She did it at that world music awards that year.... I forget which was first
She went back and forth about agreeing to do VH1 Divas Live due to the date and being so close to her return home after the Butterfly Tour and being able to rest her vocals enough. She decided to do it almost last minute as she felt the cause was so important to her. You can hear the raspiness in her voice due to her recovering from the tour but she still managed to slay it pretty well 😊
She did a great job tbh and let’s talk about how beautiful her background sounded that night.

I am a lamb myself but please stop with the excuses. This was the beginning of her vocal decline. The reason why she didn’t want to do this was because she wasn’t allowed to have the dubbed version played over during the original telecast because all the others were going to sing live. Mariah demanded that she had hers pre-taped but the concert was supposed to be fully live. Not to mention, she only wanted to perform with Aretha, she did not want to collaborate with the other female singers. Her request on having the dubbed version played over was only granted in the home video and succeeding re-runs. This was at a time she was vulnerable and her vocals were not as good as before, that is why she enjoyed mocking the reception to Celine, because Celine obviously stood out and Mariah joined the bandwagon of R&B artists hating on Celine for having a stronger stage presence than Aretha. Mariah was the most difficult artist to work with at this point. That is why she never had as much television and award show performances because she was used to Tommy controlling the conditions of convenience for her. The VH1 team was the only production team that could stand her at that point.

The studio album version is one of my favorite songs of all time. I love this remix, I remember seeing it on vh1 when I was a kid and even then I was shook when she goes into the faster part. Love it
