- Showreel of Saudara Sound System, created for and premiered at OzAsia Festival 2023 in Adelaide Australia.
A live on-stage Balinese gamelan percussion orchestra, soulful vocals, and hip-hop/electronic beats accompanied by hypnotic live Balinese dance. This was Saudara Sound System at OzAsia Festival 2023. This show brings together shimmering cascades of metallic sound, virtuosic rhythms and breathtaking crescendos of Gamelan DanAnda with the ethereal vocals of Balinese- and Javanese-Australian vocalists Komang Rosie Clynes ( @komangmusic4469 ) and Ria Soemardjo ( @riasoemardjo2004 ) , visiting Balinese master artists Yande King’s ( @yande_kings ) and Putu Ayu Lestari, all pulled together by the masterful production of Joelistics (Joel Ma, @oddheadmusic8344 ) and JIWA (Jocelyn Tribe and Liam Budalasia).
"A Gamelan orchestra in full swing is a mind-boggling polyrhythmic avalanche of shifting pulses, bronze plates hit with a hammer resonating into the bamboo tubes below them, each strike being quickly muted with the free hand so that the notes do not overlap and blur. Two instruments in unison playing rapid melodies with exquisite timing, while two others play lower, longer, sonorous notes breaking the complex rhythms into sections, string-like chords coming from the electronics as the giant gongs were biding their time to mark the end of each piece."
