I am a gig driver that mostly uses instacart to make some money, this has been my full time job for almost a year, and I have learned alot over that short period of time. Hoping to share tips and advice with you all!

for me the number 1 tip is always refund if you can't find an item. and refund right away if you can't find the item in an initial search. don't bother wasting time looking for an item. you will save so much time. and dont do replacements. i did in the beginning of my instacart gig and i was getting dinged on my rating by the customers complaining the replacements. and if they really want an replacement they will reject the refund and add an item they want as replacement. the lower tip vs the time saved was no comparison. refunding way better.
for every shopper going through a terrible time shopping 🛒 kindly contact #omortech for help grabbing high decent batches.#
Super interesting, I’ve had the exact opposite experience to yours.
@@iterativegrowth what do you do?
@@iterativegrowth Yeah.. wtf? 😂 Haven't done IC yet, but on DD.. i've gotten praised by customers for marking "item is unavailable" and if they don't have any replacements requests.. i'll just quickly snap a photo of a suggestion. Doesn't take that much time, and I just continue shopping/ go back once they respond. If no response by the time i'm finishing up, then i'll refund. Usually customers are glued to their phone when it comes to DD shopping orders, I would think especially when it comes to IC.
@@profoundwanderer1441yeah, I would praise you too. You can get your groceries delivered, but if even one item you need to make a recipe with, is out of stock and not offered to be replaced, then you can’t make that recipe and it was all for nothing. I wanted to make breakfast burritos one day so I ordered groceries. Large burrito tortillas, eggs, bacon, cheese and hash browns. Well they were out of the tortillas so I only got eggs, cheese, bacon and hash browns. I could have just made bacon and eggs, but that’s not what I wanted! Lol I wanted a breakfast burrito. So I literally had to drive to a store anyway to get tortillas and ended up paying the delivery fees and tip for nothing, as I could have just got everything myself if I knew I’d had to go to the store anyway.
Not to mention, they were probably just out of the brand of tortillas I ordered, I’m sure there were generic brands they could have replaced them with! I honestly felt ripped off from the whole situation, it wasn’t a good feeling. So I’d appreciate a shopper like you!
Number 11 should be don't let your cancellation rate get too high because it takes forever and ever to get it back down again
What are the main cons for having a high cancellation rate?
Mine's gotten as high as 13 because of panic swiping on an Order that was in another neighboring town and not realizing it until after the fact. I've finally whittled it down to 6!
@Matt Crust oh ok I just wanted to make sure it doesn’t affect the batches you see
@Matt Crust haha yeah i guess it’s better to just keep your rate low and not find out
@Monica you made $800 from one delivery 🚚 sounds like your on crack
So for those of you who want to talk to and agent and you want it to be fast literally just save the number that pops up on your caller id. They have your number saved so when you call it they know who you are and the number never changes for where you are. This eliminates going through the app multiple times
Yoooooo that is clutch
@@aphidcart big facts bro I figured that out because I got tired of going through the app and doing what you suggested. Lol make a video on that bro so people know.
I always list out in the notes any detail for the replacements to be on my regular items and if it’s not available then all good don’t worry trying to find anything else so they don’t waste their time. I try to help the shopper out as much as possible with the notes. I feel like it’s a team effort especially if I wanna get what I want or similar. I have some awesome regular shoppers that deliver to me and I always tip them well ❤. I can’t always get to the store so I greatly appreciate anyone who does this line of work.
You the best! As a full time shopper currently, people like you make me want to get up each day and do my best for customers! Unfortunately sometimes we get abused and it's out of instacart's control
@@H3c171 aww well I hope you get better customers! I rely on yall so much and very thankful for each and every one of you 💙
I'm going to share this, but I usually check items and see that there are heavy items. I'll do the order and ask an agent if I qualify for heavy pay afterwards. They have given 5 , 10 dollar bumps
Nice!! April will be 3 years on IC & im learning some VERY KOOL THINGS HERE!! TY!@
What is considered heavy Pay? I’ve had a lot of heavy items that should have been heavy pay, but I’m not too sure what qualifies a batch to be heavy pay
@@jesshatfield3720 it's supposed to be 3 items 8lbs or more with the overall batch being minimum 50lbs....
