    Shirt design for the 540i rebuild ?
    I Always wanted a K bike but people stirred me away from it, or I didn't find one for a good price, or it was just to much of a project.... Got lucky N scored on this one !!
    Its seems like I fell in love with this machine, reminds me when I first got into E34s, I keep an eye out for k bikes, I catch my self reading, searching for k bikes, joining groups and now the algorithm is showing me a whole bunch of motorcycle stuff hahaha
    I bought it May 30, its coming on a month ownership now and I've put a total of 2800 miles on it so far, today was a fun day cause I convince mother bear to go on a ride with me, memories that'll stick fo life.
    anyway stay in touch with your boy cause I might be in your hood and would love to meet ya fam !

      I’ve had one for 4 years. I’ve replaced pretty much everything that had to be as it was sat up since 2008. It’s a great bike. Way better that the k100 as the k75 has a balanced crank. So smooth…All the best.👍🏾🇬🇧

    I thought that I would throw a little trivia your way seeing as how you're younger than me and might not know this juicy little tidbit about your BMW K75. You didn't mention it so here it is..........pause for dramatic effect, this bike you are riding is known as the Flying Brick. Ta da! The Brick in the nickname is in reference to the shape of the engine and the Flying part is self explanatory. This puppy can fly. For 1986 anyway it was a quick mid-sized bike that was great out on the highway and more than adequate for city riding. You nailed it with how sweet that German engineering is. Those engineers from the Deutschland really know their stuff. It seems like anything that needs some precision engineering combined with the latest in technology you don't need to look no further than those German's. Enjoy your Flying Brick!!

      Thanks fam ! Been loving it. I didn’t mention it in this video but my “crash car” video I mention it towards the end. Love the nickname. It really is a brick, heavy bike. I wonder if it was a forged aluminum frame how that would effect weight

    Sound quality is great man. I also vote if you want to try out different things with the exhaust buy a spare to cut up just in case you dont like how it turns out youll still have a mint stock one 👍

    Bro! Been following for awhile as I have a similar addiction to this era of BMW (E34, E36, E39) - I have a K75S and these bikes are an absolute joy! Quirky as hell but stone reliable and super easy to work on. Turns heads everywhere too! Enjoy it and be safe out there brother

    They're a great bike, not overly powerful, but capable of massive miles if given regular servicing. I bought my '93 K75S new, and still have it. As others have said, dont lose the standard exhaust. You can polish the guard and the muffler and they look a bit better than the stainless/black look.

    Thats great, i have the same one over here in the EU, they get shredded to pieces and made into "cafe racers" but in my experience stock is best. Gear indicator for example, i would fight anyone before giving that up once you get used to it, its a feature a lot of modern bikes dont have today. Also it has been said the aftermarket is worse, it is! the sound doesnt get better, just louder and obnoxious, the whine is there to stay, even with open pipes. Its a K type signature thing because of the way the fuel pump works, its chugs at 100% capacity at all times and recirculates what it doesnt need, just like a car. I think they even used the same literal fuel pump as in some E30 models. Happy K adventures brother!

    • @Soggz7785

      The whine noise is from the alternator.👍🏾

    Hi. You must leave that bike standard. They are amazing. Remember, it’s NOT a sport bike. It will take you around the world, if you look after it. Make sure you grease the rear splines at every tyre change, and watch the fan housing. They can break, and the fan won’t work.
    All the best.👍🏾🇬🇧🏍️

    Lol...just stumbled on this tonight: I own a '87; SAME paint, etc as yours....+ the saddlebags. The thing just runs!; I have 88,000mi on mine. (68, I've been riding 44); purrs along. Smooth. My ONLY issue is...I'm not a wrencher, and NOBODY works on them where I live. Even the Beemer dealerships won't service them- ANY service (oil changes, tires, etc.) It's ridiculous....because it's still a great bike. One thing I would recommend is: for road trips, use straps around the saddlebags w/ the sliding lock clasps. That prevents a garage sale on the freeway. Another challenge is...tires; unusual sizes....tough to get/match. ps: Your's looks ALOT better than mine!

