I just got mine 3 weeks ago, I’m a new rider so thanks for the information. I’ve got so much to learn but that’s okay just another cool thing to do during my retirement years!
Awesome! I think you will notice a big difference in handling. Adjust your rear suspension accordingly - otherwise losing that weight will make for a rougher ride. Thanks for watching and Happy New Year 👍
@Hogdriver88 what kind of detach kit do you have on your bike I've looked everywhere for my 2015 ultra limited and can't find anything everywhere everywhere for
Thanks for the suggestions Mark. This bike has been sold, but one of the things I did to the new RGL was add a Custom Dynamics LED fender light - big difference! Thanks for watching 👍
I got ride of my 2000 ultra classic and bought a 2019 street glide sp. I bought a color match king tour pack for it and it's like having two bikes in one. For long trips I put the tour pack on. For short trips I take it off and put a solo seat on. I think the tour pack weights about 50 lbs. So there is a big differance
There is a huge difference - losing the high and rearward weight does a lot for the handling. Congrats on the new bike - sounds like you have it set up right. Thanks for watching and ride safe!
Love when Willie G came up with the idea of the StreetGlide for this very reason, we can put on a tour pak or not and have a great bike with great looks and all the luggage we need. Quick detach is the way to go.
This is kind of like doing it in reverse - start with everything, but make it more slimmed down. It was great, but I probably won't do it again with the new RGL. Thanks Harley Gurl!
Great video have the identical Bike does make a difference removing the tourpack especially when making sharp cornering. And you also get that Streeglide look 👍😎
Hey mikey sully - it sure does make a difference. I left the tour pak off quite a bit when I had this bike. Not sure yet if I will do it with the Road Glide Limited but it is a worthwhile accessory. Thanks for watching and ride safe 👍😎
I have the quick detach on my Street Glide Special and really like it for my Advanblack King Tour Pak. Gives you a great option on the Ultra Limited👍👊🇺🇸
It’s a great way to get multiple bikes in one. I haven’t decided yet if I will add it to the 21 Road Glide Limited or not. Thanks for watching and ride safe 👍
Man this is a great video. I like when you said you will have two bikes in one. I have a friend that said he only puts his tour pack on when he is taking big trips. The very nice sounding bike also. Ride Safe
Thank you HDR! It took me 2 years to get around to taking it off for the first time - once it was off, it was off for a long time. Those mufflers were the V&H 4.5 High Outputs. Thanks for watching and subscribing!
Thank you! Loved it when I bought it - still considering going back to a Road Glide (Limited) and test riding again tomorrow. Good show this morning - hope you guys had a good ride today. Thanks for watching and ride safe.
I may be weird but I kinda like having the tour pack on regardless of what I'm doing. It gives me more visibility and more obvious brake lights up high in a driver's vision. It also gives me somewhere to store a helmet or two. Kinda like the way it looks also. I may take it off just to see what it's like without it though. Thanks for the info.
I like it for the same reasons you do. It took me 2 years to get around to trying out my detachable tour pak and once I did, I liked the looks and handling. Always easy to snap it back on when the mood strikes. Haven’t installed the kit yet on the Road Glide Limited - don’t know if I will. Thanks for watching and commenting 👍
It’s a great way to have 2 bikes in one. My wife preferred the comfort with the tour pak, I liked the handling without. Without, you need that passenger back rest to finish off the back end IMO. It’s an expensive proposition so don’t spend if you’re not sure. I probably won’t be doing it again with the new Road Glide. Thanks again for watching 👍
Removing the tour pak gives the bike a whole new look and feel. I had the kit installed when I bought the bike, but it took me 2 years to try it out - glad I did. Thanks Doug for watching and for the kind words.
The detach kit from HD includes a relocated license plate bracket as well as LED tail/brake/turn signal lights that mount on the top rear of the saddlebags. I have Custom Dynamics filler lights on the Road Glide and they are excellent.
Not sure, but I do know that with this particular setup with the detach kit and the tag relocation bracket, with the tour pak on, toll both license plate readers cannot see the tag because it’s mounted higher on the fender and closer to the bottom of the tour pak, making it difficult for the plate reader to see. Thanks for watching!
If you can't hear your radio something is wrong... People can hear mine 2 miles away I also have the saddle bags with ,6x9 speakers in them. Nice ride! What part of the tarheal are you in?? I'm from Hyde county.