But now I've argued with them because they may have changed the rules stating it must be 3 items 8lbs and over and those 3 items must add up to 50lbs. So what? Like 2 milks and a 40 lbs item? They keep changing the rules and do small things such as if you are shopping a double and know it is missing heavy pay and intended on asking after batch is completed. I accepted an add on once that was 11 dollars, afterwards when I delivered everything it says "heavy pay included". I reached out to them and they couldn't break down the order to show me how it was included. Very important to screenshot everything otherwise they will sit there and act stupid.
Also, heavy items are like 24can cat food (24 cans x 156g) is over 8lbs. 4 L jugs of milk, case of pop 12 cans or 24. Cat litter and rice are the obvious heavy items
OMG. Today i did an Costco order with 5 water packs (40 bottles/pack) + 2 items heavier than a pack of water and get paid for $12.52 (includes heavy pay, it said), idk if that's normal? i'm new driver and never know this trick, thank you so much!!
Thanks for the info, never hurts to learn more. You can call the customer only if you're actively on a batch. Also for the meat ALWAYS get the heaviest meat so you can up your tip a few cents to cover any refunds or substitutions. Never weigh anything, it's too timely and subsequently costly. Once it's weighed at checkout the final number will be given to the customer.
I do this exact thing for the meat 😂
@@Will_01 I've never thought about this for meat. I'm going to start doing this!! lol
Wouldn't going over the weight the customer asked for increase the chances of you getting a lower rating though? Since that customer is now paying more.
I think it depends. I've gotten orders with meat and some orders say "customer expects the meat to be around so many lbs" but other orders don't. So I don't do that with meat orders where they are expecting a certain weight.
Hi!
I've been with IC for 3 years and u gave EXCELKENT TIPS! Pardon the pun!
Have you file the taxes for Instacart?
Good tip is go to settings and keep it on always use because if it’s just running in the back and you’re on another app the notifications will be so delayed thay other shoppers will accept before you even see the good ones.
This is all great info, even for a shopper that uses instacart. I only had one pet peeve when I used to live at my previous address. I lived up some steps and I hated every moment. Carrying groceries was too difficult with my chronic condition so I utilized instacart and DD all the time. When I would end up with a disabled shopper and they couldnt deliver my order I would be upset. I even had it in the notes to try to avoid this. I am happy moved and no one has to climb those stairs now.
I dread the coming summer heat where we have to sit in a car waiting for orders. The APP will say it takes "more than a half an hour to get an order from here go to other stores and see if they are busier, and then I drive around wasting gas looking for a store that MIGHT have an order.
When summer comes it will be torture.
I DONT understand WHY I stacart doesn't just send out the order to EVERYONE anywhere, so we can pick an order and drive to where there is one. Saving gas and keeping Carbon footprint low!
With a poly to start an order within a certain time frame (10-20 mins Instacart picks) or the order gets cancelled and is a mark against our rate. This makes sure we get orders we KNOW. We can start on time.
It would be the BEST way. Seems the CEO is out for torturing the shoppers, keeping us unsafe in parking lots at night, freezing in the winters, and burning up in the summer.
I can be ready to go and get to any store near me within 10 mins, and if IM at a store where there are no orders, instead of driving around searching it would be better to see all the orders and try to grab one nearby and not drive aimlessly losing Income.
This system of being in parking lots must end!
Lol😂😂 so funny your comment is
I’m sure you haven’t gotten the master software as a shopper?
I'm think of becoming an Instacart driver. I just Subscribed I like this video good job.
Thank you great info! I've never returned an order, except for alcohol...because there's still covid cases being reported; I tell IC, I can't return it(Aldis here will not take it back)..they usually cancel order, and tell me to keep it or donate..
Lol! Yeah, I've had that happen a few times with not being able to take back some VERY hi end hooch & been fortunate that the IC agents have been Kool like that and have told me to do whatever with it..."cheers" I say!!
Have you gotten the master software as a shopper ?…..
Yeah, the hardest one for me was figuring out how to bypass the automated support to get to a live Chat Agent and then finding out I'm talking to an idiot & need to request another agent or just end chat & start all over again.
Haha, exactly! They try their hardest to not allow us easy help.
Just type “support “ in the chat box from the start
@@aphidcart You look like Ben Shapiro and Brett Cooper had a baby😂😂😂
Also these are very helpful tips.
Support = robot, robot, robot… someone’s from India that is so not super helpful please and thank you but do not worry, rest assured you will be talking with me for 30 minutes more if you please.
Great job thx! I just learned about that last tip with a recent triple. Was going to add it if you didn’t mention
Thank you that was great advice. Honestly, I wish I had seen your video way before for.
Thank you very much you sharing! Now I know 💯 that this job isn’t for me!
