Jerry Pritchett is one of the greatest deadlifters of all time. He has been right at the top for nearly a decade. It's a little sad though, because there always seems to be that one guy that barely beats him.
JF Caron seems to be the best deadlifter according to this video. He's a damn beast. No hesitation or struggle at all. Even when the bar got stuck on his pants. He needs to make a youtube channel. Underrated af. They're all strong beasts though.
Man, Brian busting out a better produced and better delivered show than SBD/CBS can. Really well done, thank you Brian Shaw and everyone on his team for putting this together and getting the fans the strongman content they want
This was so hype to watch live. The way that JF and Jerry were head and shoulders ahead of everyone else and then kept lifting weight after weight. What a showing
It would seem that lifting that weight with tires is easier than with steel plates for the same weight. Perhaps because the tires are higher off the ground.
Saw a really cool interview with mark henry where he was taken back with how welcoming everyone in strong man was when he was at the first Arnold classic, he said he was use to treating everyone as his enemy and instead when he was there, they were cheering him on. My thoughts are most strong men are weight nerds and get super excited for people pushing the boundaries. So they are inclined to want everyone to excel in order to set the bar higher for themselves. But that's just my guess.
I wish he made enough money from strongman to not have to work a full time job. I feel that's been holding him back quite a bit as much as injury has. With lockdowns, he seems to have been injury free and well rested/trained. He did awesome this event and WSM. Working man's hero.
JF Caron at the 1050 lb mark pulls it so fast, it’s like a 5 rep lift for him. His lower back must be so incredibly strong- like iron. He makes us Canadians proud.
That would be great! Really airy foam. They would also carve the foam into GIANT weight plates (painted and everything), and the competitors get up on a building rooftop (or a skinny tower), and that is where they lift the bar from (the foam plates would be touching the ground, and going up into the sky). The wind could be a problem outside though...
I think Brian’s stance hurts him in this event. Wide grip and stance reduces the amount of bend in the bar and makes the effective range of motion a lot higher. Look at Novikov’s form, very narrow grip and stance makes the bar bend as much as possible and the very end of the bar only barely comes off the ground. Interesting strategy.

Speed off the bottom is definitely a mistake with a very "whippy" bar like this. You want to take all the slack out of the bar first and then pull with max effort. A very narrow hand position is optimal too. The more narrow the stance the more the bar will bend. When all the whip is taken out of the bar it's now much higher up on the thighs and becomes more like a rack-pull.
I think possibly in a few years. I think the ASC is better because of the qualifying so you get the absolute best guys there, but this was a great show and addition to Strongman. I'd definitely like to see the Stoltmans give it a go and put on a show.
@@sethticer5108 Yes but if its gonna become a big show, it can't be so soon after WSM because guys won't peak properly for this show after putting everything into the major shows. He was smart having a very narrow stance: when the last tire is added, it gets slightly easier because the weight takes longer to all come off of the floor.
@@GreatNeal85 I see, that makes sense thanks for that. Although having such a narrow stance must mean he uses less of his legs and more of his back which surely makes it harder to lift even if some of the weight is mitigated by the end tires taking longer to leave the ground. @Darth Dredd Imagine you train overhead press and you´re good but never trained log... one day you do the log and just casually smash the world record, two times.
This is super nice to watch. The visual quality is great, the post production editing makes it all so smooth and and makes sure you don't miss anything and it doesn't drag out forever (especially if there is an unexpected situation and the such). I like that we can see the commentators as they talk, also without having them permanently in a box on the screen in the corner where they''re too small to really see their facial expressions and stuff anyway. I also like how there's enough time to give a proper 2nd try at things. Also how the resetters are some pretty strong looking guys that don't have to struggle too much and can be of proper use if something goes wrong. I also prefer it without the crowd, and indoors. The environment seems more friendly and close, and more focused. Everyone there is in the know with strongman, which probably creates a cool atmosphere amongst each other. Indoors is nice for the cameras and the viewers as far as too much or too little lighting, and doesn't introduce annoying variables for competing, like wind. Also the temperature can be nicer and more consistent from yer to year. The ground surface can be more consistent and sometimes less slippery. etc. etc. I suppose the only thing I'm pondering, is if Brian is more likely to choose events and weights and "reps" that he is better at, just by virtue of that being more inline with what he thinks strongman should be (which is something I agree with. I think there's currently way too much stamina/endurance and speed involved with weights that should be heavier. So the less strong, smaller speedy guys have an advantage in those cases, oddly). Or maybe the specific events aren't/won't be in his hands, but rather, the people who decide this, would just follow a philosophy/guideline. I dunno the details, I wasn't paying enough attention over the course of this! OH! and the name, weight and event, etc. should pop up on the bottom left corner before every lift, for a little bit. If you watch Larry Wheels' videos, you'll see what I'm talking about. It really helps to keep up with what is happening, and it serves as a way to jump around in the video to find certain lifts again, rather than waiting for a commentator to say it. Also timestamps are hugely important (even if they're only external to the video).
