In 1950, China's GDP was 4% of that of the United States. In the three years of the Korean War, the Chinese People's Volunteer Army entered the Korean War with 1.9 million troops and nearly 500000 additional troops, totaling 2.4 million (only the army, 225 tanks). Check how much military force the United States invested in the Korean War. During the three-year Korean War, the United States entered Korea with 1.796 million participants. The United States has deployed a total of 1153000 Army personnel (1823 tanks), 241000 Air Force personnel (a total of 3000 combat aircraft, with over 1700 deployed on the battlefield), 130000 Marine Corps personnel, and 265000 Navy personnel (210 warships). These combat figures do not include the United Nations forces. The entire Korean War: China sacrificed 183108 people and injured 383218 people. US military: 54246 deaths and 103248 injured. 628833 UN troops died and 1064453 UN troops were injured.
Why is the Philippines so bizarrely fabricating similar lies? Because the Philippine history is a colony. The sole purpose of the lie is to "maintain" the little dignity that exists in this country.
For context: The Chinese had several supply problems during this phase of the Korean War. Mao insisted General Peng Dehuai force UN forces out of South Korea a month before Peng was ready. (To kick them out ASAP before talks begin). Many of the more experienced Chinese PLA soldiers had already been killed or rotated out by this time. While most of the supplies had not yet arrived. UN forces also had air superiority, so many Chinese trucks and depots were bombed before they arrived at the front lines. So the average PLA soldier went into battle with less ammo, gear and sometimes not even a gun. These factors contributed to tens of thousands of Chinese killed during the overall Chinese Spring Offensive (which consisted of multiple tense battles including this one). In contrast, the Filipino soldiers were already battle hardened from WW2 and many soldiers received extra training in the USA. So by the time the Korean War started, they were ready. As the Chinese Spring Offensive was expected, they were better supplied per man and constructed defenses. You can read "Honor and Fidelity: The 65th Infantry in Korea, 1950-1953" and Xiaobing Li's "China's Battle for Korea" about the 1951 Chinese Spring Offensive of the Korean War.
I was born in Korea. I am also half American. I know about this battle as I'm a history freak with a Sociology degree. I was shocked wen I was at a Philippine's Mall a young Filipino man told me about this battle. I am married to a Filipina and live here. I was at one time, served in the U.S. Army. These are a great fun loving people!!
It seems perplexing that Filipinos, often perceived as lacking sufficient knowledge, proper training, and a clear understanding of the situations they face, can still rise to the challenges of war. Despite these apparent shortcomings, war is war-inescapable and unforgiving-and death is an inevitable consequence. Yet, against all odds, Filipinos have demonstrated an almost mythical resilience, elevating themselves to an immortal level in the art of war. What’s truly remarkable is that they achieve this without any tangible evidence or detailed explanation of how they do it. Their ingenuity, adaptability, and unyielding spirit defy conventional expectations, making their success in warfare a phenomenon that remains as mysterious as it is awe-inspiring.
I'm a Filipino and also ashamed to say that I wasn't aware we were part of The Battle of Yultong. I wasn't even aware we were sending out troops to help. None of this was never mentioned in our history textbooks in elementary or in high school. I'm glad to be learning with you. 🖤
Same lol. 😂 To my knowledge, the only History Lesson I ever got was in Elementary, a few pages in the Filipino Subject Book about how Evil Marcos was and how Good the People Power Revolution was. 😑 I never knew our Military, no, our Country had such a history until recently.
Are you under a rock? PEFTOK wasn't taught in schools? The veteran's cap worn by Fidel Ramos didn't tickle your curiosity? The South Korean banners that mention their gratitude when they send us aid teams during natural disasters went unnoticed? It's a bit hard to believe... Next you're going to say that you didn't know that the Philippines was a founder member of the UN (one of the original 51 countries) or that we haven't had a Filipino UN Secretary General. Or maybe you didn't know that during the 50s-60s, we had the largest Naval force in SE and East Asia... Maybe you didn't know that we dominated Asian basketball through the 40s and 50s, why the sport is so popular today... Or maybe you didn't know that before Messi, a Filipino held the club goal records for Barcelona FC...
@17:56 Our Military is basically modeled after the US since we are essentially been under their rule with our defeat on Filipino-American war. We have our Army, Navy and its Marines, Airforce, and Coastguard. And each branches have their SOF teams, Army has the Special Forces - Airborne and Scout Rangers. The Marines and Navy have Force Recon Battalion which is now known as Marine Special Operations Group and Naval Operations Command which has different Navy Seal Teams. Finally the Coast Guard have the Coast Guard Special Operations Forces. As for Militia type forces we have CAFGU or Citizens Armed Forces Geographical Unit. But as of recent they are also integrated to regular Army units or are being supervised by them.