LOL it's a never ending chase - louder pipes, louder radio, louder pipes again, louder radio again... the automatic garage door opener was convenient - my wife could hear me coming down the street and the door would open as I pulled in the driveway. North central here - just outside of Raleigh. Would be nice to be near the water again. Thanks for watching and ride safe...
Thanks - it’s an eye catching color for sure. Ended up selling that one and picking up something a little easier on the eyes. My wife hates the Gold Wing passenger seat, but I have no problem with the rider seat. Back rest and highway pegs help a lot!
I did this to my 2017 Ultra limited after watching your video but I had to get my kit from Hog Works because Harley does not offer the kit anymore surprise surprise. Thanks
Hey that's great - glad the video helped. Harley does not sell it as a kit anymore, but the individual parts are available from the parts department. Enjoy the new '2 bikes in 1'!
Do you notice a difference loosing the tour pack weight by yourself? I am thinking of doing this. but have no idead how much the pack weighs. Thanks Dan
I have a 2013 Limited. I am really thinking about removing the king tour pack. The dealer said it would be $400 to install the quick disconnect hardware for me.
That’s probably a labor only quote - the parts are about 600-800 depending on saddle bag lights needed. It’s easy enough to do yourself, there are videos here on YT. I will probably do my Road Glide Limited this winter. If you don’t need the tour pak all the time for storage or passenger, this is a great way to go. Thanks for watching 👍
If I really want to hear the radio, helmet speakers are the only way to go for me - I have a bluetooth helmet and a wired helmet . Otherwise, I rarely use the bike’s radio.
It looks like you used the custom dynamics license plate relocation kit but you mounted it upside down? Would be out of the way and look much better below the tail light! The drag specialties tail light with the bottom window is about 29 bucks . I have the same bike in Amber whiskey and brilliant silver. I'm also using the same custom dynamic turn signals. I bought an antenna relocation kit to put it under the fairing cleans up the back end nicely.
I like the Amber Whiskey/Silver much better than mine. The plate relocation mount and saddlebag turn signals I had here were all part of the HD tour pak relocation kit - nothing extra to buy except the CB antenna mount that I didn't bother with. I agree that it would look better with the AM/FM antenna hidden. This bike has been sold and I'm on a RGL now... Thanks for watching!
LOL good catch - yeah closing the lid where I put them for ‘safekeeping’ wasn’t a great idea. They were in the bag - somewhere… The seat bolt is the worst because there’s little room to work in there while holding on to that screw - it always ends up somewhere in the tour pak frame. Thanks for watching.
@@Hogdriver88 Yes. L4 and or L5. I just had a MRi. Severe sciatica pain. My doctor follow up is next Friday. I will hear the full details. Fingers crossed
Thanks! In a recent video, I did a complete kit installation with all part numbers - you can watch that here: ruclips.net/video/CwWjgSiJnPc/видео.htmlsi=wPKQg13dq-lCa3fA
Those lights were part of the complete kit in 2015. They are now not included in the kit - you have to buy them separately but the dealer does have them. Also, take a look at Custom Dynamics for saddle bag lights. Thanks for watching 👍
Thanks Ty - if you do, make sure you also get the chrome (metal) locking kit for it. Those are the Vance and Hines 4.5 Hi Output mufflers on the stock head pipes. Loud enough for me. Thanks for watching - ride safe.
Just bought a 2022 Ultra Limited...Bike has fixed tour pak and right now no optional detach kit. Anyone know if a vendor is building a kit anytime soon?
You can get all the parts you need from the dealer. They used to have a complete kit with everything included but the kit has been discontinued according to my dealership parts guy (I was going to add it to the Road Glide) - but all necessary parts are available a la carté, and for about the same cost. EXCEPT, where the kit used to include the saddlebag lights for run/brake/turn, those lights are now extra cost. I already have the Custom Dynamics Filler lights that do run/brake/turn, so they can take the place of saddlebag lights. Thanks for watching 👍
I haven't invested in the whole "kit" yet but purchased the saddle bag lights and they work great but I noticed that when i remove the tour pack and disconnect all the cables and put them under the seat like you did I get engine light flashing when riding. When i recorded the codes it is shooting and looked them up it is Left Speaker, Right Speaker, Auxillary Power and Comm Link - connections lost. Is this what you have experiened or am I missing something? 2017 Road Glide Ultra
I never got any engine light or codes at all when I detached. What it's telling you makes sense because you are losing all those things when you detach the tour pak, but it doesn't make sense to me WHY it is doing that. Unless maybe the bike gets flashed at the dealer to not do this when the dealer installs the kit? Do the codes and light stay on all the time or does it stop after a while, or when you plug everything back in? May be a question for your service department...