@@omarreyes6142 The figure eight straps can allow them to almost completely let go of the bar with the palms of their hands, therefore making the lift just ever-so-slightly shorter range of motion as the bar will hang maybe half an inch below where it would with regular straps
I’m glad since that’s a rule at the Arnold too. No suit and no figure 8 straps. And this way we can objectively compare to Zydrunas’ hummer tire record as well. Although on that day Big Z did look like he could pull 50 more pounds too
I'm really happy this event happened. I heard about the idea in the past, but didn't know if it'd come to fruition. I really like the number of staff that are present also. Very professional and safe.
@@supernoodles908 you're right it could, but if I'm going to be totally honest change the name and market it as an event that would position you towards WSM or something to rival the Arnold Classic. Having a similar name will go against anything positive. Brian Shaw is without doubt one of the top 10 maybe even 5 to have ever been involved in strongman. It just seemed a little gimmicky and bias towards what Brian would be able to win, not to mention his own sponsors. If he hangs up his wraps anytime soon and with the right team, that event could in time be something to look forward too.
Congrats to JF and Jerry for giving us a show. That was incredible! Big thank you for Brian for putting this out there and giving these guys a chance to regain some steam after this year. Most of all I'm glad to see JF really starting to catch the wind at his back, he's really shining lately! Cheers!
This was well done. I like how the camera is able to frame the competitors properly. They fill the frame while simultaneously letting us see the judges calls. Add in some graphic overlay to show some information and it is perfect. I'm glad to see that there is still going to be a place for heavy competition. WSM seems to be trying to emulate crossfit now.
Imagine being the dope that uploads some bootleg footage from the event? Brian shows up at your house, asks really nicely if you can take the video down, smiles, has some rice, and you pee yourself.
It will once Shaw retires because I'm sure he'll put a ton of focus on it then. Arnold might even help him advertise it, who knows, competitive or not. He needs to broadcast it differently, go on JRE, and also have it take place further from the holidays, I mean plane tickets probably cost a ton more for competitors between Thanksgiving and Christmas, right? I don't think a strongman has even been on JRE, just bodybuilders. It'd be easy for him to get on there. But more advertising=more sponsors=more money. I think they'll have a lot more sponsor money next time. I'm not sure what the right date should be because the Arnold Classic is in February-March, but definitely have it in winter. Heck I guess it can't be January because of the new year..so I guess it's gotta be early December. haha But yeah, I like the way the competition is done, in a gym with the competitors and no spectators. An athlete family environment or PR environment. Different from WSM and the Arnold. But can it survive without ticket sales? Maybe that's what will change after COVID fucks off? I hope they don't change it.
@@thermomeds oooh that's right, I don't know how I forgot that, but he's a bit different, like if a 4x WSM went on there promoting the sport and his own competition a week or so before the Classic it could be big
He didn't just ask if Thor was strong. He asked if he was a "legit strongman" which shows you how little research he does on guests or their fields (if it's not MMA he is clueless). Because when he asked thay question Thor had already won his title, and had been on the podium 8 times.
Holy shit. This is the first real footage I've seen, please make this a broadly available ppv either on youtube or another free platform at a 15-30$ price tag. This will blow up beyond belief especially at a lower price point. As much as I love you Brian and it is literally called the Shaw classic I feel like the easier you make this available(even for a higher price)the more people will buy it. I'm not trying to throw shade on your website but you're going to lose a substantial number people when you ask them to switch platforms or even channels to watch something. Just look at youtubers with 2nd and 3rd channels. If you had made this strictly available as a ppv on RUclips it would've added a large number of people to that list of Viewers, myself included.
I really believe this is the start of something great for the Strongman sport. You can see how it being put on by a competitor like themselves, things were more relaxed, friendly and a real effort was made to take care of any needs the lifters had ( based on Brian's experience). I see sponsorships in the future which is great, as long as they don't lose this casual, supportive atmosphere. I think most find this format, even at a base level, so much more enjoyable than a theatrical production of events like the Arnold. Keep up the good work, it was a great show. Also, more behind the scenes stuff like interviews or the competitors going out in town, eating, shopping, etc.. so people can identify and relate to lesser known or not so lesser known that many are unfamiliar with outside of their own nations.