The Filipino said that in the Korean War, the Philippines defeated the Chinese Volunteer Army in a ratio of 1,000 to 40,000. This is absurd and illogical (why Filipinos have this lie, I will analyze it later). During the three years of the Korean War, the Philippines sent a total of 8,000 people to North Korea, only fighting a small-scale battle. During the entire Korean War, 112 Filipinos were killed and 356 were captured. If the Filipinos had such a strong fighting power, they would have been used as cannon fodder by the United States, instead of just participating in one battle. (The United States cherishes the lives of American soldiers very much). Refer to the number of U.S. troops entering the DPRK and the number of casualties.
Why is the Philippines so bizarrely fabricating similar lies? Because the Philippine history is a colony. The sole purpose of the lie is to "maintain" the little dignity that exists in this country.
As a Filipino, I feel proud of my country for the many brave soldiers it has created over the centuries. From rebellion against oppression, to waging guerrilla warfare against invaders, and even our modern battle against terrorism, we've faced many battles and hardships. If I'm correct, General Macarthur himself said: "Give me 10,000 Filipinos and I shall conquer the world.", a testament to how brave and committed to their cause Filipino soldiers are.

The event in South Korea you were talking about is the President of South Korea Declaring Marital Law for around 6 Hours. There have been some protests and some calls for impeachment. Not sure what the Martial Law was about though
There is a video of the most recent war that the Philippines fought. The title is battle of marawi but I guess that video was restricted or removed because it was captured using a gopro during the actual war.
My father was one of them who defended Korea in the Battle of Yultong wherein he was a light armored tank gunner. This is the only contingent that was left fighting against the chinese. He came home safe and told stories about how chinese soldiers shoot.
The Korean War is knowned as the Forgotten War, because it was overshadowed by the much more larger war "Vietnam War". Also it has a limited media coverage
Korea was mostly mountain warfare. If you didn't have the high ground, you were screwed. Yes, the photo you questioned was snow and between that and the wind, known to the troops as "the hawk" Korea was a killer. Good films on the Korean War are MacArthur and PorkChop Hill, but MacArthur also includes the battle of the Philippines from WWII. Other interesting and entertaining films based on history are Darby's Rangers, The Devil's Brigade, The Longest Day, and Merrils Marauders. Happy watching!
Yes, and according to the same documentary, the original commander of the 10th BCT was relieved when he held out for winter clothing for his men to fight in, kind of like the same situation as Easy Company in Band of Brothers in the Battle of the Bulge, but men were desperately needed at the front. These were men from the tropics, fighting in the coldest weather in Korea in decades in insufficient/non-existent winter garb.
I think most Pinoy soldiers in the 10th BCT are former guerilla forces absorbed into the Philippine army, forming the Philippine Scout Rangers that specialize in guerilla fighting styles and close quarter shootouts. And most of them fought in the South East Asian WWII theatre.
They are not guerilla forces they are regular forces in the Philippine Army wherein the UN requested them to Korea. My father was one of them, a light armored tank gunner.
I just want to give a little bit context here. Filipino soldiers are master of jungle and guerilla warfare but they fought in Korean in winter I think it's -15° with heavy snow if I am correct and 10th bct is supposed to be an armored unit but they turn into heavy weaponry unit because of lack of armored vehicles but they have dozen of trucks and an m24 chaffee I mean if you consider that an armored unit it's fine.
For the recent event in South Korea, the President issued Martial Law there, citing that there were Pro North Korean individuals in their government and actually had the military block off their National Assembly (Equivalent to the House of Commons) building to prevent Representatives from coming in and voting against Martial Law, but surprisingly enough representatives made it to vote against Martial Law, and 6 hours later, he lifted his Martial Law declaration. Some say it's an effort to cement his power because the current president is very unpopular
Thank you Luke for reacting to this, and to members of The Front(been watching their older WW2 vids for years). I'm Filipino-American and I never knew that a Filipino Expeditionary Force was made for UN combat operations during the Korean War. I thought it was a mostly US based war against communism.
Since you're interested in watching more Filipino Military related videos, i recommend watching "The Cold War/World War Two" channel's videos on the Philippine Communist Rebels and Fighting Filipino Resistance to the Japanese Empire. I found it so fascinating that the Philippines became a mirror of Feudal Japan or China, where Pockets of Native Filipino and American led Filipino Soldier's carving out their own kingdoms in the Philippines were opposing the Japanese Empire and its Puppet Government or each other.
It was crazy. The president suddenly declared an emergency martial law in the middle of the night. Parliament members rushed to the parliament building, got blocked by the military, but got helped and pushed out by people protesting against the declaration outside the parliament building. The parliament got inside, voted 190 to 0 votes against the martial law declaration, and the president got no choice but the lift the martial law 6 hours later. As a Filipino living here in South Korea, I actually got a little bit worried. But, it was a shit-show overall.
The movie Pork Chop Hill is about a battle during the Korean War. Another War movie you might like is Merrill's Marauders witch took place in Burma in 1944.
How do you only know of The Front now!? You're a Military Man and Star Wars Fan, The Front is literally that, they're both a Military History Channel and have a Star Wars Lore Channel called "Geestslys". (Which you should react to more Star Wars Lore, especially from Generation Tech.) Also, since you said you liked Story telling and analyzing Military Maps, would be nice if you made videos on "How I would lead an army in Star Wars Visualized through a Map" for example. 😂
The armed forces of the Philippines is the most battle hardened military force in the world. Having been in conflict since 1896..Filipino -Spanish War, Fil American War, (1898-1902), Philppine Insurrection (guerilla warfare vs US forces 1902 - 1913), World War 1 (1914-1918) World War 2 (1941 to 1945), Korean War (1947 to 51) Vietnam War, Communist Insurency since 1945, Moro Secssionists since 1970s, Islamic Extremists (2017 /2018), international peace keeping all over the world under UN.

