  • BestArc asked me to take a look at their BTC400DP series 7 plasma cutter. I put it through my test of different gauge metals. Stay tuned to see how the machine did.
    The unit is now available.

    Pilot Arc is best for dirty/ rusty metal. Pilot arc starts when you pull the trigger; HF plasma has to be close to the material to start.
    This plasma works a lot better if you remove the guide ring. I have seen this plasma cut all the way through 1" steel (granted not as clean) I have seen it cut extremely clean through 3/4" though.
    I think you need a 65A plasma or possibly larger for the speeds you like to cut at. Seems like you were going way to fast for most of your cutting.
    Most people just leave plasma's cranked up and just adjust cut speed, but it's nice to get an idea of what it can do on various settings

    Pilot arc only puts a ground wire in the torch, so the arc will start in the air, not just touching it to the metal.

    What breaker on your 120v? I keep getting nuisance trips on 20A breaker at the lowest settings but on a 30A breaker has held up fine. Mine's an older gen.

      30 amp breaker for 120v outlet? What gauge wire is in your walls?

    • @jakefriesenjake
      @jakefriesenjake 11 месяцев назад

      @@idontwantcorporateretaliat6301 never heard of that before. Didn't even think that they made outlets/plugs for 110v to handle 30 amps. I've heard of 20 amp breakers using 12 gage wire in the walls tho.
      Another tip, if you don't have 220v in your shop, but you want to run 220v into your plasma cutter, but don't want to hire out an electrician. I'm not saying that this is the best idea or is legal or not, or that you don't know about this trick yet, but it works.
      If you have 2 separate 120v outlets in the area where you are plasma cutting, THAT ARE ON SEPERATE SIDES IN THE BREAKER PANEL ONLY, (like one switch on right side and one on the left side), then you can plug a cord into each separate outlet, with the white neutral wire side cut off, (large terminal side or the silver screw side of the wall outlet connection in the back of the outlet, or the side of the extension cord that is plugged in to the left side of the outlet if the ground terminal is on the very bottom orientation).
      So basically, with 2 separate 110v extension cords running to your cutter, cut off the white wire in each but leave the black wire and ground wire intact, wire up the black (hot) wire, to the plasma cutter, and twist both ground wires together and attach to the ground of the cutter.
      Boom, now you have 220v to the cutter with 2 modified 120v extention cords.
      Not saying that you didn't know this trick, but it's out there for others to try if they want. Use at your own risk, and only if you really understand what I'm trying to say. Enjoy.

      I wired it in myself, the plug for 120/30A looks like a smaller welder plug. I wired 220A for the welder and plasma but wanted to try 120V capabilities..@@jakefriesenjake