You mentioned the docking bracket for the antenna. Did that come with the quick connect attachment or the rear turn signal lights mounting hardware . I'm a very new rider . I just bought the RG Ultra and I'm extremely ready to remove the king tour pack. My riding skills are not good enough to include my wife on any trips yet. There are so many different brands of tail lights and passenger back rest harnesses to choose from . I'm not confident as yet to purchase anything lol. Could it be possible to get information on where you purchased those items . The quick connect for tour pack, the passenger back rest ,the luggage bracket and the rear tail light turn signals. I hope you can help. I want to say thanks for sharing . I just subscribed and hope to learn more from your channel. Big Mex ( Pete)
Pete - first, thanks for watching, commenting, and subscribing, and welcome to the RG Ultra! I went to the RG Limited 2 months ago - they are great bikes. That tour pak weighs about 60 pounds, and the weight is up high and rearward, so removing it affects handling in a good way - it's much easier to ride without all that extra weight. Storage is nice, but for around town - I can live without it. The detach kit and passenger back rest are from HD and they are not cheap. Do yourself a favor and spend the money - buy once, cry once. The detach kit is about $600 and that passenger back rest is about $325. They are worth it. If you don't feel confident installing the kit yourself, pay someone to do it. It will be probably 3 hours of labor at the dealer. And then have them show you how it all works. Again, worth it. Too many stories of aftermarket detach kits falling off the bike - one guy said he caught his wife by the leg as she was rolling off at highway speed. Besides losing a passenger, a full tour pak set up is a LOT of money to replace. No aftermarket! SPEND THE MONEY lol. The detach kit includes the AM/FM antenna relocation bracket AND the saddlebag LED turn signals. I recommend getting the metal lock set for the tour pak, otherwise someone could easily remove it. I didn't have the removable luggage rack, but HD has several models that can go on the docking kit along with the passenger back rest. Go see the parts department at the dealership - they will guide you. And before you take a passenger, get in lots of solo riding - maybe consider some formal training. Adding a passenger changes the handling even without the tour pak. Good luck with the new bike!
@@Hogdriver88 Thank you , I appreciate your information. I will look into the Harley brand . And get plenty of solo rides in before adding a passenger. Hope you have a great Christmas. Thanks again. Pete
Don't know for sure but I think the CVO box is the same as the Limited. Your best bet is to go to your local dealer and get the correct part number for your year/model.
would any of you mind telling me what kit/parts I need to do this to my 2014 Ultra? I have looked online and cant seem to find what I need so I must not be calling it the right thing when looking... Also, is anyone running the older style saddlebag guard rails where both bars wrap around the back of the bags? Just curious if there are any filler panel lights that will work with those as I dont want to take my bag guards off, and I am not terribly crazy about those stick pn lights that go on the back of the saddle bags... thanks..
Best thing is to visit your HD dealer - they will have the correct part numbers for everything you need. The complete kit is no longer available and you need to buy everything separately. Total cost is about the same except the saddlebag lights that used to be included are now not. Check the Custom Dynamics website for the filler lights.
One of the green lights was the N (neutral) indicator. The orange was Cruise Control system on, green was cruise control engaged, and orange again was cruise control disengaged but system still on. They don’t flash in real life - the flashing is a function of the camera shutter.
Very nice looking bike. I’ll be buying the ultra limited special instead of the street glide special because you get the extra lights in the front (which I love the look of) heated grips, tour pack, more comfortable ride, lower fairing… I’m 33 and I believe when I buy the bike it will be my forever bike
Thanks... HD doesn't sell it as a kit any longer, but they sell all the kit pieces individually. It comes out to about the same cost except that you now need to add the cost of either saddlebag lights or filler lights for turn signals. I now have Custom Dynamics Pro Beam Fillers that act as run/turn/brake lights, so I don't need the saddlebag lights.
NY is getting slammed with winter but I guess that’s SOP for upstate. We are also off the road now for a little while due to snow and ice today and for me, until the salt is washed away. Stay warm and thanks for watching 👍😎
If you are interested, I did a complete installation video for the kit on my Road Glide Limited, including docking hardware etc. Yeah, we need things to do in retirement or we'll go crazy! Thanks for watching 👍
I did not - it was worked into the deal when I bought the bike. But it’s not a difficult job and there are some good videos out there to help. I may do it with my Road Glide Limited this winter.
