    This is one of the most genuinely helpful how-to's I've ever seen. I love all the detail. A lot of people probably don't realize that some of the best bladers in the world still ask a homie for a shoulder from time to time.

    • @gargamel3393
      @gargamel3393 2 года назад +1

      Yep, sometimes you just want to see how fast the rail is going to be before you commit to jumping on it at any certain speed. I've jumped on rails that looked like they would slide and you just stick and go flying forward head first. Some materials can be deceiving.

    This is what is needed. Not industry gossip, even though we like that too, but if a admired pro gives us tips on how they got this or that, I would be tuned in. I would like to see Jeff Stockwell talk about park flow. Collin Kelso address how to skate with style. Farmer on the secrets of negative tricks. Can you imagine that world?

    Super juiced you're making videos like this. I feel like the youtube space doesn't have enough of this style of content from recognizable people. Some of the most popular skating videos on youtube are based around the basics of skating, because most of the new people don't know where else to search. It's good to see reputable people from blade culture in the youtube mix.

    Billy O'Neil with gray hair in a Bacemint shirt, making his own tutorial vid, roughly around the same time he launched his skate brand "Mesmer". It just shows me how much has changed, and how we don't need sponsors anymore. People are just doing their own thing.

    Thanks for this. So glad I am not alone in this. I STILL experience fear whenever approaching rails even thought I've done a fair share. I thought I was just weak or something for still having this general fear. Thanks for showing us this.

  • @GVGames1986

    I agree with that. It's doing the first attempt. After that it's like not so bad. My Dad used to say when you swim in cold seawater for example (getting your 'worst' over by jumping in initially, then your body is used to the temp). Just adding to, because Billy is spot on here and the hand onto the rail is one I forgot that I will be using again as I am having fun getting clips now.

    One advantage with handrails over flats is you don't have to charge at the rail to get all your switches at speed. you can do that nice crouch and pop up shown here..

    That makes so much sense to test it out and hold on to someone and grind it from the lower part. When i started i would just jump on the thing like a psycho HAHAHAHA. That was back in my days though, no more aggressive skating for me. Still love to skate though.

    My first hand rail i jumped on was steep, not very high and pretty short, on the other side of the rail was soft lawn, so it was easier for me to fully commit to jump on the rail because jumping to far wasn't really dangerous.

    Hey Billy, thanks for this I really wish I had this in high school when I was skating. I don’t think this is the best metaphor but is riding fast in the right situations better than approaching a rail slowly, like the added speed helps to get higher in jumps and you tend to slide out more instead of taking impact over a smaller area? I think there is probably way more nuance than this, I’m totally open to hearing everyone’s thoughts on this.

    Handing up to a rail is harder than doing a rail. Get good at p rails, then go to bigger p rails, then decent size park rails, then handrails. Have a safety trick and learn how to fall. Process...
