Both of these are great old cars. Kudos to Chrysler marketing for pointing out their cars' "advantages" in comparison. The Chrysler still looks like the box the Grand Prix came in.
The base 383 2bbl 300 was $55 more than a loaded Pontiac..2023 dollars thats $540 more still nothing..But jump to a nice tire squealing and quick 383 4bbl or the Powerful 413 4 barrel version then its a few thousand more. I would buy the 300L 413 4bbl and try to get the 4 speed manual..Would be a killer ride! I had a 65 300L 413 4bbl and it blew away 1990 5.0 Mustangs back in 1990 when I owned it for a little..Sold it to a Chrysler Club Member fro $2200 in 1990,thought I made out great,oh well..I bought it for $900 all original 140,000 miles just rebuilt the carb, put 2 mufflers and brakes and used tires on it(i was very young)..
the 1965 Chryslers were the best American car - they were designed to be better built - dad had the Pontiacs and a 1965 New Yorker at the same time and there really was no comparison - did you know you could push start that car if the battery went? that said, the Pontiacs of the 1960's were mostly gorgeous
The 1965 - 1968 Chryslers were the best built full-size Chrysler's made in the post-WWII era. The Pontiac sure is nice, but I'll take the Chrysler. It's worthy to note that the Chrysler films comparing them to other brands actually point out valid facts, and the GM films bend and twist the half truths they give.
The 1965 Pontiacs were some of the most beautiful cars ever built, with the Grand Prix being the most distinctive. Not only were the Pontiacs better looking than the Chryslers, they rode on full frames with full coil suspensions. Mopars were unibodies riding on old leaf springs, which made them noisier and harsher riding. One other cool thing about the Pontiacs is that they were equipped with the first articulated windshield wipers, a feature no other GM division had at the time.
7:27 - I was a teen when my mom had her new ‘65 Chrysler Windsor hardtop. A great car and IMO a class above the Pontiac. Except perhaps for one minor deficiency, brakes. From 120 mph, which the Chrysler attained with ease, the brakes were good for one stop. After that, 15 minutes were needed for them to cool. But hey, that was just the right amount of time to have a smoke. When you need ALL the specs, have a teen test the car!
the main differences back then between the big 3 were ride quality: ford handled the worst but had the smoothest and quietest ride, mopar was the exact opposite and GM was in the middle. Styling wise there is no comparison, the 65 big Pontiacs were peak styling. The 300 looks amateurish by comparison.
All these films always talk about the square inches of brake surface area that Chryslers had over Ford and GM. However, I've yet to see one of these films ever talk about actual stopping distance.
I would have been disappointed if I were the grand prize winner. 😂😂 “..well thanks, but can I save you some money and trade this Blowpar for a Gran Prix..”
Similar but not the same...I owned both at the same time. Plymouth has a 119" wheelbase Chrysler was 224" and the Plymouth Roof is shorter and narrower.
My grandfather had a ‘65 Pontiac, their big sedan. And it was a stripper! Everything about that car screamed “Cheap!” Like the cheesy vinyl upholstery, the plain Jane design, and especially the three-on-the-column shifter. The Mopars I encountered in my youth seemed more like driver’s cars. And the people who bought them were superior drivers. Nothing over the intervening years changed my impression about either car.
THANKS WE WILL TAKE THEM BOTH ,, I NEED A TIME MACHINE ,,FOR THE LOWER PRICE,,, WE DONT SEE THEM THESE DAYS THAT MUCH!! THEY BOTH HAVE GREAT LOOKS IN EACH OF THEM.. I ONLY DRIVE OLD CARS ,, 1978 BUICK, AND 1958 DODGE CUSTOM ROYALE , SWEEP WINGS THATS MY SON'S CAR MAX 8 YR.S OLD FOR SALE AT A CAR SHOW WE COULD'NT LEAVE HE BEGGED AND TEARED ,, HE LIKES THE THE MEAN GRILL AND THE BACK WINGS,, DO A VIDEO ON 1958 DODGE FOR MY SON MAX ,,... THANKS!!!!!....
What we have here is a “dealer promo film.” A promo is a promotion. “Promo” is an abbreviated form of the word “promotion.” The idea is to help the dealer sell the automobile. The automobile the dealer will be selling is the Chrysler automobile. The more Chrysler automobiles the dealer sells the more money the dealer and the motor company will make.
Back in the day my aunt had a 65 Grand Prix & my sister had a 66 Chrysler 300 & I say that the Grand Prix was far & away better than the Chrysler 300 !!! 🙂
If you compare car prices, wages and cost of living. The price for the cheapest car today is more expensive than the highest price luxury exotic car of the 50's to 70's. If I lived in that time, with my job. I could buy a new car at least once. Possibly every few years. But in today's economy. I couldn't buy an economy car if I wanted to. Plus cars back then were built to be reliable and easy to maintain. Vehicles today are built to be disposable appliances that you can't work on without a bunch of special computer equipment and software. I was born in the wrong era
I was driving 60s and 70s cars and trucks daily until well into the 2000s. I never had problems getting old cars to start, unless they wouldn't crank because the oil was so cold (below zero). The thing is, those cars had "personality". Both as a "make", and as individuals. Especially when they got some miles on them, you had to get to know what they liked, and didn't like. As far as repairability? I was out on a drive one afternoon, when the old Thermoquad in the car Chernobyled. Three hours later, after pushing it into a parking lot, calling kid to pick me up, visit to O'Reillys to pick up an Edelbrock AVS clone, and installing it with the tools I had in my trunk, it's running again. Water pump started leaking. Less than an hour to R&R. Try doing the same with anything built since 1990.
Its amazimg how you manage to be wrong on every point you are trying to make. Today's cars are just better, and neither then, nor now can average people can afford top of the line luxury.
Actually this is true. the average Joe could trade in his car every couple of years and buy new again. Most families did this. We didn't have leases or really anything longer than 3 year financing. But, as much as I like cars of this era, they did not include a whole bunch of things we take for granted (and insist on) today. From AC to stereo to power everything - all 2020's safety features and the huge mpg advantage a 20202 car will provide while still being quicker 0-60. The real era of comparison lament was when I started driving in the 80's - cars then were dismal (!) and something like my friend's 68 New Yorker with a 440 made an 83 wheezing Olds 307 look ridiculous.
Chrysler marketing was really reaching waaaaaaayyyyyy out there on this one. Regardless of what the video wants to claim, the Pontiac was-and still is-a stylish, elegant car whereas the Chrysler is frumpy.
The Chevys were stylish and elegant. The Pontiacs went way too far with the chrome. Probably the way to go in 1965. But they don't age very well, compared to the 65-66 full size Chevys, the Toronado, Riviera, and even the ElDorado.
Oh please!!! BARF. The 1965 Pontiac full size cars are probably the best styled (overall in and out) cars of the decade. Chevy?? Oh Please! Excuse me, I have to grab a beer.@@bizjetfixr8352
Gotta differ with most of the comments. The understated styling of the Chrysler ages better than the 65 Full size Pontiacs. Not to worry. Pontiac did a lot better in 66-67. Consoles? Okay, as long as you don't have a hot wife, girlfriend, or significant other that scores low on the "crazy" scale.
I'm hardcore Mopar but ... that 300 aged faster than a beach party movie. The GP is timeless.
yup but chrysler perfected it in 1966
The Chrysler did not compete with Pontiac. LOL. That was Dodge.
There's no way I can pick one over the other.. so, I'll take one of each!
Agreed
They're both great cars but I slightly favor the Pontiac Grand Prix as the 1965 full sized Pontiac's are some of my all time favorite vehicles.
I agree Doobie! I think 65 was the best styling year before or since for all full size GMs!
John Delorean’s entire 1965 Pontiac lineup won Car and Driver award. The sleek GP was the pinnacle
What Car and Driver award is that? Do you mean Motor Trend's Car of the Year?
Yeah but without Pontiac, the plot of My Cousin Vinny would have fallen apart
Both of these are great old cars. Kudos to Chrysler marketing for pointing out their cars' "advantages" in comparison. The Chrysler still looks like the box the Grand Prix came in.
It looks too much like the Newport and New Yorker, or even the Polara.
Right while the 65 Grand Prix has beautiful Coke Bottle styling as well.
Something the Grand Prix had that the Chrysler 300 did not: More sold, 57,881 to 24,073
I'll take both! If I can only pick one.... Mopar!
It’s Mopar or no car.
I miss the days when advertisers actually talked about the product rather than the target audience 😢
The base 383 2bbl 300 was $55 more than a loaded Pontiac..2023 dollars thats $540 more still nothing..But jump to a nice tire squealing and quick 383 4bbl or the Powerful 413 4 barrel version then its a few thousand more.

