the non military name of G3 is the HK 31 and all of the HK 3# guns are the same receiver scaled up and down depending on the cartridge, the up graded versions of the guns became the HK 4#/5# . the MP5 other name is the HK 54 . still all the same roller delayed blowback design just scaled around what round it needed to fire.
