When the Wind Blows, The FUNdamentals of Hang Gliding

  • The words and music of the song were written, performed, recorded and engineered by the genius musician Tony Lasley. Tony recorded "When the Wind Blows" entirely on his phone right after the first sound recording app came out for the i-phone. His video of the recording process is very interesting, since he made all of the instrumental sounds by innovative modifications to his guitar. All of the orchestration you hear is the result of the application of Tony's creative mind to a single acoustic guitar. Prepare to be impressed. • When the Wind Blows
Interesting fact: Tony Lasley was my video-editing teacher when I took a class at Palomar College several years ago. When I first heard this song, I knew it would be perfect for a future hang gliding video. Tony has graciously agreed to allow me to use it in this film.
RJ Mckeehan and I shot the footage at Point of the Mountain Utah, South Side in September of 2020 and May of 2021. I shot the time-lapse videos in Utah in May 2021. The point of this and all my films is to show the great fun of flying hang gliders.

beautiful!! I am 53. started hang gliding at 41. I've been out of it for about 6 years. I'm getting ready to buy a new glider and get back up there. I miss it so bad.

Never been here but it looks like fun. John, if I keep watching your videos I'm gonna be looking for a glider. I thought about getting back into skydiving but flying hang gliders was my real passion. Dang it. I've still got my harness. Hmmm...

This is soooo awesome. If you start looking into Hang Gliding, John Heiney's name comes up again and again. I'm an old, former HG flyer from back in the mid-70's starting up all over again in Arizona. Someday, I'd like to meet this guy in person!

Excellent! The silky smooth vocals matches your flying. I did notice the ~35yr old glider...and the very modern Paragliders....I exclaimed out loud "when was this?" Thanks for showing us all the immense pleasure of ridge soaring. Nice work!

ordinarily I despise music in HG vids ( prefer the sound of the surroundings , harmony of the wing fighting the wind ) however in this vid , tastefully done , enjoyed it . Ps , nice flight

Great video, great selection of music, so soothing and acoustic.
I flew a 1984 Flight Designs Demon 175 (with _internal_ floating cross-tube) that had the same color pattern as your Dream. Most of my ridge soaring began with that wing.
Thanks John Heiny, for your contribution to the artful sport of hang gliding performance extraordinaire 💥

Nice. Music was very "Lennon-esque". Hang gliding needs to connect with spiritual roots and get away from the numbers game.

This is Point of the Mountain. It lies between Salt Lake City and Provo Utah in the USA. It's about 20 miles south of Salt Lake City. The I-15 Freeway runs north/south and passes close to the Point. You will see the north and south soaring ridges from the freeway. Join the club. Have fun. Fly safely. www.uhgpga.org/
