Dan Uggla's low BABiP was due to the extreme shifting that other teams were deploying against him. His high BABiP after was because he started to pull the ball less.
BABiP is a very misunderstood stat that most people always attribute to luck. But luck is just a part of it, not the whole story.

    • @tls5870
      @tls5870 2 года назад +2

I think it might be less luck for hitters with timing down well enough to shoot for the gaps, fewer fly outs more line drives, and those that aim to hit bloopers over the infield for singles like Ichiro, and quick to first. More luck for sluggers and those that just swing at the ball and hope for the best.

      "that is all"
for the 2014 world series champion giants. uggla had 4 games, 12 plate appearances and no hits. yes, he really contributed to being a world series champion. but that's not all!
Gary Brown, Marco Scutaro, Travis Ishikara, Chirs Dominquez, just four of the "world series Champions" that played more games than uggla.
apparently what stark raving sports is saying is that uggla's greatest accomplishment was having his name on the roster of the world champions while contributing nothing to the championship

My favorite part of the streak is that it we all thought it ended after Game 14. After the game had ended, the official scorer changed an error to a hit, and it kept the streak alive. Another weird oddity with his streak.

To add on to this, only two second baseman have ever hit for 300+ homeruns for their career in the MLB. Jeff Kent and Robinson Cano. For reference, you’d have to go to the seventh highest mark for career homers by a right fielder (Larry Walker!) to see someone closely. And even then Walker has him beat by nine home runs. Marcus Semien is leading the way for power hitting to become a mainstream second basemen staple.

Just few hours later I see it again but I swing and clicked play. I have to be clear that I found your investigation accurate. The MLB video selected as your fillers worked very smoothly and natural whenever the film highlights matching the narrators storytelling, I congratulate you my kind Sir on this mini documentary. I did not expect to find hours on hours of top quality of work and yet be so respectfully uplifting at a time when nothing was going right. But its like joe dirt said "Life is too short to waste doing nothing make everyday count because we don't know when we'll leave this world. Cherish every moment you have with those loved ones". Give it all you have to the game and you'll never regret a play just the learning experience. BUT!!! Friends at ESPN, Braves fans or any fans and other players will have ready a thousand Giff's up and shared ducking to miss a ball not close by. life's a garden so dig it-Joe Dirt.. I heard once that "We as people can only sink down on bad luck only as far as our knees will let us fall". In closing, To each and every tuber who took the time to watch 17.49 min to remember the excitement felt with each bat who ensured to give it all everyday to become a pro baseball player. The contract timing and the downfall was a fluke, 14-18 hours a day dedicated to improvement. The fire that burns to be brighter and bigger at ea. at bat come from watching 3 GOAT's in a row. All I remember about Dan Uggla was the Braves radio call guys saying pass a diving Uggla when the ball is hit his way.

Because his name is DAN UGGLA!!!!

Always liked Uggla and he was an exciting player because of the power. Considering he started his career at 26, he did extremely well for himself. I imagined there was some desperate fantasy baseball person who picked up Uggla from the waiver wire right before his hit streak.

Dan Uggla was so good against my Braves when he was with Florida we traded for him so we didn't have to play against him.

He's from Columbia TN and I'm from about 30 miles away albeit a lot older.. I was active duty and had leave time, I walked into Tootsies and was standing there with my Red Sox hat on.. I moved and walked up to the stage, standing there I felt this guy looking at me smiling, I looked at him and he said you really gonna stand by me with a f**king Redsox hat on? I looked and was like dude I know you but I can't remember and it hit him. He started laughing then looked at my t shirt which had my unit name on it. He asked and I said yeah, he bought me a beer and as people began to notice who he was they wanted pics, autographs and so on. I'm a huge bb fan and wanted at least a Pic but people actually began being crazy.. he turned and said you guys want Jay's? he's a true hero.. that got people thinking I was with him and asking me if I could get them this n that. He's a really nice guy and I was surprised that he wasn't as big as I had thought but I still have the Miller lite he bought for me.

One of my claims to fame is I'm a curse for the Braves despite being an Atlanta native. I've attended a lot of losses. I've seen the seasons end in person too many times. And I was at game #34 where Dan Uggla's hit streak ended, a 6-4 loss to the Cubs.

I grew up a Brewer fan and even went to a Baseball Card convention where Rob Deer was signing autographs during his days in Milwaukee. It's insane how similar Dan Uggla's season in 2013 was to Rob Deer's in 1991. Let's compare the 2.
    BA: Uggla .179 Deer .179
    AB: Uggla 448 Deer 448
    Hits: Uggla 80 Deer 80
    SO's: Uggla 171 Deer 175
    HR's Uggla 22 Deer 25
    BB's: Uggla 77 Deer 89
    RBI: Uggla 55 Deer 64
    OBP: Uggla .309 Deer .314

As a life long Braves fan 40 years this year. I watched this all in real time and was baffled by his streak the entire time. But it never redeemed him in the eyes of my fandom and I’m glad they got rid of his Uggla ass.

Damn you’d think those shots of his homers were taken during covid….nope. That’s just Miami baseball. There literally is not market for it there which is kind of baffling considering it’s Latin American heritage and their love of the game.

Man, that was a great hitting streak. Signing him to an extension was a huge mistake, but this hitting streak alone saved it from being one of the biggest blunders in Braves history.

I'm a Braves fan, and I vividly remember the game that broke his streak. He was robbed of a hit on an amazing over-the-shoulder-catch by the Cubs' Darwin Barney, who sprinted with his back to the plate to barely catch it.