Well Korean War was also called a forgotten war it is really not talked a lot unlike WW1 and WW2, good thing this piece of history been shared by many. Yeah it was snowing one of the coldest winters in Korea and soldiers(Filipinos) were not using winter ready uniforms.
And it just makes me sad that *most* (not all) of the S. Koreans ignored the helping hand who sacrificed themselves for their country and even discredited the Philippines off on their history. Not just the Philippines but also other helping hands like Turkey, Australia, Thailand, the UK, etc. who also sacrificed themselves in that battle. Because for me, sacrificing your life for one's blood is not a joke that only deserves a plaque or any medals that will soon be forgotten. But instead, it deserves to be known forever. Also, the main thing that makes me cry is the fact that the Philippines national anthem's last line is- ""Aming ligaya na pag may mang-aapi, ang mamatay ng dahil sayo."" *which means* (Our greatest joy, when faced with oppression, is to die for you.) Which is supposed to be for the Filipinos when protecting themselves from aggressors, and yet, they did it for another country..
honestly i wont ever believe this story if had not from the records in the korean side, its even more documented there lol compared to our records like its simmered down as if just a common win
The Philippines does not have a winter as it is a tropical country, so if this was during winter imagine the Filipino troops not familiar with such cold weather still valiantly defending their position. The odds were against them from the start.
the irony of all this is that! - now a days Filipinos are being discriminated by koreans themselves in movies, shows and etc, koreans seems to forget that without this Filipino soldiers/fighters who risks their lives fighting for war that is not theirs, there wouldn't be a south korea of today!
U should also watch a Filipino soldier called private dhan ryan a man who gave his life to the country with a heroic last words (guys do not spill i want him to hear it)
before they were sent to korea, they were already battle hardened due to the local communist insurgency in the Philippines, though they were more needed in the Philippines, yet the president quirino still sent them including his son and son-in-law. thats the big difference between the Philippine troops and other UN troops.
If you want to learn more about the Philippines, please do a video about the Japanese invasion of the Philippines from the beginning of WW2 and the Battle of Bataan. Also the subsequent Bataan Death March
You should also look in how the Filipino forces under the United Nation in Golan heights did, when their Indian counterpart ans commander order the Filipino to surrender and give their arms to ISIS, they called their commander in the Philippines and was advise to fight on, not surrender and do a temporary withdrawal from their position.
The Korean war was fought by UN forces. That's why US has a base and UN has officials there. South Korea has its own UN forces participation day to remember the 2 million lives lost during the Korean war.
Check the Filipino unit assigned in the UN peacekeeping in Lebanon encircled by terrorist and ordered by UN to surrender to the terrorist but refused and instead manage to escape the encirclement and attach to the Irish unit instead.
I know Gen.MacArthur is just Exaggerating but Filipinos prove time and time again thier prowess in battle, the fact that in all Asia Phillipines is the only country that Japanese has not conquer easy unlike other Asian countries who fall swiftly to thier fast tactics Phillipines proves too much for them in fact the only thing that doom Phillipines defense is due to low ammunition and supplies since America at that time choose to Focus on Europe first if Phillipines had enough supplies and ammunition Phillipines will be able to hold out much longer.
