Try out some yellow shooting glasses or yellow safety glasses i find it helps a lot to highlight the contours of the snow much easier to see the ditches
I drive gas trucks up the mountain in Colorado and I keep my windshield as cold as possible. I will blast my floor heater and drive with my windows open, the colder the windshield is the better. it prevents the snow from melting and then turning into ice on the windshield.
o wow , you got loads of snow still , yes you must have had enough of it by now , how you can see where the road is i dont know , great work there Wes , love your snow ploughing , sure your be glad when its gone
While I was in the Air Force, as a crew chief, I took my aircraft up to Eilison AFB AK. It was 60 degrees below zero when we landed, and warmed up to 40 below, six weeks later. The only place that was plowed down to pavement, was the runway. All the roads and parking ramps, were hard packed snow, about a foot deep. They just painted new lines on the snow, when they were no longer visible. The aircraft and engines had to be heated around the clock. They were masters at handling snow.
About tires, the ones that come on loaders in the USA are for construction, mostly dry dirt. They are terrible in snow. In winter I put Nokian winter tires on my L60H, they cannot be beat...the Finn’s know how to make a great snow tire for heavy equipment. Nokian also makes an awesome puncture resistant forestry/brush tire for wheel loaders that’s amazing.
V plows are awesome! Had one on the JD road grader with a wing. Late 80's probably or early 90's, big storm and the JD with the V led the way for Wenona Ambulance to Streator hospital with IDOT cleaning up the crumbs and winging back.
@@WesFarms you are so very welcome and did you know that’s what kind of work I do by with the snow shovel during the winter here where I live in Goldendale Washington
You guys need to bench plow your banks. Here in Eastern Canada when the banks hit about 3 to 4 ft they run the plow in the shoulder with the wing stuck out about 2 ft off the ground at the front and rear and it creates a ledge or bench effect. Pushes the snow way off in the ditch safely keeps the plow on the rd and provides a ledge or bench to flip new snow onto. Im very sure your aware of this but it looks like it could help you. Grader is definitely the beast for that job. Love your channel. Best wishes from the great white north
Carry a propane torch with you (one a plumber would use to solder copper pipes together). The brass fitting on the air dryer, usually a 90* fitting. Has the hose that runs from the compressor to the dryer. In that fitting it will form an ice plug stopping air from building or really slowing it down. A lot of times you’ll know because the pop off valve on the compressor will be going off to not over pressure the system. It does that because it has warm air from the compressor that rapidly cools off and condensates before the dryer and that condensation hits a -20 brass fitting and freezes Hope this helps
Years ago they had heated wiper blades and there was a system that bolted on to the wiper arm that vibrated on demand the blades to knock off the ice. Check you heater on the air dryer, both the hot lead and the ground, grounds are often forgotten. I don't miss working on the plows and salt trucks.
Great Video as always. I like plowing when it's colder as the snow is easier to plow, and it seems that the snow isn't as greasy as when it's close to freezing. It's great that you have the nice wheel loader available to hit the extreme areas as well as when one of the trucks is not being cooperative!
You do a great job! I farm and I'm also a road commissioner in east central ILL. I'm not running again and was hoping to get through this winter without a big snow......
Could you put the GPS systems on your equipment with auto steer? Then in the warmer weather you could map out all the roads so that no matter how deep the snow and totally covered the road is you can plow faster and safer.
Since you have a plow that will push left or right , try to push the snow down wind so that you don’t make a berm , ie snow fence to cause snow to fall onto the road . If you happen to be creating a snow bank in the middle of the road you can push it on off on the return trip
As far as not using the defrost, the best way is to make a deflector that will prevent the defrost to directly hit the windshield, using it this way will keep the windshield cold and allow the wipers to keep the snow off without melting it first. The movement of air within the cab will keep it clear.
You need a blower to move the high shoulders. On a light windy day you can send light fluffy snow far away. I’m running a Gritt on my Volvo L60H… it was a bit expensive transporting from Canada but it’s been a good blower. For my application where shoulders can get high on rural roads, it’s a quick way of removing them. I plow 17 miles of my own farm roads and surrounding roads for the state. I also run a Schulte front PTO on a Fendt 828 which works great also.
I'll take the light fluffy powder over the wet mushy concrete snow anyday. always amazing to see how other areas deal with snow. our township here in my area of PA wont break out the loaders unless we get 2+ ft at once. generally they run ford f550s with v plows, state highways done by DOT
have you thought of looking for a used loader mounted snowblower? that you could use to blow the snow piles on the side of the road into the field instead om using the loader sideways and blocking the road.
A tip for the snow on the sides is go through after the storm with your wing slightly higher than the pile and knock the piles down that what our towns do and im surprised you guys don't use snow fences to block the drifts
Heres a solution for your pay loader get a snowblower attachment it has its own diesel motor and will make short work of moving those banks blow it straight into the fields . we use them here in the city to remove snowbanks .
Town of Schroeppel in NY use to get big 7 to 8 foot wooden stakes and spray paint the top 8 to 12 inches with fluorescent orange. They went around installing them in the fall and took them down in spring. Made for good guides of where the edge of the road was when plowing
When we get a lot of snow here in Vermont, I have observed the town plow trucks using just the wing plow to push back the snow on the side of the road. What they do is lift up wing plow to push back about the top half of piles of along the roads. We don’t get much drifting, so this may not help you.
if you dont wing it out or push the snow out as far as you can the first time you'll always have issues with snow "storage" also if you plow the majority of the snow to the downind of the prevaling wind ,you will find out it drifts in less. also important to mow your ditches in the fall ," the snow will be as deep as the weeds are tall" a well mowed ditch wont stop any snow
Thanks for sharing and for your services. It would be hell for somebody to move into the neighborhood and not be intimately familiar with where the heck the roads are. I would imagine having 20 years of experience and transplanting to a new location would be hell. Interested to know your thoughts on large snow blowers
Well if your wing plow is adjustable to go up and down level you raise wing up go half way up side winrow pile and drop plow down a notch and push and go now creating a shelf for future snow simple I do it all the time
can they put out snow stakes along all those roads that could stay up all year maybe? or, maybe they could give you a GPS HUD that could show you exactly where the road is when its in view and adjusted for your eye, line of sight.
Thats only a light dusting there buddy try coming to Alberta 🇨🇦 where thats everyday. that is a nice day in the winter soccer moms could drive in what u have on the ground there lol
A friend of mine installed blade shakers on his plow trucks, www.wipershaker.com/product/wiper-shaker-dual-motor-kit/, I still get out and knock the ice of once in a while like you do, although I’ve been thinking about trying a set.
So strange. Do you not have snow pegs at the roadside? I thought such were everywhere. On all roads in Sweden, including private roads, there are orange rods with reflectors about 100 feet apart. They are placed in mid-September and removed in mid-May. I guess you have a lot of snow every winter and would need such , but it may be easier to get such poles when the state pays.
Which part of east central Illinois are you from? I'm from central Illinois and I'm not sure how nobody had driven on the roads you are plowing. Every road around here always gets traveled before I go out plowing
Omg you must be new at plowing we have 6 foot banks here in Northern Wisconsin we push everything back with a grader them tiny little banks ain't nothing and put radial snow tires on that loader it will never slip also put a few big scoops of salt or sand in the box you won't get stuck as easy and snow is not deep till you have over 4 feet
Try out some yellow shooting glasses or yellow safety glasses i find it helps a lot to highlight the contours of the snow much easier to see the ditches