You need to talk about those Aldi orders
I would need to ask around about that. I personally don’t have Aldi’s around me
I hate doing instacart at aldi. i avoid it all cost
#9 I've had people argue with me until they're purple in the face about asking for deserved bumps. I never do. I just tell the chat agent the facts and they are the ones they are responsible to do so. If they don't, what is $5 compared to losing out on work? It doesn't make sense how people are willing to risk their job for $5. You get the wrong chat agent, they report you, you are put on review, they don't care if the bumps are deserved, if you've asked for them repeatedly, they will claim your are abusing the system by asking. Ridiculous and sly of instacart, but it's true. They don't like giving more money out, plain and simple. And if you are costing them, they will get rid of you.
Ive literally asked for bumps the past 3 days they always give them to me
You should know even they are working for instacart and they can't give more than $5 and they have to approve to the supervisor to as per the policy and I have also noticed that the shopper comes to an agent and they are so worried about their customer ratings mean while when the shopper themselves give bad rating to the agent even after the agent provide them the information.
Have you gotten the master software as a shopper ?…….
Yeah that batch pay is garbage, I've seen batches that popped up for $5 & $6 with no tip, for 1- 7 miles. Good luck to those ppl that wants it delivered... Also in my market we don't get receipts no more unless it's for Costco, for the past couple months Publix doesn't give them (which is the main store here in Florida for Instacart.
What do you do when the store doesn't give you a receipt? How do you do the "Enter Info" part?
@@Purgatory-is5zj here in Florida Publix is the main store for Instacart then we have 2 Costco stores & 2 sam's club's between 3 counties. The bulk stores give receipts but Publix which 95% of the shopping is done for my market doesn't give them & don't need receipt info put in
@@Purgatory-is5zj only certain stores have that option.
The computer picks batches fir you if you have alot of regular customers I try to keep a high rating I think it helps but the shopping goes through cycles busy and slow according to demand.
Have you gotten the master software as a shopper ?
Dam I must be old cause watching this was like watching the MadTV UPS guy and the Coffee guy do a skit together
I always notice that if there is an indian person as customer on the batch, 99% of the time, it would be 0 dollars tips and they sometimes act like the instacart shopper is their servant.
very informative. thank you for sharing!
Glad it was helpful!
You forgot one: the aisle are disorganized where you’re looking around for items.
Can customers see your picture? If so, when during the process do they get to see it?
What's a "BUMP"?
Instacart agents can give out $5-10 pay increases for returning items or if you have to wait for over 15 minutes for a customer to accept a hand to me order
I just need to know if there’s a way to find out the exact address for drop off before accepting
Do you ever get those Delivery-Only orders where the customer ordered directly from the store and not through Instacart? I went and researched the Real Canadian Superstore about their online ordering system, and the prices are stated as being the same, even when ordering online. Since they didn't order through Instacart, can you give the customer the receipt if they demand it? Can they still commit fraud with a paper receipt (returning the items for money, and then telling Instacart that they didn't get their delivery?). I have had times when that particular store would tell me, "Please make sure that the customer gets their receipt, it is mandatory!" But I still don't give it to the customer because I don't want to get deactivated.
👍 have you gotten the software that enable you grab in high heavy orders automatically popping out on your screen? If no reach out to youtube.com/@Omortech. I make roughly $2050 weekly
Makes no sense why the customer would need to see the actual store receipt especially considering how much the prices on Instacart are inflated. Imagine if people started realizing they paid $20 more because Instacart has the "wrong" prices.
Don't do those.they will report driver for order , u didn't do. So not worth it
Hey! This was a great video. I'm always looking for good advice for instacart shoppers. I've been doing this off and on for about a year. I'm not sure what "bump" means though. Could someone give me some insight? Thanks again!
Bump is when you get paid for an order despite the fact that you couldn't complete it for some reason, such as item is out of stock, or store was closed. They give you a "bump for effort"
@@InspireUforlife how much bump are we speaking here
2:18 omg I be hating when this happens it’s so annoying it’s not my fault the produce and meat ain’t the exact size 😤 stop reducing my money smh no app does this but IC this why Shipt better they don’t take no money back for refunds or produce or nothing what you see in beginning is what u see in the end #ShiptBetter
Kindly send me a dm to file a complaint
Damn nice 💪🏽
Its kinda complicated
I have only 5 deliveries. This week ive turned it on several times and they offer crap. I only have a interest in quick low mile profitable orders. Im willing to do the short drug store type orders between other gig work.. wondering how long this lasts? Im just getting some vacation money i have no interest in being fearful of them or disconnection. I include this cause when they are talked about people b treat them like a boss for some reason.
