Max is spot on. As a pro fighter, you already know how to fight. You can get your reflexes on point without sparring. You can punch a heavy bag way harder than you can (should) punch your sparring partner. Pads will get your hands sharper than sparring will in my experience. Obviously you have to hone in and purposely use other methods to sharpen your reflexes.
Max doesn’t need to spar because he’s been through all the sparring sessions. He’s perfected his style. For people early in their career, u need sparring. nothing compares to realism.
In my training, I actually prefer touch-sparring. Super light contact, but just enough to know you got hit. That way, we can hone those reflexes without completely wrecking each other and work on developing a fighting style. When your sparring hard, your game plan and style tend to go out the window and you just want to hit the guy back.
I wonder why slow/light sparring isn’t done more often. Maybe it is but when I boxed we never went slow. Was always about trying to do things quickly. But when training anything else (think weights) we break it down slowly until we perfect it.
I love Oliveira, he’s my favorite fighter, but I think the best way to beat him is to go down after him when you knock him down. Ngannou was injured though ?
@@amanuelkibrom2072 yeah, he did indeed.
He only wrestled since he couldn’t move properly he just had too it was the only way he won because of his injuries before the fight
You speak as if Gane was doing any damage with the striking, giving soft ass kicks, dude was literally running around to not get caught