Try also the UN FORCES OF FILIPINO in the middle east near the boarder of Syria where the Officer in Command was from India tried to persuade to surrender their camp which was almost overun by the Rebels where other UN forces nearby already surrendered yet the Pinoy Soldiers tried to escape thru the mines field at nightime regrouping with the Israeli soldiers who were also harass by said rebel forces.
Would love to see you react to more Filipino military stuff as well as other foreign militaries. Also The Front is a great channel, please react to more of their videos!

They not to believe but its very true Gen. McArthur once said gave me ten thousand Pilipino soldiers and I will conquer the world.. Its hyperbole but he saw the capabilities
This battle was in April, so while chilly, unlikely it was snowy. The terrain there is semi-mountainous, so the Filipino troops would have been dug in on the high ground, giving them a defensive advantage. Plus they would have still have been backed up by American artillery and air support. The Filipino military was modeled on the US military. Pre-WW2 Filipino Army officers attended West Point. The Filipino Army tends to use US military style weapons and equipment, mostly because they get lots of it as military aid from the US.
You'll be amazed of the Filipino soldiers. On a show Manhunt with Joe Lambert, the Scout Rangers of the Philippine Army, was able to track & capture him with the least amount of effort & equipment, compared to the other special forces he went against with. ruclips.net/video/PzkB4QNGrMI/видео.html
We have special operations, yes. Structured as the counterpart to every US specification. We have the Army's Scout Rangers, Special Forces, and Light Reaction Regiment. We have the Navy's SEAL and Marine Recon, or MARSOC; we have Air Force PAFTOC and Police SAF; and some Coast Guard spec operations too. And our guys are not just for show; they're literally battle tested and have real-life combat experience, as the Philippines is never short of war on a day-to-day basis fighting against communists, terrorists, Muslim separatist groups and other bad guys.

You should watch battle of marawi and philippines scout ranger. Batyle of marawi happen a few years back so you can see how philippines military fight of isis.
Oh how I wish I could have a chug and drink feeling like a king. But alas, as a Filipino, I have no income to buy one. Also, that Chinese division in particular *didn't have tanks* and they relied on human wave tactic to overrun the Filipino 10th bct. Needless to say, the Chinese failed And since you know stuff about military maps, how about starting your own video on that?
I have a grandfather in that war and he confirmed that that day is snowing so hard that they hardly feel their hands. He always said he always wanted to see snow but he never expected to experienced it that way. and ohh some of them decided to cover half body with soft snow to serve as a camo as their uniform sticks like a sore thumb.
It’s definitely a interesting conflict, would definitely be interesting to find out more about it since my grandfather I had never met (mothers side) served some combat role from the uk
Watch "March of the Valiant" documentary, its a good watch for this specific war 10th BCT perspective. The survivors telling the story, great edit
I had the honour to meet one Yultong Veteran way back in the 80s. His last name is Suzon, and he worked as a security in a hospital.
Luke there's a documentary for this and the title is "The March of Valiant, Philippine Combat Teams off to Korea"

