Huge huge props for giving Caliban more to do and say. He's been around for ages and treated pretty casually. Him being a speaker for Morlocks makes perfect sense as he's been around and involved for quite some time.
This inclusion of Anole felt very reminiscent of Spike’s arc with the Morlocks in X-Men Evolution, I luv it. I luv the departure from that arc with Anole continuing on with Morlocks’ blessing of him continuing on as a heroic but albeit normal every day mutant who balances just living his life with saving who he can, as his nature.
Thank you for alluding to Marcellus Williams and the real world ramifications of anti-blackness in America and how it is/can be mirrored in comics to spark dialogue and create an impact in pop culture.
Maggot started off as a black south african man, and was drawn with a dark, human skin tone. if i remember correctly, originally he only turned blue when his little biddies ate and then charged him up to become super strong. he wasn't always blue w red eyes.
I'm really enjoying NYX out of all these relaunch books. The analogies to real world marginalized communities that X-Men draws on a lot are really strongly themed in this book moreso than the others. And the spirit of finding community, and finding your self worth and being on a journey of self discovery. And sadly, the mourning we do for members of our community that die too soon - and while the outside may disgustingly support us dying, we will come together to mourn them and grow stronger in their honor. As a queer person, I really relate to these characters and these feelings. It's nice to hear you speak about how these types of stories relate to you too. Love X-Men! Thank you for covering these books!
I'm really loving the NYX series. The art is some of my favorite right now, up there with the uncanny xmen in my opinion. But the stories are soooo character driven. So focused but it feels connected. This issue in particular hit me. Anole has been one of my faves since I was a teen, he was diffidently my self insert back in new xmen especially when he joined the main roster with Pixie after the limbo arc. I felt like they are finally returning him to his trajectory that got dropped part way thru Utopia. He connected back to how I feel, and that panel of him saying "Don't we deserve to be seen" made me tear up. I guess that's why I always had a soft spot for the morlocks too, people who society is willing to discard or wants out of sight cause they don't align with the "norm" but just want to live in peace. I'm hoping the greater xmen team at marvel keep this kinda thing going, just giving us stories about this marginalized groups in their super world. Also, finally some good character development for mah boi. 10/10.
Do people even know the Eternals exist..? But realistically the Inhumans should be getting hate too. Unlike Mutants, there was a time when the Inhuman Council were literal fascists and they just...walked it off?
@daddydreet145 also humans are seemingly never bothered by Namor who also controls most of the planet via the oceans despite also being a mutant himself
Well for two reasons, inhumans are way rare and enternals don't give a fuck. Secondly mutants a marvels woobies, they need to be constantly harassed or persecuted cause it's their story.
Wait. What happened to Arroko? As far as I remember after they got done with their civil War they came and helped out Krakoa, but I don't remember anything about their civilization coming to an end. I only remember the inhabitants of Krokoa kind of establishing their own civilization in the future or something like that.
That still bugs me about this new era of x-men they still had plenty of story left from the krakoa era and they just completely forgot about Arrako the mutants could literally just go there why the hell do they have to go back to America
its still up there, we literally had the heir of apocalypse a while ago showing he's leading arakko right now and are making preparations for something.
The helmet & mask of these new Purifiers are interesting. the helmets are shaped in such a way it give homage to the crown of the Statue of Liberty , but those masks with "a giant red X" over one eye, it makes me think of the Exterminators from Hazbin Hotel.
i think the morlocks are the most under-utilised mutants, they're so interesting but i don't think they've ever had their own book? is that true or have they had one in the past? would love to see a book called MORLOX!
she was on arrako not krakoa. only the kroakoans who marched thru the gates at the Hellfire Gala incident or people who died during the fall of X would have been in the White Hot Room for the time skip
I disagree that the Morlocks and the Mutant Underground being two separate groups is unnecessary. I think they speak to different approaches and the Mutant Underground isn't about mutants that can't fit in they're about learning the lessons of Krakoa when trying to live among the humans so I feel they have a different message.
Unfortunately, the colors an artist uses for blk ppl will always be because "they're standing in the light or dark area which means their skin color will always change", especially when it comes to blk marvel or DC characters
the white hot room is the phoenix The Waiting Room is what Wanda made. they're basically ignoring it at this time since there is nobody to make more bodies and no cerebro except for the alaska one
Frankly all of the NuHumans should have just been mutants. I think the NuHuman plot point would have been better received if instead of shilling them with the intent to bury the X-Men, they were all mutants who's powers were awakened and tampered with by Terrigen. It could have been a nice way to explore the link between Mutants and Inhumans without damaging both that badly.
@S1mply_Gr4y absolutely The Mutants are the allegory for bigotry and the socially ostracized, it just makes more sense to tell that with Mutants instead of inhumans
The "Morlocks" (not Moreloxx... though admittedly that sounds like an awesome team name) are a community of Mutants who have mutations that don't afford them the luxury of being able to live among regular people. Extra limbs, reptilian appearance, pheromones that make people high, physical traits that are unnerving to look at, etc. They are usually the proverbial punching bag of mutantkind in the Marvel universe as they are often the first to be massacred, hunted, ostracized, etc. Even by the X-Men.
No, I got to disagree, it makes good sense to have more than one group doing this. The way all movements fall apart is by focusing on one area or putting it all behind one person that can be easily targeted or taken out, that's messing up the entire movement. It's what happened with MLK & why BLM feels like it's dead in the water. If there's more than one group doing this, then they can coordinate, communicate and combine resources to help each other out. This is community/mutual aid at its finest.