I'll take the GP for styling alone! I grew up MoPar but always they looked stodgy compared to 60's GM.
The 1965 - 1968 Chryslers were the best built full-size Chrysler's made in the post-WWII era. The Pontiac sure is nice, but I'll take the Chrysler. 5:21 "a bit uncomfortable on a hot day" Major understatement - you got 2nd degree burns off vinyl seats on a hot day 😓

Pontiacs were ugly! My friend had a 74 Grand Am and later a Pontiac Aztec.
7:27 - I was a teen when my mom had her new ‘65 Chrysler Windsor hardtop. A great car and IMO a class above the Pontiac.

I'll take one of each. 😊
And with the Pontiac, you had to settle for a full perimeter frame.
I would have been disappointed if I were the grand prize winner. 😂😂 “..well thanks, but can I save you some money and trade this Blowpar for a Gran Prix..”
The 65 Chrysler 300 two door hardtop used exactly the same roof as a 65 Plymouth Fury lll.
Similar but not the same...I owned both at the same time.
Plymouth has a 119" wheelbase Chrysler was 224" and the Plymouth Roof is shorter and narrower.
@@mypronouniswtf5559 I think you mean 124".
For me I chose the 65 Pontiac Grand Prix
Mopar Or No Car even in 1965.
Pontiac for me!
'65 Pontiacs across the board 😊
My grandfather had a ‘65 Pontiac, their big sedan. And it was a stripper! Yup and you sure were gonna need that 5/50 protection plan,lol...
I would have both in the garage.
He called it the "Medium Prix"? That's pure
and how
I'll take the '65 Chrysler 300! 👍
The 300 takes it in the pleated seat and cup holder departments..
GMs in general wins always, but the 1967 Chrysler is good
THANKS WE WILL TAKE THEM BOTH ,, I NEED A TIME MACHINE ,,FOR THE LOWER PRICE,,, WE DONT SEE THEM THESE DAYS THAT MUCH!! THEY BOTH HAVE GREAT LOOKS IN EACH OF THEM.. 300 SOLD
The pontiac was still a pretty car
Joe is probably far too honest to be a car salesman - especially a Chrysler salesman! 😏
Give me the Pontiac any day
catalina and newport more affordable

Maybe you should buy a DeLorean and travel back! You'll have to get it to start first! lol

Right, especially with that beautiful Coke Bottle Styling
Pontiac looks like Chevrolet, and Chrysler looks like Dodge and Plymouth!
Chrysler unibody construction, torsion bars with leaf springs take the win! The 1940's are calling... they want their body-on-frame back, GM !
Dont biy a new car until you waych yhos video!
Chrysler wins