There was no Philippines as a country 500 years ago. Colonized three times in 500 years.
Why would such a lie be fabricated so bizarrely?
I was summoned here, Watching from the Philippines 🇵🇭 ❤

Same lol. 😂 To my knowledge, the only History Lesson I ever got was in Elementary, a few pages in the Filipino Subject Book about how Evil Marcos was and how Good the People Power Revolution was. 😑 I never knew our Military, no, our Country had such a history until recently.
LOL i read about this in a history book back in highschool
What?! This is why I read a lot of books more. So much more information and people in our history that are so cool and awesome
There was no Philippines as a country 500 years ago. Colonized three times in 500 years.
Why would such a lie be fabricated so bizarrely?
My father was in the Navy in the Korean War. He flew in planes mostly. Tough old guy he was. ♥️🇺🇸
I saw one of the video that after the Korean War the Filipino soldiers helped to build a Korean houses.
Mga pilipino army matigas sa laban..mabuhay ang pilipinas❤❤from Philippines..Mindanao...

(The United States cherishes the lives of its own soldiers very much). Refer to the number of US troops entering the Korean War and the number of casualties.
Why would such a lie be fabricated so bizarrely?
Because 🇵🇭 has been a colony throughout history. The only purpose of the lies is to "maintain" the country's remaining dignity.
There was no Philippines 500 years ago. It was colonized three times in 500 years.
The event in South Korea you were talking about is the President of South Korea Declaring Marital Law for around 6 Hours. There have been some protests and some calls for impeachment. Not sure what the Martial Law was about though
He said it was because North Korean had infiltrated their government, and they were making moves to gain more power.
They were still using hardwire switchboard comms in 1950. Walkies for short range.
@11:53 yes, it is snowing and according to March of the Valiant documentary, it is the coldest winter ever recorded for decades back then.
Yes its snowing and filipinos arent used on cold weather and yet they did great
I love watching these channel that's why I love to subscribe your channel Bro. Philippine army is more experience than a volunteers
Since you're interested in watching more Filipino Military related videos, i recommend watching "The Cold War/World War Two" channel's videos on the Philippine Communist Rebels and Fighting Filipino Resistance to the Japanese Empire. I found it so fascinating that the Philippines became a mirror of Feudal Japan or China, where Pockets of Native Filipino and American led Filipino Soldier's carving out their own kingdoms in the Philippines were opposing the Japanese Empire and its Puppet Government or each other.
continue the great work idol
(Which you should react to more Star Wars Lore, especially from Generation Tech.)
Also, since you said you liked Story telling and analyzing Military Maps, would be nice if you made videos on "How I would lead an army in Star Wars Visualized through a Map" for example. 😂
so glad your reacting to this channel becuase its one of my favorite history channel

