Advice I have for long flights is when you get on the plane to set your watches to the timezone of where you're landing and sleep/stay up accordingly (even if it's unnatural to do so!) Have found it really helps with jet lag as it gives you a big head start and extra half a day or so of living in the new timezone! Enjoy the trip - Japan is amazing!
Yay!!!! Sounds like an amazing trip! Long flight but worth it!!! Can’t wait to hear more! And Tokyo Disney is a dream come true! So excited for yall!!!!
This is very exciting! I'm sure you guys are going to have a great time... after getting past that long flight. 😂 Say hi to Duffy! Is he at that one? 😂
Hahah yeah, it's gonna be a long one but I'm sure once we land and recover from the trek we'll enjoy ourselves!! I believe Duffy has a meet and greet in Japan but Duffy and his Friends are wayyyy more common in Shanghai/HK.
Tips for flight; take all the entertainment! Think it was 22 hours for us to get to Japan, but with books, films and sleeping it didn't feel too bad. Just make sure that you drink a lot of fluids on the flight because the dehydration seems to sneak up on a flight. Highly recommend at least one visit to a Coco Ichibanya for the best fast food ever. We spent a month in Japan (and planning a return in 2025) and went all over. If you can fit it into your itinerary, Shibu Onsen is fantastic as is all of Nagano. You'll have the most amazing time! If you want someone to practice Japanese with, let me know (though mine is pretty rusty!!) - Jo
Oh damn, 22 hours!! Wow!! Entertainment will be key, and also snacks for me 😜 We will be sure to drink lots of water on the flight too! We'll definitely look into your restaurant recommendation and other recommendations and see if they work for our itinerary 😍 Thanks 😃😃
YAY!!! I was HOPING this video would be a Japan trip announcement!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We flew through Canada!!! Two weeks is going to be amazing!!! If you are still trip planning I would love to chat and talk about some of the places that we know are iconic in the fall and a bit off the beaten path!! This is the best time because it’s so cheap. The flight there was HORRIBLE for us but the flight back was easy and I slept the whole time. I can’t recommend tohoku enough if you are still considering places to go:)
We have most of our plans laid out but would love to hear about some of the stuff off the beaten path and see if we can work it in 😃 I hope to get at least some sleep on the flight but who knows 🥴 Ryan looked up Tohoku and though it looks gorgeous for this trip it is too far out, maybe next one 😉 hehe
I’m so excited for you guys! It’ll be an amazing time! I was lucky enough to spend a little time in Tokyo with my family when I was younger - the flight is long. No getting around it 😂 Queue up the movies and the books and the snacks! I actually like compression socks but I think it’s a preference thing. The time change will be pretty brutal so try to start getting on Tokyo time as soon as you land. That’s a great idea to learn some Japanese, Laura! Can’t wait to follow along on your adventure!
Oh cool!! Yes, definitely snacks, I'll be over prepared on that one as I looove to eat when I'm bored 🤣 I'll have to try compression socks but I don't know if I'll like them - do you have a specific brand you like?
That's going to be an awesome trip. I've been listening to some Japanese lessons on Audible. I haven't learned that much but I may have to send you a few voice messages for us to practice our Japanese.
OMG!! What a couple of newbs. I travelled there alone as a 20 year old single woman and stayed there 10 years. I logged in many, many 17 hour flights. I've flown Aeroflot and China Airlines, that was exiting! Forget Disneyland, why go to Japan if you just want to go to Disneyland? You can go to Disney anytime, anywhere, why waste your valuable Japan time? Boring! Go to Kabuki Cho and Golden Gai after midnight. Go to a nightclub, see the fashionable people. Sleep in a capsule hotel. And rent a room in a Love Hotel, there are many around Shinjuku station. Stay in the kinky Studio Alpha Inn behind the Russian embassy. Stay overnight in a temple with the monks. Go to a festival. Hopefully you will get a couple of earthquakes under your belt, there a re 3 a day in Tokyo prefecture alone. Japan Travel Bureau can arrange this when you get there. You do not have to study Japanese especially Kanji, you do not need it. If in a spot, just use your phone app to translate. Foreigners have been travelling there for the last 100+ years, the Japanese will tolerate all of us. So take it easy! They are wonderful people for a warrior society. I almost married a few. Just get on the plane, sit down, strap in and hold on. Japan is psycho, enjoy the ride. I miss that crazy place.
Exciting Exciting Exciting!!!!! For the 13 hr plane ride I got up every few hrs and walked up and down the plane a bit to get the blood flowing so hopefully you guys are in an aisle seat so you can easily do that. Let me know if you need any help with anything or have any questions about stuff. Do you guys have a JR Rail pass or a suica card lined up?
Also take advantage of the free alcohol on the flight, im assuming you are flying Air Canada to Narita and that flight has free alcohol, my friend said they didnt really come around in Economy but you can get it while on your walks, itll help you sleep on the plane lol
We did book an aisle and middle seat so we'll definitely be getting up to move around occasionally. Unfortunately someone booked the 3rd seat next to us besides being a super empty flight at this moment so I'm hoping we can move, or change seats before 😜
Alcohol on the flight sounds like a good but bad idea, LOL! We won't be getting a JR rail pass as it doesn't make sense for our itinerary but we will pick up an IC card at the airport

A 13 hour flight sounds scary, I’ve never been on a plane 😅
It is scary, Kami! Hahah. Max I've done is 6 hours 🤦♀️🤦♀️ Wish us luck
