Need to get back to it. After beseria and then I gotta finish the extra story of grace f
I love playing both and like i said in one of your other videos, I do think Xillia despite the flaws(which regardless that's kind of why most things end up becoming masterpieces in a way and why we enjoy them) was something ambitious and actually did try to do something different which laid the groundwork for zestria and berseria although Zestria is another topic and from what i heard there was a lot more going on in terms of issues for its development than Xillia but I'll save that comment for when you do Zestria and Berseria revo review videos since the zestria anime did improve some story issues with the original game. also while i can see you are mostly a gaming channel have you thought about maybe reviewing the tales anime adaptions? at least to just see how they handled their source material since I know tales symphonia's 6 OVA i set ... at least i think it was 6 told the story vastly different from the game which was both interesting and also bad for certain reasons.
I feel that Xillia 2 is the definition of how to do follow up tales of sequels with the same old cast - by that I mean, it feels like the cast of the original has already developed and reached their character arcs but that doesn't mean they don't still have room to grow as people or that their journeys in life are over. I also think it's saying something that, out of all the tales of cast, Xillia is the one I felt myself wanting more of after the ending scene played out. I never felt like Jude was done yet, that I wanted to see Elize hang out with friends and just act like a normal person, and I especially hoped that I could see Leia move on from her life back home and find what she really wanted to do in life - and this sequel did just that. While I do think the choice option could have been more impactful, I overall found myself enjoying it, especially in skits, as far as replayability went, since sometimes I would choose to compliment or take one character's side in my first run and then choose the opposite in my next. My favorite example of this was the skit where Jude and Leia are arguing at the first time I picked that they fight like an old married couple (which they do, ofc) and Leia got all cute and embarrassed, but the second time I chose like a mom and kid and Jude started laughing which brought me endless joy as well. I also think it's interesting that, because the choice aren't AS impactful or different as they could be, it's obvious that you still get a very specific feeling from Ludger as a character. In a way, it feels less like you are Ludger and more that Ludger is his own character, you are just choosing and helping him come to his decisions with faster and stronger conviction. I'm having fun going through all your videos, so don't mind me, I'mma just binge them all now lol
This was the last game I finished in 2020 and it’s so close to passing my favorite Tales game, which is Vesperia. I love it a lot more than Xillia 1, which I found boring and uninteresting for 70% of the game. The themes and the music in Xillia 2 are incredible, and don’t get me started on Hymn of Proof and its importance in the story. This is also the only Tales game to make me really emotional.
I personality love tales of xillia 2 and it is my number one favorite video game alltime, I do like your review about it. =D I do have some side note and thoughts about it. 1) The story and side events was written by Naoki Yamamoto and the person who wrote the main story of xillia 1, was Daisuke Kiga, which is responsible for the character scenarios. Not only that, but there were also multiple other writers involved helping with the xillia 2 script. So there will be ups and downs other players may see. The story wasn't a one man job. 2) Gameplay-wise, i do have some thoughts about this. You mention that you couldn't switch character on the whim during battles. If you think about, back in xillia 1, you only have 6 playable characters. A small Sized character roster that it is possible for to switch characters. But in xillia 2, you have now 9 playable characters. It would probably work if there was 8 characters because the previous game pick 1 out of 2 characters on a slot, then pick a character who you want to switch out. having nine characters, it would be a disaster since you already got 4 characters filled in the slot and now, how are they going to put the ninth character in? On a developer perspective, it would be one huge headache and i can see why they took out the switching out mechanics. another thing is Since doing critical attacks leaves you an opening to attack more on the enemies, that also applies to bosses. This is a really good change since xillia 1, you couldn't combo the bosses at all. Not to mention there were more status effects if i can recall. The gameplay change revolved around how flexible you can do towards the enemies and how to sync with your teammates. 3) You forgot to mention that doing character event rewards the player with a tiny bit side character cutscene along with the main story. If you do jude side story then continue with the story, There are times the side event are brought up, making it sure the side event are relevant and a nice touch of why you like or understand this character. 4) Ludger is really powerful not just gameplay, but even the story will tell you that especially with the bad ending. Ludger assist is he mimics to the one who is linked up with. So if he linked with Alvin, Ludger will do alvin assist attack and break enemies guard. Linked with Elize? he will drain the enemy. Link with Milla? He will Bind the enemy. He is the true jack of all trades.
