Ken, this was by far the most entertaining fakes recipe and im making it tommorow as this looks the most delish out of the last 5 videos . I like the addition of celery I think that is the winner and I also add a little balslamic vinagrette in my bowl before I eat it. Thanks for taking one for the team .

I never liked lentils growing up either. My grandma made Fakes often but I didn't like the taste. All it took was trying lentil soup at a diner and it was such a different taste, way less bitter, that I loved it. Now that I've tried making it myself, I got back in the mood to try Fakes like my grandma made. Went around in a whole circle

When I was young lad, almost 30 years ago I was working on Peloponnese, collecting olives and oranges. And once, after work I had this delicious soup with thick layer of greek vergin oil top of it, made by old greek woman. II can't forgot how good it was. Today I make my own, using your recipe. Thank you for your work - I will eat soup after 20-30 minutes, it's simmering now :) Good luck!

I absolutely love Lentil soup. The Greek place by my home made the best I ever ate besides my Grandmother's. I made a pot of this soup this morning for our dinner tonight and I lost my mind on how good it was. My Yia-ya would have been pleased. I used less water because I like my soups thick and hearty. This recipe is a total winner. Follow it to the letter and you will be quite pleased. You hit a home run with this one Ken.

One tip. Drizzle some red wine vinegar onto your bowl of soup before eating and it will take this soup to higher level. It's a Greek thang!.

Hi Ken, I feel the same way about lentils. I've always hated them growing up, and as a matter of fact, cooked identically to yours by my dear mum. Always told how good they were for me, full of iron. On request, I will be cooking them for my daughter in law who loves them. Cheers from Melbourne, Australia.

We make this soup just few changes. But we add whole potato in the lentils take out after its soft mash and return .Plus we use tomato paste instead of crush tomatoes and we add Ditalini pasta (little tubes) one of my favorite soups.

Hi Ken.. Many years ago one of my Greek friends who was a great cook told me the secret to great Lentil Soup was to add Spinach to it at the end of the cooking cycle. I tried it and she was, as usual, really right. Give it a try some time It adds a really nice flavor to the soup. I have also added some pasta in mine at times and its also good. You should also throw in your celery tops it gives great extra flavor to any dish. I use frozen sliced carrots in mine and instead of water i add Knoor Vegetable broth mixture to the water and it really gives a great taste, One teaspoon for each cup.. plus an extra one for the pot ..I will check out your new Lens Greek Table online..Should be interesting knowing you lol lol

ken, I applaud you for making this vegan dish. I make a very similar soup, particularly during the winter months, and it is a staple in my weekly menu. It is affordable and low fuss. I like to have some meatless go-to options, and this soup is easy enough for my lazy teens to make! I love your celery and burnt garlic comments, I burst out laughing. You are a great entertainer. A "real" person! I made your pork tenderloin souvlakis for my family yesterday, and I will try your version of this lentil soup. Thank-you for sharing this authentic greek version with the rest of us. Love from Canada

You can add a florina pepper in the tomato version for some extra flavour.
Lately, I've tried the lemony version, basically the same as this one except you cooke the ingredients in ladolemono instead of tomato sauce, easier to eat when the weather is hot too.
If you have quality oregano, you can try the way they cook lentils in eglouvi, leukada, apparently it's close to how the soup was cooked in antiquity, there's videos on it by locals and by mr. Mamalakis.

Like you Lentils are not my favorite thing but they are good when you add beef to them. With my husband it is broccoli, He thinks it is a veggie that didn't have enough time to mature and is like a green tree that belongs in the swamp. But I chop it up and put it in with other foods and he likes it. But lentils are so small they are hard to chop and hide. Here's a thought. Don't eat it. You are so funny my friend.
