People sleep on how much depth you can achieve with compression, today for the first time it hit me, I was mixing a track and I noticed that when I would compress the track it fell back into the mix !
Exactly!!! Compression has so many use cases people aren’t talking about. Love that you’ve discovered this!
This is a great tutorial my guy. You really know your stuff and have purpose with the moves youre making. Not just following the cookie cutter RUclips guides. Really appreciate this new (to me) approach to compression. Curious about your mixing rates
Thank you fr! Learning and working on getting better everyday! But send me a DM on IG @TheSwollenOne or email me at SwoleHammy@gmail.com! Would love to hear what you're creating and see if I'd be a good fit!
Wow, outstanding lesson young man.. This is bananas.. I really like the way you broke this down man.. I've learned a lot bruh.. Bruh you should go on My Audio Nerds podcast.. This info is bananas bro.. I've learned so much.. Thank you for this..Yes suuh, you make a lot of sense.. Gems gruh. OUTSTANDING!!
Thank you so much fr 🙏🏾. Really appreciated. I'm working to get better every day and sharing along the way! I would love to be on that podcast! I've listened to a bunch of their episodes! Any thing else you'd want to see on here just lmk! Working on adding more to the Patreon too!
@@TheSwollenOne I think knowing when enough is enough. You ever do a mix, then come back to it and mess it up.. lol.. Cause you watched a tutorial and what they do with vocals I can't do cause their vocals sometimes pretty much already sound good.. How to know when a vocal is right, not too thin or not too boomy.. you know.. I hope I explained that properly.. lol
Referencing music that's already out helps me a lot with this. So if I'm going in a different direction, I know how far I'm going based on what the baseline for great is! I have a mix reference playlist I use for that.
Man I knew it was something more to vocal control on a track or anything you want to control dynamics on and peaks and since you explained it I understand quite well and it makes all the sense about it! Damn thank you.
Glad to share! Even more glad it made sense because I wasn't sure if it would lol. Anything else you want to see on here just lmk!
I swear...I got roasted on a FB group for using volume automation. It just makes more sense to do it this way. They kept saying could've used Vocal Rider. I just prefer more control over my dynamics. Folks don't wanna do the work.
I feel you. It happens to me too lol. But the results speak for themselves 🤷🏾♂️. Folks don't want to do the work is facts! You're right. But those who do have an opportunity to cut through 🙏🏾.
This is top tier bro ,great stuff , i’ve noticed that compression can line up the transients , create groove ,it can set the position of each track or group of tracks in the mix in a separation type a way ,creating dimension ,it can make certain elements groove better with each other,(e.g, using the same attack and release time on drums ,and then different times for Bass and so on.
Facts facts facts!!! Love this. So true. Def needs to be talked about way more on here. So many other uses for compression than what is often talked about. Thank you for commenting and watching 🙏🏾!
Great content as usual bro! Compression is definitely eq!
Appreciate you bro!
This makes so much sense, thanks for the info bro!!
Aaaayyyeee!!! You're welcome. Glad to help! Anything you want to see one here just lmk!
Keep doing these type of vids. You a good teacher as u are a engineer
Thank you so much fr! Glad this made sense. Any request for the next topic 👀?
Cool. I usually like automating a gain plugin lately. Hate having to loose the use of my channel strip. Great use of compression I like for color and tone. Keep up the great work.
That's interesting. I used to do the same thing! But why would you be losing the use of your channel strip? Thank you! Will do! You too 🙏🏾
I've enjoyed being here, supporting from KE🇰🇪☺️

Im starting to get into the world of mixing, and i dont know too much about compressors, like how they work and what each knob actually do, and would really help if u could do a video explaining how compressors work in depth and show some of the compressors vsts you use, because i really liked the way you view and use them. Love your content man, your amazing!
Thank you fr! Thank you for commenting and for watching. I can do that for sure!!! I'll be glad to help! I come up with a video for it and release it soon. I'll try to keep you updated and let you know when it drops!
This gave me something so different. Rarely ever used clip gain, definitely going to change my game up! Thank for the game brotha!
You’re welcome glad to help! Let me know how it goes. If there’s anything else you want to see on here let me know that too!
cool stuff bro great info!!!
Thank you! Glad to help. Anything you want to see on here just lmk!
@@TheSwollenOne yes how about vocal chains with universal audio plugins
@@user-ep7bn9hi9g I can do that fahso!!! thank you!
Do you use Logic, I haven't combed your channel yet.. lol.. Any mixing in that.. Im a go through to see.. Great content young man..
I do not use Logic lol 😅. Just Pro Tools for mixing. But I think the same things can be applied in Logic!
Great job
Thank you! Anything you want to see on here lmk!
Go🔥
Appreciate ya!!!! Got to 🙏🏾💯.
New sub'r. Good info bro. Thanks. Keep doing your thing!
Thank you fr!!! Will do 🙏🏾. Anything you want to see on here just lmk!
@@TheSwollenOne Fasho bro! You use Pro Tools right?
Yep, I do!
@@TheSwollenOne Cool!
I do record my vocals with just a tad of Opto compression vst. Ain gone lie tho. The Joe meek analog compressor really showed me the difference between analog and digital. There are a lot of other ways to do what we do with vst compressors with other stuff
This is very true!!!! But either way we can still achieve great results
came up off the puigchild.....the SPL IRON is the future though. good shit on this vid.
SPL Iron is nice!! That Puidchild just has a unique vibe for certain situations 😅. Thank you for commenting and watching 🙏🏾
Thanks

wow like wow🥰🥰🥰

Bro how long does volume automation take ugh… anyway thanks for the video. Learned a ton. I’m an EQ first guy and didn’t realize comps have EQs
The true answer is it depends. But I’d say on average an hour and a half to two hours
Pnb rock is chill
Lmaooooo
My problem with volume automation is that it doesn’t take long for me to become completely deaf and have to squint at the screen and rely on wave size , but also adhd makes me wanna jump to something production wise midway through volume automating vocals ha ha
Might have to do it in sections 😅. Like do the hook and go to something else. For me all of this is like a mediative and creative state I go in so while I can understand that I experience it differently.
This is a great tutorial my guy. You really know your stuff and have purpose with the moves your making, not just following the cookie cutter RUclips guides. Curious about your mixing rates

Greta content fr but that’s just gain staging and compression
Technically everything can be simplified to very fundamental concepts so I'm not sure what the point of saying this was
Vocal Rider?
Tried it and it does not do what I would do or what I want it to do. Tried the one from Melda as well.
But that process is far too time consuming
Could be the difference between good and great.
@@TheSwollenOne Also a fact