I feel if Tales of Xillia would have the insane content that Tales of Xillia 2 has (minus the debt system and the dialogue choice system) like it was intended, it would have been the best Tales of game ever made. I do believe that the original Tales of Xillia is the better overall game but damn man I wish that content was in that game instead of Xillia 2.
That damn pronunciation triggers me to no end. It's the same situation with gif or jif. Supposedly jif is the correct one according to the creator, but it fucking isn't because no one says it is and the creator is wrong. Same with goddamn Xillia. Watching the gameplay makes me want to play this mastapeece for the 100th time, even though it hasn't been that long at all since I last played it. Not even a year..- 5:00 Oh hey, it me. Not surprised or blaming you for not including my multi-tweet mini review. Be gentle on Graces F or I'll fight you. Sophie is the most precious thing in existence and the battle system is one of the series' best. I love Ludger's alternate costume that Rowen gives out. The black and red is so stylish, I really prefer it over the original. Too bad it also changes the battle theme. I never expected Elympios to be big, so I wasn't disappointed. It was already said to be basically a barren wasteland, so there was no surprise that not many cities would exist. Imo, self-insert/silent characters in story heavy games is a trait/cliche that needs to die out. Blank slates interacting with well written characters just doesn't mesh well at all. Still love ma boi Ludger to death though, can't blame him for being the silent type. I've yet to get the bad ending in all of my playthroughs, and I still refuse to get it. As much as I love the combat in this game, I just refuse to go through that pain. (Not getting into it further, can't go spoilin') Never noticed the game is harder than Xillia 1, though that's probably due to my garbage memory. I don't think I've encountered a difficulty spike of any kind in the game. Some were challenges, but nothing I could handle. Probably a lowkey flex i'm sorry. The slowdowns were never an issue to me. They just gave more of an impact to some of the attacks. Totally agree with ya on the debt system. It's such a nonissue. Nice video. Flew right on by.
As someone who's beaten the game twice, it took me an embarrassingly long time to figure out why Ludger's voice was locked until after the first playthrough XD
Did you seriously go through both games and not realize there's outright an option in the tactics menu in both Xillia games that says "Do not enter Overlimit" for their Linked Arte Usage?
Xillia 2. What can I say about it that I haven’t before? Nothing really. It’s just a good ass game. I guess that I can say one thing that always irked me was the character chapters and how when doing a specific character’s chapter, you will always have a certain partner (Jude and Milla, Leia and Alvin, etc). It’s not a game breaker or anything (it’s still my favorite Tales game) but I always wished they would spice it up a little and show more interaction with the rest of the cast. Like maybe have one Jude chapter have Alvin or Elize accompanying you. That’s really all I got to say. I just love this game.
I completely understand your issues with overlimit for this game but, the make you work to improve the gauge build up to do the Hi Ougi’s more and more. I get at least two in a fight on Unknown difficulty.
Xillia 2 was fine in its own way but it does contradict some things in 1 and really sucks on how the olympians act like ungrateful people being saved and all from dying. I liked the game but not as much as the others as ludger was a bishounen protagonist and millia tsundere died so early and so many plot points were dropped lile tsundere milla learning to cook and elle leaving in the last act left so.much to be cleared with her power to keep things in other worlds never fully fleshed out. But I loved seeing the dead people from 1 and made me cry seeing the what ifs that could have happened in jaio if he raised elise as a daughter more and angria if she lived to be friends with leia with presea getting a ring. Those scenes made me cry seeing them again.
Personaly i found them overly sad, it is kinda emotional manipulation when they use dead people for that! Plus the whole trillions of deaths that gets little mention makes the whole main plot infuriating!!!
Combat wise i loves that they gave Gaius and muzet into thr party as playing with the bad guys is Alwyas a delight and giving Every one a heal was a great idea to let the party be more flexible was great. Only part I hated was how the story went with some stuff unfinished and how pusher is so overpowered compared to the rest of the cast and they even nerfed jude leia and elize in thier best points and speed. I didn't like that much.
