It's so awesome to see Simon at the track! I miss him in the races. He's my driver.
I went to Indy in 2019 when he swept the entire month he was fantastic all month
@@alanluscombe8a553 Not sure if that will ever be replicated
@@alanluscombe8a553 I was busy having a heart attack those last 3 laps, Alan; at least it wasn't in public at the track!
Welcome back, Simon!
R.I.P Gil
Great to see Simon looking good and it will awesome to see him pay tribute to Gil in this way.
Thank you Simon. So good to see and hear you. I hope Norman is well as well. I will never forget you playing with Norman next to your rig in the infield in 2019. It was you that made me cheer for a Penske ride. All my best to you and thank you too for honoring Gil.
Happy to see Simon back!
Fitting tribute, it's going to be an emotional few laps for everyone.
Awesome gesture, can't wait to see Simon back behind the wheel.
That’s a nice bucket and a great tribute to one of my favorite racers. Well done, Simon, my birthday buddy (except I’m a year younger), and I’m glad we’ll get to see you on track again this week even if it’s not in anger (yet).
Marshall Pruitt is just so wonderful, and to see Simon there to remember and thank Gil in his own way is more than beautiful. Simon is now coaching Scotty McLaughlin just as Gil helped Simon back in the day. All of his fans hope and pray to see Simon back racing soon if not in Indy, then perhaps in sportscars, where he was also a champion. With his experience and superior driving skill, he qualifies anywhere!
It’s a beautiful car and I’m going to be happy to see my friend Simon drive it before the 500 Sunday. Hope for a perfect day. 🏁
See you Sunday Simon! Salute Gil
Loving it. Gil forever. Pagenaud forever.
I was there when he won the 500 in 2019.
@1:38 Is that Jim Hall standing between Gil and Simon next to the awesome Chaparral? Those were my favorite cars from the Group 7 Can Am series in the 1960's.
Yes. Jim gave Gil his big break in the States & Gil ran a special livery in honor of Jim at his final sportscar race at Laguna Seca in 2009.
I wonder how Norman is doing?
BRAVO!!!
Perfect
Great story.
Gil used a yellow helmet when he was with Jim Hall and Pennzoil
Why does the engine cover say “ powered by Toyota”?
Because its a Toyota engine.
What's with you people?
@@sdsmt99 well go back and see the Chevy writing on the other side and I’ve never seen Penske run a Toyota in at Indycar genius.
@@andyhamilton8940 Speaking of "geniuses", why don't you answer your own question?
Never mind, did it for you...
"For the 2003 season, the series adopted a new chassis package and saw the introduction of Toyota and Honda to the field...As of 2020, the 2003 race was the first and only Indy 500 victory for Toyota. It also marked the first Indy 500 win for a Japanese and/or Asian engine manufacturer."
2003 Indianapolis 500 Wiki---2024
Any other brain busters, genius? That took me about 1 minute to verify...
@@andyhamilton8940 Penske ran a Toyota. In 2003. Genius.
There's so much love in this helmet 🇧🇷🇫🇷
Sorry that Gil is no longer with us, but Very glad to see Simon.
An extremely fitting tribute to a great man in Gil de Ferran by my favorite race car driver Simon Pagenaud. No point in going to the great event without Simon in it.
Wonderful tribute and so great to see dear Simon ❤
And, we need tobacco back
Perfect!
So cool!!!!!

Question, is the car still owned by Penske? or the IMS Museum? or other?
Penske has maintained ownership of all of his recent winners. The only ones that I’m pretty sure that he doesn’t own are the ‘72 Donahue McLaren (IMS Museum) and the 1981 B. Unser Penske that Bobby kept (don’t know what happened to it after his passing).
I’m pretty sure that Penske has retained ownership of all of his recent winners. I think the only ones he hasn’t kept are the ‘72 Donahue McLaren (IMS Museum) and the ‘81 B. Unser Penske (PC9B?) that Bobby kept (don’t know what happened to it since his passing).
Penske owns it. Penske sent his restoration team to run it.
"Not here to talk about you?" It seems criminal not to ask a simple question of how he's doing, even if there is going to be a follow up video on his health considering how long he's been out. Unfortunate.
Maybe he asked MP not to make it about him.
There’s definitely a reason Pagenaud’s health has been kept quiet since his last stint. He very likely may still be in recovery.
The video wasn’t about Simon, it was about Simon being asked to drive the car, the car and so forth. I also assume Simon isn’t ready to go public with his health and he is entitled to privacy, simple as that.
@@racefreakmel You do make a valid point in that there are one heck of a lot of Pagenaud fans out there who want to know
Ever think that "simple question" should be shared amongst peers and not with the general public??
