For me Blossom is the most beautiful Toon-Character I ever have seen in Cinema - and her Story is also adorable 🤗🥹💕 What I love most about the Movie: In the Movie „IF“ our World collides with the Magic World. 💕
As much as I think people talk up Inside Out more than it deserves I do love how they showcased bing bong's character in that movie. That to me is a really good way of showing this concept.
Loved it, the attempt the connect every adult to their childhood, but the child at the front of it all acted in the most adult way. Helping others and realising her imaginary friend last.
You're right, it's not a Pixar movie and I liked it for that, the fact that krasinski Six Sensed us was in short a bravo moment, I enjoyed this film a lot.
Took my 7yr old daughter to see it yesterday. She asked to leave after an hour. I only persuaded her to stay because we had reclining seats. Had we not had reclining seats I would have gone to find the Garfield screening.
I was just reading Memoirs of an Imaginary Friend by Matthew Dicks, and it's an interesting take on why children create imaginary friends, from the perspective of an autistic boy's imaginary friend. It's Drop Dead Fred done correctly, as Budo, like Fred, is able to see other people's imaginary friends, some of whom live for years until their human no longer needs them, and others live for moments merely. Some are human, others are not. An imaginary friend can only do what their human imagines they can do: so Budo can walk through walls and doors, because his human imagines he can do so, but not if his human doesn't think something is a door. And, like Buzz Lightyear didn't initially know he was a toy, some of the imaginary friends don't know that they are imaginary initially. It doesn't sound like IF is covering any ground that's not been covered before in better stories.
Very flawed movie, but I think very very effective as a primer for explaining to children why cinema is special. 100% a future best director winner will be inspired by this movie
I watched this film with an eight year old girl who struggles with her emotions and I promise you she was not fixating on the voice cast. A wonderful movie which I think achieves what it sets out to do.
Of all the heart wrenching moments of the movies, "just kiss me and say drop dead Fred" is one that lives in my heart and visits my dreams often. RIP Rik.
In terms of the film being exploitative, lets not pretend almost every pixar film isnt the same. The opening to Up, the opening to Finding Nemo. Maybe there's a distinction I'm missing. Still great films, but they go in two footed.
Agree totally. Was a “nice” film that warms the tummy but didn’t stir me to the point of absolute joy/ emotion. Still can’t work out how Jon could have cuddles with Bea the day he came out of surgery!! Broken ribs, cracked sternum… take your pick but no cuddles for at least a fortnight! Daft, but that lack of attention to detail let it down.
People demanding to know why Craig McCracken isn't going to sue over this film or whatever, I'm sure McCracken can't be arsed spending years taking on Paramount and John Krasinski's lawyers
I think IF is a genuine 5 star movie. Never before have I been so moved by a film to the point of welling up as well as everyone being at the top of their game with an excellent score as well
I've only watched that clip from the trailer and here's what I thought. Do American audiences really have to be hit in the face with a frying pan to understand anything? Are they incapable of apprehending, let alone comprehending, subtlety or nuance? The IF stands for Imaginary Friends point is so laboriously delivered here, arriving like a fully-laden cargo ship honking slowly over the horizon while we watch on the quayside waiting for it to dock five hours later. Is the rest of the "comedy" in the film that leaden-footed?
John Krasinski as a writer/director could've stayed within the relatively safe confines of the 'Quiet Place Universe', so hope he's not too badly affected by this apparent swing & miss!
Quiet place was a pretty original concept when it was released and a surprise hit, I’m not sure why you think it’s a “safe confine”. Also Mark described this as not quite at the level of Toy Story and not a classic, so the bar that it doesn’t clear has been set very high.
I must admit that I did not recognize any of the famous voices. Not even the voice of Steve Carrell. I never understood why voices of famous people are used in kid's movies. The kids don't know any of them anyway and a real voice actor can do the job at least as well. It is absurd how much money Cameron Diaz got for every "Shrek" movie.
I really didn't like this film. I couldn't warm to any of the characters, human or animated. I didn't feel moved at any point during the film and I didn't laugh or cry. It was almost 2 hours of my life I won't get back.
Simon Mayo seems very very hard to win over as a film critic as he seems to go into films with a negative stance before it starts. Haven’t seen a review where he comments positively. Kermode seems more open minded but again makes the film work for him in order to receive praise
This is such a hack premise. There's no screenwriter in history who hasn't thought for a moment 'What about something with imaginary friends?' And can we bring back voice actors please? I find it quite annoying and mood-breaking to sit there wondering -- Wait, who's that? Ok, now who's that?
Jim from the office has made a career out of stealing ideas, just look at Some more News, plus A quiet place is just the book Bird Box with sound instead of vision. him stealing this movie idea isn’t surprising.
IF was such a mess I don’t even know where to begin. The underutilized actors that couldn’t apply their charm to the characters? The jokes that didn’t land or the sappy moments that weren’t earned? The fact that the message was to roam around NYC without parental supervision instead of dealing with childhood trauma? Who the hell watched this finished movie before the release and said “Yes, this is going to be great?!”
Easily one of the Worst Movies of the year so far to me , its A Full Rip off of Monsters INC meets Drop Dead Fred With a Dash of Toy Story Too. Plus Kruzinski Is unbearable and Seems like Hès Ripping off Dick Van Dyke being All Dancing at Stuff and Can't Pull It off At All. There was Nothing Moving At All About This Story Either at All. Who Would Ever Cry At This Crap ? Nothing Magical Either. A 2 Out of A Booshty Ten. IF Only They Never ever made this Crap.
It's *the exact same conceit* as the pretty widely popular 2000s children's cartoon Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends.
Exactly!
Totally!!
Plus they also named the Steve Carrel imaginary friend BLUE! Sound familiar?
This movie made me wonder what IF I was watching a much better film.
IF only this were a Disney movie, I IMAGINE that it could have been so much better.
Ahahah😂
@@mbryanf Or Pixar for that matter?
Great reminder to rewatch If.... Lindsay Anderson an unsung hero par excellence
It’s literally just Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends.
Partly... And Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends does it better.
It’s not actually, the story is quite different.
With a little sprinkle of "my neighbour totoro".
love the forbidden planet poster