The name "Eternia" was copyrighted, so they couldn't use it back then. It was also because at the time, Destiny was the only game released in the West. So they probably wanted to further connect the series by calling Eternia "Destiny II". In other words: Eternia - 3rd game in the series. "Destiny II" - Eternia, but different name. Destiny 2 - The REAL Destiny 2, and 4th game in the series.
I find it weird that you cited the lack of cities as a problem....... with the story? I DO agree that it's a problem,. but that's more specifically an issue with the world design and world building, not the story. I also think saying that the more episodic nature of the game is a problem sounds more like a personal issue than anything else. I do agree that the decision making not having much impact was kind of a bummer, but I don't think it's as big of a problem as you make it out to be, I think it's more just a shame that it has a lot of wasted potential, but I don't think it's actively detrimental to the game. Woof STRONGLY disagreed with you on your overall assessment of the story, I think XIllia 2 has a way better, way more interesting story than the first one..... is what I was gonna say until you brought up character quests, we cool now, lol. I still think calling the main plot "okay" is too harsh as I'd say it's generally more engaging than the plot of the first, but we'll just have to agree to disagree there, at least we agree that character quests are a big part of what makes Xillia 2 great. I also really liked how you compared it to Majora's Mask, it's a pretty perfect way to look at Xillia 2. I pretty much agree with you combat, it's pretty great, one of the best in the series without a doubt. "Objectively speaking, the debt system is an issue" yeaaaaaah, you might not want to say things like that dude. it will just bite you in the ass All the "problems" you stated could be spun as positives, which you yourself did not long afterwards, invalidating the statement. I think this part would've worked a lot better by removing the objectivity angle entirely, you're just asking for trouble when you do that, especially since you were working against yourself in the process. Also no offense, but given your opinion of arte trees, I am not entirely looking forward to your video on Graces f. Don't worry, I will watch it to hear you out, but sorry dude that's how I feel. Anyways, this comment probably came off more negative than I intended but I do think this is a good video overall, but as a fellow content creator and Tales fanatic, I didn't want to sugarcoat it so that you can keep improving. Looking forward to the next Tales video you make man.
No I'm glad you aren't sugarcoating anything. I'm always one to ask people what's wrong with my videos because I never feel like I'm quite "there" yet so this kinda of tough criticism is really helpful to me, so thank you for taking the time to comment something like this. It's clear I have a long way to go when it comes to scripting, especially when criticizing the story as there are tons more terms I either don't use or get confused with others so thank you for clearing some stuff up for me and I'll definitely take that into account when moving forward. And I'll be more weary when writing something as objective then invalidating it the next second haha that's an oof on me. I hope you don't think my Graces video's gonna be me ragging on the game! I don't hate it, it's more of a love/hate relationship I just like adding fuel to the fire to get people interested. Even if I did hate it though, I hope that wouldn't detract from your enjoyment. We can disagree entirely but still have a good time, and I'm not trying to take anything away from people who enjoy the game. I'll just have to ask you to trust me, but that won't be the next Tales video so we have a little bit before then anyway. Thanks again for the insightful comment and I hope to see you around here again.
@@ZaffreRevolution Do you have anyone that takes a look at your scripts when you finish them? Sometimes it's good just to have another pair of eyes on it so you can get a different perspective, it can give you a great indication of whether you're on the right track or not. I've actually edited tons of scripts over the years and similarly I've had friends take a look at my scripts aswell which have helped understand what I was doing right and wrong. I think it's important to have an editor or at the very least, someone who is willing to tell it like it is, so that your scripts can get the polish they need so errors you might otherwise miss get ironed out. Sometimes we work on something for so long, we get too close to them and we aren't able to examine them properly anymore, which is why it's so important to have someone else come at it from a more detached standpoint. As for Graces f, I think we just don't see eye to eye when it comes to arte trees, I didn't think you were gonna call the entire game garbage, I am mostly taking issue with you calling the system shallow which I have a huge problem with. Like I said I am still gonna give your video a chance when I see it, and hey I might end up agreeing, but I given that Tales of Graces f has my favorite combat out of any Tales game, well, I kinda doubt it, lol.