Luke Stoltman just became my favorite strongman. Also, he should look into recording hypeman soundbytes. He could make a killing on those.
I'm glad they're using regular straps instead of figure 8 straps
Thor & Eddie both used figure 8s
What's the difference?
@@omarreyes6142 The figure eight straps can allow them to almost completely let go of the bar with the palms of their hands, therefore making the lift just ever-so-slightly shorter range of motion as the bar will hang maybe half an inch below where it would with regular straps
Thanks!
I’m glad since that’s a rule at the Arnold too. No suit and no figure 8 straps. And this way we can objectively compare to Zydrunas’ hummer tire record as well. Although on that day Big Z did look like he could pull 50 more pounds too
Epic deadlift battle! It's insane the weight these guys are pulling.
I just so love the respectful affection of Nordics talking about mountains, snow and cold
That was amazing. JF Caron, man...incredible. This is a fantastic event, Brian! Thank you for all the hard work you and your team put into it!
You can tell Luke truly loves this sport and supports his competition. True heart on that lad!
Luke Stoltman still the best hype man in the sport. I feel like hearing him yell at you gives an extra 100lbs at least.
Yup it's just science
His voice is pure testosterone and tren. Listening to his rumbling voice makes me want to lift my own house.
How can you not lift something when Luke is yelling at you. Id run through a wall if that dude told me to.
The Highland Oak
But would you leave a perfect outline of your body like in cartoons
That fucking back smack for Caron before he gets going.
That smack would probably kill me 😂😂
That’s just a wake up smack in Canada
Gotta get that Maple Syrup flowing through his veins.
it would rupture a lung on the average human being for sure maybe internal bleeding , also maybe slip disc , or spinal
It looked like he wasn’t expecting it
The dude did it so non-chalantly too it killed me. Like, "Oh yea, of course Caron.. You need a *good* smack, here you go.".
I'm really happy this event happened. I heard about the idea in the past, but didn't know if it'd come to fruition. I really like the number of staff that are present also. Very professional and safe.
This event solidifies that Brian is indeed the future of StrongMan.
Brian Shaw is good and easily recognisable but, the Arnold Classic will always be the way of finding out who is the true WSM.
In my opinion.
Agreed
@@jasonrankin5592 probably but this could be a seriously great event
@@supernoodles908 you're right it could, but if I'm going to be totally honest change the name and market it as an event that would position you towards WSM or something to rival the Arnold Classic. Having a similar name will go against anything positive. Brian Shaw is without doubt one of the top 10 maybe even 5 to have ever been involved in strongman. It just seemed a little gimmicky and bias towards what Brian would be able to win, not to mention his own sponsors. If he hangs up his wraps anytime soon and with the right team, that event could in time be something to look forward too.
@@jasonrankin5592 I totally agree with you on that one
Congrats to JF and Jerry for giving us a show. That was incredible! Big thank you for Brian for putting this out there and giving these guys a chance to regain some steam after this year. Most of all I'm glad to see JF really starting to catch the wind at his back, he's really shining lately! Cheers!
I'm so impressed by the production quality here! This is incredible for a small team. Great job to everyone involved here. Holy smokes!
Thanks, Brian am headed over to purchase the shaw classic
Won't be disappointed, my man. Amazing show!
Having a Scottish accent just makes the hype tenfold!
Awesome lifts from everyone here. Well done JF for the world record. Well deserved!
Seeing Brian's boys go to grab him after that 1040 pull was wholesome af. They're the spotters you want
They made him hold it for a while too
isn’t 1085 the record??
Jerry was so close, if he gets the chance again within the next couple of years without any major injury he can get it
He just needed someone to give a back smack before going like Caron got lol
Pritchett almost had it! He definitely has it in him. Still in 2016 he probably would’ve done even another weight jump after that one
bro he was far from that last one. Love Jerry tho, cool guy
@@gummixx6885 he was not far from it at all, almost had it locked out
Say it with me, people: Annual event! Annual event! Annual event!
Annaul event !!
Annual event
I think he confirmed doing it again next year
If he does, I hope it keeps going
Annual event please!
Annual event!
Best editing, filming, commentating of any strongman, weightlifting or Fitness comp. Well done on this outstanding production!
Fantastic to hear the athletes cheer each on. Brilliant sportsmanship
I see Brian; I click and hit the like button
100% great stuff .
Damm that was a hell of a show. Shout out to jerry and JF. Also shoutout to the Texas kid, guy was beasting, lots of potential.