Please tell me Drop Dead Fred turns up!
Kept thinking of Drop Dead Fred too. I mean imaginary friend whose friend has grown up how can you not think about that movie.
If only.
I saw this at the cinema. I love Rik Mayall in anything.
Also, this weirdly sounds like there's a bit of Hook in it.
Or the one from Inside Out!
My therapist: 'Uncanny CGI Rik Mayall isn't real, he can't hurt you.'
As much as I think people talk up Inside Out more than it deserves I do love how they showcased bing bong's character in that movie. That to me is a really good way of showing this concept.

How is Krasinski not being sued by Cartoon Network and the creators of Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends?
Different title, blu isn’t copyrighted & the characters are designed differently
Plus I highly doubt Craig McKracken has the pull to actually effectively sue Krasinki and the studio behind this
Moon Boy

Wow, a mention of Peter from Germany! I haven’t heard that name in a very long time… 😂
Neat, Mark has a CED movie. Hope I can get my player working.
I watched this film with an eight year old girl who struggles with her emotions and I promise you she was not fixating on the voice cast. A wonderful movie which I think achieves what it sets out to do.
are these two guys ever getting back into the studio?
Probably not up to them.
I miss my IFs too.
Drop Dead Fred is the only movie about imaginary friends (and childhood anxiety/ parental disconnect) anyone needs. Everything else is pale imitation.
Of all the heart wrenching moments of the movies, "just kiss me and say drop dead Fred" is one that lives in my heart and visits my dreams often. RIP Rik.

As soon as strings start up in pretty much anything my lip wobbles. It’s pretty much the emotional manipulation failsafe.
A whole movie basically about Bing Bong, itll probably kill me.. lol... its right in the sweet spot for my emotional triggers
Can we please meet this Peter from Germany, or has he gone now?

I shout the film title whenever I say it.
👍
Maybe
The best movie about imaginary friends is Drop Dead Fred...
You know it's true.
So, basically, _Bing-Bong: The Movie_
I love that you cry in the cinema Mark.
I didn't like the messaging. I thought it suggested adults still need imaginary friends. We should have grown out of that need by now.
It's a movie for kids. When I take my 3 year old to see it next weekend I will ask him if he reckons that it's overburdened with celebrity though...
If it was for kids only, why would they advertise the long list of celebrity voice actors every chance they get?
People demanding to know why Craig McCracken isn't going to sue over this film or whatever, I'm sure McCracken can't be arsed spending years taking on Paramount and John Krasinski's lawyers
Exactly. And the best anyone can get out of it these days is a financial settlement, and that's assuming they even feel there are grounds.
I think IF is a genuine 5 star movie. Never before have I been so moved by a film to the point of welling up as well as everyone being at the top of their game with an excellent score as well

Yes to all of the above

Quiet Place movies objectively suck.
I mean, there's stil a chance this film is a hit (especially as there hasn't been any new family films in ages), even if it stinks!
@@happymaskedguy1943They don’t though.
@@marks.8780Aye they do. Nobody will remember them in 10 years.

Not cohesive, fell flat but tried hard.
All films are manipulative by their very nature. The question is how obvious are they about it?

@@SweetMintPie555 I agree but he voices an opinion on the films as a critic would and he’s largely negative with his reviews.

Krasinski sucks as a filmmaker. His attempts are so one-note and banal. Quiet Place movies have all the dimension of a sat on McDonald’s bag.
Jim from the office has made a career out of stealing ideas, just look at Some more News, plus A quiet place is just the book Bird Box with sound instead of vision. him stealing this movie idea isn’t surprising.
This film is pretty bad. Not much of a kids film. Not much fun, far more sad than needed.