This was the best way to reintroduce the morlocks .
The Morlocks deserve their own book!
Without question!💯📠
I've long thought both the Brotherhood and the Morlocks were unique aspects of Mutant culture that deserved their own books at various points.

Just noticed how humans never seem to mind inhumans or eternals just mutants
That’s what we call unprogressive writing. Spider-Man comics are the biggest victim of this
Its favouritism at its finest....

The new look of the Purifiers gave me The Right, the smiley faced green mech suits, or like the FOH
If krakoa cooked more Nightcrawler religious journey could’ve intersected with the Morlocks still being treated poorly. But this is also nice.

Wonder how Arakko is fitting into this new era , we get a glimpse here in this issue but what happened to the rest ? Is Mars still a thing ?
Hopefully we'll find out soon enough!
“It would be weird”… read between the lines LOUD AND CLEAR
Please cover Dazzler it’s a good read.
5:35 I was excited about our frog boi showing up. Honestly, I wa SA big fan of Arrako. There, I said it 🐸
Cool I'm excited for the chicks story tbh, we haven't gotten too in depth with Oracco's history or culture

would love to see a book called MORLOX!
The Morlocks had a book in the 2000s
@@HELLO_KORO oh sick, i'll try to find it, thanks!
Damn, I had written this book off. Of course they're going to use a bunch of characters I like
The mutants whe went to the white hot room, spent 15 years there so it was no surprise the young mutant is older now
she was on arrako not krakoa. only the kroakoans who marched thru the gates at the Hellfire Gala incident or people who died during the fall of X would have been in the White Hot Room for the time skip
Almost feels like Inhumans 2.0
Luna has superspeed
I can appreciate the new Morlock status quo... sick of them just being victims to drive the plot or so how vile a villain is.
Good video brother

Is that Anole looking like a young adult now after being deaged as a tween during the Krakoan era?
Unfortunately, the colors an artist uses for blk ppl will always be because "they're standing in the light or dark area which means their skin color will always change", especially when it comes to blk marvel or DC characters
The Morlocks merged the cultures of Krakoa and Arakko into their own?
Who’s the Morlock that transformed into a trashcan on the animated series all the time? 😂
New camera?
If the cuckoos have telekinesis now.. Emma frost should also have telekinesis she is more powerful than all of them combined
Wait, Can't They STiLL Come Through The White Hot Room, That Scarlet WiTCH Created?
NYX iZ The Only X-BOOK That Makes Since, So Far.😏
the white hot room is the phoenix The Waiting Room is what Wanda made. they're basically ignoring it at this time since there is nobody to make more bodies and no cerebro except for the alaska one
@@LohengrinX14 Thanks 👍🏾 i'M an ELDER 🤓 GeEk, I get them mixed up.🤣
Nothing to say about the ending? About Sophie meeting Empath? Being a mole? Nothing at all?
Ms Marvel (Kamala Khan) is better and more interesting as a mutant then she ever was as an inhuman...yea, I said it.

Im starting to hate xmen due to how they love to white wash characters