Daniel Santos I don't! Probably should though, huh? Your writing is really solid so if you don't mind I'd appreciate some help in regards to editing and critiquing my writing before it comes out. I did say arte trees were shallow in my Arise video though didn't I? Well I'll try to amend that in my Graces video because that's something that applies more to something like Berseria. Graces' combat isn't my favorite anymore but for reasons other than arte trees and I will definitely express those concerns in the review. But hey we'll see what happens
@@ZaffreRevolution Sure I don't mind taking a look at your scripts, but I do charge just to let you know. My rates aren't anything crazy though, the most I ever charged was $20, but I am willing to negotiate if you feel it's too high. Ah, yeah, to be fair Berseria's combat fell flat for me too, but I felt that was due to how combat shifted so heavily into elemental weaknesses which inadvertently created a dominant strategy. Like, why bother creating cool combos when you should just use fire on the water monster every single time. Zestiria suffered from this too, although it was probably worse there since you had to fuse every single time and it made being in human form obsolete........ Zesteiria was such a mess, lol.
Ok I know for a fact there is a strategy setting where you can have party members not use linked arts. They can still link, but not use linked arts. So that problem about combat I have to disagree with. I’m pretty sure it was in the first one too, but I’m not 100% on that.
@@ZaffreRevolution it was a bad idea on all fronts and not seen again. Rather they made a side mission like luke paying for the village instead as that worked out well enough. Also the artes hunts was fun with luke aside taking money from mama as she is mvp being so kind to luke even when she knows he is a replica of ashe her real son. Dad is a dick also. But yeah. Bad idea all around.
Well at least tales has a better release timeframe than when compared to the trails series in order of release below Tales in the sky 3 games Trails from zero and trails to azure Trails of cold steel 4 games And we didn't get official releases of zero and azure until after the cold steel games were done and zero and azure came out in japn years before cold steel one
You mentioned Arise there at the beginning, and as far as I know, they said that Arise is going to have a simultaneous worldwide release, like shown here: ruclips.net/video/1tUUHMmhYGA/видео.html
I guess one can also choose NOT to choose which one is better. My taste has always been unpopular, and that's not to complain or invite sympathy, but I just don't agree with gamers' use of the term "divisive." Games can't technically be "divisive" because it's the audience/ critics who usually do the hair-splitting and come up with diverse opinions. Diversity for me is never supposed to be negative or abrasive. I think it's illogical to assume that games are supposed to "unite" gamers in the first place, even when we're just talking about the Tales community. Sometimes homogeneity and consensus can be just as "bad" as having too many different opinions on the same thing, especially when the community begins to monopolize public discussions, thinking they alone are entitled to their "objective" opinions and "good" taste. (To cite an example, a Tales fan wrote a LONG lamentation on how Xillia 1 destroyed the Tales franchise and gave her depression for months/years? She got a lot of sympathy for that, but heck, how can a single game even destroy an entire system just because you hate it so much?)
Oh yes... The good one By the way I just realized that Milla is nude on the box-art, what's up with that, muzet has clothes so it's not because she is a spirit
Just me, replying to a year old comment I really love how Milla is depicted in that art, no clothes, hair obscured. Making it impossible to distinguish between original Milla and Fractured Milla. Basically, they both get an appearance as they are almost equally important characters.
I didn't really like Xillia 2. I think it's because I played it right after I finished Xillia 1, I felt a little burned out. I mean, the areas are mostly the same, the battle system also, but worst of all, I just couldn't get over the whole debt system - it drove me insane. So I just gave up on this game pretty quickly. Maybe I'll try it again sometime in the future and I'll think differently about it. For now, I still don't think that it would be fun for me. Screw the debt system.
it actually my favorite tales of, the battle system are fun. i think say it the best of franchise (it go down from xillia 2). and Ludger even though i don't like silient protagonist but i love Ludger . although the story all over the place since it about multi world, but to see the cast again and how they grow is great.