@@Hogdriver88 I’m starting to do it for my RGU. Hardest part is to find the correct wire harness. For some reason Harley is not offering a complete kit.
They used to offer the complete kit including saddlebag lights to replace the tour pak lights. No more kit, but everything is available separately for about the same price as the kit, minus the bag lights. If you needed those, it’s about another $200. When I went to the parts department they gave me a print out of parts - there was no extra harness required, except for the antenna relocation kit.
Cheaper to buy a Limited and take stuff off than to buy a Street Glide and try and make it a Limited and in the end, it will still be only a Street Glide 😁
We saw the bike with parts and without. NOT you in the process of removing them. ( except the strap on the seat). Get someone to hole the camera next time so we can SEE you do the work. This didn't help.

My thoughts exactly. Thanks for watching 👍
U like it! I Love it! Looks Awesome!
Thanks!
would any of you mind telling me what kit/parts I need to do this to my 2014 Ultra?
What is the green then orange flashing light?
One of the green lights was the N (neutral) indicator. The orange was Cruise Control system on, green was cruise control engaged, and orange again was cruise control disengaged but system still on. They don’t flash in real life - the flashing is a function of the camera shutter.
What is the name brand of the quick disconnect kit?
It was an HD kit. I’ve been told they don’t sell it as a kit anymore, but all the kit parts are available separately to do the job.
Could you please provide parts numbers, please
I just bought an 08 ultra classic, what’s the link to the kit?
Sorry, I don't have that info... maybe go to h-D.com or check with your local dealer for your exact fitment. Thanks for watching!
Very nice looking bike. I’ll be buying the ultra limited special instead of the street glide special because you get the extra lights in the front (which I love the look of) heated grips, tour pack, more comfortable ride, lower fairing… I’m 33 and I believe when I buy the bike it will be my forever bike
Thanks Mr. Nick - the Ultra Limited is the way to go IMO because you get so much more for the money. Good luck with the purchase and enjoy it!
Thanks, great video. Could you please provide kit number?
Thanks... HD doesn't sell it as a kit any longer, but they sell all the kit pieces individually. It comes out to about the same cost except that you now need to add the cost of either saddlebag lights or filler lights for turn signals. I now have Custom Dynamics Pro Beam Fillers that act as run/turn/brake lights, so I don't need the saddlebag lights.
please get the hidden antenna goes behind the fairing
Bike’s been sold - thanks for watching and commenting 👍
Watching from upstate Ny waiting for winter storm tonight bikes are sleeping for the winter 😥
NY is getting slammed with winter but I guess that’s SOP for upstate. We are also off the road now for a little while due to snow and ice today and for me, until the salt is washed away. Stay warm and thanks for watching 👍😎
I have the road glide I am retired so I do this all so. Just to have something to do.
If you are interested, I did a complete installation video for the kit on my Road Glide Limited, including docking hardware etc. Yeah, we need things to do in retirement or we'll go crazy! Thanks for watching 👍
@@Hogdriver88 no thanks for sharing 😊
Did you install the detach kit?
It is funny how everyone says that these handle different without the tour pack. I honestly have not noticed a difference with mine off.
Interesting. I found the loss of about 50 lbs of high and aft weight pretty noticeable. Thanks for watching 👍
if you only ride straight on the highway you won't notice a difference :)
I just love my tour pak but all my buddies beg me to take it off 😂 but it’s not going anywhere
Personal preference. I thought it was so good I’m thinking of doing it to the road glide. Thanks for watching and commenting!
👍😀
And HOW you release? That’s the most critical part😅
Unlock the locking cam, and roll both cams to the free position. Then carefully lift up and back.
Why?
Less weight, better handling, different look, 2 bikes in one… why not?
I know the back rest(s) maybe nessasary but goddamn they absolutely ruin the lines of the bike. Cheers 🍺 🍺 🍺 😎
They sure do. Bike looked great without them, but one gave me something to lean back on, and the other kept my wife on the back! Thanks for watching 👍
Why? Save your money and buy a StreetGlide.
Cheaper to buy a Limited and take stuff off than to buy a Street Glide and try and make it a Limited and in the end, it will still be only a Street Glide 😁
Either you want an ultra or you don't!
I don’t. That’s why I now own a Road Glide Limited. And a BMW.
If I wanted a street glide, I would have bought one as opposed to UL.
Outstanding. Then I guess this video wasn’t for you.
We saw the bike with parts and without. NOT you in the process of removing them. ( except the strap on the seat). Get someone to hole the camera next time so we can SEE you do the work. This didn't help.
😂