Big respect to Brian, no BS, no stupid PPE, or making people keep a fake distance so it looks good on camera.
Imagine being the dope that uploads some bootleg footage from the event? Brian shows up at your house, asks really nicely if you can take the video down, smiles, has some rice, and you pee yourself.
he made me buy a rice cooker and now i look foward to waking up in the morning rice never been easier/cheaper from uk sorry for bad spanish
@@MrIzzy452 that was English
@@lordcrayzar Oh really? I didn't notice.
I hope the shaw classic becomes big like the arnolds
Heck I guess it can't be January because of the new year..so I guess it's gotta be early December. haha
But yeah, I like the way the competition is done, in a gym with the competitors and no spectators. An athlete family environment or PR environment. Different from WSM and the Arnold. But can it survive without ticket sales? Maybe that's what will change after COVID fucks off? I hope they don't change it.
@@wheelmanstan Robert Oberst has been on JRE.
@Darth Dredd Meh, Chuck Norris is so old he can't fight sleep.
This was one of the most incredible battles ever. JF and Jerry took us to church!
Amen to that
@Darth Dredd Legendary.
@Darth Dredd 2017 WSM deadlift was also amazing battle.
Trey easy getting 1080 if he didn’t literally take every weight jump before
Yeah. Those things def add up Think Jerry has a better go on his last lift if he didn't pause after the down signal on prior lifts
@@ReallyStrongGuy ah yes, the gloating pause. A downfall of many a Strongman.
This event was awesome. So much force and sportsmanship in one room. Hope this pans out to be a yearly event!
"Athletes take position, athletes ready, timers ready. *whistle*"
So were just not gonna talk about brian skipping his intro
Probably thought it would take away from the competitors if he included it.
This video was clearly targeted to the events, not his personal events.
@@televisionhighlights8730 bro what? Nah man. It's his yt channel intro. He showcased the guys regardless
JF looked unstoppable, and I believed he was
So strong !
Looking like a damn superhero!
His upper body is rediculous in strength
@Darth Dredd Back is included in upper body lol, so is core.
Thank you for sharing that event with us Brian! It was one of the best of 2020 and is something that every strongman fan should watch.
35:47 "LET'S GO CHAMP" or "LET'S GO JERRY"? shannon briggs i hear ya
Max is a dynamic strongman. It'll get real interesting when his deadlift catches up
Already watched the whole show, but I needed to watch this part again, especially those last few lifts!
JF's and Jerry's secret: wear a tank top
You part of the Tank Top Army?
I need a audio of Luke yelling COME ON!! LETS GOO!!! The guy is the best!! What a awesome event that was! Hats off to everyone who put this on!!!
36:38 Yes a 12,000lb lift is damn good
I caught that too. Lol
Wow just wow... at the beginning i was laying on the couch.. at 10 min i was sitting.. at 20 i was standing and by 30 min i was pacing around yelling at my TV! Unreal!
weird
@@brycesucks Hope your life turns around bro!
I am driving a delivery route yelling at my phone like a dickhead, lmao. No shame.
@@gregpickett8816 Exactly! 🤣
Yeah for a clip it was certainly everything we could ask for and more haha
I love that when they struggle neither the judges or competitors cant help themselves but scream at them. Such a tight community.
thank you for putting this competion together and for releasing this deadlift madness on youtube! the only thing i would like to see improved on for the next year would be some kind of graphic with the weight before the guys are lifiting. Stay great Brian and crew
Novikovs stance is really narrow, aswell as his grip.
Really interesting.
I have the same deadlift stance. It’s all about levers.
@Darth Dredd Nah, Novikov has great form. He’s just built for a narrow stance.
Jerry looks like he would be the guy to yell “O’Doyle rules” after making a lift
LOL!
Hahahahah
😂😂😂😂😂
JF just standing at the end like he had been for a brisk walk ........ unreal performance from everyone
His deadlift is just from another world. His technique makes it look effortless.
I think Brian is the right guy to run strongman as it should be run..
No he would make it all Pay Per View.
It should be free bro
@@joebot9309 why should it be free? Hes paying out of pocket and giving all the PPV money back to the athletes. He's not running ads on the stream or anything either. Nothing gets done for free.
Such an incredible event and a battle for the ages. It's so cool seeing these guys in a more intimate setting and hear them really encouraging each other (especially Luke Stoltman and his thunderous voice)... amazing. I really can't see the Shaw Classic not becoming an annual thing after this awesome inaugural competition.
Crazy!!!!! Brian Shaw, you are the man!!!!! Thanks for putting this out. Amazing competition!