My biggest personal problem with Xillia 2 is Elle. She comes off as a spoiled bratty child that is a complete tag-along character since she is not playable. Because of this, I despised her and that made the ending to the game have no impact to me in regards to what happens to her. She just reminds me of my most hated anime character cliche, the little kid that gets in the way of the romance between the main characters due to selfish, possessive reasons. I am probably in the minority in this since I rarely see people bring this up, but this in my opinion is what brings Xillia 2 way down for me.
I think that the one who initiated the whole, making millions of planets and killing them if someone did smth wrong a bit more cringey, NOT getting his just deserves worse.
Yeah, Ur Right, *EX-Illia* Sounds Cooler Than *ZIlleea,* Also, I Think This Was Longer Than The Xillia Review... Way To *Not Go Into FULL Detail, There...* Aldo Considering The Game Itself Have ALOT Tô Say *&* Is Very Controversal Tô Say The Least, I Can Let It Slide
I beat this game for the first time today. As it turns out, the "bit of story - sidequest break - bit of story - sidequest break" gameplay loop happens to be exactly how I play games anyway, so Xillia 2 was _perfect_ for me. I'd put it on the same level as the first game, to be honest- I can't figure out which one I prefer.
Chars looked worse, debt was dumb, story was okay but first was way better, but the skill system was better, and the additional characters, Gaius and Muzet were great. The game is great, and in terms of gameplay it might be better than Xillia, but overall I'd say it's worse.
@@razzy9172 I'm a fan of both games, but I see the flaws in everything I like, because I want the things I like to be the best they can be and I don't want no "Tales of" Arise.
btw when you say "the most broken character in the series you mean the Xillia series ? Or the Tales one ? because I'd like to argue that Velvet is on a whole different class herself Ludger is a one man army Velvet is… much stronger
i think ludger's a bit more op than velvet. she's fun to play as but ludger's constant weapon switching, strength, and raw speed on top of being able to heal himself is just...unbeatable
I couldn't take Rowan. The most annoying character I have ever come across. Every time he opened his mouth, I cringed as if someone had punched me in the stomach.
"Tales doesn't really need grinds" The original Tales of Innocence would like to have a word with you But joke aside this video's great,I'm agree with the most of it but the dungeon I mean it could be worse and it's not even the worst dungeon design ever, the corridor dungeon
The debt "feature" ruined the game for me. At 1 point every other battle the prompt would pop up asking me to pay. But it doesnt ask for a minimum so i would throw 5k or 10k into it. And then 2 battles later... She ask for more money. Like wtf just name the fucking price so i dont have to see this pop up all the time.
All he said was it’s different in a good way for having a female as the main protagonist. It wouldn’t matter to me anyways, it’s an rpg so the point is playing the role and perspective of another person. I would finish his Xillia 1 review if you haven’t played it and are still considering getting the game.
"Are you prepared to destroy the world for a girl?"
Joel: Finally, someone who understands me
Tales of Xillia 2 or how it's more commonly called "How to be a shonen Daddy protagonist" you may find it weird that's just the truth
What slowdown issues?

@@ZaffreRevolution It makes the NG+ EXP buffs basically pointless except for reaching level 200 for the titles.
Just stumbled upon your retrospective series. I’m loving it so far, what a gem!
This is literally my favorite game in the series.
i can see why!
I'm such a berseria trash but yes xillia 2 is such a fun game
@@lucklei4665 I can't really say much. I'm Berseria trash as well, since Berseria is my second favorite game in the series, even though I don't love the combat all that much. Not because I think the combat is bad, but because I suck at it. (I have trouble memorizing the properties of attacks since there are so many.) 🤣
@@ZaffreRevolution I used the casino to raise affinity, by the way. Getting love potions isn't really too difficult.
@@ZaffreRevolution Also, did you know that you can disable the ability for an AI to activate linked arts on their own? This effectively stops them from stealing the overlimit.
Xillia an Xillia 2 were my introduction into the Tales of series... I've been addicted ever since.
"Who the heck's gonna start with Xillia 2?"
.......uh, I did. XD
It actually worked out fine on its own too. XD
Additionally the main cast gets to make a great impression due to the attention on them being a lot more spread out than it was in the first game, and I felt like in terms of gameplay X2 made a ton of little changes that made a big difference.