Three batch orders are too hard to do and too confusing! And everything doesn’t fit in the cart. I literally have a panic attack when doing a 3 batch! Also, if there is water and pop cases involved, worse!
Also, when we take a 3 batch order, the customer has NO IDEA that we are shopping for two others. So they chat your face off and so are the other two chatting it up with me!🤦🏻♀️ And customers are sick and tired of paying for reusable bags! IC they don’t want them anymore and stores aren’t offering bags!!!
10 things I wish I knew before starting instacart? It doesn’t pay and it doesn’t pay, it doesn’t pay, it doesn’t pay, it doesn’t pay, it doesn’t pay, it doesn’t pay, it doesn’t pay, it doesn’t pay, it doesn’t pay!!!!!
They add on a boost or the extra $2 on every order!! No they aren’t, they lower the batch pay sooooo low that you still make nothing on the order. They make it look like your getting extra but you not!! And these really low paying batches that expect the customer to fork in a higher tip? I’m so done!!
I died laughing thank u😂
C'mon, kid, SURE they do. It's when you can't add to your order FIVE minutes after creating it, but your order takes three hours to arrive. It's really fucking annoying to go to add to your order three minutes after starting it, and getting a "too late, sucker" warning.

This gig sounds like a really bad deal. What about dollars per hour ratio? Busy checkout lines? Shopping for an hour b4 you start delivering??? Yeah this is a no go in most markets.
Before the “recession” I was averaging $30/hr. I got up to 40/hr even with gas expenses
do you need commercial insurance?
Oh and did I forget to mention, I just got my first 5🌟? Oh yay! Like that’ll pay the bills eh IC?

What about taxes!? If we making less than $50,000/yr, do we still have to pay taxes!??
yes, you will have to claim this income on your taxes. if this is your only means of income make sure you are putting some back because you will have to pay taxes on everything you earned
Why am I not getting more batches? I activated my card

Is Uber eats better ?
i dont understand the due time if bcuz once i get the order the app tells me to start shopping
Bro ive asked for bumps 3 days in a row and they gave me money every time cause their base pay for miles is wrong
Welp, just so you know people have gotten deactivated for it. Check Reddit sometime. Even if the bumps are deserved. Just don’t use the word bump specifically
@@aphidcart Yea i just screen shot the batch and show that the base pay for miles are off. I'm new to it only done like 25 orders. it's fun lowkey
Sorry if this is a stupid question, but how do you calculate the base pay for miles?
2 things I would like to add to the list as a new shopper, I've noticed two things that new shoppers should know when starting Instacart.
1. For some odd reason, I can't for the life of me understand why Instacart didn't do this during the sign up process, but they do not complete the hiring process of a new shopper until said shopper clicks the "Go Online" button.
(This kinda pissed me off. I spent the week prior to clicking it so I could go over the handbook, learning the app, all the extra steps like cleaning up & stocking the car with anything I might need. Then I Drive 20 minutes out the way to a shopping center before I finally hit "Go Online".
I thought I would be able to get started right then. NOPE. Instacart then Informed me that they are now running a background check.
Fyi, it can take 1-10 days before some background checks come back, & until it does you can't Start.
So new shoppers, whether you are ready to shop or not, after signing up just click the button so they run it before you do what I did. (Btw It cleared after a few hours, but it did cost me a day of work waiting. Some can take longer)
2. Just because you have stores near your house/area doesn't mean they will have a batch. I realized after the first hour or so that it doesn't matter if it's a busy store or shopping center, if it's not a popular area with few stores in the area. Then any available batchs are basically rare.
I ended up driving 30-45 minutes to go to a very nice & populated area before a single batch became available...
Btw, Wealthy city/towns w/ multiple big store chains all within a square mile of each other are the best areas to go to before you start trying to get batchs.
Please explain what a bump is
I need to know as well :D

Hi. If working everyday, how many times does Instacart ask for facial recognition ?
Personally that hasn’t happened in months for me
@Aphid Cart so how does instacart know its really you and not someone else doing your instacart ?
@@kota11334it’s completely random, I’ve had it not happen for months and I’ve had it happen 3 times in one day.