beautiful snow
I like the snow plow videos!! Keep them coming.
Like you I'm getting tired of plowing snow! Ready for spring to arrive.
Awesome videos and I'm loving these videos of snow. But like you I can't wait till warmer weather.
Amen!
Awesome plow!
Better you guys get the snow and cold. Been nice here on the coast of Maine. Good video keep them coming
I enjoy getting atleast one good snow a year, we had a few and im ready for spring.
ditto
I hope your township appreciates you guys. Its alot of work and hours to do what you guys do. Keep up the good work

Thanks for the plow video. Warming up and melting now. Guest we’ll deal with Snirt now
I can't imagine how much water will come from all of that snow! I say that because i live in Florida. Great Video!
Wes, you do an excellent job of plowing! You leave it neat! Goood video!
Thank you!

Huge fan of the blizzard😁😁😁❄️❄️🌪 once in a decade stuff right there..we got 10-12 up in the mitten. lol now it’s pushing 50 and waters everywhere 🙄
woo hoo low 50;s today in central illinois, you can take a break from the plowing , great video

We made it to 51 here in Peoria,Il today, what a week will bring!
Just found your channel. Good content. Subscribed.

We don’t usually get enough snow to justify a blower
Is That An Illinois Safety Sticker On Your Windshield?
Yes
Plowing on roads you cannot see is quite scary and requires a tremendous amount of skill.
the temperature here is 40 to 50 all our snow is melted we had 9 inches of snow.
If you have a wing for the grader you can shelf the larger banks it will give room for more snow .
usually the wing on a grader is a lot larger (longer) than the truck wing it does a great job of shelfing ,
You folks have some awfully nice equipment! My townships equiment is all from the 90s and rusted to hell.
We’re pretty fortunate!

Great video.
Use the graders wing or plow truck wing to cut the top half of the bank. Thats what we do up north in Canada
Also I have seen trucks take the side plow and raise it up to cut the snow banks down and push it back so the bank doesn’t keep growing into the road
A tip for the snow on the sides is go through after the storm with your wing slightly higher than the pile and knock the piles down that what our towns do and im surprised you guys don't use snow fences to block the drifts
U need to ridge the snow in the fields and if push comes to shove u need to level banks with a Dozer ( from Canada )
If we ever need a dozer to push snow, we have bigger problems to deal with

Snowblowers would be handy at times, we just don’t get enough snow (most years) to justify having one. We also have a very limited township budget.
Try amber sunglasses, they help you see the edge in the plowed snow and at night
Never heard of that
Use the wing on the grader raised up to shelf it
We’ve done that
You should get a snowblower attachment ..when it gets high on the side just use that
If I didn’t live on the other side of the world I would pay you to let me help!!
Our township converted ours to fit degelman mounts and one of the farmers has a packing setup to run it in a pinch
Well if your wing plow is adjustable to go up and down level you raise wing up go half way up side winrow pile and drop plow down a notch and push and go now creating a shelf for future snow simple I do it all the time
We usually do this with the grader so we don’t slide in the ditch with the trucks
Payloader fixed yay big beast is fixed
Try turning off defrost on windshield it works then you won't get ice build up
Let it snow

What would it coast to get a kinda small snow blower for one of thos
you need to add air line antifreeze to the system
Leave side windows cracked a little and throw a towel over the defroster vents
never smack the wipers against the windshield..Take the three minutes and break the ice off with your hand..
Explain
You have a Hiel dump truck
Install heated wiper blades
V plow would have made all the difference on that truck aswell.