Talking about the game demanding you to be invested in it and get good reminds me of Ninja Gaiden.
As someone who's first game was ToS Dotnw, I can relate. XD
I just wish that ludger wasn't a silent protagonist.

Got used to it enough but still definitely am not fiending for the series to try it again in a mainline title.
should have been more liek western styled RPGs from say BioWare or Obsidian Entertainment about dialoge choices etc for Ludger.
Honestly I like the sound of having dept in a game.
Another wonderful video. Keep up the good work!
thank you dude
I like how you pronounce Xillia!
I kept pronouncing it such as "Zillia"...
Also, they fixed Rowan in this. I really like Elize, but for some reason when I try to run her artes, the enemy easily hone in on her. I like to keep her away from the crowd. I haven't gotten to the post game yet so I can't say I know how they end up late game wise.
Cool review!
Finished this blast of sequel yesterday and absolutely loved everything about it, heck the game doesn't event bother telling me to do the side content and explore the lore more becaUSE I LOVE THESE BABIES AND I WANT TO SPEND MORE TIME WITH THEM AND LOVE THEM EVEN MORE so I ended up loving it a lot more than the first one, both are in my top right now
I also love love love love love (okay that's enough) Ludger, Julius and Elle and CRIED MY EYES OUT BECAUSE OF THEM AND THESE ENDINGS.... WOAH
Man I love this game... so flipping much
Alright alright, Zaffre.
5:42 really curious I also replayed graces f thanks to your streams and although I hated playing on evil/chaos, even with grade shop perks, I found that on hard mode the game is very enjoyable, the combat is better than I remembered, because I actually tried to mix A and B artes and although the story wasn't anything ground breaking I found it pretty enjoyable, yes it's cheesy as hell, but since I was doing a 100% playthrough I got to see the majority of the skits and let me tell if it wasn't for them my opinion on the cast and maybe story would be very different, by the way thanks to the skits Hubert is one of my favorite companions in graces and Richard has an actual sense of humor even after all it happened in the main arc
yeah hard mode is a MUCH better time in graces f haha. i'll save my thoughts for the review but interesting perspective!
Didn’t like the silent protagonist thing. I love the game and the series. Also.... fat cat 👍
I do have some side note and thoughts about it.
I was hoping at some point if we could see an alvin character dive? Hes one of my favorite characters
Not even a year..-
5:00 Oh hey, it me.
(Not getting into it further, can't go spoilin')
Never noticed the game is harder than Xillia 1, though that's probably due to my garbage memory.

I love this game the most. I just really love the Xillia games.
just to put my two cents in this year old video. But you can unlock luger's voice for the choice options yeah?

Did you seriously go through both games and not realize there's outright an option in the tactics menu in both Xillia games that says "Do not enter Overlimit" for their Linked Arte Usage?
wait... fuck
I just love this game.
that's a good idea i never thought of! didn't bother me too much though, but would've been a really cool idea
Like i said it really only irked me (mainly on multiple play throughs) but it’s nothing I’m losing sleep over.
I completely understand your issues with overlimit for this game but, the make you work to improve the gauge build up to do the Hi Ougi’s more and more. I get at least two in a fight on Unknown difficulty.
Ight off to buy this game since I already brought xilla this week
Shoulda did this wiff the spoilers fam, I like takes on what happens in the story.
I didn't like that much.
when julius died i cried for hours
Still waiting for the Arise review. Even though I already played the game.
You can play as villians from a previous game.
I think that outside of Radant Mythology 3 and Rays that 's a first.
am I wrong or did Tales of Destiny 2 get released as Tales of Eternia?
The name "Eternia" was copyrighted, so they couldn't use it back then.
It was also because at the time, Destiny was the only game released in the West. So they probably wanted to further connect the series by calling Eternia "Destiny II".
In other words:
Eternia - 3rd game in the series.
"Destiny II" - Eternia, but different name.
Destiny 2 - The REAL Destiny 2, and 4th game in the series.
Mutton! Fresh mutton!
The most underrated overhated Tales game of all time.
I tried Zestiria and Berseria after this and the gameplay was practically trash.
Loved this game because it is a philosophical powerhouse that hits you like a train. It reminds me of Shinseki Yori.
