Gunsmoke...nearly 30 years on both radio and television. Phenomenal.

It’s too bad that they couldn’t use William Conrad in the TV show, his deep voice and hard demeanor is perfect for his character. He was just too short and overweight for TV. But James Arness had a completely different character than Conrad, he was too soft-spoken and lacked the toughness and grit that Conrad had. I still watched the show as a kid, and there’s a few episodes on YT that I watched, I wish they had them all free to watch!

My grandmother loved gunsmoke, it was her favorite and she would never ever miss an episode. Everything stopped with everyone quiet the second humanoid came on...or else!!
So now I love listening and watching them all. Brings back those wonderful memories of shared times that I greatly miss, with Grammy . Miss you Grammy you were one special lady and still to this day bring a smile to my face and warmth to my heart every single time I think of you, may you rest in peace as you deserve it so.much.

Best line is Doc complaining that Matt never lets him work on a live patient 😎
The bad guy was Barney Phillips

Barney Phillips was on a lot of these. He was also Joe Friday's partner for a while on Dragnet.

William Conrad (Matt Dillon actor) was born and raised in Louisville, so interesting to hear the town mentioned as a place Dillon lived. Also interesting to hear Conraf say Louisville the was a non-local would.

Sometimes they didn’’t think when they wrote these, Dillon wouldn’t immediately say that the blacksmith killed him, just because he found the hammer on the ground. He would have thought, someone could have planted it to frame him, and why would he be stupid enough to use HIS blacksmith hammer and leave it there?!

  • @jeffdixon5853

Matt is so determined to be stupid in this episode.

    • @777thetruth2

Exactly! The writers do that in many episodes! Like when they catch a guy in his cabin, and Matt tells Chester to watch him, while HE goes out to the barn, and fixes a loose shoe on his horse! You know immediately, that the prisoner is going to get away from Chester! Someday I’m gonna write down every time a prisoner gets away from Chester!🤣

    Shouldn't there be cigarette advertising?

around episode 115 or 116, Chesterfield cigarettes came on as sponsor along with the new show format, including Matt's solilogue "...It's a chancy job ... and a little lonely."
