When you were climbing to altitude and you stuck your arm outside the cockpit to point at something, just for a moment, I felt a very strong sensation of falling. But that open cockpit gives me that feeling quite often. Thanks for your video. Loved it !

I enjoyed your video. I would disagree w/ you about General Aviation airplanes being the "least" fun though... The C-172 and PA-28 (the Toyota Camry and the Honda Civic of the sky respectively) are pretty Ho Hum. No question... but as you said still "fun". However the G.A. Red Baron Stearman that I flew through aileron rolls, and the Aeroshell (when it was the North American Aerobatic Team) AT-6 that I flew through aileron rolls, and the Goodyear Blimp that I have .8 hrs logged in my book from, were a kick in the pants to fly. So were the Remos and the Diamond DA-20... about 50 hrs each... (Mazda Miatas of the sky). All General Aviation. I will say that my ride with Steve Graves in his Marchetti and my 1.3 hours training in a Hughes 269 remain the most fun flying in my 3,300 hr, 36 year logbook. You know, powerlines won't jump out and bite you...all you have to do is not touch them LOL Fly above, below, or to the sides of them, just keep them in your line of sight. The moment you lose sight of them is the moment you hit them. I fly several fields with hidden poles, and it's kind of amusing because they all have several splices where other pilots flew into them. Hell, my airstrip has a set of wires about a third of the way down, so I always have to land under them.
@@AllAmericanAviation I know guys who have flown through powerlines pretty much every season and didn't even damage their planes, and I knew a few guys that only did it once. Ag planes have some defense against it, but helis and gyros just have way too much to get tangled up and damaged. I wouldn't necessarily write off a road because of powerlines, especially if it's your best or only option. You seem like you're pretty adept at spotting them, here's a few tips that I learned from some old pilots...always look for the poles, not the wires. You can see poles a lot easier than wires. If it doesn't feel right get out. Sometimes your head is caught up in other things and you don't realize that you saw a pole out there, so if it doesn't feel right that's your subconscious possibly pointing out what you didn't immediately notice. It may also be telling you that those trees are suspiciously spaced close enough to hide poles. Oh, one that I made myself that you guys reminded me of...if you get caught in low visibility, towers don't grow on roads or rivers, and there's plenty of them out there just waiting to shake hands with you. Be safe out there man.
Always enjoy autorotation. My instructor taught me to bring the air speed down to zero, rudder authority is near zero needing large pedal inputs to maintain direction adding slight side cyclic to effect a "side slip"
phil QUANTRILL - If you're flying a gyro, you're always in autorotation, with or without an engine. When you use side-slip, you're trading off forward airspeed for sideways airspeed - The difference being that the sideways component does not fully register on your airspeed indicator so it LOOKS like you are going a lot slower than you really are... and without forward airspeed (or at least propwash over the empennage), you will have far less rudder authority. Yes, you can get down to effectively zero airspeed, but the risk of losing control is increased and that is why good instructors generally advise against dropping below 20mph. It's easy enough to correct for the spin when it does set in, but it can also set in quite quickly and generate forces which require a fair degree of effort to overcome so hesitation in correcting the spin should be avoided, as should the spin itself... and the best way to avoid that is to never drop below that minimum airspeed.

I agree that rudder authority is lost at less than 20mph and issues can arise very quickly, but, a good instructor will help you understand and master this under supervision and not as a surprise/shock when it does happen for the first time when one is solo. A good instructor will cover all eventualities it is safe to cover under instruction and strongly advise against those areas it is dangerous to enter into and why. Phil.

Autorotation is the phenomenon of the blades turning due to airflow. It's how a gyro flies. I agree that a good instructor should demonstrate the danger areas and how to recover from them and they should also explain how to stay away from those danger areas in the first place. An ounce of prevention is usually better than a pound of cure.

Normal RRPM. It remains constant Autorotation speed.

We're not IMC. We had visual reference to the ground and the horizon the entire time and maintained our minimum cloud distances with by a lot.

I lost a good buddy in the Army to a power-line in a Kiowa Warrior in Tennessee. Can't get complacent for sure. But yet--I agree with you.

Not sure of what your comment means but you definitely want to avoid negative g's and get into a condition known as "bunt over".
