Hello. I work at DART. So here’s the thing about the fleet 52 series cars, 175-195. They’re a modified fleet. They originally had the AEG/Bombardier propulsion system with GTO inverters as found on the oldest cars , 101-174. However, the engineering department outfitted them with Toyo Denki IGBT inverters. So those particular cars sound like a hybrid of the Toyo and AEG propulsion units. From 0-30 mph, they sound like cars 196-263, but from 30mph and up, they whine up like the oldest cars 101-174. But they’re also the least reliable cars now.
Well, the traction motor of these trains is TDK-6482-A, but I can't determine the VVVF inverter …… maybe RG693-A-M ? Can you find the VVVF inverter nameplate?
@@NTxRE Okay cool. Also when will DART begin to get New Trains? I feel as if the current Kinki are Old and outdated now.. I heard the silver line will be using Flirt.. what would it be for the other lines?
I've heard no news of anything for the other lines, but they'd definitely be sticking with something electrified. Most of the LRVs were overhauled when they added the C car in the mid 2000s, so they have plenty of service life left. I doubt they have plans to replace them in the next 10 years
These are Toyo Denki inverters just to confirm that.
Indeed they are!
Also for some reason, car #194 has these inverters, but does not make a loud howl upon accelerating/decelerating like the other IGBT powered SLRVs.
I think I've noticed that one, I'd love to know what's different about it. Thanks for watching!

These might be Toyo Denki IGBT-VVVF inverters, judging by the way they sound.
To the best of my knowledge, you're right! I didn't say anything in the video since I can't take that back, but I've got it in my thumbnail.
sometimes Hitachi has same tone with Toyo Denki
Congrats on 1k btw!
Thank you!
@@NTxRE happy thanksgiving by the way as well!
One day might ride this
You should if you get the chance!
I will try North Texas Rail and Elevator
@@SG118P a good place to go is Dallas Union Station
Plenty of trains there!
Very typical Toyo Denki VVVF sound for decades lol
So LRV’s 101-180 have GTO-VVVF inverters while 181-263 have IGBT-VVVF inverters
Correction, 101-174 have GTO and 175 and up have IGBT

Since these are LRVs the entire undercarriage is covered, blocking the view. If I'm able to figure it out, I'll let you know
You should do the whistle and horn next
I'll put it on the list of things to get next time I'm out!
Awesome! 👍
Sounds like the MBTA Blue Line
Who was that person who “whooped” at 0:34?
No idea! There was quite a bit of interesting activity at that station the day I filmed there.
I can i get a whooped whooped lol
I miss fliming dart
What trains will be used for the new DART D2 Subway?
I could be mistaken, but I believe they're using existing rolling stock, as they're only rerouting lines

We're not quite to the density to require metro type trains. We'll get there eventually, though!
Not as cool as the Westinghouse GTO-VVVF, but still pretty cool otherwise
Definitely agree. They're still unique though, and they passed through while I was waiting for the others. When life gives you lemons!
Yup :)