i just made an order for groceries , tipped my shopper/driver $5 , and it showed the service fee is $8.99 and delivery fee as $3.99
does the driver *ONLY* get $5 ? would seem weird that none of the service fee or delivery fee goes to the driver ?
Good question
nope depending on how many groceries you order, where I am its about 7 per order plus the tip. a lot of people do not tip so they bundle orders together. where one order tipped decent and the other one or 2 did not tip at all. @@saggcornio9307

What about taxes on earnings
Honestly with all the driving I do, I don’t pay much in taxes. I just use turbo tax business and it isn’t too bad. There are a ton of write offs that we can use, like food and drinks you use while working. Miles, seat covers, accessories for work.
AMAZING VIDEO! Thanks so much! 🌷🦋🥳
I keep applying, but Instacart never replied back to me. Can you give me some advice please.
Honestly isn’t much to do besides try to apply to a different town?
Have you done your background check? This was a very important process for me to do once my background check came through had to talk to Instacart and email them two times and talk to somebody about getting appeal. Finally, they emailed me a appeal and I filled it out explaining why I had a bad background a few years ago when I was younger I’m 31 now. And I’m so grateful they approved it :) but you got to actually try to contact them and talk to them even if you don’t hear for them in about a week always contact them again if they tell you to wait be patient but contact them again they will hire you if they can hire me 😀👍
Good video, if you see I posted and can benefit from a sign up ref, post me your code for sign up as fast as you can. Thanks L&S
When accepting an order how do you find out how many miles away the customer's house is?
It shows it under the pay, that is only including miles from the store. Not to the store and to the customer. Hope this helps 😁
I thought you had lashes on😅
I know…it’s a curse!
Drivers need to shut down for the rest of the day and refuse to do anymore batches when they get tip baited. The only way Instacart is going to fix the tip baiting problem is if drivers send them a message. No more batches the rest of the day.
Good luck with that. Unfortunately you will never be able to convince everyone.
Why did you wish you knew about 4 lol
also people Chet load of broke lazy people pay with Chip or Goverment Assistance cards and Order over 20 items. then once you haul all that stuff to thier door they will never tip.
A few things there
Getting the option to call a support agent is only available when you’re actively on a batch, you can’t call support agents at any other time.
The due time is 100% arbitrary
Check the due time when you first accept the batch, sometimes it will be up 5 hours away (the furthest I’ve seen)
The due time will then completely change when you actually check out, will usually shave hours off, and tell you that you are late or going to be late. This is safe to ignore in most circumstances. (Never had an issue)
Support agents can cancel your batches at any time for any reason. If you’re ever mean to the wrong agent they will wait and cancel your batch after check out just to spite you.
I had an agent cancel a $76 order, I got banned for 24 hours and lost all $76 for that order, no one from support helped or cared, I lost $300+ because of a small argument with a stupid support agent.
Support agents are worthless, if you aren’t getting an answer you want, try another agent or just accept that IC agents are usually legitimately stupid.
And I’ve never heard of the bump thing, it’s been 4 years and 1000+ orders for me, been screwed out of plenty of adjustments and bumps, I contact them every time and get it, never ever been warned of risk of deactivation for it.
Great info! And the bump thing I found on Reddit… I’ve seen a few people say they were deactivated for it. But who knows.
Let's all just be honest. Instacart don't give a **** about their shoppers.from the next to useless customer service which only answers the chat, call are constantly hung up before answered. There's the batch pay. Mostly all I get is the run of the mill $7 tipless batches. I don't really mind the no tip just preferred better pay for my time. I have been doing this for 2 weeks now, just received my card yesterday and it's been worse. I'm constantly being asked to take double batch orders that only pay $9 to 30 but they are ALOT of items or 2 separate stores that's not all that close and ya 17 to 30 miles to the customer. Someone else takes these orders but does it justify your time, effort and most importantly gas? They seem insane. IC claims they offer double and triples to help us earn more but it's not more it's less for more stress miles and disappointed customers coz of the later deliveries and bad feedback from the shopper coz we are too busy to notice the messages. Why are we expected to work more and hard for the same or less pay? And the orders are insane. For example first one I turned down was a double batch for $29 for 45 items(64 units) from Sam's club and Aldi. I know from going to Sam's club for myself their stuff ain't tiny, your talking about alot of bulk for your vehicle plus a order at Aldi then you have to take it 23.1 miles to your 2 separate stops. How does the pay justify it all?
I was on the phone for 40 min with InstaCart because the app froze on me after paying, no bump! I asked twice, they said they can’t do it lol
