Most likely she was a pet at some point but was either lost or abandoned.
That's why she is up for adoption 🥰
This makes me so sad. That kitty used to belong to someone because she is far too trusting to be a feral.
That's exactly what I thought. She came right to Katie and didn't run or hiss like a feral stray would have. I'm glad she and her kitten are safe now.

It's not common for a cat to have just one kitten, but it does happen sometimes. Indeed, so glad both can have the chance for a safe home and loving family instead of a hard life on the street. ☺

Watching this with a foster kitten in my lap, likely to be a foster fail because I love him so much. Kitten season is upon us, Happy 4th!
How often to cats have just one baby? Seems like a rarity. I'd be so afraid she would've been in the process of moving her litter somewhere else and that there were others hidden somewhere in that awful place.
That was my thought also.
Either that or the others didn’t make it. Remember in the wild cats usually lose 75% of their kittens to various causes including birth defects (made more common if the mother was malnourished during pregnancy), predation and occasionally being stupid and leaving one behind when moving the litter. She’s a young mother so it wouldn’t be that surprising if she had only 2 to begin with.
More likely there were others, but they just did not survive.
Kitten season is hell right now. I am working on catching a mama and her 2 babies right now. So glad for these babies. Mama looks small and sweet.

At 28th of May I rescued a high pregnent Siam cat. Two days later she gave birth to five adorable babies.
Now I have three rescued dogs and nine cats. But I hope I will find good forever homes for the babies, soon.
Smoochy is so pretty! I’m so glad Kate found her and her baby. I hope they find a wonderful home together.
Smoochy's *definitely* had humans before, she knows the deal. No squalling, no swatting, just 'time to go? Okay!'

@missindependent1973 Generally cats will keep all their babies together, but I'm sure they searched thoroughly for others. It's possible that the mother cat was just too young or malnourished to have a large healthy litter, so it may have been that only one gestated successfully, or the rest died after birth.

I rescued a tiny kitten and her mum off the streets 10 years ago. I still have them and they're so sweet. I'd recommend anyone adopting a pair like this, it's wonderful watching their relationship develop ❤❤

Kitten season! Tell me about it! I’m feeding 5-6 adult strays, 2 half-grown. N mama with 4 kittens is living in my garage. Moved here 6 months ago. Counted over 20 strays. I’m not the only one feeding them, for which I’m grateful. But looking for a TNR group n having trouble finding one here in SE MI.

I volunteer at a cat rescue and it hurts my heart to see the sad condition of the place. Cockroaches, dirty, hot. Such a sad place. The only comfort is they are safe and fed.
Mumma is so friendly, she will be easily adoptable and Squishmallow is super cute - good job Katie!