@@ZaffreRevolution your the main reason I don't watch your tales videos, it kinda ruins the fun and the experience for me.
One thing i find annoying about the choice system is that Tales Of Symphonia did it first and better
Ok I know for a fact there is a strategy setting where you can have party members not use linked arts. They can still link, but not use linked arts. So that problem about combat I have to disagree with. I’m pretty sure it was in the first one too, but I’m not 100% on that.
I agree on how broken Ludger is. He is probably the most overpowered JRPG main characters in not just Tales franchise, but in JRPGs in my opinion
I once managed to clear the debt so early in the game I could play the game like normal like how the game should be played
well i think the debt helps the experience overall, but that's cool!
@@ZaffreRevolution it was a bad idea on all fronts and not seen again. Rather they made a side mission like luke paying for the village instead as that worked out well enough. But yeah. Bad idea all around.
Ludher is so OP he can take on the entire Xillia cast singlehandedly and win
Well at least tales has a better release timeframe than when compared to the trails series in order of release below
Tales in the sky 3 games
Trails from zero and trails to azure
Trails of cold steel 4 games
And we didn't get official releases of zero and azure until after the cold steel games were done and zero and azure came out in japn years before cold steel one

This game has lots of flaws but the combat is 10/10

Oh yes... The good one
By the way I just realized that Milla is nude on the box-art, what's up with that, muzet has clothes so it's not because she is a spirit
Just me, replying to a year old comment
I really love how Milla is depicted in that art, no clothes, hair obscured.
Tales of berseria next please?
i'm gonna save zestiria and berseria for last as build up to arise
@@ZaffreRevolution Aww welp can't wait till 2023 ︶︿︶
I feel like a bit of a broken record, but my opinion on Xillia 2 has not changed. Best Tales game for me, hands down.
Chars looked worse, debt was dumb, story was okay but first was way better, but the skill system was better, and the additional characters, Gaius and Muzet were great. The game is great, and in terms of gameplay it might be better than Xillia, but overall I'd say it's worse.
Your literally every Xillia 1 Fan I've come across lol
@@razzy9172 I'm a fan of both games, but I see the flaws in everything I like, because I want the things I like to be the best they can be and I don't want no "Tales of" Arise.
@@ThePurpleKnightmare Yeah.. Sure😐
btw when you say "the most broken character in the series you mean the Xillia series ? Or the Tales one ? because I'd like to argue that Velvet is on a whole different class herself
Ludger is a one man army
Velvet is… much stronger
i think ludger's a bit more op than velvet. she's fun to play as but ludger's constant weapon switching, strength, and raw speed on top of being able to heal himself is just...unbeatable
I remember when I played the game I hated the true ending and liked the normal ending way more lol
I really disliked Elle when I played the game.
I couldn't take Rowan. The most annoying character I have ever come across. Every time he opened his mouth, I cringed as if someone had punched me in the stomach.
"Tales doesn't really need grinds"
The original Tales of Innocence would like to have a word with you
But joke aside this video's great,I'm agree with the most of it but the dungeon
I mean it could be worse and it's not even the worst dungeon design ever, the corridor dungeon
shit, well if you liked the story I applaud you..... I can't bring myself to like it.
actually, I don't really like the character designs, they are very generic when compared to anime.
I notice Nova pops up when making enough Gald to even pay the amount.
The over-edgy plot ruins it for me
just finished berseria. great story...but the game play is so damn boring. I just coasted till i got to the next plot reveal.
I haven't played Xillia 1 so I'll skip this for now
ah that's fair!
I didn't watch the full one last time because I stopped at the joke about gender, hoping you don't make any here
i...didn't make a joke about gender...?
Dynasty Star what the hell are you talking about
@@jeremykane999 his Tales of Xillia 1 video.
All he said was it’s different in a good way for having a female as the main protagonist. It wouldn’t matter to me anyways, it’s an rpg so the point is playing the role and perspective of another person. I would finish his Xillia 1 review if you haven’t played it and are still considering getting the game.
@@jeremykane999 I don't really like it when people talk about identity politics at all, I don't think thats hard to understand.