  • @curtrn
    @curtrn Год назад +1

    Last year I purchased a 1985 K100 RT. I could not be happier. I have been stuck in the 80"s for years. Those Germans truly over engineered those K bikes. They were the last bike bikes built to a standard not a price. The had to update the older air cooled and compete with the Japanese bikes. The out did themselves with the K bike. They last longer than the air cooled as was it's engineering goal. Not uncommon to see these go for 100,000 , 200,000 - 300,000 miles. It's hard to believe so few people own motorcycles in America. I'm 55 when I was a kid ever body's old man owned a bike. Almost nobody owns them nowadays. There so affordable it's just too good of a value for me not to look for a second BMW motorcycle.

    Nice ride! Hopfully it holds up well for you. Make sure the splines have been lubed on the final drive and clutch/imput shaft. Unfortunately thats a transmission out job... If you have a hard time downshifting at all, do it ASAP! My 85 k100 is currenty layed up with suspected stripped clutch and/or transmission imput shaft splines. Hall effect sensors and ignition coils will usually go on these as well, causing all sorts of running issues!

    • @richardwestmoreland4796
      @richardwestmoreland4796 Год назад

      Great post @carolinacars739! Those final drive splines definitely need to be checked on an older bike like this. I don't know what kind of milage he has on his K75 but a bike of that age with this well known issue you are asking for trouble if the final drive splines are not checked. I've also heard of the Hall effect sensors being an issue.

    R90S or K1100RS handle bars are lower and quite comfortable on long rides. "K Wine" around 3,000 rpm is a real head turner without being loud or obtrusive. Some people think it has a turbo or is a E bike.

    K75s are the best!! I'm on my third one now. I'm 65, and I've been riding since I was 12, had many, many bikes, and the K75S is my favourite. It's overweight, but it gets better and better the more you ride it. It gets more stable the faster you go. It will do 120 MPH for hours.

    Be careful changing the exhaust on the K75. Years ago extensive dyno and ride testing was done with aftermarket exhaust. It was found the factory exhaust was finely tuned for the best overall power band . The aftermarkets lowered the midrange torque and changed the overall ride and drive characteristics for the worse.
    If you want the aftermarket sound and aren't bothered by the power band change, go for it. But definitely keep the stock exhaust to fall back on.

    Had the K75 for many years. a wonderful bike. only changed oils. fuel filter never changed in 100,000 km nor air filter. It was working like Swiss clock. have maybe the best reliable engine from all bikes. It was build by BMW when the company needed to come with the best bike they could make. BMW invested a lot of money in this series of the K bikes. It is built of the best materials with the quality of BMW in the 80's, which is far better then any of the so called high quality of today. Have fun with K75. Why to change anything in a winning motorbike?

      It might have started out as a Peugeot 104 block, but BMW redesigned the whole thing to be 100% kickass. DOHC, fuel injection, electronic sparks, Nikasil bores, 11:1 compression and 100BHP per litre. They have done 1,000,000 miles, these engines.

    I went to through a kind of similiar journey with bmw cars and motorcycles, ive owned e30s, many e39s, e36s etc but i lost my first bmw; the e39 540i/6 when i got into a wreck a few years ago and that i still bothers me. Currently sold off all my projects except an e28 but that just sits now and i ended up getting into motorcycles and dailying a cbr600rr while my car hobby gets put on the back burner in a similiar way to what your feeling. Dunno maybe its just a case of being burnt out from pouring so much time into these cars and nothing else, but take care man hope to see you on the road as a fellow bmw carguy and rider.

      Thanks for commenting fam, you hit it right on the nose, to me it just seems like it ain’t worth it. Unless it stays in the garage. Just put all the time and money and then it’s gone, but not that I’m not addicted to it and actually able to see what I like doing other than spending money on these shit boxes, I do see my self getting back into but in a different way, just have fun and enjoy it. Not striving for perfection any more. Just keep them around for now until it’s time. I’m sure you’ll get that e28 back up to enjoy it ! Once I get tired of the bike I’ll have the m5 to play with !

Honestly i want to just grab an e34/e39 m5 project too since im too prone on making my stuff immediately never pass smog lol.
