The guy shreddin' tenor sax is Alex Milsted - he was my roommate at Berklee freshman year. I was nowhere near his level at the time, but his playing inspired me to practice hard. Thanks, Alex!
I was having coffee with my cousin at the Starbucks just to the left of the bass player. The musicians showed up trying to find a place to plug in their amps. Starbucks said no but the ice cream place, J.P. Licks, was cool with it (you can see the yellow extension cord). I just happened to have my camera and filmed their set. Definitely cool guys. This was filmed Sept '09.
FREAKING INCREDIBLE! Ps that drummer is blowing me away... ONLY A SNARE AND HIGH HAT? Thats like Jamin with 2 strings on the guitar... haha CRAZY Talented
Bravo! I wish the personnel was listed, I'd hire any of these guys in a minute. (They're all marvelous, and the Hogwarts of Music should be proud, but special kudos to the drummer, who is so in-the-pocket with his groove... and with only a snare and a hi-hat.)
@@RafaelMinerbo nice, i didn't go to berklee but I did go to my local conservatory 2017-2021, I had friends who went to berklee though and I could've gone but it was just too far for me, but congrats!
It's essentially blues what they're playing, but they hella jazzed it up. The guitarist was mainly doing mixolydian and (obviously) pentatonic shiet with lots of chromaticism, i also heard some whole tone in there. I'm not very sure though, i'm pretty amateur myself :p
I am not sure early twenties I'm guessing since it's a college in Boston. I agree they are very talented musician's.... URockHard® Supports them all the way. Are you familiar with Boston?
you guys!!! made my day!!! omg!!! that was just amazing!! I laughed like crazy at the bass solo hahahaha... he did exactly what i do when im playing piano!! that orgasm though :3 jajajaja
+URockHardOfficial I AM SURE HE LISTENED TO PAT MARTINO A LOT ; I CAN HEAR SOME MARTINO'S PHRASING IN HIS SOLO ! WOW, I HAD LISTENED TO PAT 40 YEARS AGO !
Good way to pick up private party gigs for example. A lot of income can be generated and good business contacts. Be sure to have a business card to give potential clients. A lot of heavy players have made a taste from the street. It´s a venue that is available when you need it and there are no middle men getting between you and the money.
I love jazz. These guys are perfect musicians in some way. I respect them. But I would lie if I said that I enjoyed watching this. I don't know what jazz/music has to be like to be called exceptional, but what these kids do leaves me cold, I'm sorry. I hope they don't just go on with their practice routines, I hope they make experiences with the world and humanity that lead them to play music that is special and not just hard to play. Good luck, guys! Dare to be audacious!
GREAT PLAYERS BUT IT IS SO SAD FOR THE FACT THAT SO MANY PASSER-BY ARE COMPLETELY OBLIVIOUS TO THE TECHNICALITY & MUSICIANSHIP INVOLVED OF SUCH SUPERB LEVEL OF THE MUSIC PERFORMED. TO LIVE AS A JAZZ MUSICIAN IS REALLY A TOUGH CALL; THAT WHY I QUITED SOME 30 YEARS AGO AFTER I LEFT BERKLEE & I NEVER WANT TO VISIT BOSTON AGAIN BECAUSE I FEEL I HAD COMPLETELY WASTED 4 YEARS OF MY MOST VALUABLE LIFE SPAN WITH THAT SCHOOL I
+Philip Chen because there are tons of musicians up here in Boston on or around the streets and or T performing. It's no different than when I went to Berkley. Berkley is in the middle of the city if you haven't been and being an jazz musician is no harder then any genre of music these days. Probably actually easier because so many bands are now playing funk and or horns in there bands.
+Philip Chen I feel sad you think you wasted 4 years of your life. I've been playing for about 50 years and one thing I learned is people don't care about being technical, music is in the soul the average person (non-musician) and musicians, like what sounds good, and hits them in their sweet spot. You can't worry about the people no matter what the genre is. Stay positive and you will attract positive listeners. I hope your still playing it's your gift don't lose it!
+RockOnVideosNYC I REALLY WANT TO THANK YOU FOR YOUR HEART-FELT ADVICE. I GRADUATED B.M. IN 78, LOOKING BACK, I AM SO ANGRY FOR THE FACT THAT BERKLEE WAS ( IS ) SUCH A BAD SCHOOL. OTHER TEACHERS WERE NO BETTER; MY CLASS MATE MAJOR IN PERFORMANCE TOLD ME GARY BURTON WAS ALWAYS " ON THE ROADS " & ABSENT FROM HIS " IMPROVISATION CLASS " ETC. Mr. Mc GAW WAS ONE I STILL FULY RESPECT TODAY AFTER 40 YEARS ! THE FAMOUS " LINE-WRITING COURSE WAS A HOAX ! " ; YOU CAN;T WRITE MUSIC LIKE THAT WHEN YOU ARE SCORING FOR A MOVIE ! THERE WERE A LOT MORE TO SAY ABOUT BERKLEE, BUT IT IS NOT WORTHWHILE FOR ME TO DO SO FOR HIGH SCHOOOL KIDS WITH NO LIFE / MUSIC WORKING EXPERIENCE. ANYWAY , UPON " GRADUATION", I RETURNED TO HK IN 78, AFTER BEING ON THE VERGE OF STARVATION & PLAYED IN BANDS AT NIGHT CLUBS, I FINALLY BECAME STUDIO ARRANGER & FILM COMPOSER SINCE 84. AFTER 80 PLUS FILMS RETIRED IN 95. I HAVE NEVER USED ANYTHING I HAD " LEARNED " FROM BERKLEE IN ANY OF MY JOBS ! MY ADVICE IS, DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME WITH BERKLEE !
Who's the guitarist. I want to follow him. I don't generally like jazz guitar, there's Django, and I don't have any care anyone else, but this guy, amazing.
Power stance, sour face, holding the beat down and living the dream. Ladies and gentlemen, the man playing drums.

Wow I am actually quite amazed! Great job to these guys.
FREAKING INCREDIBLE! Ps that drummer is blowing me away... ONLY A SNARE AND HIGH HAT? Thats like Jamin with 2 strings on the guitar... haha CRAZY Talented

That is the BIGGEST bass I've ever seen.

"I play jazz! I know what it's like to be shat on!" - Branford Marsalis
i liked how at the end a buch of people just randomly started to clap unknowing of what was happening ... lol silly people
Lots of notes coming from a guitar
yeah i thought so too if he did just a few sustained notes the solo would be much more memorable
Opeth shirt ! :)