There was no Philippines as a country 500 years ago. Colonized three times in 500 years.
Colonial countries have no right to talk about courage and war.
I’m a Filipino and I don’t appreciate that you are playing Filipino pride to get more views and subscribers.
Also, the main thing that makes me cry is the fact that the Philippines national anthem's last line is-
""Aming ligaya na pag may mang-aapi, ang mamatay ng dahil sayo.""
*which means*
(Our greatest joy, when faced with oppression, is to die for you.)
Which is supposed to be for the Filipinos when protecting themselves from aggressors, and yet, they did it for another country..
honestly i wont ever believe this story if had not from the records in the korean side, its even more documented there lol compared to our records like its simmered down as if just a common win
The Philippines does not have a winter as it is a tropical country, so if this was during winter imagine the Filipino troops not familiar with such cold weather still valiantly defending their position. The odds were against them from the start.
Filipino soldiers almost always never surrender… As UN Peacekeepers in 2014 in the Golan Heights was another example…
the irony of all this is that! - now a days Filipinos are being discriminated by koreans themselves in movies, shows and etc, koreans seems to forget that without this Filipino soldiers/fighters who risks their lives fighting for war that is not theirs, there wouldn't be a south korea of today!
Filipinos strong camaraderie will not leave fellow soldiers at the battle line. They are ready to lay down their lives for their brethren.
Have you reacted to The Armchair Historian?
He has good bird's eye view animated videos of historical battles.
I thought I had a good understanding of the Korean war. I must admit, I have no idea Turkey was involved.
U should also watch a Filipino soldier called private dhan ryan a man who gave his life to the country with a heroic last words (guys do not spill i want him to hear it)
Would highly recommend the documentary of this battle called "March of the Valiant"...Hope you would react to it soon 🙌
This deserve a Movie
...also, if you're interested in knowing our army's special force, you might want to check out The Philippine Scout Rangers.
before they were sent to korea, they were already battle hardened due to the local communist insurgency in the Philippines, though they were more needed in the Philippines, yet the president quirino still sent them including his son and son-in-law. thats the big difference between the Philippine troops and other UN troops.
You should do a rection video on the lates PH Hell March Showcasing the advancing military power of the PH
The Korean war was fought by UN forces. That's why US has a base and UN has officials there. South Korea has its own UN forces participation day to remember the 2 million lives lost during the Korean war.
our standardly used army rifle is just the m16
Check the Filipino unit assigned in the UN peacekeeping in Lebanon encircled by terrorist and ordered by UN to surrender to the terrorist but refused and instead manage to escape the encirclement and attach to the Irish unit instead.
Pilipinos beats everyone
I know Gen.MacArthur is just Exaggerating but Filipinos prove time and time again thier prowess in battle, the fact that in all Asia Phillipines is the only country that Japanese has not conquer easy unlike other Asian countries who fall swiftly to thier fast tactics Phillipines proves too much for them in fact the only thing that doom Phillipines defense is due to low ammunition and supplies since America at that time choose to Focus on Europe first if Phillipines had enough supplies and ammunition Phillipines will be able to hold out much longer.
other than that, that's the first time filipinos deployed in Korea experience winter.
Try also the UN FORCES OF FILIPINO in the middle east near the boarder of Syria where the Officer in Command was from India tried to persuade to surrender their camp which was almost overun by the Rebels where other UN forces nearby already surrendered yet the Pinoy Soldiers tried to escape thru the mines field at nightime regrouping with the Israeli soldiers who were also harass by said rebel forces.
i highly suggest researching about the our light regiment "Maligno sa Tulay" during the Isis marawi war.
Bro the flash bang with that white mode
You may also want to watch "the great escape."
We Filipinos are not used in snow or cold weather. Imagine that
well the thumbnails .. and yes I am here
Would love to see you react to more Filipino military stuff as well as other foreign militaries.
Also The Front is a great channel, please react to more of their videos!

Why would such a lie be fabricated so bizarrely?
They not to believe but its very true Gen. McArthur once said gave me ten thousand Pilipino soldiers and I will conquer the world.. Its hyperbole but he saw the capabilities
yeah you should... the Battle of Manila is also known as the Stalingrad of Asia it happen during WW2
If you want to know about our special forces try to watch the scout rangers
It was snowing during those time. Filipinos do not even had the proper gear/clothings for that temperature.
We were taught about the Korean War at my school in Florida.
Sir you must watch the March of the valiant
actually you did review some Filipino SF Videos lol 😁✌️
Yes more about my country 🇵🇭🫡 also watch “the march of the valiant” its a more in depth storytelling of the battle of yultong..

This story seems so unbelievable to pro china individuals. So much that they think it never happened 🤣
Oh how I wish I could have a chug and drink feeling like a king. But alas, as a Filipino, I have no income to buy one.
Also, that Chinese division in particular *didn't have tanks* and they relied on human wave tactic to overrun the Filipino 10th bct. Needless to say, the Chinese failed
And since you know stuff about military maps, how about starting your own video on that?
I have a grandfather in that war and he confirmed that that day is snowing so hard that they hardly feel their hands. He always said he always wanted to see snow but he never expected to experienced it that way. and ohh some of them decided to cover half body with soft snow to serve as a camo as their uniform sticks like a sore thumb.
