      I actually purchased it after seeing it. I generally find myself agreeing with Zee's opinions, and I was not disappointed this time! Great game.

    51st State: Ultimate Edition campaign launches in 2 hours for anyone wanting the new updated version with deluxe pieces, more expansions, etc.

    I really like how you explain the evolution of the game and what came before it (earlier editions etc.)

    Is this set in the world of Neuroshima?
    Neuroshima is one of my most favorite games, I know it was on #2 on your all time favorite list :) I still feel unsure about 51st state :/

    I was hesitant on pre-ordering this, mostly because I was holding out for the solo variant threshold, but now I'm certain I will pre-order. I love Imperial Settlers and now I'll have another game with the same feel but with a much cooler theme. Thanks for the review!

    Thanks for the video! I've been needing an explanation of this game. My only remaining question is if this game is different enough from Imperial Settlers to justify owning both. Aside from the theme and end-game timing, it doesn't appear to be that different. Does this bring anything else to the field that Imperial Settlers doesn't?

    • @Patronux
      @Patronux 8 лет назад +4

      +vrava I want to know this too. Any thoughts, Zee?

      I owned both and sold Imperial Settlers. IS just gets really bloated in the fifth round. Crazy amount of cards to take into account. If your brain is not able to process everything, you will lose everytime against these autistic players:) 51st state usually takes 4 rounds. The end is still complex, but in a nice way. Thus its also shorter.

    Just watched how to play this game and yes now I officially have this on my to-buy list. Thanks Zee! A good competitor (even if you already have it!) to Imperial Settlers. Love the theme, too. :D

    Wish we had Winter and Ruins in Australia. (Also an English version of the RPG would be cool)

    I was interested in the theme of 51st State and I researched it a while back, but I didn't like the graphic design so I gave it a pass. I have Imperial Settlers on my list of games I want. I feel as if Portal Games was reading my mind with this game as it has everything that I wanted. I will have to pre-order this now.

    I still like the original but this is a great way to get in a great game in this IP in less time. Played a 2 player game in 45 minutes yesterday.

    I like that it's streamlined but not sure about the meanness. Original Winter seamed less mean.

    Gameplay, and contents look Awesome! Terrible looking box cover, though, which is too bad, because prior 51st State games have had really cool Fallout, STALKER franchise feeling graphics. I'm waiting on a next edition to this one, where they'll hopefully update the box art.

    Sorry, I didn't understand what this game theme was all about. I will now have to read and watch older reviews to understand any purpose behind the mechanisms. I would have also liked to have seen some art on the cards close up. Generally, I like Zee's reviews but this review left me with questions.

    • @ZeeGarc

      I apologize if I was confusing. The game has a post-apocalyptic theme in which each faction is vying for territory and control.

    So my initial suspicions seem to be correct - if you're a fan of 51st State and Imperial Settlers than this is basically a must have in your collection :)

    If I wanted to have a game that didn't have attacking, would you simply recommend the original 51st State with no expansions? Or do you feel this is still better in every way, even with attacks, to a more euro-style RFTG loving gamer like myself?
    The common response I've seen on BGG is that attacking is expensive, so it is effectively discouraged, but I feel like if the option is there and you have the spare requirements, it will happen.

    Hey zee if you could buy either imperial settlers or state 51 which one would you choose? I personally like the mad max theme better but the imperial settlers theme is more catching for other people. Also, should i just cough up a few bucks and get defended of the last stand instead of state 51? What say you?

    How does it compare with Hiroshima Hex... same ... better or worse?

  • @ianotoolevideo

    So in this version you have to spend your resources to get contact tokens, and then use them on your next turn? You can't simply spend a gear to incorporate a location?

    • @ZeeGarc
      @ZeeGarc 8 лет назад +1

      That's right. It's a simplification of what New Era did, and this method also allows a player to pass if they think they see an attack coming. A player that has passed for the round can't be affected by the others.

    I've been considering getting Imperial Settlers, and I think I like its theme and that there are faction specific cards better. This looks good, but not as good to my taste.

    I would have liked to hear more in regards to how this game differentiates itself from Imperial Settlers. Looked mostly the same with the exception of 51st State Master Set removing faction specific decks and making all players use a single community deck. That might not be a bad thing though. Love me some Imperial Settlers!

    • @ZeeGarc
      @ZeeGarc 8 лет назад +4

      Well, hopefully you'll have enough in the vid to spot the differences, but the main ones are: Common deck, everything can be attacked, no set number of rounds, redevelopment action (which also grants 1vp), open production cards (Imperial Settlers added that in the first expansion), and really close scoring (in my experiences). Those are the ones coming to mind right now.

      Zunyer Garcia Thank you for the added clarification. Much appreciated.

    Hmm... The original, this, or Imperial Settlers? :/

    • @prufrock1977
      @prufrock1977 8 лет назад +1

      I would say Imperial Settlers or this. The original was clunky with a lot of unnecessary rules (rule of three, convoluted lookout phase, etc.). This one looks awesome. I had the original but traded it. I have Imperial Settlers, and I love it! I will probably get this one in the future because I like the theme and aesthetic more.

    Thank God for Tabletopia. Imperial Settlers was an incredibly boring snoozer and this looks just as bad. I think I just do not like Portal games. Robinson Crusoe....zzzzzzz. Neruo Hex looks equally boring.
