Excellent source of information that I was just searching for. Thank you for an excellent way of presenting a bit of history on the 5th Special Forces Vietnam War era insignia.
As an alumnus from the fifth group and a grandson of another man that was in fifth grew, David Theodore Henderson I do appreciate your hard work in accuracy and portraying the heritage of our patches and insignia. God bless Sergeant, first class Du Bois.
MAJOR Errors concerning the MIKE Force patches. The patch labeled “C-4 MIKE Force” is pocket patch of the II Corps MIKE Force. The II Corps MIKE Force, Det. B-20 was located in Pleiku w/ Bns. In Kontum and Ban Me Thout Thanks, // Tom “Stumpy” Burke// II Corps MIKE Force, 1969-70
My father, Mag Donald Gene Walker, was with the 5th SFG in Vietnam. Served with the Montanarnds and did some time in Laos.Previous with the 501 101st Airborne.
3:35; the patches on the left are still the combination of patches used to denote assignment to a Special Forces unit. The only difference between the Vietnam era SF soldiers and current Special Forces qualified soldiers is the Department of the Army award Special Forces Tab patch. So the Accurate depiction of a 2023 Special Forces qualified soldier is the Arrowhead Patch, black and gold Airborne Tab and the teal and gold Special Forces Tab. In order of precedence, a soldier who is both ranger and special forces qualified wears his Special Forces Tab worn over his Ranger Tab.
The current unit patch is still the arrowhead with airborne tab. Only qualified personnel are allowed the special forces tab! SOG = studies & observation group. Nice try.

I like the way you build the rack bu starting at the beginning and adding medals as time progresses during the campaign. Keep that going.
