Thanks for the update. Hopefully you’ll get some fruiting this year. I’m In Southern CA zone 9b. It was cold and frosty here also. I’m in low desert. My March 2022 planted Blue Java (20 feet high) made it with one leaf. Double Mahoi didn’t make it but have two of its pups in a pot 1 foot each. My raja puri (9 feet high) March 2022 planted made it through like a champ. My Oct 2022 orinoco and dwarf namwah made it too both 3 feet high. I need some fruiting this year to keep me motivated to keep trying to grow bananas in a challenging climate. I was frost blanketing them all winter so I need a reward for all my fussing. Lol
Sounds like you have a great chance with all those that made it. Keep me updated how it goes. I feel the pain. Got a lot of bananas last year but they weren’t able to ripen
Great start to the season, they are all looking really good! Looking forward to future updates! I've just started to harden off some of my bananas that have been overwintering indoors.
@@georgiafarmingwithfluevog I have a bunch of different varieties way too many to list lol, but some include Rajapuri, Orinoco, Manzano, Dwarf Namwah and Dwarf Brazilian. I am in the UK, so far from an ideal climate for bananas lol. We tend to have mild winters, but with cool summer temperatures, so bananas grow much slower in my climate. We're roughly equivalent to a zone 8b/9a in my location. This winter was particularly cold though, I experimented by leaving a Dwarf Orinoco in the ground but it looks like it hasn't made it. My Musa Basjoo has stayed alive with just some fleece around it.
@@PeterEntwistle Awesome. Yeah I had a rajapuri in savannah at my last house but didn't bring one with me. You should look into using Air root pruning pots to grow in so the roots will self air prune and not get rootbound. I make them for my bananas using landscape weed barrier fabric sewn into a large bag that fits inside half of a plastic 55 gal barrel. You just leave a 1" gap or less between the barrel wall and grow bag, and also make some sort of raised floor under the growbag in the barrel so there's an air gap underneath as well. As soon as the roots sense air, they stop growing and self prune which triggers growth of new roots back at the plant which are way more efficient at nutrient uptake that the primary roots and the whole pot will fill with roots with no circling, rootbound, and no need to repot.
Thanks for the update! I wish you all the best for this season and lots of fruit! 🍌 😃 I saw in videos that the best mulch for banana plants, are their own leaves. Do you know if this is true? Maybe it could help them on the long term. All the best! ✌️

Will my super dwarf banana produce in a year? How old is yours? Your double banana will produce this year? that’s crazy how fast it will produce. Will I get a flower from my Orinocos this year? Or no?
I only say I think it will fruit because I got it last year in may and it fruited. So it can only get faster in my mind. My truly tiny is a year old now and only like a foot tall hahaha. But it seems even smaller and more congested in growth than your super dwarf. So i bet yours is faster to fruit than mine. Orinocos are fast growers, but also on the taller side. I bet you get a flower at least. Just make sure you don't leave too many pups on the same root ball. Focus all the energy on one
@@frostylonewolf1700 they fruit at only 5-6 feet tall. You might get a flower at least. When you say 4 feet, do you mean just the trunk or with the leaves?
hey, I'm about to plant a banana plant for the first time and the spot I've picked out is where the ash from the grill used to get dumped so there is like 4 inches of ash on top of the soil. How much ash is too much? Should I remove all of it or all but 1 inch or is it fine to just leave it all, could it actually be good to leave all of it?
This would be great for the bananas. Just mix it in with the soil as you plant. Probably would not keep more than 1 inch on top of the soil but maybe just move it to the side and slowly add it back in as it breaks down

Checked last night. The leaf you saw in the video was damaged by cold and I had cut it. A full sized leaf is coming out now. Probably another 5-10 leaves before fruiting if I had to guess. Which will be good to have some real estate for the sun to help ripen the bananas
It's about 8 feet tall just the stem. Leaves bring it to like 11 maybe. I think it may fruit in June. I'm real happy with the progress so far. It is finally starting to speed up some. The last leaf that just came out looks completely healthy and gained some vertical spacing from the bunched up ones
Got cold here out of nowhere and has been in low 50s-60s for a 2 weeks. The Veinte cohol I planted finally finished unraveling it’s leaf and I can see the tip of the next one. Going very slow as it adjusts to being planted and the cold. The double major pups have put out 1.5 leaves each but still only 12” tall. The dwarf namwah is killing it though. Put out a whole leaf and is like 8 feet tall. The leave is at same height as the last two and has some bunching, but should clear up with the next one as it looks healthy finally. I think it’s getting pretty close. When I cut down the mother, there was a flower inside and it wasn’t too much taller than the one I have now. I’m just curious what the quality of the bananas will be since it took a beating this winter
@@georgiafarmingwithfluevog it’s uncertain if I will get a flower this season. All my plants are coming up from previous stems from last year but at ground level
